Kyou, Koi wo Hajimemasu [Side Story]

Cover page: “After a long time, finally, was able to be mutually happy with Kyouta. Since high school graduation, in order to accomplish each other’s dreams, from far away places, the two started a long distance relationship..?” Narration: “The way Tsubaki Kyouta entered high school is ‘long hair’, ‘talks rubbish’, ‘rude’. The first impression is really awful! ..fundamentally it is like that. It has become ‘like’[/love] when I’ve noticed it. *flashbacks* Each time, I get to understand him more. Being in love with him is like some thing is rushing forth and expanding. Upon reaching 24 years old, having this kind of romance with him still continues..” At parfait beauty parlor, Tsubaki holds the mirror to her customer, Matsui [guesswork from 松井] and tells her that this is what she did. “Is this okay?” Matsui happily looks at her beautiful braided hair and squeals in glee. She happily says that her boyfriend will definitely be shocked upon seeing her. “I’ll be going on a Christmas date with my boyfriend after this. Ah~ I want to let him see it right now♡ I’ll make the appointed time earlier~~” Tsubaki looks somewhat sad. As Matsui happily clings on her boyfriend and leaves, Tsubaki thanks them for their patronage. While Tsubaki is glumly tidying things up the umbrellas at the porch, someone says that it has been a year since she is holding scissors. It is Hiro. Hiro comments that she has become very mature and her reputation has increased. While Hiro helps tidy up the folding chairs, Tsubaki says no, the difference is still far. “Before, during the time I’m interested in becoming a hairstylist, I wondered whether or not, I can do it well. Would I make a mistake? Will I feel embarrassed? If I don’t practice more and more..” Hiro asks if she is going to practice tonight until it’s very late. Tsubaki exclaims yes, of course. Hiro asks, “On Christmas night?” Puzzled Tsubaki asks what he is implying. Hiro says that it is because no matter what, they are still continuing it, right? “Continuing that long distance relationship with your boyfriend who is studying at a university in Kyoto. The position of a student and a person in society isn’t the same especially in terms of money.” Tsubaki says that even if he says student, but in school, Kyouta is also working as the professor’s assistant so no worries about that. Hiro says that because of that, Kyouta is very busy, right? “So, how long has it been since you’ve met each other?” Tightly holding her hand with her ring on it, Tsubaki admits that it has been almost half a year. Waving her hand, she smiles and says but she is also perfecting her skill that she is busy practicing so it is totally alright.

Cover page: “To be able to meet you and mutually fall in love. Right now, the two hold hands as they go towards the future--” Half-imagination/reality: While putting his arm around Tsubaki who looks sad and flustered, Hiro tells Kyouta on the phone that it is room 308. It is a room among numerous hotels in the tourist city of Kyoto. “If you can find it, then how about try finding it?” End of Half-imagination/reality. Kyouta takes out his laptop computer and search the location of the Kyoto beauty school that Tsubaki and Hiro went to for this trip. He thinks that room ought to be in the surrounding hotels of the school. Kyouta gets his cellphone and starts calling. When the receptionist of Kyoto Fuuga Hotel answers, Kyouta asks if there is a certain guest by the name of Hananoi Hiro, residing in their room 308. The receptionist apologizes that she cannot confirm to him whether this person is in their hotel. Kyouta thinks that in the end, he has to go to each and every hotel to look for Tsubaki. Then, he remembers Hiro telling him that he will go to Italy next year, and even if he makes a move on Tsubaki, she will be far away from him so it already doesn’t matter anymore. Kyouta slams his hands on the table. He goes out of his apartment and starts running out to find Tsubaki. In room 308, Tsubaki is blushing. She says, “Hananoi-san.. That.. this is embarrassing so please stop..” Smiling Hiro asks what she is talking about. “Until I’m satisfied, I won’t stop.” Sitting on the bed in a bathrobe, Tsubaki thinks that it is so embarrassing to be wearing only a bathrobe in front of someone else. While brushing her hair, Hiro says that her hair was quickly turned back to black after it was dyed blond, and it will be bad if she didn’t protect it after washing her hair. Tsubaki asks if her clothes aren’t dry yet. Hiro says that he doesn’t know, and if it is dry, the hotel staff would bring them back. Then, Hiro notices that Tsubaki is sadly looking at her cellphone on the table. Tsubaki is surprised when Hiro says that it is too bad, that while she is taking a shower, he [Kyouta] didn’t call.. “(and right now, I even shut it off) What is it? Are you waiting for a phone call? Didn’t you say that you don’t want to be together with him?” Tsubaki clarifies that no, she wants to be together because it is quite rare for them to see each other once again. “But for me to be filled with such resentful [/dissatisfied] moodiness, I don’t want him to see the me, who is quite disappointing.”

