To her surprise, Yanagi sees her and asks what she is doing
here. She tells him that her head hurts a bit. He asks if she is alright, and
won’t it be better to rest at home[/at the inn]. Recalling how Kujou is reacting
to Yanagi yesterday, she says, ‘but..’. He asks what is it, she doesn’t look
well, he’ll go get some water for her. Tachibana blurts out that he said that
he is always chasing after Kujou but she still has no way of letting it go. Kujou
is not remarkable, not beautiful that one can say that she’s ordinary but for
him to be like this towards her.. Yanagi asks her instead what she likes about
him. Tachibana says that of course, because he is handsome, intelligent and has
a nice character, also, he is the director’s son and rich. Yanagi agrees that
those cannot be ignored but Kujou isn’t the same because it seems for her,
whether appearance or position, it has nothing to do with her
decision[/judgment]. Tachibana thinks that her way of thinking is to become
perfect to get other people’s approval whereas for Kujou, she doesn’t
understand what’s so bad about being fat. Tachibana thinks that regardless
which part, she and Kujou are opposites. Yanagi says, “..if that girl has
fallen for me, then, it is purely because she likes me like this.” Then, Yanagi
starts to complain that Kujou isn’t remarkable, beautiful, a bumpkin, a hick.
Tachibana thinks that she absolutely didn’t say some of those. Yangai says that
all of this everything is insignificant to him. Tachibana thinks, “..he
basically doesn’t mind the other person’s appearance or past, and fallen in
love with that person. ..it’s really nice *blushes* If there is someone who can
like me like this, it ought to be great.” Soon, everyone caught a lot of fish.
While resting, Yoshida asks if they can eat these fishes. Fujimoto says who
knows. Seeing Kujou with some drinks, Miyabe asks her where she is going. She
says that she’s going to give some drinks to Yanagi and Tachibana. He tells her
that he just saw Yanagi giving Tachibana a drink. Kujou is surprised by this. Fujimoto
tells Kujou that the senpai-s are swimming and the fish had escaped [from that
place]. Kujou says that she’ll go somewhere else to fish. While walking, Kujou
finds fishing fun and next time, she’ll research on it. Then, she recalls being
told that Yanagi brought a drink to Tachibana. She wonders if there is someone
who can make Yanagi smile like that, and could it be Tachibana. She shakes off
her head to forget it for she doesn’t want to feel that kind of feeling because
like that, she’ll waver non-stop.
Souma calls out to her and warns her not to walk further for
it’s dangerous there. She goes to him and asks what he is doing there. He tells
her that his mother wanted him to watch this place so that they won’t be in danger.
While Souma is complaining about being hit all of a sudden by his mother, Kujou
innocently asks if he is currently in a rebellious stage. Souma spits out his
drink. Kujou says that his mother said that. Souma is furious. Kujou tells him
that even if he is in rebellious stage, she thinks that he must not have that
kind of attitude towards his father. Irked Souma tells her that she’s
meddlesome when she obviously didn’t know his family situation. He didn’t
continue since he realizes that what he said is too mean. Kujou apologizes for
she didn’t experience rebellious stage so she isn’t quite too sure.. Souma
shouts for her to please don’t keep on mentioning that rebellious stage word.
Souma says that surely, unlike his, she has a good father. Kujou says that she
thinks that he is indeed nice although she is still young when her father died
so she doesn’t quite remember it. Souma goes ha, so she says that he got into
an accident when she was young. Souma becomes gloomy and speechless that Kujou
is puzzled. While fishing, Kujou tells him that at that time, the vegetables
that he shared with her, those are quite delicious. Souma says is that so, he
did hear her say that before. She tells him that at that time, she thought that
he particularly choose those because he wants to give those to her. Souma looks
surprised and wonders why she is always like this. Turning around, he says that
those are chosen by his mother, or else, it’ll[? vegetables?] definitely be
ignored. He recalls his father telling him why he is being a greenhorn [= doesn’t
finish what he started] that he would avoid it by going to some place like
Tokyo. Souma thinks that is right, so he’s angry. “Old man probably knows it.
