While practicing with his makeshift koto,
Michi recalls what Natsu said. “—but, you still don’t play well. Whether or not
you do your best, you always don’t play well. *listening to Satowa’s recorded
music* If you are aware that you are dragging everyone down, then do not let
emotions affect your decision again. Isn’t it good to simplify the musical
score?”
In the club room, flustered Sane looks at
his cellphone. Kouta asks if Michi still hasn’t answered. Sane says that it
would be better to say that he isn’t even looking at it. “Darn. Is that guy
okay...” [<- internet chatroom wherein one can see if the message is read or
not.] Takezou and others looks worried.
Takezou recalls Michi apologizing for
dragging everyone behind. Takezou thinks that it is his fault because he
totally wasn’t able to help Michi. “Obviously, I have seriously considered
Sakai’s situation and formulated a way of practice, what else should I do to
help him [where am I lacking]...”
Satowa recalls Natsu asking what can verbal
encouragement change. She also recalls telling Michi to use the recorded music
if he doesn’t mind. “That is totally not enough.
...In the end, didn’t I also say, ‘and
afterwards, you go and do your best’? Compared to everyone else, I obviously
spent a longer time in playing the koto. Obviously, I should still have some
other way of helping him.”
Her thoughts are interrupted when Chika
played a note. This surprised everyone. Kouta then tells Sane that in short, it
is useless to be anxious like this. “We’ll just go and properly talk with Michi
during lunch break.” Sane agrees. Atsumu looks teared up as he watches everyone
glumly prepare their koto.
In the classroom, Natsu notices Atsumu
standing in front of his desk. Atsumu tells him that Michi didn’t answer back
their messages. Natsu asks what’s the use of telling that to him. “Do you want
me to apologize for saying those things yesterday?” On the verge of tears,
Atsumu says to have such an indifferent face.
Natsu asks, indifferent face? Atsumu says
that Natsu obviously doesn’t properly go to the club and even if it is like
that, he can still play well but... “Michi-senpai is really serious. You didn’t
properly see through that... So, Momoya-kun can calmly say that kind of words!”
With that, Atsumu goes to sit on his seat.
After a pause, Natsu mutters, “Who didn’t properly see it. *Atsumu looks up and
says huh* It’s nothing.” Atsumu looks surprised.
During lunch break, Sane and others
immediately went to section 2-A. They didn’t find Michi around and assumes that
he went to the toilet. Tetsuki asks if his bag is still there. Kouta says that
it isn’t. Worried Sane asks Michi’s classmate if Michi [<-they use the
surname] came to school today.
Classmate A doesn’t know who Michi is.
Classmate B doesn’t know either and do they have someone like that. This
surprises Sane and Kouta. Classmate A calls out to classmate C and asks if he
knows a certain Michi. Classmate C says, “Ah isn’t that the pink haired fatty
loner!” Sane and others are stunned by that description.
At home, Michi has broken a string on his
make-shift koto. He says that it broke again and he also used this for a long
time already. “Where did I put the koto string... *looks at the clock and it is
3:40pm* ...it’s... almost time for club practice...
He he, this is the first time I had skipped
school during high school. But, I’m not Chika. I simply used class time for
practice. *opens drawer* Taking advantage of class time, I should have
sufficient practice. Afterwards, it will be perfect as I only have to go and
practice on the real koto.
...Like this, the musical score will be
kept at its current form. And together... with everyone.” Soon, it is raining.
He thinks that this is bad, he has to buy some stuff first before fetching
Hana.
Taking the umbrella and going out, Michi
tells himself not to think too much again. “I cannot be depressed. I can still
do my best. I still can [do it].” After going out of the store, Michi notices
some schoolmates. He lowers his head as he passes by them.
He thinks that’s right, students who don’t
have club activities are currently going home from school. “This is no good...
[<- Someone might tell the school that he skipped class = not sick] ...but,
even if I bump into a classmate, there won’t be anyone who’ll pay attention to
someone like me. In school, the only place where I fit in is---” There is an
image of the koto club members.
