Mairunovich [Chapters 59-62]

[Free Talk: The things that I know from this series are based on the first few chapters up to the goukon/group date. I skipped the rest since I’ve read that Mairu got a ‘bad boyfriend’ and at some part, she’s back to square one. Then, I think she got interested in Tenyuu who turns out to think of her as a ‘daughter’. So now.. Edit: Ah, Sasa turns out to be Momo. ^^; I'll correct it in the next summary and thanks for the info, anonymous(2).]

Chapter 59: During winter break, Mairu went to Fukuoka where she met with her parents and grandmother after a long time. Then, she spent Christmas and Christmas Eve alone since her brother went on a date without telling her. On New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, her brother would order her to make New Year’s foods for him. On the first day of the year, everything is the same, with only Tenyuu sending her a New Year greeting email. She greets him back. Ever since that day [when they sleep together in one bed], there was not much contact between them because right now, even if she sees him, she doesn’t have the confidence that she can look at him like she usually did. She wonders why she cried on that day when she learned that Tenyuu already has someone he likes, and does that mean that she.. She pukes the chocolate[?] she’s drinking and thinks that it is impossible for it wasn’t easy for her to have a friend so ‘liking’/loving a friend is impossible. Then, there is this long haired girl complaining over her live-in partner[?] who is like a Chihuahua – annoying but, makes her feel satisfied since he’s quite nice to her. Meanwhile, at the studio, Tenyuu is lost in thought that Maehara, his boss, reprimands him for not repairing the cosmetics and skipping work before. Tenyuu protests that he has something to do but Maehara tells him to quit lying for he just doesn’t want to see Toriya Sasa. Tenyuu admits it. Maehara smacks him for running from work because of the past. Tenyuu apologizes. Maehara informs him he’s not allowed to run away since the next job will be with Sasa. After a pause, Tenyuu says okay. Then, a woman calls out to Maehara. In the car, Maehara is worried about Tenyuu since he became like that ever since he saw Sasa’s name on the schedule board. He wonders what Sasa did to Tenyuu. Even if he seems mature at work, he is still a 17 years old. He wonders what thing can help prop him up on that day so that the work would go smoothly. Then, he realizes something. He calls up Mairu and asks if she is free on the day after tomorrow to do some errands during the photo shoot. Mairu is nervous for she’ll see Tenyuu. Maehara says that lately, Tenyuu isn’t in a good mood and he hopes that with a friend on the set, he would be in high spirits. Realizing that she didn’t know this [/he was depressed], Mairu agrees to go for it can help Tenyuu out because they are friends. Mairu arrives and goes to the set. She feels uneasy upon seeing the dazzling models so she quickly hides in a storage room. She felt quite comfortable there but then, she must go to work. Someone calls out if there’s someone there. Realizing the someone is inside, Mairu apologizes for just coming in because the world outside the room is quite dazzling, but she’ll quickly go out. The guy laughs and agrees that this place is comparatively peaceful. Mairu is shock for the guy is beautiful and looks very handsome. She asks him if he’s a model. The guy laughs and asks how can that be, but then, he’s quite happy that she said that, thanks.

