Sugar*Soldier [Chapter 36]

The ‘U’ [ = rain] in Uki’s name doesn’t mean Japan’s usually seen pitter-patter rain, but rather the southern island’s howling wind shower. Yoshiaki has just kissed Uki. Uki mutters, you.. Then, she instantly smacks him with her shoes and tells him to go far from her, pervert teacher. While dizzy Yoshiaki mutters that it hurts, Uki prepares to go out of the door and shouts, goodbye. He tells her to wait and holds up her shoe. She shouts that she won’t. He mentions that her shoe fell, and is she going to the club. Grabbing her shoe, Uki says that it is almost time for the inter-school qualifying competitions so she doesn’t have the energy to pay attention to him. Yoshiaki just smiles as Uki leaves him. Meanwhile, Makoto has called up Nanami and apologizes for not answering immediately because she isn’t used to her new phone. She asks what’s up. Standing by the pedestrian bridge, Nanami says that it is nothing.
While Iriya tries to eat the melting ice cream, Makoto asks if she’s sure. Nanami just says that it isn’t easy for Makoto to have time with Iriya.. Makoto feels that Nanami is acting a bit strange. She apologizes to Iriya who continues his futile attempt to quickly eat the melting ice cream. Makoto asks Nanami where she is right now. Later on, Nanami is surprised that Makoto came to see her at the pedestrian bridge. Nanami asks about Iriya and did she come like this. Makoto says that she is super worried about her and she had already bid Iriya goodbye, then she came over. Makoto asks her what happened even if she doesn’t know how she can help her. Makoto suggests that they go sit down at a place and talk. After being somewhat in a loss on how to deal with this kind of thing, Makoto tells her that they first go over there. After Makoto took her hand, Nanami apologizes and tells her to forget it, she doesn’t have the right to talk about it with others. Makoto asks why. Nanami quietly looks away.
Recalling her friend before telling her to conform with the modern style rather than her own style, Nanami says that before, she had already rejected an advice that a friend who was thinking of her. She doesn’t regret that but for her to ask for a friend’s help just for her own convenience that is too thick-faced of her. Makoto exclaims that it isn’t thick-faced, and if it is like that, then she [Makoto] would be the thick-faced king since she only knows of asking for help. “Besides, I will be very happy if you would think of me when you are in trouble. About that, as payback for everything until now, I will listen carefully to you. If it is okay, I hope that you can tell him what’s troubling you., Is it okay?” Nanami relents and asks her if Uki really has a boyfriend whom she’s going steady with. Makoto is in shock by the question. She snaps out of it and says that she hasn’t heard it from Uki, and why is she asking this. Nanami says that Uki is tall, beautiful, athletic, good in studies, can sing quite well, and no matter with whom, she treat everyone equally. “For me, Morinaga-chan is like a prince.” Makoto looks surprised and thinks that lately, she is only thinking of her own issues that it is possible that she didn’t notice the changes in her surroundings.
During PE basketball game, some girls scream for Uki-senpai. Makoto is amazed that she already has fans [among the first years]. She and Nanami came here because Uki said that it will be determined in this game between club members, as to who will compose the playing team to the interschool competition. She looks at Nanami and thinks that today, she seems to be back to how she used to be. In the end, Nanami didn’t say much to her. To break the silence, Makoto says that it will be good if Uki gets in the team. Looking at Uki playing, Nanami says that she will since it is Uki. Makoto thinks over what Nanami said that Uki is a prince. She does understand this a bit for she did thought before that Uki is quite manly in some areas, compared to a guy even if Iriya is particularly handsome. It is because of this, she never thought of this thing about Uki having a boyfriend. She is puzzled over why the topic suddenly changed. [<- probably Nanami not touching that topic again] Just then, a basketball is thrown towards Nanami’s direction and the other player wasn’t able to catch it. Uki exclaims danger. She catches the ball and falls on the floor.
Looking at Nanami, Uki asks her if she is alright. Nanami and others are worried. Uki tries to sit up but says that it hurts. Her other club members go to her and asks if she is alright. Uki laughs and apologizes. Then, Uki winces in pain as she holds her left foot. She cannot stand up. At the clinic, Yoshiaki looks in surprise at Uki’s bandaged foot. The doctor says that it is a sprain even if it shouldn’t be serious. It is advised that just in case, she shouldn’t engage in physical[/contact] sports for the time being. If it still hurts very much, she should go to the hospital. The doctor asks Yoshiaki to contact Uki’s family. Yoshiaki says that they aren’t home so he’ll bring Uki home. A student comes in to say that there is someone anemic in the soccer club. As the doctor leaves, Yoshiaki tells Uki that he’ll get the car and can she walk to the entrance. Uki says okay. Before Yoshiaki can leave, distraught Nanami tearfully apologizes to Uki. She kept on apologizing that Makoto tries to calm her. Uki tells Nanami not to cry and it isn’t her fault, she is really okay.
Nanami says but she obviously always worked hard to practice. Uki tells her that this isn’t the last opportunity, and there will be a next time so it is alright, okay? Nanami wipes her tears and says that if there is something that she needs her to do, please tell her and she’ll do it whatever it is. Uki asks her to help her in getting her school bag in the club room for it will be hard for her to climb up the stairs. Nanami exclaims, okay. Uki asks Makoto to accompany Nanami. Makoto says okay and hurries after Nanami. Uki thanks her. After they are gone, Yoshiaki glances at Uki and says that she’s really clumsy [/stupid]. Uki angrily says that he’s annoying. He asks her if she wants to eat something on the way home. Uki says okay, she’s hungry. Then, Uki leans her head on Yoshiaki’s side. He pats her head and slightly smiles. She says that they eat takoyaki [octopus in batter balls]. He just says, oh and she angrily complains over how heavy his arm is on her head. Yusa has just arrived and peeks through the door to see the two together.
Comment: As a friend, that was really nice of Makoto to go out of her way to talk with Nanami even if she is on a date with Iriya. And well, Iriya is very understanding. It is amazing that Makoto isn’t upset or anything that her date got interrupted over a question on Uki’s dating status. Well, Makoto probably didn’t mind since she is really concerned over Nanami and it is probably rare of her to call her. It seems that she didn’t figure out that Nanami has feelings for Uki. Of course, it might just be an ‘idol’ thing or perhaps, towards romance. And, it is normal for Nanami to react that way for causing Uki to be injured, indirectly because of her. I wonder if Uki knows of how Nanami thinks of her. Though, I’m not sure about what Uki feels for Yoshiaki though. She didn’t react much on the kiss but she did react vulnerable only in front of him. Is there more to it or just because he is probably a ‘childhood friend’ being her brother’s friend so they are kind of close? Of course, for Yusa to see that, he might misinterpret it. Things are inconclusive but there is one thing for sure, Uki is very popular and she seems to have a harem =P It seems that she has taken over Makoto’s leading role ^^; Scans by allwink