Then, he notices a male student in Tokize
uniform approaching him. He thinks, it is another... He looks surprised since
it is Natsu who is also surprised to see him.
Michi wonders why of all people at this
time... Michi asks if he is going to work. Natsu says yes and he is absent
today, right? This embarrassed Michi. While looking down, Michi says that
household work at home has piled up.
“I’m sorry about yesterday!! I always felt
that I caused the mood to become very stiff! It is like what you said, Momoya.
I always make the same mistake. But, today I properly practiced for a long time
at home. It ought to be a bit decent! *looks at Natsu and gives him a thumbs
up* So, I wonder if next time should I take advantage of class time again or
not...”
Michi’s expression froze when Natsu asks if
he is that unwilling to simplify the musical score. Michi asks how come he is
still saying that, do not-- Natsu asks if for him, this is such an embarrassing
thing.
Michi bites his lip and wonders why this
guy... Michi says that it isn’t some embarrassing thing. “And even if it isn’t...
*trembling while on the verge of tears* I definitely am not willing to do
that...
Everyone are giving their utmost effort and
I’ll be the only one who’ll effortlessly play a simple one. I definitely would
be super unhappy about it.”
Natsu says that considering Michi’s
situation, he thinks that it is inevitable and-- Michi interrupts by shouting
that if it is inevitable then don’t mind him!!!
After a pause, Michi says of course, Natsu
doesn’t know. “We had really put in our utmost effort to get this opportunity
to be in the Nationals. We’ve experienced all sorts of things and also
frustrating things. We gone through things wherein we cannot hope to win and even,
some other kind of type of things.
...Even if it is like that, everyday, as a
group, we practice like idiots from morning to night. Always, everyone
together. *lots of flashbacks* Always really, really put in one’s utmost best.
Sniff-- *crying* For us to come here today,
and I’ll be the only one who isn’t doing one’s utmost best, that is something
that I definitely am not willing to do... Can’t I let my emotions affect my
decisions...”
“This is the first time I’m seriously doing
my best. This is indeed the time when I wanted to do my best the most. How
come... How come you who can join the Nationals when you have just entered the
club and can still play well even if you don’t participate in the club, say those
words, that it is okay to just simplify the musical score? Why would you say
those words!!!”
With that, he runs off. Natsu’s expression
isn’t shown. Narration: “---really awful. Really awful. Recklessly getting
angry at a kouhai who is telling the truth. Crying and screaming like a kid. *recalls
Natsu asking why he doesn’t want to simply the musical score* –but, I’m really
frustrated.”
Michi arrives home to see his younger
brothers quarreling over whose fault it is. Michi glumly says that they’re back
and what are they quarreling about now. The two nervously says this...
Michi sees that they have destroyed his
make-shift koto. As he quietly holds it, Momo exclaims that Aki pushed him. Aki
shouts that Momo did it first. They are nervous since Michi isn’t reacting.
Narration: “...ah ah, it always feels...” His cellphone rings. “Hello.”
The other party says, “Ah, Sakai-kun, I
finally reached you! It is like this. Just now, Hana-chan vomited and it seems
that she has a fever. Can you fetch her earlier? Your mother isn’t around now,
right? Just to be sure, it is best to go to the hospital to have her checked-”
Michi says okay, okay.
After hanging up. Michi slouches and covers
his face on his arms. His younger brothers timidly ask, brother...? Narration: “Why.
Why. Why. Why. What’s up with this. Terrible. No good. I’m no good anymore. Who’ll
come. Will someone come...” Ding dong. Ding Dong. Michi says coming, and he opens
the door. He is surprised to see Tetsuki who says, “Yo.”
Comment: A depressing chapter but there’s hope at the end ^^ It is
emphasized how much of a loner Michi is without the others. He is practically
non-existent to his classmates. Perhaps, if it weren’t for this incident, his
friends wouldn’t have realized it.
