Kimi ni Todoke [Chapter 94]

On the way to school, Chizuru lends Ayane a music CD to cheer her up. Then, Ayane says that perhaps current Chizuru’s misgivings towards Ryou are the misgivings that she brought about in Kent [/she caused Kent to feel]. Chizuru asks what she meant by that. Ayane says that she wishes that Chizuru would do her best for herself, or perhaps, she won’t be a hindrance-type because Ryu definitely doesn’t think that way. “You like him, right. I think that is definitely enough so Chizuru doesn’t have a ‘this is horrible’ kind of thinking. They were interrupted by Sawako. After some good mornings, Sawako says that she always thought that it is good that Ayane and Kent are going steady. She sighed in relief that Kent let her go since obviously Ayane has her own complicated feelings. She apologizes to Ayane. Ayane thanks her for worrying about her and apologizes for making her cry. She says that Sawako didn’t do anything wrong, it is her [Ayane] choice when she decided to go steady with Kent. Ayane admits that Kent did make her feel a lot relaxed. Ayane narrates that she always put the blame on others, always avoiding responsibility, feeling that her luck is bad and the fault lies with those whom she had gone steady before. She would cunningly want to leave everything, escape and only thinks of not getting herself hurt. End narration. Kent has also arrived in school. His fangirls are doing their usual chat but Kent snaps at them. Upon seeing that, Shouta looks surprised.
While Pin is checking the attendance, Ayane narrates that because as a person, she is a failure so guys who look at [/falls for] her are also not a good person. She cannot truly like those guys and it is impossible for them to truly like her. After class, Shouta calls out to Kent. Kent shouts that it is nothing and immediately left. Shouta mutters that he still hasn’t say anything. When Kent bumps into Ayane at the door, Kent quickly leaves. Ayane narrates that she thinks that these ‘she hurting others’ and ‘others hurting her’ are all annoying to death but Kent isn’t the same and he didn’t do anything wrong. In the empty classroom, Sawako and Chizuru are talking to Kent about the preparations for the school festival but Kent is ignoring them. Chizuru starts asking if Kent can see them. Then, she and Sawako are asking if it is like in Doraemon’s stone hat. [<- wear it and makes one feel like a stone] This made Kent say that he can see them. Chizuru is irritated over Kent’s lack of enthusiasm which Kent denies. Sawako even tries to cheer him up with some candy. This made Kent snap that he isn’t in the mood for that. Chizuru tells Kent not to vent his anger on Sawako. Kent start saying that they had heard about it from Ayane for they are her good friends, it’s alright, there’s no need to be apprehensive towards him. Chizuru grumbles that she isn’t apprehensive about him and it is just he doesn’t properly do his work. The girls clarify that Ayane didn’t voluntarily tell them about it, they were the ones who asked about it. Kent says, ya, perhaps, for Ayane, it is something not worthy enough to talking about to others.
While Sawako tries to call Kent’s attention, Kent kept on being sarcastic that their relationship with Ayane is good but not with him, and as they heard it, Ayane basically didn’t like him. Sawako becomes silent that Kent laugh it off by saying that he is expecting her to say, ‘it isn’t so’. Chizuru says who cares about him for it is something about the two of them so the two of them should resolve it. Kent continues to laugh it off that it is true.. Then he suddenly becomes serious. He says Ayane’s mind doesn’t have him whereas for him, she is always number one because he likes her. Chizuru says that Ayane isn’t the same so it is inevitable that she doesn’t think of him. Kent agrees and even right now, she probably doesn’t care about him and he’s the only one depressed. Kent’s smile freezes when Sawako calls him, ‘Miura-kun’ instead of ‘master/teacher’. Sawako tells him that it isn’t so for Ayane is also depressed. Puzzled Kent asks why when he should be the one who should be depressed. Sawako tells him that Ayane did a mean thing to master, that she said that she’s cunning and mean. Ayane blames herself. How can Ayane not care when she said that he is ‘good person’ and ‘had good memories with him’. Ayane also said that he made her feel a lot relaxed. Kent agrees when Sawako tells him that Ayane is a nice person. Kent says that it is fine to just let him be the only one who is frustrated [/at a loss]. He becomes flustered for he doesn’t have the heart to blame Ayane if she blames herself and said that he made her feel relaxed.