  1. I Think Uki knows that Nanami adore her, but not in a romance way. As for Uki and Yoshikai, I think she didn't react much on the kiss because Yoshikai may be doing that to her or other girls often then he told her it doesn't mean anything, or he is her one sided love. However, Uki didn't react much when Yusa kissed her. There is a possibility that Uki doesn't believe in love nor be in romance relationship. I hope we will know what is the relation between Yoshikai and Uki and what make Uki unreact to the kiss from two men. By the way, thanks for summary! <3 Tika

    1. Thanks for reading, Tika ^-^

      True..and that is a possibility.

Ya..and well, it is quite different from how shoujo girls would usually react. ^^

  2. It makes me wonder why Yoshiaki is doing all of these things to Uki especially he's a teacher in her school...is he just teasing her or there's some more into it? Hopefully we'll learn more about him and his relationship with Uki at the next chapter. I also hope Nanami will also have a moment wherein we can get to know more about her because she seems interesting to me ^^

Thank you kat for another summary :)

  3. I see some yuri (or maybe it's just that she's sorta confused, idk) happening! But am I the only one that finds it strange that Yoshiaki has more hair than Uki? xD

Thank you for your wonderful summaries :)

    1. Ya..it seems to be like that.

Lol..well, Uki is suppose to be 'tomboyish' so less hair?

      Thanks for reading ^-^

  4. I'd like to be honest and say that it's getting less interesting to me with these side characters. If Iriya and Makoto's romance is already stable and strong, I feel it's time to end the story. That's just me though.

    1. Is that so, megaworthit.

      True, but I guess the series is still going strong in Japan so why end it when it can be prolonged. The side characters are 'different' on their own. Some Chinese readers find Uki, a strong girl, as a lead character more interesting than Makoto. ^^;