Cover page: “Even if we’re separated, these feelings will definitely also still--” The result of the hairstyle competition during the school festival is out. Tsubaki wins first place. A short haired girl exclaims that it is truly amazing and more kouhai-s had overwhelming took first place. The long haired girl asks what about the grades. In the bulletin board, it is shown that Tsubaki is in first place in both academics and skills[/hairstyling] at the school’s early term ranking. They ask, “Tsubaki, what kind of person are you?” Holding a mannequin, light colored haired Tsubaki hesitantly smiles and says, “Ah.. asking me what kind of person I am.. I’m only an ordinary student in a specialty school..” Her long haired friend exclaims that fundamentally, she isn’t ordinary. “You also even get to study under that graduate student Hananoi! It’s really nice. I also want to work at parfait.” Short haired friend tells the long haired girl that a person who made a mistake in the amount of dye, and dyed the customer’s hair into gold/blond, cannot be used. An arrow points that ‘customer’ is Tsubaki. Long haired girl holds Tsubaki’s shoulder and tearfully cries to apologize to Tsubaki. Then, someone calls out to Tsubaki. It is Hiro. While still holding her mannequin head, Tsubaki and friends approach him. Long haired friend is gushing that it is the person himself. She asks him why he is there. Hiro tells her that he is there to discuss the details of a special beauty symposium that he is in charge with. Long haired friend squeals if that is true, then it’s amazing, she eagerly anticipates it. Hiro clarifies that even if he said it is beauty, but it isn’t for the school in Tokyo but rather, the sister school in Kyoto. While long haired friend is disappointed to hear that, Hiro looks at Tsubaki and says that there is something that he would want to trouble her with. In her bedroom, Tsubaki happily calls up Kyouta about her working trip to Kyoto. Hiro will be going to their school’s branch in Kyoto, and she get to go there as his assistant. Kyouta says, Hananoi..huh.. Tsubaki exclaims yes, because it is a working trip the school will shoulder all of the expenses and it will be a two days and one night trip starting on Oct 31st so this way, she can go there directly to celebrate his birthday. Kyouta lets out a laugh that Tsubaki asks him what it is. Kyouta says no..it is just that for the first time since they were talking on the phone, she is this happy. “Are you very happy because you can see me?” This made Tsubaki blush but she exclaims her denial by saying that she is only happy because she doesn’t have to pay the transportation fees. Kyouta just smiles over it and says that he is very happy that they’ll get to see each other *Tsubaki blushes more* because this year, they have reached the ‘three year plan’ and it is a very special day. Tsubaki says, yes.

Cover page: “Finally..into the finale!! And, live action movie has been decided!!! It is really great that I was able to like you.” Narration: “It really makes one excited to be called a ‘female high school student’ and, meeting by chance one’s perfect lover. Falling in love. Striving hard to make oneself become beautiful each day.” On Tsubaki’s table is her teddy bear and bracelet. She finishes curling her hair with an iron and is satisfied with her look. “Today, like this, I will graduate from high school life.” Heading out, Tsubaki says that she’s going. While fixing her pearl necklace, her mother calls out to her and comments that her skirt is too short. Tsubaki apologizes and tries to fix it but her mother smiles and tells her that today is the last day she will be wearing her uniform, so she can wear it anyway she likes. This made Tsubaki blush. Her mother sighs and asks why she isn’t going to say the graduation speech when she is obviously the number one ranking in her year level. Tsubaki explains that according to the usual practice, it is always the job of the student president to say the speech. Just when Tsubaki is about to go out again, her mother says that after Tsubaki decided not to go into a university, she still didn’t slacked off in school, until the end. “*smiles* No wonder you are my ‘worthy to be proud of’ daughter.” Tsubaki smiles back and says that she is going. Standing at the corridor along with the others, Miho comments that next will be the graduation ceremony and yet, it still doesn’t feel real. Tsubaki agrees with her and says that this is the last time when they will see each other like this [the usual way since they are classmates]. Happily holding Tsubaki’s shoulder and pulling her to her, Miho exclaims what she is talking about when they aren’t going somewhere else. “Even if we graduate, we can still always see each other!!” Tsubaki blushes and exclaims, yes! Miho sighs and asks how come Kyouta who is going to study in Kyoto is still not there, could it be that he plans to not participate in the graduation ceremony. Tsubaki says that speaking of that, yesterday.. Flashback: While hugging Tsubaki, Kyouta said that he already had sufficient days of attendance, and attending the graduation ceremony is quite troublesome. End flashback. Miho comments that she understands Kyouta’s feelings for she also feels that the principal’s talk is too long. Tsubaki protests that graduation ceremony is a valuable memory of one’s life. Putting her hands on Tsubaki’s shoulder, Miho assures her that it is okay, Kyouta will definitely come. “Because, today is the last day when one can date, while in uniform. *thumbs up. Tsubaki goes huh* Starting tomorrow, if you were to wear your uniform, won’t it be like cosplay!?” Tsubaki lamely says ya..

The karaoke store is decorated with Halloween decors. At a karaoke room, Tsubaki holds out an envelope to Kyouta and exclaims, “Tsubaki-kun! Happy 18th Birthday!!” On the table, there are a cellphone, a birthday cake, and a projector. Taking a circular film from the envelope, Kyouta comments that it is a film again this year. Putting the film in the projector, Tsubaki says that this is the last one, and next year, she will be giving him that main part, the projector. She opens the projector and says that except for a year, the three year plan is complete. Kyouta says that before, he thought it is idiotic when she said about giving a part of the gift throughout three years but it will soon be over. Tsubaki answers that next year, he ought to be in college at Kyoto and she might not be able to give it to him directly, like this. There is silence. Then, Tsubaki claps her hand and says that it would be fine if Kyouta can pass to get in Seigu University. It is one of the top super hard universities and even if it is Kyouta, it is also impossible to easily qualify.. Tsubaki stops talking to look at Kyouta who is seriously looking at her. She quickly backtracks and says that she wasn’t thinking that it is definite that he won’t pass. Kyouta asks if she really didn’t think about it because if he wasn’t able to pass, it is okay for him not to go to Kyoto and they can be always be together like this. To his surprise, Tsubaki bluntly tells him that she totally didn’t think of that because when they went there before, she realized that it isn’t too far and didn’t he say that he can see her whenever he wants to. “And, if I want to see you, I can also go to Kyoto. So from today on, I’ll start to economize to save money that will be used to buy Shinkansen tickets. So, this year’s gift is only a homemade cake. Sorry. Okay, let’s eat the cake.” Kyouta starts to mumbling things. Then, to her shock, he says that she is really not cute, not one bit. Tsubaki says that wasn’t that during the first and second day..and he knew that already before he went steady with her. Kyouta says that it isn’t that. “End of summer vacation. When changing clothes. Thinking that graduation is now half a year away.. Thinking that we’ll be apart. In the end, feeling that.. it is a bit lonely.. *Tsubaki blushes* ..like this *touches Tsubaki’s face* At any time I can touch your face, would also be few.. *Tsubaki couldn’t believe that Kyouta would feel lonely* And speaking of that, are those the things what a girlfriend should be saying? *angrily pinching her cheek* Your answer is quite straightforward.. Let me say that you are always a trick exam question.”