What I hate isn’t at all, my old man or the province, but rather, myself.”
Then, the wind blows Kujou’s hat away. Kujou goes to get it since it is
borrowed. After getting it, she loses her balance. Souma tries to grab her but
he also ended up in the water with Kujou. Souma apologizes and says that it’s
good that she got her hat back. Kujou says that she got a fish in the hat so it
is amazing, and very lucky. After looking speechless, Souma laughs and thinks, “Geez..this
girl..” He smiles and says, ya [lucky]. Later on, Yanagi happily shows off his
six fishesin the pail. Pouting Kujou whose dress is already dried says amazing.
Yanagi is laughing his head off that he won. Fujimoto wonders if it is really
happy for an experienced person to win against a beginner.
After some more fishing, they return back to the inn. Souma’s
father returns to see Souma waiting for him. Before his father goes in, he
tells his father to send them again next time, because a friend[/acquaintance] told
him that it’s very delicious..his vegetables. Souma’s father pulls down his cap
and smiles to say, is that so. After an awkward pause, embarrassed Souma shouts
that it isn’t his idea, it is for his friend. His father shouts back who knows
that, and it isn’t for him, it is for that friend. A note says the father and son
is the same. Then, his father calls out where he is going. Souma says that he
is going where the wind blows. While walking, Souma wonders why he is like
this. Then, Kujou goes towards him and calls out to him. He asks what it is.
She says that she saw him go out or she should say, she heard him talking with
his father and she thinks that they seem to be quarreling. Souma chuckles for
Kujou thought of it that way. He tells her that it isn’t a quarrel or he should
say, they are doing a bit of compromise and, thanks to someone, he changed his
mind. “..perhaps, it would have been better if I didn’t run away to Tokyo.”
Kujou is puzzled. Then, they see some fireflies. [Note: The kanji of Souma’s
name meant ‘firefly’] Kujou is delighted over this because it is the first time
she saw them. Souma says that every summer, it is like this. While holding his
hand closed, he tells her to come over. After Kujou did as told, Souma opens
his hands and a firefly out. Kujou is delighted over it. She tells him that
even if she isn’t sure why he came to Tokyo but no matter what the reason is,
coming to Tokyo isn’t a mistake. “Because, like this, *smiles* I was able to
meet you.” She suggests that they call everyone to catch fireflies.. Souma
suddenly grabs her hand. Surprised Kujou asks him what it is. Souma is blushing.
He thinks that until now, he always know think that no matter what he truly
feels, it doesn’t mean anything for even if he say it, it also won’t change
things that he chose to give up early on but.. He recalls Tachibana saying that
she won’t give up if there is a trace of possibility. He wonders if there is
any value to saying it out loud that even if he’ll lose face, and even if it
only has a ten thousand to one possibility, and in the end, it couldn’t come
true. He calls out her name. Flustered, he thinks that actually, he already does
not want to run away again. Souma tells surprised Kujou, “I like you.”
Comment:
Apparently, it is ominous for Yanagi to win against Kujou. =P In this case, the
fishing ‘contest’ since later on, Souma had beat Yanagi to the confession.