Kent admits that he had noticed it when they are walking together, she would always hold her bag tightly towards whichever side he is with her. She is a girl who wouldn’t notice it but probably, subconsciously, she is always guarding against. Sawako calls him, ‘master’ [again from here on] but Kent tells her that it is okay not to call him that and he didn’t expect her to be angry at him. Sawako becomes nervous and apologizes for not feeling like calling him ‘master’ at that time. Chizuru starts to comment about that is unexpected of Sawako and how timid and passive Sawako was before..then, she starts saying that it is the opposite for she’s very strong since she still greet people when she was marginalized [/pushed aside by others]. Chizuru says that she didn’t think that Sawako would have trust on Kent because look, she [Chizuru] isn’t interested in him. Surprised Kent agrees that Sawako is strong. Chizuru says that Ayane is also very amazing even if he always think of her as weak. Chizuru tells him that she likes Ayane for not admitting defeat [/perseverance] and strong point. Kent’s imposing manner [/momentum] is quite serious though she understands why he doesn’t want to separate. This made Kent mutter if it was the same as how he treated Sawako before, his view towards Ayane is prejudged, and did he become Ayane’s burden. This made Sawako tell him that she knows that he really likes Ayane and at that time, he was really worried about her [Sawako]. He isn’t a nobody to Ayane, and towards all sorts of things for each problem, she is definitely distressed at a certain extent.
Then, Kent says he is thinking why Ayane didn’t tell him about the college, why she won’t go with him to the same college, and how come she won’t like him. Ayane said that she’ll go steady with him when he asked her about it. He has already done his best to make her pay attention to him. He thought that it is okay if she doesn’t feel it immediately but from today on, there will be a day when she will. Even if she isn’t moved immediately, it was alright..he’ll always do his best to make her like him.. Meanwhile, Shouta and Ayane who were out buying some materials were caught in the rain. They took shelter and waited for the rain to stop. Ayane thanks him for telling Sawako and Chizuru. Shouta says that it isn’t him but rather, Pin. Ayane asks if Pin was angry. Shouta says that he was, and was quite impatient. He asks her if she was the one who made him angry. Ayane says yes. Shouta laughs that it is her. Ayane asks if he isn’t angry and didn’t he heard it from Sawako. She also asks if he doesn’t particularly hate someone like her. Shouta says no for she is Sawako’s friend. He mentions about Sawako immediately hanging up the phone that it makes him think that she really treasures Ayane. He tells her that if he hates her then, Sawako might hate him. Then, Ayane asks about Kent’s situation. To her surprise, Shouta tells him that Kent has been mean that he treats the other section’s girls coldly. It was also no good when he tried to talk with Kent. Ayane asks Shouta if he had guessed it and how much does he know.
Shouta asks he doesn’t know much though, Kent told him before that she is thinking of going to a university in Tokyo, and he told Kent that if he wanted to stop her, say it out. Shouta asks if Kent told her. Ayane said yes. Then, Shouta wonders if it was his fault. And, Ayane blames herself for it since she was the one who made Kent say it. Shouta tells her that it is because Kent wanted to say it so he said it so it isn’t her fault. Kent’s feelings belong to him, so Kent isn’t wrong [/at fault]. And, he [Shouta] isn’t at fault either. Ayane starts to say that she considered her brain and her being daughter as a weapon but that isn’t enough. She didn’t think of her boyfriend and her mind is focusing on the university [<- not sure on this one] when this is a guy who likes her. She doesn’t think that guaranteeing security is a bad thing nor wanting to go to college but.. She thinks of her friends who rushed to her, got angry and cried, and Pin who believe in her potential. Those people are around her so why couldn’t she believe in herself. Ayane finally admits that she wants to go to a college in Tokyo. Her luck isn’t bad. She only didn’t see it and she is always run away. Running away from the people around her. Running away from her own feelings. She wants to go and try it. Going back up after a failure. Even if she wasn’t forgiven, she still tell him her feelings. It has been happy with Kent and she felt quite relaxed but she doesn’t want to rely on someone, and she’ll face her deceitful[/cunning] self. Then, she wants to be like Ume who has a difficult to accomplish goal, Chizuru who confessed even if she’ll be rejected and Sawako who still talk with people even if she was ignored so many times. She doesn’t want to push her mistake on to someone else again. She doesn’t want to reject herself again. And, Ayane calls out to Kent and says that she got something to tell him.
Comment: Sorry for the delay since I’m slightly busy when this came out. This chapter is also long, and boring = less enthusiasm. ^^; Since we have two ‘nice’ people who cannot bring themselves to hate each other after what happened so at the long run, they’ll most probably still be friends or at least, remain cordial with each other upon realizing that things just didn’t worked out. This chapter is more like ‘prep time’ before the confrontation and heart-to-heart talk with each other. They’ll probably blame themselves a bit more over what happened then things will be okay. Ayane has some major issues about herself and I really think that she isn’t ready for a romance whether the guy is nice or not. After this incident, she’ll do a lot more reflecting and should focus on her dream to go to a Tokyo university. Basically, focus on herself more in a positive way. Then, maybe Kent would think twice about going steady with someone then hopes that she’ll fall for him later on. Actually, I think in Japan, based on shoujo manga, this kind of thing usually happens. If someone confesses, the other thinks that s/he is okay and says yes even if there is no love between them.

