Taxi to Yubiwa [One-shot story]

[Free talk: This is a one-shot story by Mase Azusa which is first published on Dessert’s March issue 2013. In English, that title is Taxi and the Ring. This is part of a collection of short stories by the mangaka, Chikyuu Umare no Anata e. ]

At the office, a young man looks his left hand and says, “Ah, I lost the ring.” His older colleague asks if he wants him to help him find it. “Won’t your wife get angry?” Putting his coat on, the young man says that it doesn’t matter. Taking a decorated flower pot of orchids, he says that he’ll bring this home as a gift to pacify his wife. And, later on, he hails down a taxi. Narration: “On the third year of marriage with my wife, we have a constant ‘always quarrelling’ life.” Sitting in the taxi cab, the young man tells the driver to go to Yuutenji. The driver says okay. Narration: “It has been as long as a half a year that treating my wife’s infertility has become unbearable. *Flashback: Wife shouted at him that the treatment is really very painful! “Why don’t you come home early to accompany me!?” He shouted back, “I have work!” Wife cried, “I know. It is this body’s fault. I’m working hard at it but I only want you to accompany me, that’s all..” End flashback. The young man thinks that he knows that, save him for it’s quite annoying. He bites his lip and thinks that it’s so annoying to death. The driver casually asks him if he is going to give that flowers as a gift.

[Free Talk: This is a one-shot story by Matsumoto Natsumi, probably serialized in Ribon magazine. The story is about Maria, descendant of witches, who encounters Hiiro, a vampire who wants to free himself from an accursed ring. As usual, names are guesswork from the kanji. Chinese scans are available here. ]

A grandmother tells her granddaughter, “A long time ago, at the Moon Valley, there is a witch who used magic to punish a wicked vampire. We are that witch’s descendants. Even until now, the vampire, who wants to attain his freedom, hovers around on nights where there is a red moon.. I will give you this amulet ring which you can wear on you at any time.” There is a scene of a girl running at a forest-type area. She exclaims no, don’t come near. “Save me..” Then, a shadowed figure bares its fang. A loud scream could be heard. The next scene is at a house. There are some overcast clouds so it is going to rain soon. On the news in the television, it is reported about a girl who was attacked. There are bite marks on the neck. Everyone thinks that it is related to some wild beast that has been attacking lately. Narration: I’m Tzumozuki [望月;full moon] Maria, a self-proclaimed witch descendant.” Pointing to the television which is surrounded by book shelves, Maria exclaims that it is the work of a vampire. While taking the dishes away, her mother says that until now, she is still saying those vampire stuff. Pointing to a book, Maria insists that it is the same as what is written on the book. She tells them how they could say that it is some wild beast, when it is a vampire so they should wear crosses. To Maria’s surprise, Alice, her younger sister, sighs and tells her how can such a thing exists. Alice tells her sister to quit doing those things for their house is already called ‘Witch’s house’. Maria retorts back by shouting for Alice to quickly finish eating and go to school. Narration: “My house has a lot of books that we’ve inherited. The story that grandma told me is continuously being passed on. Even if I also think that this is something that can’t be believed but I’m absolutely not mistaken. A vampire has resurrected in this town!!”

The two look at each other in shock as Ai realizes that Izumi is a teacher. She wonders if this is all a dream. Then, a couple of female students come in and call Izumi, sensei..and there is something they want to ask him. This made it sink in to Ai that he is indeed a teacher. Then, one of the students sees Ai. She quickly pulls Izumi a bit and tells him about Ai’s past about going steady with a teacher. Ai can only look flustered for now, Izumi knows. At the bus stop, the two gloomily say that he/she is unexpectedly a teacher/student. Izumi says that it is because he didn’t thought that a student will be out during work days. Ai says that not long ago, she noticed that he is older than her. Izumi asks if what was mentioned in the morning is true. Ai confesses that it is true. She went steady with her former teacher at the end of the closing ceremony of the first year. They would send text[/sms] and call each other on the phone, and at times, secretly hold each other’s hands. That is their relationship but for the people around, it is unacceptable and then soon rumors start to recklessly spread around, until, Saitou-sensei told her that they are breaking up and then, he disappeared. She smiles and says, so.. but stops upon looking at Izumi. She wonders if she should say that they can no longer be together but..together with him, she thought that they can continue on being like that..and if they are to part, she is afraid and it is very painful. She couldn’t say that they break up. To her surprise, Izumi smiles at her and says that they are going.

