Hibi Chouchou [Chapter 52]

Aya walks Suiren to school then Suiren goes to her classroom alone. She takes her seat and recalls Kawasumi telling her that for the time being, he won’t be walking her home because of a duel that he doesn’t want to lose. She had told him okay, understood, goodbye. She looks at her phone for two minutes from 22:05. As she lies down on the bed, she thinks that it is okay if they cannot go home together. It is also okay that there are something that [he?] is totally captivated about. She wasn’t able to say a ‘gambatte’ [/good luck] and they just hang up like that. She really wants him to call again, wants him to ask her if it’s alright. End flashback. She feels quite lonely. Then, she sees Kawasumi by the classroom’s door. He sees her. He smiles and nods. This made her blush as he casually passes by. Fanboys start to cause a ruckus over Kawasumi exchanging meaningful glances with Takane [no hana]-chan. Kawasumi ignores them as he just sits on his seat. The fanboys furiously warns him that even if they are in the same classroom, it is forbidden to do that kind of thing from today on. They were interrupted by Meguna who tells them that like that, those two’s love will be more intense just like Romeo and Juliet. A fanboy exclaims that it is beauty and the beast. Meguna tells them to look, they’ve made Suiren’s mood bad and it is because they didn’t notice a bit so they are unpopular guys. She says that Suiren is quite pitiful, guys are detestable and do they have an ailment. The fanboys are aghast and surprised by what she said. A crying fanboy points at Kawasumi and shouts that it is already happiness that one can just watch Suiren but that guy stole her away. Kawata, Kawasumi’s friend, says that if it is Kawasumi, it is a bit.. Kawasumi angrily calls his name. Meguna gestures to Suiren and tells the fanboys to look at this side. They are shock to see Suiren trembling and looking aghast. Irked Kawasumi says how noisy[/wordy]. While the fanboys are turning into shock-ghosts, Meguna rubs it in by saying that they obviously don’t have a girlfriend. Shigeno-sensei comes in and tells everyone to sit down. He starts doing a roll call. Suiren thinks that they are in the same classroom, in the same section, even if she’s very happy, but it is somewhat suffocating. Seeing Suiren’s expression, Meguna asks what it is, love trouble, she’ll listen to that. Suiren thinks that when she turns around to look at Meguna, she deliberately look away [from] Kawasumi [who is seating at the back]. Probably at the classroom, they can have a relationship as classmates.
Then, Aya and Yuri call out to Suiren and tell her that they’ll eat together for lunch. She nods her head. Yuri is sad that they’ll have to go to their classroom. After a sad goodbye from her two friends, Meguna asks Suiren if she’s good in mathematics. Suiren shakes her head. Meguna says, same with her. Then, during lunch, Meguna joins the other girls. While eating, they see Kawasumi coming to the roof. Suiren goes inside to the stairs with him and they stand by the door. Kawasumi sees her looking at him. He blushes and looks away. He apologizes for it being sudden. He also apologizes for those guys in class a while ago. She shakes her head. They look at each other. She notices him looking serious. He tells her that he thinks that it is better for them not to talk to each other in the classroom. This surprises her. He looks down. She nods her head. She thinks that compared to anyone, she clearly knows that it is more relaxing not to talk. Suiren goes back to the others. She is also not good in talking [/expressing herself] and it absolutely isn’t Kawasumi’s fault. Although no one is at fault, but it is the first time she’s told by someone not to talk. She recalls their phone conversation and wonders what would happen if she said that she’s lonely. She has been thinking about this yesterday and today, is it truly okay not to have said it? Seeing her expression, her friends quickly ask what had happened. Suiren thinks that a loose mouth may cause trouble. Aya asks Suiren what Kawasumi want but Suiren won’t say. So, Aya asks Meguna instead. She informs them that today it was quite a ruckus started by the guys just because the two exchanged glances. Yuri is dismayed to hear that. Aya looks at Suiren and asks if Kawasumi told her something like ignore him in class. Suiren shakes her head. Aya asks if it better not to talk. Suiren nods. Yuri couldn’t believe that. Meguna says that even so, perhaps, for the two of them, this is good. Aya admits that she also thinks it is better to do that but obviously, there is no need to deliberately say it like that. While the girls are talking, Suiren thinks that following being classmates, she’s currently trying to find their [two of them, electric] contact. She kept on looking for it and would it show up. Maybe like this, no matter what, it will be lost. Recalling Kawasumi telling her that he absolutely won’t make her feel uneasy, Suiren thinks that she’s lonely and at the same time, she’s also very scared.
Comment: I think it is a unique Japan situation wherein fanboys/girls would prefer the popular boy/girl to be single so that s/he is ‘shared’ rather than being monopolized by just one person. If the popular person has gone steady, fanboys/girls can be vicious toward the ‘thief’. Unlike in other shoujos, we have fanboys here and they can be very annoying. Troublesome since they can affect the two’s relationship. Meguna tries to side with the couple but the fanboys really make a fuss that even Kawasumi snapped and Suiren is uneasy over it. It also doesn’t help that Kawasumi is deciding things on his own regarding what he thinks is best for him in regards to karate and for them in regards with dealing with the fanboys without talking it with Suiren first. I can understand her fear regarding this since these two incidents can somewhat make them drift apart. This made me wonder if this is the reason why Atohira would prefer a more vocal girl for Kawasumi since Suiren tends to just agree with what Kawasumi wants even if she doesn’t really agree/is happy with his decision. He did warn before of pressure building up in Suiren because of that and it might cause them to break up which seems to be what is making Suiren feel scared aside from being lonely. It is really too bad that it is a rare opportunity for them to be classmates but they couldn’t enjoy it together. Hopefully, they’ll resolve this issue so that they’ll have happier memories while being classmates or at least, make their relationship move smoothly as it progress. ^^ Scans by allwink