So I’m not sure if it a fault or not, but it does seem to be a problem if one is deeply in love to the point of making one’s life revolve around someone who doesn’t love you. In the end, it will hurt badly when rejected. It is actually a contrast between the two. Kent gives his everything to Ayane whereas, Ayane tends to keep everything to herself because she fears getting hurt and failing. I don’t know about you but I find it weird that they are talking about their love lives to the other’s friends. If I were Kent and Chizuru would say that who cares about you stuff, I don’t think I would talk more about it or even stay there to listen to them talk about Ayane being this and that. It made me realize that Kent doesn’t have any close friends. ^^; I don’t consider Shouta as his friend because of how Shouta usually treats/views Kent so for Kent to tell him about the Ayane thing, I think Kent is desperate for some advice. ^^;; Anyway, the next chapter would most probably be a lot of talk again. Ah..repeating what they told to the others today? ^^; Scans by 工作室

  1. Kent's problem is that he is trying to be a white knight and is looking for someone to save. Whether it was Sawako or Ayane, you get the feeling that any girl would do as long as they are in trouble and will "need" him. Hopefully he'll learn from this.

    1. Hm..that's a good point. Iirc, that is what his fangirls are after him for, too. He tends to help them out. Maybe, was he romantically interested with Sawako? I get the impression that even if he does that, Ayane is the only one he was serious with.

      I actually don't know if he should learn from this. Helping people is okay..but I guess you mean, helping people who doesn't need his help? Like minding other people's business? Don't help any troubled girl unless he was asked?

      If there is a lesson, I would think that it is better for the other party to also like him rather than for him trying to make her like him after going steady.

  3. Thank you Kat ::again:: =D (big grin)

    I mostly read josei/psychological/horror (and very few shoujos because I start to have guilt feelings, it is like reliving my teenage years anew lol. Anyways, I did like the anime which was based on this manga. It was unusual and sweet (though this mangaka has to revise her writing/ plotting techniques because like you said, some of the chapters plummet into pure boredom. I could tell from the first season anime. How long did it take for the two main leads to realize that they liked each other?!). However, giving the fact that you are still reading and summarizing this, it is tempting me to squeeze this series into my schedule and struggle with reading it from scratch hhhhh). You've already revived my interest in "From Five to Nine" (which turned out to be an interesting read in spite of the criticisms aimed towards the main leads from fans elsewhere, and now your comment rekindled my interest for this almost forgotten series). Thanks again. Keep on the good efforts. We all support you. Take care ^^

    1. You're welcome, RoseFleur ^-^

      Lol, is that so. Hm..which psychological/horror manga are you reading? I don't seem see a lot of those or rather, something that can really get me hooked on it ^^

      It took very long. Now that you mention it, it does seem to be her tendency. If you think that can be irritating, just imagine how long it took for them to have a first kiss...after lots of misunderstanding and everything that you'll think that they are going to break up. Honestly, at that point, I took a break from this series since I couldn't relate with it and it's frustrating. ^^;; I re-read again after that is finally done and over with. Thankfully, someone else was summarizing that part. =P

      It depends. For this series, don't base it on the fact that I'm still reading it and summarizing it. My interest for this series has been up and down. It is currently going down again. ^^;

      True, with From 5 to 9, even if the main leads aren't likeable, they are different and in a way, I think that series can pass off as a josei. The biggest draw though has been the 'side couple' of Arthur and Momoe.