At the parlor, Hiro sees Tsubaki still there. He asks her what she is doing and why didn’t she go home yet. While blow drying her hair, Tsubaki says that she couldn’t braid her hair properly so she wet it..unfortunately, she made it too wet. After a pause, Hiro asks if she is going on a date with her boyfriend to that fireworks display. Tsubaki exclaims how he knew. Looking at her bracelet, Hiro says that he easily know it. Tsubaki blushes and tells him that a lot of things happened last year but this year, they’ll definitely.. She is startled when the cellphone rings. Kyouta wrote that he is waiting for her outside the store. Tsubaki starts to fret what to do that Hiro offers to help her with the braid. Remembering Kyouta telling her that he is unhappy if she is with Hiro, Tsubaki quickly stops Hiro and tells him that it is alright for her to do it by herself. While fixing her hair, she tells him that during work, she secretly learned his technique. Hiro laughs and says that it isn’t that easy to learn it secretly through work. To his surprise, Tsubaki has already done it well. She asks him how it is. Tsubaki is surprised when Hiro semi-hugs her from behind and mutters that she is really..her strong passion to learn is really astonishing that he lost to her. Tsubaki is a bit tense then Hiro lets out a laugh that during this time, her braided hair would fly away so she better be careful. Tsubaki is surprised that a strand of hair is flying away. While Tsubaki tries to fix it again, Hiro says ‘gambatte’ before going out of the door. Outside the door, slightly blushing Hiro looks up and sighs. While Kyouta is using his cellphone, Hiro approaches him and tells him that Tsubaki will be coming soon. Kyouta’s expression sours that Hiro tells him not to have that detestable face because it is so obvious. Pointing to his wrist, Hiro says that Kyouta had already found Tsubaki’s bracelet. Kyouta said that he lied down on his stomach [looking for it]. Hiro asks if he looked for it as if his life depended on it, when he obviously said that it doesn’t matter. Hiro comments that he is unexpectedly disappointing. Closing the flip of his cellphone, Kyouta says that it is mutual for Hiro knew that it is something very important, and yet, he dropped it. He also knew that he [Kyouta] has a date with Tsubaki but he would specially made Tsubaki participate in that lecture. Kyouta tells him that he’s really disappointing to do that to a high schooler. Hiro laughs and says that he’s right and maybe it would better for him to get Tsubaki to do something so that they cannot go in time for the fireworks display.

Cover page: “The power of love♥” Holding Kyouta’s right hand with both her hands, Tsubaki had confessed that she likes him. Surprised Kyouta goes, “..Ha..?” Tsubaki blushes really red for she suddenly blurted that out. Quickly taking her hands off Kyouta’s, Tsubaki tells him that it is because he startled her. “I didn’t think that Tsubaki-kun would come here right now. *gathering the things and putting it in her bag* I just came here today to check the place out and go through a trial run. And after writing you about it, you also totally do not have any response that I thought you won’t come. *zips bag* Ah! Like this, preparation is almost done.. *quickly runs off* Then, properly anticipate it, tomorrow’s shooting star viewing--~~~” Surprised Kyouta calls for her to wait but he couldn’t chase after her because of his foot. Still running, embarrassed Tsubaki thinks that she had obviously thought of this plan to its tiniest detail, yet she unexpectedly jumped towards to bluntly confessing. Then, she hears some rustling sound and Kyouta saying it hurts. She turns around to see Kyouta bending down and holding his foot. Dropping her bags, Tsubaki hurriedly rushes to him and asks if he is alright and does his foot hurts. Tsubaki is worried that if Kyouta gets hospitalized again, he would really have to retain a grade. Then, Kyouta looks up to her and calls her name. Pinching her nose, he smiles and says, “You were tricked. Idi-ot.” Teary-eyed and flustered, Tsubaki hits away his hand and shouts that he’s so mean since she was really worried about him. “And, starting from a moment ago, you’re always saying I’m an idiot.. Tsubaki-kun, while you were absent, during those times, I’m number 1 in the exams..” She is surprised when Kyouta leans on her back and asks if there is anything she is going to report to him. This made Tsubaki blush. She says, “Yes... I’ve.. decided to become a hairstylist. After graduation, I’m going to study at a school that specializes in hairstyling. And, I’ve already convinced my mother who had always oppose it. *holds hands tight* So.. please let me become your girlfriend once again..!”