  1. annoying fanboys -_-
    i'm really dissappointed kawasumi too!
    but,on the other hand i wish this situation will lead suiren to the limit that she can finially speaking what she want and make kawasumi concerns more about her

    1. If someones existance was similiar to suirens in real life ot would be really depressing, having to know that u are the Centre of attention aka tane no hana (thats annoying -.-). Having fans who wouldnt let you make a relationship with the One u truly like other than the crowd is truly sad. I pity both kawasumi and suiren. Hopefully they'll get along as they were before in the chapter hereafter (which is sooooooo obvious that its going to because every shoujo manga couple goes through a situation like this and gets back to being lovey dovey XD)

    2. Indeed..it is very difficult.

      That's right..and it would be nice if there is some character development while this is going on ^^

  2. Thanks for the summary :)
    I like the couple of Kawasumi and suiren but it has always felt more like Kawasumi likes suiren but not necessarily is in love w her. Where as suiren is already in love. I'm not quite sure if he is going to change anytime soon since the pace of the manga is a bit slow but I hope they a e e able to overcome their problems

    1. Thanks for reading ^-^

      True..it seems like that. And, hopefully, they will. ^^

  3. Kat, you're spot on in your assessment of kawasumi and Suiren's relationship. I will go further and say Kawasumi is turning into a jerk in his relationship with Suiren. He just does what he wants without regards to what Suiren thinks about it. He cannot even protect her from her fanboys. He is the boyfriend, so why give in to these fanboys , to the extent that they will not even talk to each other in these guys' presence.

    I like Hibi Chouchou,. But seriously, it's become painfully agonizing to read the story . It used to be refreshing to read it, but to me it has ceased to be cute, just agonizingly painful to read. Their relationship has also turned unrealistic. Such a boring zombie couple. Atohira is right. kawasumi needs someone like that girl who had a crush on him, who's vocal and straightforward ( Meguro? ) and I think Suiren needs someone like Atohira, or Kawasumi's best friend. Too late though.

    1. Indeed, megawortht. It seems like he doesn't seem to know what is involved in a relationship = two of them and not just one deciding for the other. Actually, I think he is trying to protect her 'ordinary peaceful life' without hassle from the fanboys causing a ruckus whenever he does something to/with Suiren. They are 'attacking' Kawasumi which in turn makes Suiren feel bad. But true, he is the boyfriend and he is a bit complacent though they are very noisy and annoying - protesting out loud over every time something happens between them. ^^;

      Is that so. Anyway, we'll just see how this works out for them.

  4. I think they need like a "break up" period to go out and get to know other people because like Mega above me said they are a very "Zombie couple" its always good if at least one of the people in the relationship has some sort of experience but in this case neither of them do. Suiren needs someone that can notice when she is uncomfortable about something and can ask her whats wrong, and that can also put the annoying fanboys in their place because so far all Kawasumi has done is go along with their flow. And Kawasumi needs someone that can tell him when he is being insensible and to share his problems with her and is just like Atohira said in the previous chapter "more vocal"

    I still want them to be the end couple but I want them to break up for a while so they can work on their own problems, and still want to be together after everything is said and done.

