summary. Yup, these college guys are indeed acting like high schoolers. Are the
noisy ones first years? It seems that we have two people here who are in
unrequited love so the theme is how they are going to deal with this situation?
Fuuka has a higher chance of something
happening since Suwa is single but then, ah, her ‘enemy’ would be Suwa’s mommy
issues rather than other girls. It is a good attitude that she is making
herself useful even if she didn’t take the job with pure motives.
Ah, even if Suwa can interact with her
normally again, that small talk is enough to power her up again. =P I guess
because all the other guys are ‘inferior’, Fuuka will always be hooked with
Suwa especially since she is turning down those who are interested in her.

Regarding Shizuka, I guess contrary to
making it how Shou is going to deal with a basketball member who had a crush on
his girlfriend. This is about someone who is in love with a girl who already
has a boyfriend. In a way, it is a basketball issue.
He tried to concentrate on basketball and
it is somewhat working until he unconsciously glances at her. Of course, it
totally fails when she shows her cute self to him. And yes, it really doesn’t
help if the girl is clueless of what a guy who likes her might unconsciously
think/get turned on by things she does/wear/say.
For him to blurt out that he isn’t
interested in girls might be potential repetitive jokes later on <- everyone
thinks he’s gay. Now that I think of it, perhaps, he is the focus in order to
level up his game/surpass this problem since Shou had already surpassed his
problem regarding ‘not being good enough’.
It is interesting though how Yuki and
Shizuka think of each other quite idealistically. For him, he thinks that she would
only focus on training etc and no lovey-dovey during camp. Whereas she thinks
that he is only serious about basketball and won’t think of romance stuff like
Shou does.

Of course, Shou is right in the end since
he knew these two better than they know themselves. He knows Yuki will continue
on making clueless actions/talk which will continue to turn Shizuka on. And,
even if he tried to focus on basketball, Shizuka’s stance will break apart by
Yuki’s undeliberate actions/words.
So, how do you exactly solve that kind of
problem? That is what I want the mangaka to address in this arc. Unless of
course, the mangaka want to continue it for comedy, love triangle or perhaps,
show Shizuka’s gradual maturity? I mean, it is only now he realized that she’s
a girl. So, is the mangaka hinting it was just a mere crush/admiration?
Anyway, let’s just wait and see if this
kind of situation will be dealt with in this arc or it will continue on and
on...until the end or Shizuka finds someone else/moves on, as well as Yuki minimizes
‘acting clueless’ and turn her admirer on.
Shizuka was almost comical in this chapter. After he killed the spider for Yuki, he suddenly realized that she was a woman and ran away. Clearly the boy has woman issues just like Suwa. He may say he loves Yuki but when faced with a real woman he runs away. As for Yuki she remembered what Naruse said about Shizuka 's love for her. At the time of the incident she was trying to kill a spider and did not notice that she was in her pajamas with no slippers. Despite what Shizuka said about loving her even though she rejected him she still needs to formally reject him just like she did to Suwa.Many have objected to the males surrounding Yuki but it has not affected the love between Yuki and Naruse. They keep getting closer every time anything happens. He is already staying over after sex. Soon he will either move in or they will get a larger apartment together.

In a way, it is like a level up from just admiration. Running away = embarrassed by his nose bleed and his realization. Well, he was on his way from running away before he couldn't control himself.

I think that will happen when they graduate college and have jobs. One, perhaps due to Yuki's 'principles', she won't let him especially since that place is being paid for my her parents. Two, they don't have money yet to buy a larger place.

