During lunch, the girls, together with the two guys, are eating together at the roof. While talking, the girls are calling each other by their first names. Maria asks if Ayu is going to a specialized school. Ayu says yes, she plans to go to a school that specializes in cosmetics [/putting make-up]. Maria says that it really suits her, and what about Tomoyo. Tomoyo says that she hasn’t decided on it yet. Ayu urges Tomoyo to go to the same specialized school as her where Tomoyo would specialize on making clothes and stuff. Tomoyo exclaims that is a good idea and Maria should also take the entrance exam so that they all can be together in one school. Ayu tells Tomoyo that Maria won’t be studying after graduation. Maria affirms it. While they were talking, Shintaro quietly watches them. He thinks that when he notices it, the surrounding has already totally changed and, he always has that kind of feeling. Yuusuke asks Maria if it is true. Maria says yes, she wants to work or perhaps.. Shintaro interrupts and asks if he can also call ‘senpai’ as ‘Maria’. Maria tells him no. While Shintaro is pouting over this, Maria explains that it is because he is some sort of younger brother to her so it doesn’t feel right for him to call her by her first name. Shintaro thinks that he’ll drop this topic for originally, he has been regarded as some sort of ‘outsider’ alien before, but now, he also manages to enter Maria’s circle [of friends]. Shintaro sadly thinks that it is also the same when his parents abandoned him. To his delight, Maria asks Shintaro if today, she can go to his house. Putting on his best flirty and sparkling pose, Shintaro starts to unbutton his shirt and says that of course, she can and Maria finally had that kind of thinking. “I will definitely give you a night that you won’t forget.” To his dismay, Maria says that she wants to see John. Maria buttons pouting Shintaro’s shirt and tells him that she wants to inform John about her aspiration [after graduation] and it would be better to talk with him first about it. Flipping open his cellphone, Shintaro suggests that they also call Maria’s grandparents. He tells Maria that John has been visiting them at their company but they won’t talking with John so if Maria is coming, there is a reason for them to see each other. “Because you guys are ‘family’.” This made Maria blush and mutter, “‘Family’..” Shintaro smiles and thinks, “See, I can make someone happy, but, why.. do I always feel that I’m outside the circle..”

Chapter 83: It is December. Ayu calls out to Maria to do her homework for her since Maria seems to be idle. Tossing some booklets on Maria’s table, Ayu tells Maria that her parents bought her books on school exercises and since it is troublesome, she’ll leave it all for Maria to do. Maria calls out to Ayu that Ayu asks if she has complaints. Just when Maria is about to say something, black hair dyed Shintaro comes in and asks Maria if she likes his new image for he believes that Maria has a thing for black hair. Then, Yuusuke comes in and interrupts him by asking Maria if she is free after school, and would she want to study with everyone because his grades from the last exam are in the red and if he didn’t do his best, he will be in trouble. Maria looks at them and says that Shin is already gone for a few months, so even if they don’t do that, she also won’t be lonely anymore. The three are flustered for Maria realized their intention. She tells Ayu that there is no need for her to make her [Maria] do all sorts of things. She tells Shintaro that she is already happy so he can dye his hair back to its original color. She tells Yuusuke that his grades aren’t in the red last exam so he shouldn’t say a lie that would belittle himself. She adds but then, their exams grades are in some danger and speaking of that, Tomoyo who isn’t there yet. While in her ‘lovely transform’ pose, Maria tells them that she will kindly teach them their schoolwork. The others look tense since Maria will go Spartan on them but Shintaro seems to be anticipating it. =P Later on, Maria goes to the roof and thinks that when she just separated with Shin, she was so lonely that she couldn’t sleep. She takes out her cellphone and listens to Shin’s Ave Maria song. Maria thinks that it always pains her when she listens to Shin’s song on her phone but.. Maria notices Yuusuke that she quickly closes her flip phone and asks him what’s up. Yuusuke smiles and says that he is just strolling. Maria looks at him and says that he’s lying again for he obviously came so that she won’t be all alone by herself. Yuusuke denies it but Maria insists that he is lying for he would always say ‘everyone together’ go do something. Yuusuke tells her that it is more fun if everyone is together. He smiles and asks if they should return to class. Maria says okay, they should go study. Maria thinks that Yuusuke is always smiling and not asking any question. By herself, she had naturally went back in her circle of friends.