    1. Is that so. That is possible..or like the earlier rift, someone 'pushes' them and they ended up talking about it and things are okay. Though, it isn't good if this becomes some sort of cycle. ^^;

      Also, I'm not too sure if they will be back together, soon or might be never, after a break up because Kawasumi will most surely focus all out again in karate rather than 'work on their own problems'. I think of him as a 'jock' so he is only good at karate and everything else especially romance = no experience as you've mentioned. So, he might actually think that romance isn't for him. ^^;

    2. That is exactly why I am starting to hate the idea of them being together. I wish this manga would take the realistic route and show that first loves don't always workout and that is possible to move on.

      I no longer feel that they are in love but more like they are infatuated with each other. Specially since Kawasumi couldn't even answer Atohira's previous question about what he finds so good about Suiren besides her looks

    3. Is that so..though I don't think this series will go that route. There are also other Margaret series doing that - first love don't always work out - and this seems like a fixed couple series to me.

      Is that so..even that hug and birthday gift thing?

  5. I'm somewhat sad with this chapter. I thought that they had progressed a little bit in previous chapters and now it looks like they have taken a step back. I'm disappointed with Kawasumi for not being man enough to stand up against the fan boys when in fact he is very formidable in karate and he should fear no one. I wish he could reassure Suiren more and I wish she were more vocal about it as well. *Sigh* I hope this issue won't drag on and will be resolved soon.

    1. Indeed.

      True..though there are many of them..can he defeat all? Defeating is one thing but I don't think he will go unpunished for it since they are mostly just yapping their mouths and being noisy which doesn't warrant a good beating up. And, I think he's concerned over the ruckus they are making which is affecting Suiren's 'normal school life'. And, he cannot exactly force them to quit the ruckus which they had been doing since they were going steady.

      Hehe, it does make me think what it is like to have annoying people around who doesn't want you to be with the popular person and how to deal with it since they are not going to stop even if you tell them to.

      True..hopefully so.

    2. We've read so many mangas where a protagonist ( usually the girl) is bullied when the most popular guy, the Prince, gets together with the main girl. And they say something like " He is for everyone, you can't have him" or something like that. It used to amuse me, but not anymore. It's so cliche, and goodness gracious, can they actually say that? LOL And more often than not, the male protagonist tolerates such behavior from his fans. I don't know if that actually happens in Japan ( or Korea), but I'm like, " what the heck!, Are you guys kidding me ? " Is that cultural ? In this story though, it's the female protagonist who belongs to everyone. * facepalm* I think I'm really getting old. Ha ha ha

      It's so easy for Kawasumi to talk to the guy classmates. I really see no reason why he can't do that. I'm flabbergasted. It looks to me he'd rather stay away from Suiren than confront these guys. And Suiren should speak her mind too.

      Honestly, both S and K are retards, pardon the word.

    3. Ya, megaworthit but it seems that they would. It happens too often so there must be some truth to it = something cultural. I'm not sure if you are aware but in Japan, idols tend not to have lovers, at least, publicly known, because it is in the contract..I know for females not sure for the guys. Because the fans would get angry = the mindset of 's/he is for everyone, you can't have her/him'. And, they can be vicious if it happens. You read Kanojo wa Uso so I'm sure you have an idea about it.

      Maybe that somewhat crossed over to the school setting unless the mangaka is doing some parody of that if it isn't real in the school setting. ^^; Indeed, this one is a reverse of that.

      True..he didn't try to talk to them. In a way, it seems like he would rather they adjust to the fanboys rather than vice-versa. Well, I think that's the point of the predicament here = overcoming their weakness/overcoming setbacks for a smooth relationship. I just hope it isn't too dragged on like what happened in Kimi ni Todoke.

  6. Thanks a lot for the summary!
    Hmm I hope this situation will make Suiren speak up!!! What Kawasumi is doing isn't very fair and he needs someone to let him ASAP!

  7. Wow...I think many of us are in agreement on the frustration of this chapter...their embarrassment and sweetness falling for eachother was so refreshing...now it's just getting painful and they aren't moving forward. Suiren is so weak she's getting pushed around by Kawasaki...Kawasaki worries more about attention being on him than being happy with his girl...and we are still to the point where they can't look at eachother without blushing...

    Atohira was actually a bit smarter than we thought previously I think...these two have lots of maturing to do still.

  8. Woooo. And here I thought only girls would act like that. Hibi Chouchou always brings something new to me. Fanboy are scarier than fangirls. Or am I underestimating fangirls?? Nonetheless, good job here Kat! Will be looking forward to your summaries! (And I suddenly remember Last Game. Ugh! I hope they would release the next chapters already. I'm getting itchy waiting for the scans. >.<)

    1. Hehe, Pickled Cucumber, I think fangirls are scarier. But, true, it is a 'new' that it is fanboys who are going 'crazy' here.

      Thanks for reading and the comment ^-^

      Hehe..soon. LG is around the 24th.