Since this is Kujou, there is a possibility that she might go the typical
clueless heroine who would say, ‘yes, I like you, too..because we’re very good
friends’-type of stuff. If Kujou knows what Souma is referring to would react
like a ‘normal girl’ to this, I think it is a good thing for it will force
Yanagi to step up his pacing especially if Kujou goes blushing and avoid Souma
as if something happened between them or at the very least, make Yanagi know
about it so that he’ll be more ah..hard pressed. The other good thing is she
might already know or is going to know what is ‘like as in love’ and can come
to associate that feeling she has towards Yanagi. ^^ Well, for now, it seems
that the problem would be more on Souma than Tachibana. It is really nice what
Yanagi said as to what he likes about Kujou. From her thoughts, I think
Tachibana would aim for that, too and might let go of chasing after Yanagi. Souma’s
parents really know him quite well ^^ And, it does seem like he is going
through a rebellious stage. For him to confess, it is already a big step for
him especially since he always easily gives up when the chances are small. I
kind of feel sorry for him about his ‘bad luck’ of always being ‘second’ in
sports and romance and getting sick during important occasions. Anyway, the
Souma x Kujou scenes are really nice and since this is a fixed couple series, I’m
expecting something nicer from the main couple when it is Yanagi’s turn. ^^ Scans

Quote of the day:
Never say that you can't do something, or that something
seems impossible, or that something can't be done, no matter how discouraging
or harrowing it may be; human beings are limited only by what we allow
ourselves to be limited by: our own minds. We are each the masters of our own
reality; when we become self-aware to this: absolutely anything in the world is
possible. ~ Mike Norton
I feel like she'll just say: "I like you too... As well as the rest of the gang." *sigh* I fell kinda sorry for Souma because the longer he stays beside Kujou makes him fall in love deeper with her.
ReplyDeleteHehe..she might say something like that.
DeleteIndeed.
This was one of my least favorite chapters so far, partly because of Souma's cliche and ultimately unimportant confession, but mostly because Yanagi and Kujou barely said a word to each other throughout the entire chapter. This was especially disappointing because of the promise for significant development between Yanagi and Kujou following their progress in the 28th chapter. Plus, yet another rival ends up not truly caring about the main heroine's feelings, since Souma completely realizes that Kujou is already in love with Yanagi. Surprisingly, Yanagi and Tachibana's conversation was the best part of the chapter, and I could easily see her beginning to have feelings for Souma in the next chapter or two, which would be a refreshing change of pace.
ReplyDeleteSouma was far too prevalent in this chapter, as he has been in quite a few chapters since the eleventh. Aside from the confession being badly timed and a waste of character development, he's spent too many chapters clouding the story with his moodiness to suddenly interfere. I like that this will allow him to finally move on, since anything but a rejection from Kujou is practically impossible, but a confession didn't need to be preceded by almost an entire chapter of Souma and Kujou interacting. I think it's inevitable that Kujou will act like the "clueless heroine", which will basically be seen as a rejection by Souma. After the conclusion to this trip, I'm hoping he'll start to gravitate towards Tachibana, since both of these rival characters have been consistently taking too much time from the main relationship of the story.
As for Yanagi and Kujou, there's not much to say. Even though they were both thinking of the other, the absence of their interactions was incredibly noticeable, since they provide the majority of the energy in this manga. I'm expecting there to be a very significant development between them in the next chapter, especially after Yanagi discovers that Souma had confessed, since otherwise, the confession and the trip as a whole, would have served no real purpose, aside from providing insight into Souma's family situation, which I found immensely dull.
Couldn't agree more about your comments, exactly the same as my thought. Quite dissapointing chapter if i must say...its devastating that the mangaka decide to focus on souma its been a lot of chapters already with this kind of souma-kujou focus and they're not even the main couple. Please mangaka focus more on the development between yanagi-kujou. That's what readers really want to read anway. Thanks kat for the fast review.
DeleteEh...but as much as I am a fan of YanagiXKujou and would like to read progress, this is good, too. Love in life is not smooth sailing, and if stories went along with our desires then...well, you readers seem knowledgeable enough to know the rest. Also, people this dense do exist - they are just extremely rare and may sometimes have brains that function on a different level than the norm. Just sayin....
DeleteTrue, Redford though I view this like how other girls in shoujo would do = confess even if it is futile to move on or at least, do not regret not having to say it. But indeed, their talk earlier seems to have been bypassed with more focus on Souma. Indeed..that conversation is really nice ^^
DeleteHopefully so..I'm expecting a major progress before they go home..ah..Kujou knowing what 'love' is? ^^;; Hehe, I'm lowering my expectation.