Mairu had a cold sweat for this place is like a dazzling jewel box. He introduces himself as the assistant of photographer Toriya Sasa. Mairu says that she seems to have heard of her. He tells her that Sasa is quite famous, a photographer of Paris fashion models and quite professional though that was 5 years ago. Mairu says that’s amazing. Sparkling, the guy says that’s right, she’s amazing, her photographs are really good and he respects her so as her assistant, he wants to learn while at her side. Mairu finds him quite dazzling and it seems that he’s a super candid good person. Holding out his hand, he apologizes for not introducing himself, he’s Mochitsuki Fuyu [望月冬] and it’s ‘Fuyu’ because he was born on a ‘winter’ day, such a casual way of naming him. Shaking his hand, Mairu introduces herself. He asks her why she is here. She tells him that he’s going to help with Maehara regarding some errands. Fuyu says that he also usually works with that person and they will be in the same photo shoot. Mairu says is that so, then does he know Kumada Tenyuu, he’s her friend. This made Fuyu let go of her hand. Fuyu becomes dark and says that he’s Tenyuu’s friend, how horrible, he really hates that guy. [I think there is a mistake here because] Fuyu says that luckily he didn’t shake her hand for his hand would become dirty since she’s Tenyuu’s friend. This puzzles Mairu for where did that sparkling guy went. Mairu immediately protests over why he is saying that about Tenyuu when he’s quite a good person. Fuyu complains that it is because Tenyuu is more popular than him when obviously, he’s more handsome. Kicking a box, Fuyu complains over how the people on the set kept on flattering and praising Tenyuu just upon meeting him once when he is obviously more like a Japanese male lead, what’s up with that, it puts him in a bad mood. He also hates how Tenyuu is hiding his fox tail pretending to be pure and he also hates his delicateness[/finicky]. Fuyu thinks that Tenyuu must have all sorts of hardship [at work] and she’ll be working with this guy. Mairu plans to go out of the room since she doesn’t want to stay in the same place with someone who badmouths Tenyuu. Then, Fuyu says that what he really hates is Tenyuu laid a hand on his Sasa-san. Mairu looks surprised and glances back at him. Fuyu asks if she doesn’t know, when she’s obviously a close friend. Meanwhile, Tenyuu has arrived at work. He is trying to get a hold of himself and not be bothered about the past like what his boss said, so seeing that person, it is already..nothing much.. Then, he overhears the others saying that Sasa is inside checking the equipment. He goes inside. Sitting on top of a ladder, Sasa greets him. Tenyuu looks teary-eyed. Fuyu asks Mairu if she wants to hear those two’s story.

Chapter 60: 15 years old, summer. Tenyuu sees a book entitled Machinery which was lent to his brother who is getting ready to secretly go out with some girl. He became infatuated with the book which has Sasa’s photographs with Maehara’s makeup on the models. So, he started working for Maehara. Apparently, he lied that he was 18 years old. One time, they have a problem with a famous model who is having a bad temper over not liking Sasa as her photographer. Maehara asks Tenyuu to look for her since she didn’t come back after going to the toilet. This is already the fourth time he has been working with Sasa and those previous times went smoothly. Tenyuu finds Sasa in a room who is muttering that it is her fault and she’s hitting the wall. Tenyuu knocks and asks if she is okay. Sasa says that she is. She apologizes and prepares to head back to where Maehara was. Tenyuu tells her that it wasn’t her fault so there’s no need to apologize to that model. After looking surprised, Sasa says ya, but she is still at fault for the mood on the set is part of her work. Tenyuu suddenly blurts out that he likes her photographs. Sasa happily thanks him. As Sasa apologizes to the model, things went out smoothly. There are many times when they worked together until Sasa starts calling him ‘Tenyuu’ [<- means that they are close]. Then, there are times when Sasa would tease him by drawing on his face while he was sleeping. Tenyuu gradually understands Sasa more, that she likes to tease people and she smiles like an idiot.

Then, there are times when Sasa is serious on the phone. Maehara tells Tenyuu that even if she is a good person, she couldn’t choose [her] men. Apparently, Maehara’s husband is never satisfied[/fickle]. 16 years old Summer. Maehara asks Tenyuu to deliver something to Sasa’s place. He finds her crying so he asks if it is her husband. She never cried about work or any other problems. Tenyuu tells her to divorce him. Sasa tells him not to mind her. Tenyuu insists that she divorce. Sasa exclaims that she couldn’t because she doesn’t want to be alone. Tenyuu exclaims that there’s him, he’ll be at her side. Then, he hugs her. Later on, they are talking about eloping somewhere. Sasa tells him that she will leave a letter to her husband and get ready to leave. The two of them would go somewhere far away and with Tenyuu, she definitely won’t be lonely. They kiss. And, [I think that was] Fuyu saw them together. Tenyuu leaves a letter to his parents and rides a bicycle with a huge bag. He arrives at her place to find it completely empty. Maehara tells Tenyuu that Sasa went to the province with her husband and temporarily quit working. He was told by Sasa not to inform Tenyuu of her address. End flashback. Tenyuu spent a lot of time to forget about her and just when he thinks that he finally has forgotten everything about that time, however.. Sasa smiles at Tenyuu and says that it has been a long time. Looking away, Tenyuu greets her back then he looks surprised. He looks at her again and asks where her [wedding] ring is. She smiles and says that she has divorced.