      Thanks for the comments ^^

    2. Well yes, you are right, it is hard to find psychological and/or horror (+ mystery, which is one of my favorite genres too), because sometimes they are simply labeled as seinen or mature or drama without mentioning the psychological nature of the plot or the fact that it has mystery or horror themes.

      Let's see, the ones I've read and remember are either josei/shoujou (?) with one or more of the themes mentioned above:

      1 – Vampire Girl (Mystery + Psychological), 2 – Savage Garden (psychological + crime + mystery. It refers in some of the chapters to BL but it definitely isn't yaoi, it's an unusual form of shoujou/josei), 3 – Flowers of Evil (psychological + horror (murder/mutilation) + incest), 4 - Akujo Seisho (horror + psychological + mystery). This particular series had potential but unfortunately it hasn't been completely scanlated. It was dropped for licensing issue, I think.

      The ones that I am going to read later by order of preference are:

      1) Most the series written by Koike Kazue starting with “Colored” – all of them are mature (seinen) but I have to finish each one of them to see if they have psychological/ mystery themes in them though I believe they do, 2) Rainbow (Delinquency + potential psychological), 3) Higanjima (horror – ongoing), 4) Jackals (violence + horror + crime + mystery + potential psychological), 5) Vampire Hunter D (Manga series + 26 novels – Horror + mystery + potential psychological)

      I also recommend “Aiesu” if you are interested in an unusual genre of josei It's a series written to tackle problems faced by intersexuals (people who were born with anatomical characteristics belonging to both genders). Hence, when they grow up, they struggle with their identity (are they male or female?) and will they find love, happiness and acceptance in society? I haven't finished it yet (but I like it insofar because it teaches people about being tolerant towards one other and accepting each other the way they are, the way they were born).

      And thanks Kat for your feedback. It is nice ^^

      Now for Kimi ni Todoke, I can see where you are coming from (I think that the mangaka doesn't practice self-criticism. She had a good idea for this series but she is killing it by its lethargic development.

      As per "From Five to Nine", Takane and Junko are surprisingly my favorite couple though I like Momoe. However, they both have flaws, and I didn't like the blatantly unpleasant implications of showing how Takane is sexually experienced (as a way maybe to attract more readership) or almost a psycho - he did lock Junko, didn't he lol !!!!)

      She could've maintained the problematic aspect in their relationship but in a more refined/subtle/realistic way. Nonetheless, for readers like myself who are interested in unconventional characters and plots, this couple is interesting :D [and so many "thank yous" for summarizing this series and making it available. It is highly appreciated ^^].

    3. Thanks for the list, RoseFleur ^-^

      Seems to be quite complicated stuff ^^ I only know a few of them. Lol, I think I know more shoujo than these kind of series. ^^; My problem with seinen is they tend to be overly gory and sexual. ^^;; Hehe, obviously, the target audience are guys. Anyway, I'll check them out when I have time ^^ Probably just the short ones =P

      That's right..Takane did lock her up. I think he is pretty 'old fashioned' in his way of thinking even if he drives a really cool sports car =P You know, women should be this and that..listen to the man. Most probably related to his upbringing and lifestyle there. I see..and yes, it is indeed 'unconventional'.

      =)

    2. Yep I agree. I'm glad Kat translated it. It is revisiting/repeating the same thoughts over and over. We know she feels guilty and he is hurt..let's move on. Them defining their college paths was the same way..chapters and chapters of them wrestling with college decisions. Losing interest :(.