Hehe..Anonymous1..perhaps, the series is being dragged to prolong it hence focusing on the other characters..specifically Souma.
DeleteThanks for reading ^-^
No YanagiXKujou interaction = awful chapter
ReplyDeleteThank you for the summary, it was fast ;)
Hehe, is that so.
DeleteThanks for reading ^-^
I don't undestand why so many readees criticis this chapter, it's nice and souma is a nice guy. I know that it sill end sith kujouXyanagj but the other characters also need development .
ReplyDeleteif souma didn't confess I think moving on would be quite hard for him
but my shoujo instinct warn me thag souma and tachibana would become an couple ^_^
True...but I think if one is reading only for the main couple..this won't be a likeable chapter.
DeleteIndeed, I think it would help him move on.
Hehe, is that so. For me..I'm not sure. Souma is entertaining thoughts of staying there later on, Tachibana isn't used to that place but of course, maybe with love..it is possible ^^
I actually loved this chapter! I'm glad that there is at least some progress in the story.
ReplyDeleteThanks once again for the awesome summaries :)
Is that so, and thanks for reading ^-^
DeleteThank you, Kat, for your work on the summaries, commentary + daily quote! Your insight for this pleasantly reminded me of Shiawase Kissa Sanchoume (so cute and hilarious!) - specifically when Uru ponders Sou's love confession and when she thinks of her feelings about Sou a bunch of other people come to mind. At first, she is somewhat unsure of her own feelings, but definitely is a bit more self-aware as opposed to Kujou. c'est l'amour
ReplyDeleteThanks for reading ^-^
DeleteIs that so..well, we'll know later on if it would indeed be like that.
Loved it!!! Thank you so much ^^
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome, kavy ^-^
DeleteAs a kujouXyanagi fan, I don't hate this chapter. "If you didn't try, then you will never know" I am glad that Souma confessed to Kujou, so he can move on, and go flow with it. If he didnt confess, then it can be a problem for him. I like Souma. He's a nice and funny person, but I ship Kujou with Yangagi. I have this funny premonition that Souma might will end up with Tachibana :) btw thanks for the summary <3 Tika
ReplyDeleteYup, I think so too..even if well, from his thoughts, it wasn't like that = not that intention. ^^;
DeleteHehe, is that so and it is likely for them to be together..even if I'm not sure where they will live since Tachibana isn't used to province life..oh well, maybe love will conquer that ^^
Thanks for reading, Tika ^-^
Thanks Kat for the summary, I've been waiting for this! >_<
ReplyDeleteI'm also a KujouxYanagi fan but I don't think seeing KujouxSouma scenes are bad. I think the author's trying to see through each of the characters' minds. I like Souma's character this way and it was a good thing that he confessed. I was thinking that maybe this will be the trigger for Kujou so she can start understanding what the words "I like you as a guy/girl" means. And a good way of opening the world of love to her, if you ask me. ^_^ It might become a big shock to her but I'm guessing that this event will caused her to realize her feelings for Yanagi. At the same time, it will open a path for Yanagi so he can finally confessed to her himself. ^_^
ReplyDeleteYa..I'm also thinking along those lines, Pickled Cucumber.
DeleteThanks for the summaries, Kat! I really really really appreciate them so much since I cannot read Mandarin! And that's my first comment up there. I'm kinda shy so I don't really comment but I've been following your blog for like...a year, I guess. I think that was still in tumblr or livejournal, I forgot. Good luck for the future reviews and summaries! ^_^
DeleteThanks for reading them, Pickled Cucumber ^-^
DeleteAh..thanks for the support ^_^
I found this posting during finding chapter 29 thanks for summary~~^0^
ReplyDeletethanks for the chapter!!!..... but, i would like to ask.... does anyone know why they stopped tranlating these series to english????? not that i don´t enjoy your summaries, in fact, they help me understand some things like facial expresions and ambigous sentenses but, i would really, really like to read the other chapter translated as well......