Did she reject him? I don't recall it. During the confession, iirc, he said that he knows she has a bf and something like, it is okay...he won't go after her. So, perhaps, a formal rejection is needed? But then, it isn't like Shizuka is actively trying to steal Yuki away from Shou.
So, I get the impression the mangaka also wanted to show on how to deal with this kind of situation especially if the other party is clueless like that, and is being quite nice to you that you keep on falling in love with that person.
I think it is kind of a psychological thing = no regrets later on. Say, when you'll older, you'll think what if I confessed. And also, a closure like this person had formally rejected me so I can move on now. In a way, no longer have hope that perhaps, s/he still have a chance.
Yup. Yuki being Yuki.
Haha...it is a manga thing to show 'being turned on/hot'. I'm not sure in Japanese but in Chinese medicine, it is believed that nosebleed is caused by 'hot'/yang of ying yang. Anyway, I think it is common in comedy and this series is a romance-comedy. Perhaps, better not to take it too seriously?
Ah, I actually thought it is bad that he realized that she is a woman and his admiration is actually 'love' and not just 'admiration'. ^^;;

ReplyDeleteIn this case, I'm not sure how can he 'realize his place more'. She's wearing cute pajamas out of the room. She needs help with a spider. She trips so he catches her...or should he back off and let her fall on the floor?
In a way, thinking about it, I think Shizuka needs someone to help keep his mind off her. I mean, if someone is talking with him in the cafeteria, perhaps, his eyes won't wander off. He is only depending on sheer willpower to 'back off'. Unlike the others, they have a lover/friend to help them...ah I'm not too sure about Suwa though...if his friendship with others are casual. For Shizuka, it seems his relationship with others are casual. His captain is the only one who knew and was his support then.
Haha...really. I think the blush thing is the only way we can know that a character is moved by the other character. Hm...is the blush thing because it makes a guy look girlie?
Something like, oh...she's a woman, no wonder I'm acting uncontrollable like this. It is love. =P Usually, I think admiration would tend to limit on 'looking from afar' like fans to their idol. Haha, but then, ya, there are those who would grab and kiss. =P
Ah, isn't it because their interaction isn't that much? Only during basketball matches and occasion meetings outside. It will take time to know about her real character as does she about him.
Sorry...that should be deleted. ^^; I'm actually referring to nosebleeds = comedies. As a whole actually. There are some scenes that I feel are suppose to be funny like that last part with Shizuka...nosebleeding, blushing, running away and Yuki being clueless.
Perhaps, that is one reason why I'm not that agitated with the 'love triangle'...those quarrels between Shizuka and Shou are suppose to be funny, I think. ^^;

I understood it different. He told her again to remind her not to get too close since he still likes her. Before he said that, he told her do not be like that. Yuki seems surprised that he still likes her.

Yes, but we're talking about understanding/knowing each other more, right? If they interact more, they won't have that 'idealistic' notion about each other. As in, they're both totally devoted with basketball and there were no instances that they weren't or love/emotions > basketball.
As for Yuki reading through that nosebleed, blush or whatever Shizuka or other guys do including hug...she won't think of it as romance/flirting, etc unless it was mentioned to her. And, thinking about it...isn't that like some sort of running joke already?
By the way, you already saw 86, right? Does the training arc end there?

I'm not too keen on rivals just for the sake of 'punishing' the dense one or using it as a way to fix the problem. Hehe, things can quite drag on with a love polygon. There is also a possibility that the readers might really start hoping for the other girl to end up with Shou especially if she is deemed better than Yuki. Haha, unless that is the mangaka's intent.
But then, this had already happened before when he told her that Shizuka likes her, so perhaps, she does need to realize it when it has been done to her.

The problem with Yuki isn't that she doesn't take Narus seriously, but rather she think so highly of Hakamada that she doesn't believe that he could do stuff like that especially in a training camp. But in the end he turned out to be a barbaric who can't control himself.
DeleteI think if the author want to make it fare for Yuki, and doesn't make her look like a bad girlfriend, is to make Yuki reject Hakamada right away, just like Narus did with Ichi. That would be the most reasonable way forYuki to deal with this situation. But I don't see that happening unfortunately.
I think what will happen, since this situation is so cliche, is Yuki tilling herself that she is at fault, and Narus was right the whole time. She will try to hide it from Narus, cos that will make troubles between Narus and Hakamada, and she doesn't want that especially after they started working together. She will try to act normally in front of Narus, and deal with the barbaric animal herself. And looking at how Yuki is, she will fail to hide it. Narus will suspect something, and at the end will know ether from Hakamada strait up tilling him, or by digging it out from Yuki.
Honestly I'm curious about the way Narus will react to this.
But I really don't want Yuki to look bad girlfriend since NaruYuki is my favorite couple in manga.