Narration: “From that day on, I thought that my heart had stopped beating.” 2-4 Ooba Ai [櫻庭系] got a letter from school wherein she will be suspended for a month from school, as punishment. In her room, Ai gets a call from her friend, Mayumi [真由子] who invites her out. Ai wants to refuse but her friend tells her not to always refuse or else, she will have fewer friends. Mayumi asks her if she is planning to always stay at home. Mayumi tells her that she isn’t forcing her to go to school but don’t refuse their invitation. Ai agrees with her and accepts the invitation. She thinks that she also knows that even if she is always depressed, nothing will also change. She goes out the next day and passes by some women neighbors. They start talking to each other that it is the rarely seen Ooba girl and, did she know about the rumor about that girl. And, maybe she is going to work because she is wearing casual clothes. Ai casually walks by and thinks that she isn’t in uniform because today is the school’s foundation day. Soon, she is waiting at the bus stop. It is freezing cold and she hopes bus number 16 arrives soon. Then, a guy passes by, shouting for the bus to wait for he is going to ride on it. Ai suddenly screams that it hurts. Her long hair got entangled on the zipper of the guy’s bag. The bus driver calls out to the guy to be quick. While the guy tries to remove the hair, Ai tells him to let go of his hand else it will be dangerous. She takes a pair of scissors. The guy tries to tell her to wait but she already cut off the entangled hair. While letting the stands of hair fly, Ai apologizes for it. The people in the bus wonder if it is alright for her to just cut her hair like that. As Ai walks away, the guy looks at her.

The Mermaid Witch [One-Shot Chapter]

[This is from Cheese! by Sakurada Hina. The title in Japanese is 魔女になった人魚 which means the mermaid that has become a witch, according to babelfish. I like this person’s art and I think this tragic story is pretty good. It is, of course, somewhat based on the Little Mermaid.]

Girls throughout the world would always cry and grieve over the mermaid princess but there is another part of the story that people don’t know about and it is something that cannot be just casually be told. Once a upon a time, there is a mermaid who had fallen in love with a prince. They always meet at night until morning to confirm their love for each other.

Real Kiss ~Lovers in Festival~ [One-shot Chapter]

[This is a crossover of the author’s short series Real Kiss and Bokutachi wa Shitte Shimata. Haruna, the female lead of Real Kiss is the female sempai at the fast food chain.]

“I’m really frustrated but I like him.” Haruna looks at Mitsuki, her boyfriend while the class president is talking about doing a cosplay for their cultural festival. At the hallway, Haruna’s friends are talking about being interested in the guys’ cosplay and what Mitsuki would wear. They were surprise when Haruna starts laughing gloomily and mutters that she eagerly anticipates it since she wants to see that arrogant guy being ordered around as a waiter. To her shock, her friend reminds her that she won’t be able to participate in their activities at the cafe because she is an executive council member [somewhat like an overseer, I think] during the cultural festival. Her friends think that something happened between Haruna and Mitsuki that is why Haruna is acting strange like that. It turns out that two days ago, they almost had H/sex = before they can totally remove their clothes, Haruna exclaimed to stop [since she couldn’t take the lewdness and the embarrassment]. She sits on the bench and wonders when she became ‘pure’ and there is no progress with her relationship with Mitsuki. Flustered Haruna says out loud about Mitsuki always making her blush/embarrassed because he cannot stop releasing his pheromones. Haruna blushes when Mitsuki blows in her ear and bites her ear. He asks if she meant ‘that’ – making her embarrassed. Haruna reprimands him for doing that in public. To her shock and embarrassment, Mitsuki says that she obviously doesn’t hate it. He asks if she is not going to work today, they can eat together. Haruna is irritated that Mitsuki is right that she didn’t hate it and so what if she liked it. Mitsuki stutters that she’ll think about it. She notices that he is looking at her lips. Mitsuki says that her lip gloss’s color is different today. Haruna blushes and says that he is right and asks him to guess what flavor it is. Mitsuki kisses her – French kiss, I assume and says that it is melon. Haruna says he is right. Mitsuki asks didn’t she hate doing this in public. Haruna shouts for him to shut up. It turns out that lately, Haruna has been wearing different lip gloss so that he’ll kiss her since she couldn’t take the initiative to tell him to kiss her. Mitsuki mutters that she’s not truthful. She didn’t hear it so when she asked what he said, Mitsuki just says that they should go. She asks where. She blushes really red and goes into shock when he says, to the motel. He then smiles and says that he is just kidding.