  6. TBH, I get kinda sad thinking of the many people who still dislike Kent based on how he was "on the way" of KazeSawa or AyaPin. Kent has his flaws but as a character he has grown as much as Kurumi has (and there are still people who don't like her based on stuff that happened over 50 chapters ago). Kent is flawed but the one at fault here is undoubtly Ayane for the way she handled the relationship. She was so rarely nice to him that he was amazed and touched when she complimented him once, she was always distant an dwhile she didn't like him back, she didn't have to keep on dragging it. I'm actually kinda disappointed at Chizu and Sawako for speaking up for Ayane in such an "angry" manner as if Kento - even if while sulking - isn't validated in his pain (have you ever realized the person you are in a relationship with doesn't like you? IT KINDA HURTS) so, ideally, I'd have them be sweeter as opposed to Chizu's usual "I don't care about you" or even Sawako going as far as to call him Miura-San (which is Sawa's closest thing to a temper we will get). Of all of them, I guess Kazehaya understood the situation the most??? Even if he was so "meh" about it. I feel like Shina herself never liked Kent much so she doesn't really bother giving him proper space and, had the couple's fanbase been so big, she wouldn't be spending so much time on it. I'm ok with Ayapin and honestly, don't mind Ayane and Kento so much, but to know that there are people there who think Kento deserves it or is overreacting makes me so angry haha. Ayane has been such a bad person for the sake of protecting herself that I honestly can't wait for this arc to end at least for now (HOPEFULLY ON A VERY MATURE AND FULFILLING WAY OR ELSE I'LL BE UPSET) and we can stray away from Ayane for a long time (I'd hate to have her suddenly go into the MAYBE I'VE ALWAYS LOVED PIN phase because UGH she needs to be fucking alone). So, I'm guessing after this will may focus a little on Chizu's career path as we've seen her handling the finances again and I don't think we will move into KazeSawa again 'till we are properly at the School Festival, so...I can guess Kazehaya and Sawako's arc willnow be about him deciding to let her go and her noticing she wants to leave, so it's more natural for it to focus on Chizu and Ryu's lack of communication. Or maybe I'm being too hopeful because ugh, I can't stand that Chizu thought Ryu only liked her romantically after he confessed and the minute he thought she would say no he decides to go to college, like, she probably still thinks that's how it goes and I need CLOSUUUUUUUURE.
    Hold me, Kat, these chapters have been too hard.

  7. On the contrary I think Shina likes Kent because she made ayane feel regret for what she did. She also decided to show us how Kent is feeling when she could just end things in a less dramatic way and focus only on ayane's feelings instead of kent. That means she cares for him as a character. Of course ayane is at fault and that's why she feels so bad now but we have to understand both sides. We understand kent's feelings because he liked Ayane and it's sure awful to find out that your gf is unable to like you back. But he actually knew that ayane didn't like him when they went steady. That's why he said to her "Fall in love with me" So it was his choice to enter a relationship that doesn't promice him that his feelings will be reciprocated". We don't blame ayane for this choice of his but we blame her because she didn't want to realize that she can't like kent and she should end this. She was too preoccupied with her own problems that she failed to think about kent and actually that's common for people who have problems with themselves. When something is wrong with you, you need healing. So you focus on the problem and tend to become self centered. Of course that doesn't mean that you are self centered in general. All in all I admire Kent for not being hateful towards Ayane and I think Kent is more likely to forgive her that ayane to forgive herself. I hope Kent finds someone good for him in the future and also that Ayane will be able to forgive herself, gain confidence and stop guarding herself out of fear. She has potential to be a wonderful character she just has to realise that.

    1. Here's the thing though, I've talked about how Kent knew she didn't like him back a bunch of times in this comment's section before and how Ayane owed him nothing. HOWEVER, it's not THAT that upsets me. Ayane hasn't been nice to Kent on the whole get go of their relationship. Even if you don't like the guy back, Ayane, like Kent says, never relaxed around him which is not her fault but she was so rarely "there" that even she considers how she never imagined hurting him because he was always smiling and THIS is what I can't let go. The main trait of Ayane's character is that she avoids confrontation so that's why she accepted dating him, that's why she blamed him over not going to tokyo or how she can't do this or that, it's such a constant that both her mom and Pin have pointed it out to her. Shina is giving Kent all "this" (which isn't much because both Chizu and Ayane are being somewhat cold towards his feelings and siding msotly with Ayane which is understandable because they're her friend) is because he ended up with a fanbase bigger than she had planned otherwise, I don't see her even goign through that trouble. The whole break up plot there were moments in which she tried to put Kento in less "shiny palces", like having him sleep with Ayane or yell at the girls, she's trying to break it because she didn't expect him to get so much sympathy. I do hope Ayane never forgives herself tbh, because I know for a fact Kent will which it isn't all that satisfying because while she never made promises and he was such a terrible person when it came to being too fast and getting his hopes up, Ayane ran over other people's feelings for the sake of protecting her own and that's really messed up and something she really should take with her. Ayane is a complex and beautiful character but this whole arc made me very frustrated with how she handled things. Had she just broken up with him the billion times she "wasn't feeling it", it would have been way better. I surely hope it goes this way and not Kent being forever angry because, as I todl you, Shina is trying to break him and stuff.