Takezou and Satowa are going on some guilt trip
for not helping enough. I think most of them have that in varying degrees but
they have already done what they can do. Chika probably knows this and just
focuses on practicing. In a way, by playing at that time, he pretty much told
them what they can/should do for now.
I start to wonder if Atsumu and Michi’s ‘jealousy’
of what Natsu can do and berating him for being so indifferent will start to
somehow affect him. In a way, he is indeed pointing things out realistically
but the others do not want to accept and face it. The truth is quite brutal. I
won’t be surprised if quitting the club or something has crossed his mind
again.
Somehow, in the end, Natsu will probably
learn what’s special with this group by how they will help Michi. They do have
this ‘no one will be left out’ stance. Even if it is idealistic and everything,
they were able to make some seemingly impossible things possible.
Hm...thinking of it, for Michi, part of it
seems to be not wanting to be left out. Everyone are doing their best and he
isn’t. He is kind of ‘left out’ and that is probably a feeling that he doesn’t
want to experience with this group. He wants to be ‘in’ with the group will all
their experiences.
So, when everything is falling apart, help has finally
arrived. Perhaps, just like what I’m thinking before, Tetsuki will help with
some of the chores to lighten Michi’s load so that he can have more practice
time. And for the younger brothers to see Michi like that, perhaps, they’ll
behave more. Scans

ReplyDeletei still don't think what natsu said is wrong but michi was in a bad place emotionally and that is the last thing he wanted to hear specially that every thing is currently mesed up in his life. i'm glad they went to michi's class i think since day 1 of this year when they tarted going to different classes he has been hiding how he doesn't get along with his classmate (which i sympithise wih because i too don't make friends fast). i think the rain and the broken string were the last straw to be honest i think he currently carries more than he can handle home wise alone and although it is not "cool" that he broke down infornto natsu but i still think that is better than keeping things to himself, but unintentionally i think both atsumu and michi hurt natsu feeling (even if natsu pretends he has no feelings or atachment) indeed i too think he will start thinking about quitting theclub again but i do hope when michi is in a better place he do talk to him once again, i too think that there are people out there who do things easier than the rest of us and for those whom only merit in life is hard work it could be quite frustrating but comparing with other people will no lead us anywhere positive (obviosuly as hig schooler i'm not epecting a lot of emotional maturity) so hopefully they can smooth things with natsu , takaoka if i recall michi's mom is in his family's hospital i do hope things get better soon
thanks

Thanks for reading, emmahoshi ^-^
DeleteTrue. Perhaps, it was too blunt/straightforward? In another series, it was mentioned that Japanese aren't used to that.
Yup. And, I think Hana getting sick is also a last straw. Like, how can he practice when he has to take care of sick Hana.
Yup. And, it doesn't help that they are in a 'deadline' and are against really talented ones. Hence, there is great pressure which can somehow lead to that...feeling frustrated and jealous.
Yup.
Michi and Natsu's conflict feels like a reprise of Kudo and Takinami's argument when Kudo sprained his hand right before the festival competition. If you recall, Takinami felt the group wouldn't need Kudo in his injured state, while Kudo vehemently wanted to play with his friends at any cost necessary. In the end, the result was a wash: their performance wasn't consistent enough to win anything, but the group finally gained the respect of Takinami, who in turn became essential to their victory at prelims. Now, will Michi compromise and play the easier part for the good of the group at the cost of his pride & feeling like an inferior member or will another solution magically pop out of thin air with Tetsuki's appearance? Whatever the case, it does feel like once Michi's situation is resolved, we'll be right back into the thick of it with Natsu, his past, and his future development.
ReplyDeleteYes, Kyrukk, it is indeed similar to that situation.
DeleteAside from what you mentioned, I think the judges will immediately notice that Michi is playing an easier part. Won't that cause them to lose points? For now, I'm thinking that the mangaka will go with 'magical solution' because there won't be 'excitement' [/chance of winning] if we are giving them a handicap when they are up against genius-level performers.