ReplyDeleteps: sorry for my english but i am actually from Costa Rica :)
Thanks for reading ^-^
DeleteAh..you mean English scanlation, right? Sorry, I don't know their status for that.
I think allot of people dont like this chapter because Souma has a better chance then most side rivals of getting the girl. Lets not forget that this is suppose to be a "Twisted pure love story" so Tachibana an Souma may get their targets. All things considered Im mentally prepared for a bittersweet ending maybe.
ReplyDeleteI didn't like this chapter at all, but I'm completely assured that Souma or Tachibana ending with the one of the main two is basically impossible. They're both pretty standard rivals and this was one of those commonly used "rival chapters". Most of all, the title and premise of this manga is of the sort that automatically predetermines the final pairing of the love story, since the "last game" is Yanagi trying to get Kujou to fall in love with him, which he determined he would do at the beginning of the story, since he had never defeated her in the ten years he knew her. Plus, in one of the early chapters, it pretty blatantly foreshadows that their last game will end when Yanagi puts a ring on Kujou's finger. Of course, the story is still a long ways from complete, but I don't think many readers at all see Souma as an actual threat.
DeleteIs that so..but like Redford, I think the main couple is a 'fixed couple'.
DeleteYa you both are correct. Im just ready for a bittersweet ending if there is one so it hat it wont feel like it came out of left field, witch I hope does not happen by the way. What I want to see is her and Yanagi together and how she handles the emotions of the ship.
DeleteHehe, I see. ^^
DeleteHopefully, we'll get to see more of that soon.
i feel bad for souma. i mean, he never even had any chance from the start since yanagi and kujou are bound to end up together. but i guess he has acted as some kind of stimuli (perhaps) to kujou realizing her feelings for yanagi. kujou is more likely to ponder over what is 'like' and FINALLY, maybe she will realize she likes yanagi. i think souma would also challenge yanagi by telling him that he has confessed to kujou and that he will not give up, or he will get frustrated and think "what the hell was wrong with me to have confessed to her?" and then probably think 'she looked so cute that i couldn't help myself' :P this confession is bound to heat things up...and souma is sure to end up acting as the cupid for yanagi and kujou<3 so in the end, good going souma ^_^
ReplyDeleteMost possibly, Souma is..to know that she likes Yanagi.
DeleteSouma might indeed challenge Yanagi..
It seems that the timing and mood was just right for a sudden confession..well, I think so, too..and, well, Souma is kind of acting like a cupid for them earlier on. ^^
I went like "Yesssssss. Not that Tachibana" when I saw the last few pages. To be honest up until this chapter I still couldn't imagine anyone liking that girl. Rather than seeking acceptance I think it's more like she's looking for a way to make herself "perfect" so that she can look down upon people. This chapter is sorta celebration for me, gimme slighest hope that Tachibana and Souma won't end up toghether.
ReplyDeleteHowever the topic about Souma disappointing confession aimed at a person like Kujou, who already has someone she likes liking her back... No judgement. I mean it's unfair to say, you don't stand chance, so just shut up, right? But a yes for an answer is definitely impossible for Kujou. Hmm. I can't see where it's going, which in short, interesting.
Hm..in a way, yes..and more like getting an approval after her makeover since her pride was really 'stepped on' by her 'first crush'.