    2. I think Ayane really wanted to be nice to Kent. She said to herself she wants to treasure him and that Kent is a good guy. It's not like she really wanted to hurt him. On the one hand she wanted to fall for him because he was a nice guy but on the other hand her fear was making her emotionally distant and even if her fear was not the case she didn't understand that Kent being a nice guy doesn't mean she will be able to like him. Wanting to like someone and actually liking him are two completely different things but Ayane was unable to understand that since she was not familiar with the feeling of loving someone romantically. Also I don't recall her blaming Kent she just blamed herself. When Kent said "Don't go" to her she didn't judge him for that. And I don't think that Shina wanted the readers to judge him for that either. I never saw Kent in a negative light. Sure he did pressure ayane and was wrong about that but his behaviour was understandable since deeply down he knew Ayane was not into him and he needed something to prove him wrong. As for Ayane I think it would be really bad if she doesn't forgive herself. She already hates herself, so not being able to forgive herself is going to prevent her from becoming a better person. As I said I think problems = self centerism. So the more she hates herself the more unable she'll be to see something beyond that. I don't say that she should overlook her faults, on the conrary she should acknowledge them all, be honest about them and learn from them like pin said. She can't make her faults undone so it's useless and unhealthy to punish herself repeatedly over the fact she made them. That's not gonna help herself nor Kent whereas forgiveness will provide her with the ability to grow as a person.

    3. By "blame", I meant "putting things on other people's shoulders", it's a language limitation. She wasn't going to college, she was gonan "study with kent" she "couldn't make it", stuff like that. And while she "needs to forgive herself", she needs to take this, she needs to aknowledge the fact and forever be with that in mind that she hurt people on the process of not hurting herself, it's part of what you call "aknowledge" and 'grow". I can't justify her beign self-centered with her issues because regardless of the thought process behind it, she still hurt people in the process. It's ok to keep repeating "but kent knew she didn't like her", but it's not about her liking him back, it's about how she treated him. Not now with the break up or the fact that she couldn't like him back, it's how she over and over was distant and how she sais things like "i can't handle this kind of person" or mocked how cheerful he was. THAT I can't swallow easily. Ayane needs to own up to that part of her, the part that casually agreed to go out with a person and then was distant and cold even though "she wanted to treasure him". We know Ayane's thought process and we understand that she is a good person. Please understand that I love Ayane and understand the thought process building her and leading her to this moment, but like Pin says she's just a immature kid who only sees her own issues and limitations and takes no risks because that would mean exposing herself and it's one thing when she does it to herself but another when she drags people down with her. Ayane is able to think about Sawako and Chizu but if I were to go back into these chapters there were plenty of moments in which she cut even them off. Ayane has been "mean" to Chizu before she met her as well because of her views in the world and her own insecurities and they patched it up but it's still a reinforcement of her traits that are there and are real and it's not because I love this character or that I don't have feelings for her with Kent that I can forgive the shitty stuff she's doing. I'm aware that it's part of her GROWTH but it's bitter for me to watch because - and this is personal taste - I can't stand when actual people do that. "Oh, I'm damage so I'll damage people oops my bad it's because i'm damaged". Ayane feels bad for doing it but all the while the story is played more like "poor ayane thinks she's mean" when itshould be "ayane made mistakes, real actual mistakes and so did kento but ayane needs to own up more and talk it out". If I knew the fandom would take it the same way, as opposed to celebrating her not beign with Kent anymore, I probably wouldn't be so bitter about it.

      Delete
    4. Basically, what I'm saying is that I don't 100% disagree with you, but I am very, very bitter about how the characters and Shina are handling it and I don't think just Ayane feeling bad for "being a bad person" cuts it for me. She can and should forgive herself but not now and not easily because it's a very bad thing to do to be mean to the person you're with AND, which I find worse, to remain with someone you don't like for the sake of avoiding confrontation. She feels bad but it's way more about how she "can't love" as opposed to "i hurt him" and I can't take that very easily. And I get specially bitter knowing the fandom probably won't care, get it?