It is 7:16am in the morning and Tsubaki is standing outside the school gate to wait for Kyouta. She thinks that today is when Kyouta is coming to school again. Because she had cancelled their date yesterday, she wants to be early than anyone in seeing Kyouta. Soon, some students are coming in. In the end, the bell is already ringing and Kyouta hasn’t arrived yet. This forced Tsubaki to go to class. In the classroom, Tsubaki looks at the empty seat beside her and wonders what happened. The PE teacher is telling everyone about the upcoming sports [balls] competition and he would want the class to win. It is around this time when tired Kyouta arrives in class. Tsubaki is calling him midway when two fangirls ‘cover’ her up by saying that they thought he won’t be coming when they eagerly anticipated his return. Just when Tsubaki is about to say something again, the PE teacher is shouting at Kyouta for being late on the first day and he is way too relaxed. Kyouta’s attendance record is already on the line and it will be over for him if he is late one more time. While some girls are surrounding him, Kyouta tells the teacher that he went out of his house early but he is walking slow like a turtle that even old people pass him by, so could he be more lenient with him. The PE teacher says that rules are rules so tomorrow, he should leave the house at dawn. Kyouta is speechless over that. He sits down and thinks that the PE teacher still has a grudge on him regarding what happened last year. Blushing Tsubaki greets Kyouta a good morning and says that it must be tiring to walk without the clutch. She asks him if he is okay, his foot doesn’t hurt. Without looking at her, Kyouta says, ya. This surprises Tsubaki. She apologizes about yesterday for not able to go with him to the planetarium but she can go today. Kyouta tells her that he already went to see it, so he doesn’t want to go anymore because it is super boring. Tsubaki becomes tense as she realizes that Kyouta is angry at her. She thought that she had become relaxed since she got his message that it was fine, but apparently, it was not.

Cover Page: “Tsubaki and Kyouta promised to meet again. Finally--!?” On the third day of the term exam, Tsubaki is answering her exam papers in school. The bell rings and it is finally over. Miho exclaims that it will be very bad if she fails but then, it cannot be helped anymore because it is over. She asks if Tsubaki has any plans to go out. She is surprised to see Tsubaki smiling happily. At first, Miho thinks that it is because she did very well at the exams. “Ah, no, it is because Kyouta is going back to school tomorrow!” With clasped hands, Tsubaki says that is true but before that, today after work, she had agreed to meet with Kyouta to go to the planetarium together. Miho exclaims if that means, today they are going to reconcile. Tsubaki happily smiles. Miho gets teary-eyed and says that it’s really good because she really worried if things will be okay when they separated. She commends Tsubaki for doing her best and doing it well. The others are surprised when they hug each other and cry. At parfait parlor, Tsubaki is called to sweep the floor. Carrying the broom, she says that she’s going. Someone calls her name but she has already prepared the things needed to curl the hair. The manager comments that Tsubaki is more enthusiastic now than she normally is. Hiro laughs and says that something good has happened. Hiro calls out to Tsubaki and asks if she had smoothly reconciled with that good looking boyfriend [of hers]. Tsubaki is shock that she drops the rollers. Picking them up, Tsubaki apologizes and asks how come he knew about it. Hiro tells her that it is because she told him during the school festival. Tsubaki had told him that she can finally go back to his [Kyouta] side. Tsubaki tells him that they still haven’t reconciled but later today, they have a date so, at that time.. Hiro smiles and says is that so and it is still quite difficult. Since Tsubaki is puzzled, Hiro tells her that they are going to close the store early today because afterwards, the store’s boss is going to do a special lecture. Hiro informs her that their boss is Daiki-san [guesswork name from 大槻] who in charge of fashion hairstyling in Paris. Hiro says that Daiki-san is an amazing guy and every year, he would show them the technique once. Hiro laments that every time he watches Daiki-san, he feels that his [Hiro] technique isn’t that mature that he is quite frustrated. Tsubaki is discouraged when Hiro mentions that there are limited staff members allowed to participate but this time around, workers are specially accommodated to join.

Cover page: “Finally, Tsubaki got her mother’s approval on her future prospect. Afterwards, at the cultural festival, Kyouta and Hananoi--!?” While Tsubaki is busy fixing the hair of a customer for the photo shoot, Kyouta sees Hiro holding the bracelet. Looking at Hiro, Kyouta recognizes him as the hairstylist in the magazine which featured Tsubaki. He wonders why that guy is here at their school’s cultural festival. “Speaking of that, the thing in the guy’s hand is--” Hiro smiles and asks Kyouta what it is. Kyouta turns around and says that it is nothing. While Kyouta is walking away, Hiro remembers Tsubaki telling her that during the end term of the second year, her boyfriend got severely injured and until now, he is rehabilitating at home. Hiro asks, “Could it be that you are Hibino’s boyfriend?” Kyouta turns around that Hiro perks up that he guessed it right. Hiro tells him that he heard it from Tsubaki but he isn’t quite like how he imagined him to be. Pointing at the bracelet, Kyouta asks Hiro why he has that. Hiro says that it fell at THAT PLACE. “Hibino was at my PLACE, frequently helping me WASH [my] HAIR. And it always gets entangled on the hair. Such a hindrance so she removed it and in the end, she forgot to take it again..” Kyouta smoothly says that [what happened was] Tsubaki, she..during work at the beauty parlor, while practicing to wash hair, she took it off then.. just forgot about getting it back. This made Hiro laugh and say that Kyouta totally got it right and it is really boring because it is rare for him to add details to the story to make the explanation interesting. Kyouta admits that he wavered a bit [<- it might be Hiro who said this] but he [Kyouta] really knows what kind of person Tsubaki is. Kyouta thanks Hiro for specially bringing that thing back, and he’ll give it back to Tsubaki. Hiro smiles and just when he is going to give it to Kyouta, he takes it back. To Kyouta’s surprise, Hiro says that he won’t give it to an EX-boyfriend for aren’t they currently separated or one would say, not going steady so there is no reason for him to give it to Kyouta. Kyouta looks dark, angry and speechless over this. Kyouta is surprised when Hiro says that from what Kyouta said just now, it looks like he really understands Tsubaki but is it really like that. Hiro tells him that depending on that thing, Tsubaki cannot overcome being separated and during the times he doesn’t know, Tsubaki has already changed. “Actually, it is through my hand that she has already changed. Making her think that no matter how many disappointments and feeling useless but if it is an important thing, she would absolutely not let it go.”

