Last Game [Side Story]

Young Yanagi has good looks, intelligence, and a good family financial situation until Kujou appeared and became a rival whom he couldn’t defeat. Yanagi couldn’t believe that such a rustic girl would.. Ever since elementary, Kujou defeated him in every battle. For example, Kujou got perfect scores in all the exams but Yanagi has some grades like 100, 99 and 98 in the exams. This would make Yanagi shout that he is the director’s son. Kujou replies so what, the one who is amazing is his father and not him. Thus, Yanagi incidentally thought of a revenge plan – make Kujou fall in love with him then he’ll viciously dump her. Bwahahaha. And, this story took place when they are in high school. Yanagi arrives home and his mother tells him that a certain Kujou called. At the living room, his mother says that she learned that Kujou was crying and trembling when her mother got into an accident that Yanagi even brought her to the hospital. Kujou called to thank her as Yanagi’s mother. She asked how come Yanagi didn’t tell her about this. Looking away, Yanagi says that it is not worthy enough to be mentioned. To his surprise, his mother had invited Kujou to their house. To his embarrassment, his sister asks if it is Yanagi’s girlfriend. Yanagi exclaims that she isn’t his girlfriend. Yanagi is aghast when his mother says that she heard that they bought a cellphone together, and they study together everyday. His sister comments that it turns out that he bought a cellphone for that girl. Yanagi wonders how much did Kujou told his family. Thinking that it is to capture Kujou then dump her, Yanagi says it isn’t so, that is to capture Kujou.. To Yanagi’s shock, his mother says that it is an unrequited love while his sister laughs that no way, Yanagi unexpectedly.. His mother says that Kujou is definitely a lovely cute and graceful girl. Yanagi says that she isn’t.. While sipping his drink, Yanagi thinks what’s cute about that unapproachable, plain, country bumpkin..but, her smile isn’t a bit cute.. To his surprise, his mother giggles and says that he’s blushing. Yanagi is in self-denial over that so he pretends not to hear that and attributes it to being hot in summer. His mother tells him that Kujou will visit on Sunday so fetch her at the station. On Sunday, Yanagi mentally complains over why he has to do this and his mother treats him like a kid. He blushes a bit that he hasn’t been able to talk to Kujou lately since she is going straight home these few days. <- It is because Kujou’s mother still cannot properly walk.

Just when he is screaming that it isn’t like he wanted to talk to Kujou, Kujou appears behind him. She asks him whom he is talking with, and he is always like this, his actions are suspicious. Yanagi scolds her not to always be quiet [and sneak up on him]. She tells him that she isn’t quiet and it is because he doesn’t look around. Kujou thanks him for inviting her. Wondering why does Kujou seem dazzling to him lately, Yanagi says that it is nothing, it is his mother who invited her, and it is a rare Sunday that is wasted, how annoying. To his shock, Kujou agrees and apologizes, she’ll leave early. Yanagi tells her that isn’t what he meant..it isn’t like he particularly hates her, and it is just because it is a bit embarrassing since his family misunderstood and thought that she is his ggggiiirrrlfriend and that’s it. Kujou turns to him to say that with this kind of weather, she washed the clothes and hang them to dry outside. Yanagi angrily tells her that she wasn’t listening to what he’s saying. Then, they arrive at his house. Kujou thinks that his house is big. As Yanagi goes in, his mother comes out and exclaims that she is the girl whom Yanagi bought a cellphone for. Yanagi’s sister mutters that his type is quite unexpected. Kujou bows and gives her greetings. Yanagi’s mother likes her since she has manners[/being respectful]. Yanagi’s sister thinks that Kujou is like a girl during Showa era, super unsophisticated. Then, Kujou gives a visiting gift – a cheesecake. At the dining table, Kujou apologizes that it is homemade. Yanagi’s mother says that it is okay and does she always make them. Kujou says yes. Yanagi asks his sister why she is here. His sister replies that it is because it’s very interesting. Yanagi’s mother asks if Kujou likes to eat desserts. She says no. Yanagi’s mother asks if she likes cheesecake. Kujou says no. Yanagi’s mother asks then how come she always makes them. Kujou tells her that her mother always buys cheesecakes before going home, so it increased her sugar intake and made her fat. It is pitiful that she has to endure not to eat what she likes so Kujou learned how to make it and let her eat a bit of it. This way, she can control the sugar intake and calories. While Yanagi is surprised that it is the first time he has seen Kujou talked a lot, his mother asks if Kujou really likes her mother.

Blushing a bit, Kujou says yes, she does. Yanagi’s mother is quite moved by this that she invites Kujou to stay for dinner. As Yanagi’s mother wonders if sushi is okay, Yanagi’s sister follows her to the other room. In the living room, Yanagi says that Kujou made his mother like her and if his mother took a fancy on someone, she would pester that person without end. Kujou says that it is quite fun[/happy]. She asks if she can look at the photographs [on the table]. Opening the air conditioner, Yanagi says that she can. While looking at the photographs, Kujou asks where his father is. Lying on the sofa, Yanagi says that he is quite busy so he’s not at home and he always comes home in the middle of the night. Kujou asks if that is quite lonely. He says that it is annoying but it doesn’t matter to him. Kujou smiles upon seeing a family picture with young Yanagi whose cheek is pinched by his sister. Kujou says that his family is quite nice. Yanagi says that his sister is cruel[/rough], rude and unreasonable, his mother is like that, and she saw that blank[/idiot]-looking father [from the photo] whose temperament is like a king so it isn’t that nice. Kujou says that they are very good family members and he should treasure them. This made Yanagi remember that Kujou’s father died in an accident when she was very young. This made Yanagi sit up and say, ya. Soon, Kujou is trembling over how delicious the sushi is. This made Yanagi’s sister tell him that Kujou hasn’t eaten food like this so Yanagi should accompany her more to eat good food. Yanagi exclaims, me!? Later on, Kujou thanks them for inviting her, the dinner and calling a taxi to.. Yanagi’s mother says that it is alright and she cannot let a girl go home alone. She tells Kujou that she had fun[/was very happy] and thank her for coming. Kujou says, she too. Kujou blushes and smiles to thank her. Yanagi’s mother is quite moved, Yanagi is surprised and Yanagi’s sister think that [she] is pure. After Kujou left, Yanagi’s mother tells him that she’ll support him. Blushing Yanagi exclaims that it isn’t like that. Yanagi’s sister teases him over his type of girl. Yanagi shouts for her to shut up. While walking [probably towards her house since she didn’t let the taxi drop her off exactly at her house or towards the gate of Yanagi’s house], Kujou is quite happy that she wants to quickly see her mother. At present, Yanagi’s mother tearfully says that in the end, Kujou didn’t come to their house again and if only Yanagi is a bit more successful.. College student Yanagi exclaims that he already told her that it isn’t like that, he still wasn’t dumped, not yet!! It turns out that his family has already considered Yanagi been dumped [by Kujou]. ^^;

Comment: Hehe, this is an amusing side story. It turns out that Kujou has gone to his house. Yanagi’s mother is cute and quite fond of Kujou so no problem on that. Unless his father also approves of Kujou, the only problem would be Yanagi and Kujou themselves =P It is interesting that it started out in wanting to dump Kujou and in the end, it is Yanagi fearing that he’ll be dumped. ^^; At that time, Yanagi is in denial while Kujou only thinks of her mother. And, fast forward, with no evident progress with Kujou, his mother believes that he was dumped. =P On a side note, in Lala Fantasy, the mangakas are asked what is their favorite childhood story.