I don't even wana talk about him, because I think he is the most hated charterer is the manga now. He even passed Sawa, which is a very hard thing to do.
I really hope that Narus ex appear now and be Yuki's rival, and teach her a lesson or two.
Seriously, I love Yuki, but these last two chapters she was like... ugh. I think Hakamada kissing her was her punishment for ignoring her boyfriend. Unless she's fine with it, and treat it as a "not romantic kiss from someone who has a romantic feeling for me" kinda kiss.

DeleteI read some spoilers for chapter 88 from Japanese. It was hard to understand, but this what I came up with.
ReplyDeleteYuki was upset about the kiss. It turned out that Hakamada wanted her to see him as a man, since she only saw him as a brother-friend? I guess. Yuki started to think that Narus was right -obviously-, and she should've been more cautious around Hakamada. she tried to tell Narus at first, but couldn't. Usami thought that there's something wrong with Yuki since she was acting weird. she started interrogating Yuki till she told her that Hakamada kissed her. Usami told Yuki to keep it a secret from Narus, bcuz they just made up after what happened with Suwa. But Yuki didn't hide it from Narus. Narus started asking her when, how, and how many times. then he kissed her to "overwrite" Hakamada's kiss. But he seemed quite angry. But I don't think he's angry only at Yuki. Maybe 10% Yuki and 90% Hakamada. LOL. I hope that Hakamada gets punished. But I don't think that will happen since this is a shoujo manga.
Honestly, I would be satisfied with a slap from Yuki.

Punished...it depends. I'm not sure with this author. In this other shoujo, it was attempted rape in some way and the main lead beat the other guy to a pulp where he stayed in the hospital for some time.
In other series, I think they got away with it or at most, 'slap on the wrist'.

I agree with you that the mangaka is trying to victimize Hakamada, but let's be real here. He's not the only one at fault here. In a way, yes. It happened before after his team won before in high school. He showed that dark side to Yuki. Thinking about it, it does give dimension to his character instead of the usual nice shy 'boy next door' type of character.

ReplyDeleteRegarding whether it is only Shizuka's fault or both, I think it is a huge debate. Ideally, Yuki isn't at fault since it is the guy who made the move without any deliberate provocation from her. Realistically, being alone with a guy whom one knows likes you isn't a good idea. Like in this example, she let her guard down since she thought he is a 'good guy'.
After reading the chapter...it seems that Yuki is really careless. ^^; She didn't even lock the door when she's dressing up. ^^;;
Anyway, I think that after this arc, there will be closure with this love triangle.
I see. I tend to view such as 'telling a story'. Though sometimes, it kind of 'reveals' the mangaka's mentality which as you mentioned, 'sending a message' whether it is conscious or not.

Yuki already said that her love for Narus wont change, but the mangake is still keeping Hakamada in the picture. Like saying that he has a chance with Yuki.
I just don't get why some mangakas keep getting a second guy, who doesn't have a chance with the girl, just to make drama. Just make Hakamda move already, and let the plot move on. I mean we are 89 chapters in and the "Ex-girlfriend" still not to be shown yet. I love this manga and I don't want it to end, but Just move on with the Hakamada drama already. We know that Yuki wont fall for him, unless the mangaka see otherwise.
Yuki and Narus were lovely in this chapter. I just like them so much. And Hakama is a piece of shit.