DeleteUsually, they still confess even if knowing that someone likes someone else..to move on especially if rejected. Rather than, never be able to say it and think of 'what if'. Well, it seems that way in shoujo manga. I'm not too sure if Kujou would say yes..maybe like 'I like you as a friend' but then, if he is a 'like friend'..what is Yanagi? Maybe she'll do some evaluation over that..and maybe a bit of progress in their relationship before they return home from camp. ^^
I don't know why but I feel like I want souma to keep on liking kujou. Even though the his confession was badly timed, I still don't want him to go and like tachibana (...wonder why?). He too has to move on after being (obviously) rejected by kujou. But tachibana and souma somehow don't figure together. I mean they both will have their heart broken but, seriously...tachibana is kind of annoying. >.< it just doesn't feel right when the two heartbroken characters start going out.:P or I maybe that's just me -_-. thanks for uploading the summaries Kat1 With the manga having no advance whatsoever, you're the only one saving us here ^.^.
ReplyDeleteIs that so.. Well, the one thing that makes me think that they won't be together is because Souma might stay in the province later on and Tachibana isn't suited for it.
DeleteHehe..is that so. I think it is not a bad plotline ..two heartbroken characters start to going out together.. = from a new manga I'm reading, Nanoka no Kare.
Thanks for reading ^-^
ah~yeah! I've read it too and it's really kawai >.< ! it's a pity though that only 2 chapters have been revealed in english :'(
DeleteAh, so you also read that..ya, it's quite good so far ^^
Deletenice chapter, but after reading your synopsis why i feel a little paranoid, like souma will explain that he want a relationship about boyfriend and girlfriend, and kujou will agree because she want try something new or something like that (like joining astronomy club with fujimoto), then souma and kujou will start dating but with some restrictions (like no kiss, touch), that will make some drama in this manga prolong a little while (like yanagi jealous, yanagi depression, kujou will be aware her feeling to yanagi, kujou and souma break up, and bla bla bla). i hate it if this happen in the next chapter.
ReplyDeleteYa..ah..hopefully, it doesn't turn out that way. The series might lose its charm if it goes dramatic like that.
DeleteThanks for updating! It really helps since there are only raws up right now :L
ReplyDeleteILY!! <3 This chapter is so cute >.<
Thanks for reading and yup, it is, LILY ^-^
DeleteYey to Souma's courage of Confession ~! Finally ! He's an Official Yanagi's rival. But Kinda Disappointed though, cause there's no KujouxYanagi moments. Oh well .. I'm kinda excited of what would Kujou will answer to him. I bet she'll say the same answer again. ( about liking everyone haha ) She's so dense. Ah right, not soooo really dense -- cause she's starting to feel confusement toward Yanagi finally. Urgh. I'm so excited ~~
ReplyDeleteYup, DetectiveChin..he's officially a rival..I wonder how long it would last though.
DeleteIndeed..there is a big possibility for that. ^^
Dear Kat,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your summary.
Could you please give me the permission to re-translate your summary to Vietnamese ? (ex: Last Game, and Hibi Chouchou)
Some of my friends also love these story but they could not read English,
Of course, I will give credit for your blog and your name ^^~.
If you're agreed, that would be big helps and I approciate that for your hard work and helping us so much.
If not, its really sad for me, but i could understand the reason. If that happens, we still thank you for working
Thanks for reading this and hope i can get an answer
~Moon~, thanks for reading them and yes, you can re-translate my summaries. The only condition I have is the credits and that's it. ^^
DeleteGood luck with your summary ^-^
Thanks for your permission ^^~
DeleteYou're welcome, ~Moon~ ^-^
DeleteThanks a lot Kat! I just got into Last Game 2 weeks ago and I got I say I couldn't stop reading after chapter 25. So I desperately was trying to find if any new chapters were present. Luckily I found your translations! So thank you! As for the chapter I completely agree that the majority of focus around Souma is disappointing. Especially, since this chapter essentially killed the climax of Yanagi kissing Kujous forehead. Now it's likely the flow of the story will be completely changed. So it isn't necessarily a bad thing that this chapter had Souma have a confession. It adds somewhat of a OMFG WTF plot twist to the story.
ReplyDeleteThanks for reading ^-^
DeleteIndeed.