Soon, it is time to go back home. At the train station, John gives Maria a bag of sweets for her. Maria tells him that she cannot eat that many so John says she is right and he apologizes for it. He tells her that it is because he knows that she likes to eat sweets so he wasn’t careful that he bought a lot. Maria blushes a bit for he knew that she likes sweets. Maria asks him to take care of her grandparents and to occasionally visit them. John agrees to do so if they don’t mind. He tells her that he never thought of being forgiven and he plans to atone for what he did no matter how long it takes, and regarding what he did, he thinks that after a certain time, he can tell her all about it. Maria tells him that compared to that, she would rather hear about his feelings for her mother and the things that made him love her mother. John starts crying again and says yes. Maria comments that he is crying again. Shintaro says that John is a cry baby. Just as Maria and others boarded the train, John tells her that cross is something left behind by Anne and he heard that it is created by Anne and her friend – protective love’s circle. “You’ll definitely also create your own love circle..” At the train, Maria thinks about what he said. She then asks Shin if her mother’s friend is Sister Sarah. She notices that Shin is lost in thought while looking at his hand. He snaps out of it and asks what she just said. Maria asks about his hand. Shin changes the topic but Maria insists that he is lying for it looked very painful and they should have it checked at the hospital when they return. Shin tells her that he already did that the Yokohama hospital while waiting for her. Maria asks him what the diagnosis is. He blushes a bit and tells her that it is nothing and it is okay even if he ruthlessly bullies her. Maria blushes over this while Shintaro isn’t happy about that. While Shintaro is biting Shin’s head and asking what that bullying meant, Shin reminds her about this weekend. Maria says she knows. While they are fussing about, Yuusuke just quietly watches them.

Shin looks at his bandaged hand and thinks that the pain hasn’t subsided a bit. While a kid is asking Yuusuke to play with him, Yuusuke asks Shin if he is okay and does his hand still hurt. Shin somewhat smiles and just tells Yuusuke not to worry, he’ll just go out for a while for some fresh air. While walking out and looking at his hand, Shin wonders if this means that his hand hasn’t healed yet. He has only been using his left hand to play the piano for a short time yet his fingers [on the right] are still not flexible. Passing by the chapel, Shin wonders why he didn’t notice this before. Just when he realizes that it is because lately, he is only thinking about Maria’s issues, Shin sees Maria in the process of slapping John. Shin quickly shouts for Maria to stop because even if she slaps John, it is of no use. Maria looks at him and hesitates. Shin pleads for her to forget about it. Shin thinks that seeing Maria in so much pain, he just didn’t take it [his hand] into account. Overtaken by rage, Maria continues to give John a slap. Shin rushes to her to stop her but he hesitated after remembering John telling him that his tendon could be damaged. While closing his eyes, John manages to evade the slap. John opens his eyes and apologizes to flustered Maria that he didn’t mean to avoid it but it is because his body’s instinct is really good that it moved on its own. [<- probably since he used to be a soldier] “This time, I won’t avoid it, so please hit me.” Shin shouts for Maria that is enough but Maria tries to hit John again. John evades it again. Maria kept on angrily trying to hit him but John kept on apologizing that he doesn’t mean it but his body is moving on its own. ^^; Shin quickly goes to Maria and tries to hold her. He tells her to stop, calm down and even if she does that, it will not change anything. To Shin’s surprise, when he touches her shoulder, Maria immediately hesitates and stops. Shin wonders if it is because Maria wanted to protect his hand. Just then, Shintaro, Yuusuke and kid are there. Shintaro tells Maria not to hit her father for it will just hurt her more if she harbors bitterness in her heart. He says that he knows that kind of feeling since his parents beat him up and then abandoned him. All of his relatives avoided him and he has no place to stay. It is John who took him under his care so for him, John is his very important father. “I do not want for senpai to always hate John.” Shin shouts that is his own wishful thinking. Shintaro shouts that John has always been watching over and protecting her. Maria is surprised when Shintaro says that her mother and John even exchanged letters. Shin tells him to quit making things up. Shintaro exclaims that it is true for John treasured and kept all those letters. Those letters even recorded Maria’s growth. “Please, senpai, talk properly with John--” Shin shouts for him to quit saying more and not to force Maria. Everyone looks surprised-flustered. Thinking that he doesn’t want to see Maria’s pained expression, Shin asks them for some time and let the two of them be alone for a while. Shin thinks that he only wants Maria to live a calm and peaceful life yet why can’t this even be fulfilled.