Yup, most likely.
I just want to put in my two cents... Atsumu may be speaking the truth but he's insensitive (admittedly, that's his character). I think the reason why Michi is being stubborn about sticking with the original composition is because the part was written specifically for him and the Takinami sensei believes that he can do it... Yes, it may not be practical right now due to the domestic situation but this just shows that Michi wants to rise to the challenge and meet expectations... He does not want a shortcut. To simplify the score will be to ruin a masterpiece... I agree that this may be selfish because he's inconveniencing his friends but that's his resolve... No offense to those who have different thoughts on this...
ReplyDeleteAtsumu? Or do you mean Natsu?
DeleteTrue, that's one reason, too. In a way, it is a huge risk especially if he couldn't pull it off.
Tetsuki the savior again, but i bet it was Chika who asked him to help Michi
ReplyDeleteHm...possible.
DeleteWoohoo, it's here! Bit of stopgap chapter but hopefully with Tet-chans arrival we'll be able to reach some kind of turning point in this arc. Can't wait to see it now ;)
ReplyDeleteYup, Krimzon ^-^
DeleteYay! Thank you for this summary! I feel bad for Michi! I understand what he is going though. You have to do what you can being the oldest of the family and having to pick up when you are needed. It is tough for him. He does not want to be simple part. Everyone else is going to have a harder part while he is playing a simpler part. Natsu is not wrong, but it was at the wrong timing. He is thinking of the best solution so it would be easier for Michi to stay. However, the truth hurts especially when it is not what you want to hear. Michi lashing out on Natsu is not cool, but I feel Michi will apologize when it is all over. That is what these senpais are good at lol. I actually really like Natsu and hopes he gets the love he deserves. I hope the rest sees him for who he is. I wonder who would be that shining light for Natsu in a way or what will make him more in line with the group.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Michi being a loner in class did not surprised me. It was kind of foreshadow when he was the only one by himself in a different class. Poor Michi. Tetsu to the rescue!
Thanks for reading, fish.cake ^-^
DeleteTrue. Yup, I think Michi will apologize.
Maybe later on though I wonder how it will be since Natsu is also a bit of a loner/keeps to himself.
Yup ^^
Quite depressing indeed, fits my mood so perfectly I have no words. Thanks for the chapter Kat, and sorry for the very late reply. A lot of things happened and to top it all off, my pc too went mad, lol.
ReplyDeleteMichi's suffering is real, uh? Though it's most psychological/egocentric - in the sense that he refuses to get an easier part for not wanting to feel left out. Good excuse, imo, I like it, specially how his everyday school life was showcased in this chapter. Nice touch of the author, quite sensible but emotional intense chapter, I'm really liking this arc - for now at least, lol.
Natsu might also change a bit too, so all things considered, even if he's kinda of a prick right now, I'm still enjoying his antagonism.
Will keep it short today Kat, haven't been feeling well these days, but thanks for your work, really appreciate it. God bless you ^^
You're back, Fê 😭 I'm getting worried about you though I recall there was a bit of trouble regarding your license.
DeleteThanks for reading ^-^
Yup ^^
It's okay. Take care and hope you'll feel better soon. God bless, too~~
Haha, sorry I worried you. Yea, there was and now there is again. They released the results three days after expired, fortunately it was approved. Then I had to hurry and get another appointment and now I'm waiting once more, feeling like it'll be another replay of what just happened.
Delete-
Yea, nice chapter, like I said, mooding and all, but really nice chapter, imo. It helps that I kinda feel overwhelmed too - like our Michi - I guess, but the gentle touch with the emotional intensity makes it really, really good. I don't think there was a chapter like this one before;
-
Thank you, it's nothing big, really. Just old man thing - though I'm not that old to have'em, lol. Take care, Kat, thanks for everything. God bless^^
Oh...well, good luck and don't stress yourself. Hopefully, you'll get it again...easier this time...