But it’s so annoying. If Hakamada had a chance with Yuki, it would be reasonable to have him as Naruse’s rival, but he doesn’t have any, since Yuki and Naruse’s relation is strong.

well, that is quite pointless here. Since Naruse and Yuki's relation is strong. He can't get between them. If the Mangaka makes Yuki sway a bit, I would be disappointed.
Well, I get the impression that it is for comedy since this mangaka got a lot of inspiration from Slam Dunk. That bickering between the two rivals both in basketball and love life is quite similar. Haha, of course, in SD, the other guy totally doesn't care about the girl who is gaga over him.
DeleteAnyway, the antics between the two leads are the same and in a way, it should be comedic. The problem here, I think, is Shizuka went beyond that with that stolen kiss among other things before so it isn't funny anymore.
I know but then, I think it is better than the usual third guy keep on 'aiming/hoping' for the girl until the end. I prefer the concept of 'moving on' since there are many fishes in the ocean rather than keeping on looking at the taken fish. Perhaps, end up with someone else...not the ex-gf? ^^
True. So, it kind of makes me think, has the mangaka ran out of ideas? There are actually some other things she can focus on but perhaps, it cannot be prolonged like this. Can't stimulate readers like this? Generally, in other shoujos, without a romantic issue, they tend to wrap things up quickly.
I can't believe Shizuka said that. Sure, Shou didn't know her fear of spiders but he knows way more about Yuki than Shizuka. Him finding out was just by accident. Other than that, Shizuka's knowledge of Yuki is limited like the other basketball players. Besides just because they're going out doesn't mean they know absolutely everything, people can know each other for years and still learn something new.

ReplyDeleteI just don't like Hakamada. He's not relatable at all. I have never sympathized with him because he's so scummy and low. He always tries to push his feeling on Yuki and didn't gave after she rejected him. He even said he wants her!! What does he mean? does he want to steel her? The girl didn't see him as a man... I mean move on with your life.
Ya...actually, it is confusing. He said that...just when you think he is a lost cause, he seemed to be 'relaxed and happy' that Yuki cleared things out to him. Was it a bait for a 'proper rejection'? Even Shou seems to be relieved by it.
DeleteIt can mean that or he is finally being honest with his feelings and telling her what he thinks which led to being rejected. I don't think he can steal her though and I'm thinking he also knows that.
But then, the ending scene seems to imply that the love triangle is not yet 'case closed'. What happens next will depends on the author.
Hakamada sexually assaulted a girl and didn't even regret it... Just call the police on him.

Why that Mangaka always don't want to let us relax!! She always do something or show that that thing is not end yet. I don't want some beautiful chapters then something will happen again, I don't want some beautiful chapters and back in my mind I'm scared and waiting something to happen, enough! I'm tired of that! She knows that that bother us but she keep going!! I find that so unprofessional from her now! If she want more chapters it's ok I also don't want that manga to end but what she's doing is not realistic or professional. I want to enjoy Shou and Yuki and in mind that guy B case is ended. I think after all that time that we waited and after all those bad things he did we deserve an end of that case already. Otherwise it would be unrealistic. I don't want any other drama in that issue. Also logically that won't be the reaction after what that guy did, definitely not. So unnormal.

Thinking of it, compared to other girls, Yuki isn't exactly reacting normal. I suddenly recalled her first meeting with Shou. My first thought would be, I ought to smack this guy. Shou also stole a first kiss and there's no violent reaction. There are others but I dismiss it all since that is suppose to be 'funny' and 'romantic'...and well, he is the male lead of a shoujo series. I guess it is 'okay' if the lead has romantic inclination towards the other party.
True...why keep bringing that up when we already know that they won't break up and will be together in the end? Perhaps, she cannot think of any other conflicts/story for the series?
Hehe, I see. For me, it seems that all this drama is taking a toll that at times, I don't feel anything anymore. ^^;

Well, it is either that or as you mentioned beach. Festival tend to be romantic because of fireworks, in yukata, it is night =P I think those two are the common scenarios for summer in manga. There is also vacation in the countryside.
I want to read that extra chapter, what's up with that problem? It is only Namaikizakari who is affecting?

This Manga is very good. but Yuki character is getting kind of annoying, I guess cause she's so prideful. I like her character but up to chapter 50 she's way to stern like a robot and tend to overthinking. The character development is too slow so that's why she became a little annoying imo.

DeleteSince ppl here say everything, I just have something to say, you know actually I miss the old Namaikizakari, I mean I miss when we were always getting sweet chapters. I miss when every chapter was ending by a kiss., when we were getting so much lovey dovey. when were Shou and Yuki having a fight it would solve in the next chapter. when it didn't focus that much on love triangle until it becomes cringe (like RightNow) , when it was focusing realistically and beautifully on Shou and Yuki relationship development. Here in the training camp we didn't see anything nor their love nor basketball.