And so, Meio School Festival starts. Wearing a panda hat, Nishiki happily invites a couple of girls to try out in ‘becoming someone unlike oneself’, wherein they can dress up as as a maid, wear a cheongsam [Chinese dress], or even doll, all sorts of outfits then they’ll take a picture. While holding a board of sample pictures, Cat-outfit Haru tells them that not only that, they will also fix up their hair to suit the outfit. He raves that the skill of their hairstyling is at par with a professional’s work. The girls are interested in it. So Nishiki happily calls out that they will have two customers. He is interrupted when someone is shouting that it hurts. A female customer angrily shouts at apologetic Tsubaki as to how many times she had told her not to pull her hair [to clip it]. “It’s enough! Give my money back!!” While Tsubaki tries to pacify the customer, Nishiki notices that their two potential customers had already left. Nishiki shouts at Tsubaki as to what’s wrong with her that the customers had run away. Tsubaki just apologizes. She thinks that she couldn’t concentrate and be driven about it. “The bracelet that Tsubaki-kun gave me. I unexpectedly left it at work... What if it is accidentally thrown away while I had swept the floor [with hair]..” At the door, Hiro, who is wearing a hat and glasses [to disguise himself?], is holding the bracelet. He mutters that this is really serious for Tsubaki has already lost her state of mind just because of not being able to find an important thing. “It seems that the bracelet is necessary for her willpower. Obviously liking [each other/Kyouta] that much, then why did [they] separate..” Hiro then hears someone says, “I see. In the end, it totally won’t do at all.” Hiro looks at the side and sees a woman holding a complimentary ticket. It is Tsubaki’s mother. Some of the guys tell Tsubaki’s mother that she is holding a complimentary ticket so why doesn’t she come in and what kind of outfit does she want to wear. Tsubaki’s mother says no, she came to see her daughter. Hearing the noise at the door, Tsubaki looks out to see that her mother came. While trying to curl the customer’s hair with a curling iron, Tsubaki is trembling and nervous. She tells herself that this isn’t the time to be upset [/agonizing about it]. “In order for mama to approve of letting me become a hairstylist, it is a must that I get to show mama my good side--” Tsubaki lost her grip on the curling iron when she had accidentally let go of the pressing lever and it hit her thumb. She panics as she sees the curling iron about to drop on the customer’s bare leg.

Tsubaki’s mother asks Tsubaki what’s up with her. Holding a booklet about a beauty academy, Tsubaki tells her that after graduating from high school, she wants to go there because she wants to become a hairstylist. So, she had withdrawn from going to the cram school which is already unnecessary. Her mother asks how she can do that so easily when the guardian’s permission is required. [There is a blank speech bubble here but I’m guessing that Tsubaki took her mother’s signature seal and used it without permission.] Her mother is flustered over how could Tsubaki use that at will. Then, she slaps Tsubaki. While Tsubaki holds her slapped face, her mother asks if Tsubaki knows what she is doing. Her mother scolds her for suddenly betraying her trust. Tsubaki shouts that she also doesn’t want this but she has no choice but to do it, because she [mother] won’t properly listen to her. Tsubaki apologizes for wasting her money unjustly for fees of the cram school this half year, but she will work to slowly pay her back. Her mother is puzzled when she mentioned work. Tsubaki tells her that she has been working at a beauty parlor last month. Her mother asks how can that be, so Tsubaki has been coming home late is not because she is self-studying at the cram school. Tsubaki tells her that in order to become a hairstylist, she is studying at that place. Her mother suddenly pushes her down on the floor that they are now both kneeling on the floor. Her mother asks what’s wrong with her and she isn’t this kind of child. Looking away, Tsubaki says yes, for she is a child who always acts in accordance to her mother’s wishes [/expectation] that she doesn’t think for herself. Her mother looks surprised over that. Her mother protests that being like that, Tsubaki cannot go to college. Tsubaki tells her mother that she simply wants to do something that she likes doing, and she doesn’t want anything else except for hairstyling. Her mother insists that she go to college and she might regret it later on. Tsubaki says that it is the same, vice-versa, if she doesn’t become a hairstylist, she might also regret it. Teary-eyed and flustered, Tsubaki tells her mother that even if she regrets, it is okay because this is the path that she had chosen. Her mother continues to plead to her but Tsubaki remains firm. Soon, her mother stands up and leaves the room.