      Delete
    5. So we seem to agree from what you are saying now that Ayane needs to acknowledge her faults but she also needs to forgive herself? If I understood correctly... Of course she'll remember her faults you can't learn from them if you decide to forget them. Forgive and forget is not the same thing. I also want to say that I recognize faults as faults I never said she was innocent but I also think it's important to understand the reasons behind people's fault. Well I really don't recall Ayane saying that she can't stand Kent or mocking him about being cheerful. In the latest chapter she said Kent is not like her previous boyfriends and that he's a good boy that cares for her and in the previous chapter she said that maybe it never crossed her mind a person like Kent could get hurt because he is always cheerful (She didn't blame Kent for being cheerful, she blamed herself for thinking that Kent can't get hurt just because she can't imagine a cheerful person like him being hurt) I also want to add that Ayane couldn't have thought this at least consciously while she was dating Kent and that's because we know she only realized she didn't like Kent after Kent asking her about it... So she probably thought about this now. As for Chizu and Sawako I also don't recall her being mean to them. She had said she want to be like them because they are truly kind people and she should not be considered as a kind person because that disrespects them who are truly kind. So Ayane right from the start had a bad opinion about herself and we also see that she didn't say anything to justify herself right now. She never said "I'm damaged so I justify myself because of that" she seems to do exactly the opposite which is a good thing because she takes the blame for her wrong doings and decides to be honest with kent. But on the other hand it is also a bad thing because she gives labels to herself like "cunning", "mean" etc which won't help her see the whole picture and her potential of what she can become. Fortunately I think that in this chapter she decided to try her best to grow as a person maybe not for herself since she doesn't value herself much yet but for the sake of others who believe in her and I think it's important to believe in people and see them not only for what they are right now but also for what they can become. I would be really frustrated with her too if I thought there was no chance for her to become a great character but I agree with pin that it's just the beginning for her...
      Sorry for my bad english...

    6. Just to clarify: she was mean to both Kent and Chizu by saying they're loud, obnoxious and stuff (with Chizu you have to check chapter 50), while not commenting directly on it, she's often bothered by it. With Kent you don't have to look too much into it, when she actually complimented him, he was touched (can't remember the chapter but it was back when they were with Kurumi after prep school), she's often like "don't talk about this here, I get embarassed" which is "ok" but not really nice and especially when she said stuff like "it'd be wasting time" or something like that when he asked her out. Being distant, callign people loud, being bothered by it, whether it's something she said or thought it was there and she had the chance to break up many times and didn't because she avoids confrontation and thought it was "comfortable" to do it so, even if she didn't think it upfront. I'm taking this chapter very personally tbh haha. I can't forgive Ayane for the time being, I've always seen her as a great and complex and wonderful character for having all these issues but as long as her speech convince me otherwise and so it happens to the other characters, I'll be very bothered. No matter how you look at it, the Ayane of right now hasn't been a great person and, look, when she says "I''m mean, I'm cunning", she's still just "me me me me" and NOT "I'm hurting people" and I know your argument is that someone who has issues will be self-centered, I can't really get behind it. It's like pointing a gun to your face and saying "I'm doing it because I can't help myself :(", this is a personal thing, but I can't stand characters whose only reasoning behind hurting others is that them, themselves, are hurt or insecure. Ayane is gonna grow and get better at this but Shiina has a LOT of writing to do for me to be able to move on past this arc, she has to AT LEAST sit down with Kent now and show her feelings. What bitters me the most is that instead of telling Kent Ayane cares, they said "Ayane feels terrible"so he doesn't understand and is overreacting, because this isn't about Kent - Kent's feelings at the moment are valid. Not once has Ayane been open or straight with him. If the next chapter isn't her saying what she REALLY has to say and aknowledging that he was a good person as opposed to being "I'm mean so I do that", it's no good. I also don't speak English as my first language, but this Kento situation made me so, so sour about Ayane, not so much about her per say because these actions are explained within her character, but for the way the story is taking it and how the other characters are taking it, as opposed to it being addressed properly. As well as the big part of the readers who take it lightly because are just oo happy it's ending, you see? Can't forgive Ayane much 'till she's honest and she NEEDS to feel bad for a while and be alone for a while and understand that while she ISN'T cunning and mean she DOES mean things in the process. I'm gonna add just this because we are going in circles here and we agree, I'm just more angry at this than you are but ugh, I'm so upset at how this is being handled in the story, uuugh

    7. Yes I see you point. Well as for Chizu I think Ayane was just teasing her and well she already admited she hurt Kent. She didn't just say she's mean and focus on herself. She is thinking about Kent a lot even when talking to pin. Hopefully in the next chapter we'll see them talk and Ayane being honest with him. She seems ready to confront him but knowing her it will probably take time till she forgives herself so like you said she'll probably feel bad for a while.