In the first place that is a love story between two people then why make it too complicated like that! They still my favorite manga and couple ofc but I don't know if I'm wrong but I felt a little change in it, I think from chapter 76. I hope it will return to what it was.
Yup, Kath. There are indeed times when the mangaka leans towards that kind of love triangle and as you mentioned, she went full blast with it when they're in college. It does make me speculate, is it her way of prolonging the series? Way of dealing with writer's block?

But, I feel that whenever things become too heavy = a lot of readers are agitated, she pulls back and quickly resolves the problem. And somehow, make most of the characters 'not that bad after all' or 'redeem oneself' especially Yuki. <- depending on readers =P

Honestly I never expected that she would go and make yuki get kissed by another guy. Using that step is just so down. And it wasn't even necessary. To me it was like a wrong or a rushed decision from her.

Also doesn't he realizes that going that far will bother Yuki? Didn't he think of what situation he put her in by doing that to her! So all that make me think is that really love? or just a competition with Shou?
He is just being so selfish and so rude, I'm now more happy cause Yuki didn't choose him.
And actually as a character we didn't see any development in him. his character is being twisting in circle.

Yup. I think it should have ended after the first confession. She already knows how he feels for her. He is somewhat happy that he confessed but accepts that she is taken. Move on to other potential issues/obstacles...but she decided to pull this kind of scenario. Readers won't see Shizuka and Yuki the same way again.
Yup. For a romance, I don't think it is good if there are a lot of readers start to think that she doesn't deserve him. The same if it is vice-versa in other shoujo.
Ya. But I guess, perhaps, the mangaka is pulling some sort of 'bad boy' image for him? To make more 'different' than the 'boy next door' image he used to have. With his talk with his ex-captain, it seems that he wants to stop being the 'good guy'. Hence, that is how he is acting - no apologizes and keep on carrying on...doing whatever he wants.
Thinking of it, if that is the case, it would have been interesting. Perhaps, a better way of portraying it? Like, a 'good guy' who got tired of being just that since well, he never gotten that far. Don't have much friends, scared of girls, the girl he likes is taken, and didn't exactly got what he wanted in high school = Nationals.
Yup. That kiss seems instinct/emotionally driven so thinking takes a backseat. Perhaps, in some way, afterwards, it is something like 'I got nothing to lose' = no apology. 'Good guy' snapped after all the pent up emotions? What do you think?
On contrary, based on what I mentioned, there is some sort of development but it isn't exactly positive and for the better. Whereas, Suwa, it might be the opposite. 'Bad playboy' turns out to be 'good guy who had mother issues'. =P

I will tell you what I think, 'snapped after all the pent up emotions' on who? Yuki and Shou? Not himself! ..It's like he is punishing them for a mistake he committed himself. Venting his frustrating of himself on them. And that show that he still doesn't grow up yet, as a person. ..It's like when he realized that he was wrong SMH, 'giving a fake image of him/hiding his real desires' due to his weak personality -> (hiding our real selves in fear of people opinions and hate -complex) and wanted to correct it he ended up in a wrong way again.
He has no right to snap or be angry. Pent up his emotion isn't a given from him but a must-do.
But you see I can't understand what the Mangaka want to pull with that new antics, yuki has a boyfriend, then how come he can play chances on her? Or it was just 'Telling everything-thing'? Though even that is stealing-attempt.
You know I really hope that she will solve this in uncliché and interesting senario like she usually does. Like make him interesting in a girl then he can see how wide life is and grow up. Rather than keep pulling that senario, from the beginnings of the manga to now. Make no sense.
Oh that's life, don't you think? Usually the ones we think they're bad they would turn to be the nice ones. And vice versa.
Immpatient scane said they almost done with chapter 90 and were gonna release it around these past 3 days like usual recently but a problem pop up and they couldn't. So frustrating. :-