Narration: “Even if I made a lot of detours, but finally, I found my goal!!” Tsubaki exclaimed to Hiro that she wants to be a hairstylist. At *parfait salon, at the cashier, the manager calls out to Tsubaki that she can get off work. Tsubaki tells her yes, but she’ll finish sweeping first before leaving. As Tsubaki sweeps the floor, the manager tells Hiro that Tsubaki is not bad at all, and no wonder she is recommended by Hiro. Hiro says that it is good to hire Tsubaki since she is very serious at work and he should properly consider what he wants. Hiro then says to forget about that, he eagerly anticipates Tsubaki’s 150 percent. The manager sighs and tells him that Tsubaki hasn’t worked for a month yet, and she is already doing very well. Tsubaki bows and thanks her for the compliment. When Tsubaki is bidding her goodbye, the manger shows her a flyer and asks if Tsubaki wants to go there. It is a one day orientation of a beauty school. The manager tells her that Hiro graduated from that school and this coming Saturday, Hiro is going to hold a hairstyle design demonstration. “So, do you want to go and watch it?” Holding the flyer, Tsubaki asks, “Saturday?” Hiro tells the manager not to do that for seeing Tsubaki having such perseverance [in doing everything?], he doesn’t want to go with her. This surprises Tsubaki that she exclaims, what!? Hiro asks if he is mistaken for wasn’t she going to have an exam for cram school this Saturday. “Anyway, you won’t openly resist your parents, and you cannot convince them, right? Then, that exaggerated [/boastful] declaration [ of ‘I want to be a hairstylist’] is really nothing, right? *turns around and wave goodbye* You’ve really disappointed me!! Good work! [<- polite saying after work]” The manager scowls at Hiro. Tsubaki looks flustered. At home, Tsubaki exclaims that she is home. Her mother is sitting on the dining table and seems to be reading a booklet/magazine about schools. Sakura is watching the television. Tsubaki’s mother asks if Tsubaki has been studying late again, and was she eating alright, is she hungry. Tsubaki tells her that she is okay. Happily flipping through the booklet, her mother says that last time, Tsubaki got very good grades in the exam and it will be nice if this time around, Tsubaki can get into [her] ideal university. Her mother asks if Tsubaki will soon determine which school is her first choice. Tsubaki nervously interrupts her and asks if they have the money for it. Her mother says that there will be all sorts of expenses but she will also do her best just like Tsubaki, so Tsubaki shouldn’t worry and just properly do her best to get into the ideal university as her goal. Tsubaki shouts for her to wait, and didn’t she tell her before, she doesn’t want to go to college. “I want to go study in a school that specializes in hairstyling.”

Cover page: "Separated for two months, reuniting with Kyouta, Tsubaki will.." Flustered Tsubaki looks at expressionless Kyouta whom she heard will be retained for a year. Her eyes widen when Kyouta turns away from her. While Kyouta is being interrogated by some girls about being retained for a year and Kyouta is surprised where they learned about it, Tsubaki thinks that Kyouta has looked away from her without situation. She dismisses it as something inevitable, because it is her fault that his life is all messed up. Putting his arm around Kyouta, Nishiki points to him where his seat is and asks if he is going to class. Kyouta tells him how could he and isn’t it obvious because of his [casual] clothes. Then, Kyouta notices that Tsubaki is looking really flustered as if she is on the verge of tears. The school bell rings. The teacher comes in and tells the student that is enough, lunch break is over. Some girls tell Kyouta to come back to school soon. Nishiki bids Kyouta goodbye. Looking down and holding her other arm, Tsubaki thinks that it isn’t easy seeing each other after two months of separation. Kyouta walks to his seat and sits down. He calls out to the teacher that he’s not going to do anything when he gets back home so can he sit in class. Flustered Tsubaki looks up when the teacher says that it is okay. The teacher tells Tsubaki to share her textbook with Kyouta. Tsubaki says yes. Tsubaki pushes her table to Kyouta’s then puts the textbook in between their tables. Tsubaki urges him to look but to her shock, Kyouta won’t look at it. Tsubaki continues to be flustered then she writes a note on a sheet of her notebook and passes it to Kyouta to read. “I’m sorry. If you are going to be retained for a year, then even if I apologize.. [/it’s my fault] I’m really very sorry..” Tsubaki closes her eyes and braces for an answer. Kyouta looks at her then takes a pen from her pencil case. Tsubaki opens her eyes to see what he is doing then closes them again. Her heart is beating fast and loud. She opens her eyes again to see the note that Kyouta put on her table. “I won’t be retained. It’s barely enough. [/Do not worry about it, it is alright.] Getting well is also going smoothly. By the way..we are seatmates again.” [<-About being retained, from what I’ve understood, it is an almost but it is okay now so no need to worry about.] Tsubaki looks flustered-surprised for even if Kyouta had a right arm fracture, he can already do this..writing well to this extent. “After we separated, he had properly done his best. *Flashback of Kyouta hugging her and promising that he’ll get well soon. She promised to find her own future.* Compared to Tsubaki-kun, I..”