    8. Wow, such a long discussion, Thatu and Anonymous ^^

      I agree with your first post,Thatu, I don't like how they were talking with Kent there. It is almost what..inconsiderate? Hm..well, Kent must know the risks and it is a huge gamble. Still Ayane said yes. In a way, it does take two to make a relationship work.

      Hopefully, it is indeed a mature and fulfilling conclusion of the arc. I want this arc to be done and over with but then, after this is probably what you've mentioned. Hm..not too interesting either. ;_;

      Indeed, this has been quite difficult to read.

      Regarding whether the mangaka likes Kent or not, cannot say. Making Ayane regret, Anonymous, seems to make her be a 'good person' rather than because the mangaka likes him. True, she should have ended it sooner..still, she was preoccupied and seems to have not realized it until it was pointed out. Wait..this is reminding me of another series, HnR. ^^;; Of course, here, there is no other love rival but rather personal issues.

      Hopefully..actually, we might be able to see that with Ayane but for Kent finding someone good for him, unless there is a time skip, I doubt it since they are already in third year and going into a new relationship seems unlikely after this one.

      Anyway, more or less, it is about Ayane owing up to this mistake, growing up and learning from it..and hopefully, like herself more and don't go into self-pity/poor me/I'm bad, etc...negative thoughts.

  8. I agree that it seems like in manga and anime - when someone confesses, the person confessed to seems obligated to agree to go out. It will be interesting to see how Kent will react after his and Ayane's conversation.

    1. Indeed, SKL especially if there is a bit of 'like'.

      Yup.

  9. Oh Lord, this Ayane's plot is getting really really boring. I mean, how clueless can one be about her own feelings? Also, Kent's been overpushy since the beginning (kinda like Touma with Futaba in Aoharaido) so it's not like he didn't see this one coming... I like him, but the guy became pretty annoying since they started dating kinda like the author messed him up, wich is a shame since the other characters had such great development (especially Kazehaya and Chizu). I hope Ayane can get her issues fixed and come to terms with herself, for she had such potential as a character...

    Nothing seems to happen in these past chapters and it feels like the author's only trying to drag the story for as long as it can get... It'd be much more interesting to see a college arc with them adapting to a new life and distance than to keep stretching something that's already far gone expiration date.

    Anyway, thx for the summary, Kat! Amazing as always ^^#

    Ps: do u happen to read Ookami Shoujo to Kuro Ouji?

    1. Hehe, Kacey..well, it is indeed seem to be dragged on. Here, they just talk about it to other people...preparation for the meeting.

      Is that so..for me though, it seems that the longer this series goes, every character is getting messed up by the mangaka. ^^;;

      Thanks for reading ^-^

      Rather than read, I browse through that series in Chinese =P

  11. Thanks for the summary Kat! :)
    This chapter was definitely a let down. Nothing new was mentioned, and feels soooo dragged. As much as I love Ayane's character and the idea of this arc, I am sick of her constantly stating how horrible of a person she is. Please, build some confidence soon or stop saying these things!
    Despite this, I am still looking forward to the next chapter since I am intrigued what Ayane will say and how Kent will react.
    Hopefully things will pick up after this arc. I have a feeling though things might go in that direction that every shojo goes through: the depressing/dramatic/angsty arc :/ (fingers crossed I am wrong).

      Indeed..they are pretty much repeating everything. Ya..self-blame/self-pitying...hopefully it will be over in the next chapter.

      Is that so.

      Hehe, I think we are already in that depressing/dramatic/angsty arc. ^^;

    2. IKR, but glad its over. she kept saying that she only hurts the nice guys...why not find a bad guy? pin seems to fit the bill since he's a jerk most of the time, but not always.

      hoping for a chapter with pin's POV on his students and he really feels for a certain student. we always see him enter the scene, give his peptalk/advice then exits off just like that. i want to see more of his side of the story. why he acts dumb when he has great talents? why act like a total jerk when he gives the most sensible advices? he's a living contradiction to himself... and i love him.

    3. Ah, no..she did had 'bad guys' before. The ones before Kent. So it seems that both bad and good are no good because she's the problem. She tends to think that those who likes are are no good since she's no good. ^^;

      Hehe, is that so. True, it seems that there isn't much on his POV.