Delete- - -
I see ^^

Same to you ^^
For the way things going and looking, I don't think it'll be any easier, lol.

I just finished the last anime Shingeki season and if it didn't change anything, it sure did at least shine some lights on them. Like, remember the flatter earth plan? It's a bluff since any royal titan - the only ones that can control titans - renounced any kind of violence, so the'd be forced to w/e since they can't fight. With the founder power, only Eren can do that, but as long as he's in some sort of contact with a royal blood themselves, titan or not - that's what happened when Eren kissed Krista's hand at that ceremony when they came back, and that's also what happened when she had contact with Ymir's letter and saw bits of her life before, during and after being transformed;
Also, Bertholt can't actually create nukes/explosions, he was "simply" throwing debris that caught fire when he transformed. That made much more sense then what we saw in the manga;
So, only royals can control to some point a few titans - like Zeke does - the founder can control all of them, but can't fight and Eren -the Attack Titan, Shingeki no Kyojin, lol - can control and fight as long he has some contact with any royal.
That also shines some light in what Eren might have in mind now in the manga;
Haha, is that so. Same as before? Not harder, I hope.

Oh, they animated it up to that part already?
I see. Hehe...in a way, it is better to watch the anime? ^^
Hopefully not harder, else my heart can't take it, lol.
Delete-
They animated 'till they first arrive at the ocean/Erwin's death/Grisha's memories/basement; but they did tease already the next season that apparently will take up Marley as a whole up until Sasha's death, my guess because it's a good/cruel cliffhanger;
I don't know, some things were changed and the author doesn't seem to mind, I mean, when that thing happened to Annie that became a meme and all, he supported and said that he should've done that himself - I don't know if he actually believes it or since it the anime was a huge success that made him one of the richest mangakas out there and he wouldn't criticize for it; like I said, with these changes this last season, things actually made sense to what happened there and to what's happening now and/or might happen in the near future, so he might have something to do since those were confusing as hell in the manga and I"m pretty sure people made a lot of noise and he decided to change in the anime to explain better? I watch because it's actually a good adaptation of a good manga, but if you understood the manga, I don't know if it's worth it, unless you want cute Mikasa and easier on the eyes art/drawing style;
😊

Oh. Next season is...within this year or next year?
Ah, possible. There are manga that are made better in the anime...especially with a big budget and excellent company working on it. ^^
About that meme...Annie in the crystal?
For shounen with action, I think being animated always make it better. ^-^
I don't know, tbh, I didn't even know there'd be one this year, lol. Bur really, we had a lot of good series adapted, though I still haven't watched'em to say if they were good, the manga sure are, like KoT, Kaguya-Sama, Tate no Yuusha, Kimetsu and more that don't even come to mind right now, that's not to say it ends here, since there's mention of more good series coming back/being announced to this year yet; good days to be an anime fan.
DeleteYea, and SnK is one of them, for sure, no doubt about it, lol.
No, no. This meme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RlXeAb0TgIM
Yea, though people complained a lot about OPM second season animation, I myself had my share of fun without any problem, but maybe I'm just old and can't see the flaws anymore? lol
Haha, I see.
DeleteYup.
Lol, that's amusing. And even more amusing that was actually the lyrics of that song...I couldn't quite understand it except for smooth criminal 😅
Hehe, is that so. ^^
Yea, the meme was a real thing when that happened, the music is from Michael Jackson's hit, Smooth Criminal - that's why it became a meme, Annie just happened to have the same name, and then act like a crazy woman after "being hit/caught" so it was like a made up joke for the beginning, lol.
DeleteSpeaking of it, did you read the last chapter? I know I shouldn't, but I laughed way too hard.
Haha, I see.
DeleteAh, just read it last night. Let me guess, it is because the cockroach wanted to be stepped on but got sprayed instead and he's immune from that insecticide? :P
I am pretty sure I made a comment and I had a reply but I can't find it.
ReplyDeleteDo you mean this one?