Maria and others finally arrive at Yokosuka. Maria feels a bit nostalgic about the place but she thinks that there ought to be some changes there. Shintaro introduces Sukare-chan, a bird mascot in a sailor uniform to them. [Sukare = suka from Yokosuka and kare = curry. Sukare is short for Yokosuka Navy curry. When Japan opened to the world, it is here where curry is first introduced and the Japanese adapted it to their own taste. (Source: boingboing.net)] While Shintaro trivializes about whether the mascot is a seagull or a duck to Yuusuke, Shin notices that Maria is looking at a tunnel. Maria has remembered passing through it before. She starts running and recalling the familiar sights. The guys followed her. Soon, they found a dirty and run-downed two-story apartment. Maria recalls the time when there are a lot of people outside as her mother is taken by an ambulance. When Shin is expressing his concern about how Maria looks = pale/aghast, a woman asks what they are doing there for no one lives there anymore. The woman assumes that they are those people who would go on a ghost hunt [/test of courage type of games]. The woman complains about it being irritating since it has already been 10 years since the person living there had committed suicide. It has been affecting the neighborhood on how they are spreading rumors of a ghost there and they would leave trash all over the place [after the ghost hunt]. Soon, the woman changes her tune of welcoming Maria and others after they help clean up the place. Yuusuke uses his charm to loosen the tongue of the woman. The woman tells him that she feels that woman has not passed over since that woman who committed suicide is famous for being raped and in the end, the culprit was found not guilty. Then, later on, there’s something wrong with that woman’s brains because she suddenly decided on giving birth to that failure child. Later on, by the promenade, Shin is really angry over what that woman said. Shintaro tells him not to be that irritated for that woman is just saying whatever she wants. Maria thinks that Shintaro is right for the problem isn’t that but rather, she cannot forgive the man who raped her mother. They were surprised when Maria starts calling on her cellphone. It is a telephone operator [/directory to ask the phone number of people]. Shin takes the phone from her and tells her that she cannot talk so what she is doing. While putting the phone on his ear, Maria grabs his shirt that made Shin says, ‘Kawai’. The operator asks what the first name is. Going with the flow, Shin says that he doesn’t know but it is someone who resides in Yokosuka. Maria wanted to know more about this man from her mother’s relatives. Shin is informed that there are no guests[?] in the records for ‘Kawai’ but there is a ‘Kawai Manufacturing’ company. Shintaro tells them that he knows that place.

Narration: “Please hug me tightly, I want Meguro to forever and ever, be encircled in the middle [of my embrace].” After they break away, Shin hold/pats her head and thanks her. Blushing Maria shakes her head. She thinks, “That is obviously what I wanted to say, I want to say lots and lots of thanks to him. It would have been okay if I can use my mouth to say it. What should I do, in order for me to make a sound..” Shintarou looks displeased over this development. Back at the classroom, Yuusuke leads a toast for the success of their maid-music cafe. While Shin is holding a can of coffee, he asks Maria if it’s okay for her to drink yoghurt beverage [<- Yakult-type drink]. Maria holds his hand that is holding the coffee. He asks if she wants his coffee. He asks didn’t she hate sweet and okay, they’ll share. Yuusuke flashes a v-sign and happily congratulates them for becoming lovers ♡. Shin exclaims what he is saying. Yuusuke tells him not to be shy about it for it is so obvious. Tomoyo says that Maria is being spoiled by Shin. Ayu says that Shin looks shy. To the couple’s shock, they tell them that overall, the couple makes them feel disgusted [over their sweet lovey-dovey]. Shin is aghast and shaking from anger when Yuusuke tells the other girls that if Maria rejected Shin, he might have drop-dead. Tomoyo says that he’ll probably just be gloomy at home. Ayu says that there is a possibility that he would have become weak and then die. Shin darkly says that they are.. He stops when Yuusuke, who looks somewhat sad yet smiling, says, “Meguro, you should take good care of Maria, because it won’t do, if it isn’t you.” Shin is touched by what he said. Yuusuke holds his shoulder and tells him that there’s no need for them to go to the celebration party. “Just quickly go home and be lovey-dovey. Ah, but don’t harden up again, Meguro--” Shin goes into shock over that. As Shin gloomily leads Maria away, Tomoyo asks what it is and Yuusuke says that it is nothing, just something about Shin being ero/lewd.

Akuma to Love Song [Chapters 61-68]

[I’ll continue from where blottyparchment left off. About chapter 57, which wasn’t mentioned, what happened there is basically everyone is celebrating Tanabata [corrected by yuu_Chan, thanks ^^ According to wiki, it is is a Japanese festival which celebrates the stars in the sky. on this day, people around the world write their wishes on a piece of Tanabata paper [strips of colored paper] and hangs them on long bamboo branches.] that is initiated by Shintaro. Yuusuke wants to have a castle. Tomoyo wants to be number one in the exams. Shintaro hangs a lot of wishes which are all about the erotic stuff he wants to do with Maria. =P Shin’s wish is written by Maria and that is to play piano in a music hall. Shintaro had confronted Maria what she liked about Shin who is a gloomy and gutless guy. Maria admits that those are true but there is something passionate inside of Shin and he has a strong unwavering heart. That is what made her fall for him. She says that with a smile. Somewhere else, Shin finally gets his courage to convince his father to let him play at his Ave Maria concert. Shin seems to be not that determined that his father shouts at him being shameless and thinking he can go onstage just because he is his father. Shin suddenly becomes determined and tells his father that he won’t shame him and he can do this. While he is saying all that his father is smiling and I guess this is what he wanted to hear from Shin. =P Chapter 61 starts below:

Shintaro holds Maria’s face towards him as he leans as if to kiss her. Everyone looks surprised that they weren’t able to react. Maria says, “St..op Stop!” She puts her hand up and seems to have slapped him away. Maria is surprised by what she did as Shintaro complains that it hurts and she’s quite merciless but he anticipated that. Before he can finish what he is saying, Shin has already punched him which surprised the others – well, only Maria and Tomoyo are shown. Grabbing Shintaro’s collar, Shin angrily says that even if he [Shintaro] already knew, he still try to lay his hand on Maria. “Why don’t you disappear! Forever. Don’t come near her again!” Maria shouts at Shin not to use his hands used in playing the piano to hit Shintaro. Shintaro says that he is just joking since he isn’t seriously forcing Maria. “I just want to play a small practical joke.” Shin doesn’t believe him as he shouts that he’s lying. Shin is surprised when Maria says that Shintaro isn’t lying for he isn’t going to kiss because he didn’t use force. Maria says that she only pushed Shintaro away since Shintaro only wanted her to pay attention to him so he deliberately try to intimidate her. Shintaro didn’t answer. Shin asks if she is protecting Shintaro. Yuusuke breaks it up by telling Shin to let it pass if Maria said that’s what happened. “And also, you shouldn’t be that angry, right?” This surprises Shin. Pointing at Shintaro, Shin tells him that he, too, did something over the top. Shintaro timidly says that he just wants to honestly convey his feelings. Shin exclaims that Shintaro is a fool for trying to talk big shamelessly. Serious Yuusuke tells Shintaro that he understands him but everyone went there to have fun including Maria. Shintaro says that it seems he has also angered Yuusuke. “Did I ruin the mood that much?” Yuusuke just smiles and says that it isn’t so. But, Ayu shouts that is true and it is only because Yuusuke is so nice that he is embarrassed to say it bluntly. Shintaro sadly says, “Is that so...I understand. The one who dampened everyone’s spirits should disappear.” Shintaro starts to walk away. Yuusuke tries to call out to him but Shin tells him to let Shintaro be. Maria can only sadly watch Shintaro leave as Tomoyo tells her to help them barbecue.

Peeking from behind the shoe lockers, Maria tries to psyche herself that it is no big deal to just go over and greet Shin who is getting his school shoes from the lockers. She tells herself that she’ll just lightly taps his shoulder and greets him a good morning. Just when she is about to call him, Shintaro comes out from behind her greets her a good morning. Maria is surprised by this and Shin notices them. When Shintaro sees Shin, he asks Maria if she is going to greet Shin. Maria looks a bit angry but she didn’t reply. Shin quickly looks away and leaves. Shintaro asks if he just hindered Maria. Maria says that it’s good that he knows it. Shintaro becomes gloomy. Maria tells him not to be depressed over a small thing because she isn’t that cruel to him. Shintaro tries to go to her but Maria pushes his face away and says that she isn’t that close to him either so he should maintain his distance. Blushing, Shintaro says that she is quite confusing so what does she want him to do. Maria shouts that he is the one making her act that way. Shintaro happily says since he is making her confused, that means she starts to care/notice his existence. This made Maria leave him and later on, he is following her again. Maria thinks that Shintaro is the same before, who tries to get near her and if he has an opportunity, he will try to touch her. Shintaro then tells her that he thought she is wearing something beautiful but it turns out that her hair is just well-maintained. Touching Maria’s hair, he says that it is really beautiful. Maria pinches his hand hard and walks away. Going in her classroom, Maria thinks that she also has started to get used to it or rather, she started to get used to the idea of one’s physical distance to each other can also shorten one’s thoughts/hearts [with each other]. In the classroom, Maria touches Tomoyo’s flyaway hair and tells her about it. Maria helps her fix it using a wet handkerchief. Tomoyo thanks her and Maria blushes. Tomoyo then tells Maria that Maria’s hair is always smooth and shiny and her curled locks are always perfect. Ayu appears and says that is not worth mentioning if compared to her perfect hairstyle which took her 2 hours to fix everyday. Ayu then points at Maria and tells her that her hairstyle makes her look like a mushroom. Mushroom as in Maria’s head is the mushroom’s cap while her body is the stem. Tomoyo giggles. Ayu offers to fix Maria’s hair like hers. Maria refuses. Tomoyo starts to suggest about giving Maria a ponytail style. She holds Maria’s hair to form a ponytail. Ayu says that Maria will look like a kid that way. Soon, the two girls are suggesting and fussing about all sorts of new hairstyles for Maria. Maria just slightly blushes and thinks that lately, she wants to touch other and for others to touch her. “Even if I don’t want to admit it, this is the influence of Kurosu Shintaro.” Shin watches them nearby.