Cover page: “Want to see you.. want to be near you.. It has become a one-sided wishful thinking!” At *parfait parlor, a girl complains to her friend that she really wanted to have Hananoi cut her hair. Her friend tells her that it is because she didn’t get a reservation. At the side, the receptionist apologizes to someone on the phone and says that one has to reserve a month ahead for Hananoi since he is already fully booked for the month. Sitting at the waiting area, Tsubaki browses through the magazines which features Hananoi Hiro with the ‘before and after’ hairstyles. Then, she looks at Hiro telling the girls earlier that he himself will definitely help them in styling their hair. The other friend says that is a deal. Tsubaki looks surprised for she didn’t expect Hiro to be such an amazing type of person. She just really wanted to know the technique in making that hairstyle before so she immediately agreed to become Hiro’s model, without thinking too much about it. She quietly look at the covers of the magazines that features short hairstyles and dyed hair. Hiro apologizes to Tsubaki for the wait and tells her to go to the second floor. Tsubaki interrupts him and asks if he can please not cut her hair short and because of school, do not dye it either. “If that’s how it is, can you still practice?” Hiro seems puzzled that Tsubaki explained that since he said that she’ll be a model, could it be that he is going to make her try out some new shampoo product or try out a new hairstyle. A guy with a hat, who seems to be a co-worker, laughs and asks what she is saying for right now, how could Hiro even need a model to practice? Hiro smiles and pulls down the other guy’s head to shut him up. He assures Tsubaki to relax for this time, he is just making a draft [/try out] hair braid so he fundamentally won’t be cutting her hair. Tsubaki mutters, braid.. At the second floor, Tsubaki is sitting on the chair. While Hiro holds her hair, he says that she had really took care of her hair. Then, he ends up caressing her hair gently and kneeling to it. He comments that he really cannot help but kneel in admiration with this hair. He is infatuated with Tsubaki’s hair. =P Tsubaki is somewhat embarrassed over the ‘kneeling’. Then, she thanks him regarding before, the things that he told her. That is for her to keep taking care of her hair even if she is troubled for it will surely help cheer her up. Tsubaki tells him that even if her problem hasn’t been resolved but the time she spent on feeling dejected had gradually decreased. Tsubaki thinks that she doesn’t want Kyouta to see her with such a messy unkempt hair. She would want to quickly see him and for this, she shouldn’t be discouraged and keep on looking for what her aspiration is. Hiro smiles over that. Then, he says okay, let’s get started.

Cover: “‘Like’ it is to make my thoughts of longing for you to become my strength.” Tsubaki cries and says that what she wants to do in college has no progress at all. She thinks, “And, the day when I’ll be reunited with Tsubaki-kun might also never come.” The guy tensely looks at her as he waves Tsubaki’s ballpen. Tsubaki is surprised when the guy suddenly holds her hair. She tries to make him stop by asking what he is doing. She also wonders what she is doing for crying in front of some unknown unscrupulous salesman. Tsubaki tells him not to touch her. The man tells her not to move for there is a caterpillar on her head. This surprises Tsubaki that she fearfully repeats that it’s a cater.. The man tells her to close her eyes because it might be bad if it falls on her eyes. Covering her face with her hands, Tsubaki tearfully closes her eyes and thinks that things are really at its worst for her scalp might have an inflammation and she ought to wash her hair at home. She then asks the man if it is already okay. The man says no, it went into her hair and he also doesn’t dare touch it with his hand. Tsubaki gloomily thinks that is true. “If at this time, if it’s Tsubaki-kun.. He will definitely first laugh. *Imaginary Kyouta laughs in disbelief* Then, it won’t matter to him since he will help her by quickly using his own hand to drive it away. *Imaginary Tsubaki holds Kyouta’s hand and says that it is quite red. Kyouta would laugh and says that it is no big deal.* I will definitely worry if it will cause an inflammation or not. *Smiling Kyouta will hug blushing Tsubaki and say that she is worrying too much.* I really want to see you..” Then, the man says that it is okay, she can open her eyes. While the man is holding her to a store’s glass window, Tsubaki sees her hair beautifully made up with a couple of pansies. Tsubaki’s eyes widen in shock as she looks closely at herself on the glass. While wondering what that man just did, Tsubaki timidly asks him about the caterpillar. Holding up his hands, the man says with a sparkle, “I used magic to turn it into flowers.” To the man’s surprise, Tsubaki turns around and sees some pansies at the flower terrace. She asks if he plucked those flowers from the street.

Cover page: “Even if I’ve resolved on this.. temporarily separating so that we’ll be together in the future” At home, Tsubaki is helping her mother wash the dishes. She remembers Sakura’s words about not visiting her injured boyfriend and as a girlfriend, Tsubaki is a failure and she’ll definitely be dumped. Tsubaki is surprised when her mother comments that in the end, Tsubaki is such an intelligent girl. Closing the faucet, her mother commends her for not letting her feelings at this time to get it into her head [/act irrationally] that she would consider her future first, and like this, she would even distance herself from him [/Kyouta]. “Mama can now relax!” Somewhat surprised, Tsubaki calls her mother. Shaking in irritation, her mother tells her that when Tsubaki goes out early and returns home late, then she would talk about boyfriend and her skirt is getting shorter and shorter, did Tsubaki know how angry she was that she felt she’s going to faint. “But for the current Tsubaki-chan, there is no longer any reason to take it. *opens drawer and gives Tsubaki’s cellphone back* Here.. *Tsubaki looks surprised* Today, it seems that you have encountered something scary. [Referring to meeting the suspicious guy] In order to be on your guard, you should have this cellphone. Next time, do not make mama be disappointed again..” To her mother’s surprise, Tsubaki exclaims, “Even so.. no.. I don’t want it.” Seeing her mother’s reaction, Tsubaki tries to cover her outburst by saying that she unexpectedly does not want it since normally, she also doesn’t use her cellphone much. Tsubaki quickly finishes putting the dishes in the cabinet. Before leaving, she tells her mother to just cancel the number or she [mother] can just go ahead use it instead. Her mother looks quite surprise-tense by Tsubaki’s reaction.

And, it is spring. Spring means a new school year. Everyone is checking their classroom assignments. Miho happily shouts to Tsubaki that they are classmates. Tsubaki exclaims if that’s true. Miho screams that they are all together in one class this year. Haru, together with his cats, say that he is also in their class. Flashing a v-sign, Nishiki says that he, too, is in the same class. Sakura is furious that she is the only one who is left out. She gets angry at Nishiki for being happy. “Nishiki, you idiot, I hate you.” Nishiki freaks out over this. With a somewhat bored look, Miho says that it is inevitable since Sakura is a year lower than them. When she is asking Tsubaki if she is right about that, Miho notices that Tsubaki is looking at the classroom assignments. Miho says that is right, it is quite baffling that unexpectedly, everyone is in one same class. It turns out that Kyouta is also in their class. This made Tsubaki think that God likes to play practical jokes on her. In section 3-5, at the start of the class, the teacher tells everyone that they ought to know already that Tsubaki Kyouta got into an accident and is currently recuperating. “It seems that around summer season, he’ll be able to go back to school. So, until that time, everyone, [hope you’ll] help him a lot--” While someone is asking if Kyouta’s injuries are that serious and someone answered that he broke his right arm and leg, Tsubaki looks aghast. She thinks that last year, she prayed with all her might but her wish didn’t come true. There is a scene of Tsubaki hoping to be in the same class as Kyouta. “Then, when I want to separate [/cool off] for a while with Tsubaki-kun.. Why is it that it turned out like this.. *looks at the empty seat beside her* he became my seatmate.. When Tsubaki-kun goes back to school, what kind of expression should I use then..”

At the zoo, after she leaves Kyouta in the wheelchair at the side, Tsubaki starts going back and forth, squealing over the cute animals . Kyouta tells her that if they stop in every place for her to look at the animals, when are they going to reach their destination. Tsubaki looks embarrassed. She starts pushing him again and apologizes. Then, her eyes sparkle. To Kyouta’s shock, Tsubaki zooms him away while shouting, “There’s a lion there!” =P Then, Tsubaki is looking at the lion that is pretending to be dead/sleeping from a window. Tsubaki urges Kyouta to come and look for there is space there. Kyouta says that he cannot see it [because the window is high above the wheelchair]. Tsubaki says is that so. To his surprise, Tsubaki puts his arm around her and helps him stand up to see it. Kyouta protest and tells her to let go because she cannot support him. Tsubaki insists that she can. While she is telling him to look at the lion, she is surprise that it has already left. She loses her balance that soon, she is kneeling while trying to keep Kyouta standing up. While she is helping to support him in standing up, a couple of young boys tease them for not being ashamed in doing lovey-dovey in public. Flustered Tsubaki tries to tell them that she is helping Kyouta stand and not doing some lovey-dovey. To her surprise, Kyouta tells the boys that they are right. Hugging Tsubaki, Kyouta asks them if they are jealous. One of the boys asks if they kiss. Kyouta tells them that they always kiss and would they want to see it. While Tsubaki is looking flustered and Kyouta is leaning close to her, one of the boys asks why they kiss. Kyouta smiles at them and says, “Because.. because I like her!” This surprises Tsubaki that it made her blush. After recovering a bit, she puts him back on the wheelchair and exclaims that they should continue [to walk]. As she pushes Kyouta on his wheelchair, flustered Tsubaki thinks that they obviously mutually love each other and yet, this is the last day for them to be together.

Tsubaki is speechless after Kyouta told her that there’s no need for her to come again. Tsubaki asks him why. Kyouta seems surprised [/was thinking of something] then he tells her no [but what he meant is], later on, he will be doing his recuperation exercises [/physical therapy] so even if she comes, he won’t be there so there’s no need for her to come everyday. Relieved Tsubaki says is that what it is but then, it is okay for her to just see him so there’s no need for him to be concerned about her. Kyouta says that isn’t what he meant. Lying back down on the bed, Kyouta tells her if she wasted an hour in going there and she wasn’t able to see him, it will just bother him a lot. Tsubaki says is that so and that incident might happen. Tsubaki suggests about meeting on a week with two rest days [/weekends] since she has no class, and they can coincide it during the time when he isn’t going to have his therapy. Kyouta hesitantly agrees to that. While pulling up her sleeve, Tsubaki winks and happily asks if there is anything else he would want her to do. “Please do not be shy and just tell me if it is laundry or whatever it is.” Looking away, Kyouta says that he doesn’t need anything else though actually, he is tired and would want to sleep for a while, so sorry but can she go home first for today. Tsubaki is disappointed to hear that, but she can only apologize for troubling him. While picking up her things, Tsubaki tells him that she’ll come back on Saturday and next time, he ought to use the normal way of eating the tamagoyaki [egg omelet roll]. Just when Tsubaki is about to leave, Kyouta cannot endure it anymore that he sits up and calls her. “I suddenly remembered something important. Can you come here for a moment?” Surprised, Tsubaki asks what it is. Kyouta continues to urge her to come to his side. Then, he pulls her to him to kiss her. He smiles and says that he’ll wait for her on Saturday. Tsubaki blushes. She smiles and says, ya. She waves goodbye and left. Kyouta looks sad-thoughtful and probably angry because of his clenched fist. At the faculty room, Tsubaki asks her teacher what is the result of her make-up exams. Her teacher says that it is really good that based on her score, she is number 1 but regrettably, since it is a make-up exam, it cannot be counted into the official grade records. Tsubaki seriously asks her teacher that if she continues to work hard, can she get the recommendation into an elite school. The teacher says that if it is that school, whose public lecture she attended before, then there is no problem at all. The teacher is surprised when Tsubaki declares that she won’t be going to that school for she wants to get the recommendation of an even higher level university than that school. Tsubaki thinks that if she can get a university recommendation that will fully satisfy [/ is recognized by] her mother, and this way, her mother will approve of her relationship with Kyouta.