Chapter 61: After Mairu looks surprised upon knowing this, Fuyu tells her that Sasa has already chosen her ex-husband and gave up on Tenyuu but this time around, she divorced to come back to this place. It doesn’t matter to him [Fuyu] if those two are together again but as her assistant, he is quite distressed that work had stopped so for this reason, he thinks that Tenyuu is a hindrance, aside from him being too popular. Mairu is quite stunned to know of Tenyuu’s past. She freaks out that she heard this from someone else and not from the person himself. She’s an idiot for losing to curiosity. Fuyu tells her that doesn’t matter. The door suddenly opens. It is Ayano who asks what’s up with that just now. Fuyu laughs and says that she’s been eavesdropping, and who is she. Mairu asks why she is here. Ayano says that she is visiting to learn from the shooting of an artist senpai because lately she is going to an artist company[business office]. Ayano asks where is this Sasa-person is. Fuyu says 12-a studio. Ayano rushes off to the place with Mairu going with her. Then, they see Tenyuu looking at Sasa from the ladder. Mairu thinks that perhaps, Tenyuu still likes that person now. Smiling Tenyuu tells Sasa that even if it is regretful that she divorced but he’s very happy that she came back because he really respects her as a photographer. He bows and greets her yoroshiku[/I’m under your care] and walks away. Then, he sees the two girls and asks why they are there. While Mairu feels relived and tells Tenyuu why she is there, Fuyu is looking at her. Soon, Rumi the model has arrived. She apologizes for being late. Mairu freaks out for apparently Tenyuu used Mairu as a fake girlfriend to ward Rumi away before. Mairu freaks out over this and Tenyuu is tense. Mairu is relieved that Rumi didn’t recognize her when Rumi asks her to support her new CD. Rumi hugs Sasa and exclaims over her delight that Sasa would be the one taking her picture. This made Mairu think that this ‘Sasa-san’ is not only beautiful but totally capable. As Rumi goes to put some make-up on, Fuyu asks Mairu, “Maimai, do you like Tenyuu?” After looking surprised over the nickname, Mairu denies it and asks why he is asking so suddenly, didn’t she say that they are only friends. Fuyu just says, ya.. At the make-up room, Rumi is asking Tenyuu about his girlfriend and it would be nice if they break up. Then, Ayano comes in for a visit-study. Using disguised words, Rumi pretty much told Ayano that she’s ‘unsophisticated[/rustic]’ that made Ayano furious and wants to be more popular than Rumi.

Mairu comes back with the snacks for everyone. While Mairu is distributing the snacks, the props people got a problem with the mascot costume since it is too small that a boy couldn’t wear it. Then, they call out Mairu. After Rumi is made up, she exclaims in delight over how cute the mushroom mascot is. The mushroom mascot is surrounded by candies. Rumi hugs it and says that it is so cute. Moving the Mushroom’s hand, Mairu thinks that it is so hot inside and she couldn’t breathe. While Tenyuu is speechless over it, Fuyu tells him that Maimai is inside. He asks, Maimai..? He tells him, Mairu-chan, because the props people asked her and her reaction is quite stupid [<- as the mushroom?]. Tenyuu asks since when did their relationship become good. Looking surprised, Fuyu says that they just know each other and could it be that he doesn’t call her Maimai, also, it is just a simple nickname so there is no need get his permission. Tenyuu says that actually, he’s thinking that it’s great that their relationship is good..Natsu [summer]. This made Fuyu furious and want to kill him for that [<- calling him ‘summer’]. But, Sasa is already ordering Fuyu to put the reflector board at the side so Fuyu quickly leaves. Tenyuu looks at Sasa then bows his head with folded arms. Inside, Mairu is amazed over how good Rumi and Sasa are with their work that she felt that she has to be also dazzling as the mushroom. She kept on moving her hand but was told by Sasa not to move her hand too much. Soon, the shooting is finished. Rumi left. Tenyuu gives a thumbs up to Mairu. Mairu is happy over this until she sees Sasa putting her hand on Tenyuu’s shoulder. The props guy tells Mairu to bring the costume to storage 1. Mairu quickly leaves and wonders if she’s running away. She felt that she couldn’t stay there but if Tenyuu still likes Sasa, she obviously should support him like how he usually supports her. She keeps on thinking that it is because they are friends. She loses her balance but someone holds her up. It is Fuyu who asks why she looks disappointed when he obviously helped her, and was she thinking of someone else who’ll chase after her. Mairu thinks that it was always Tenyuu who helps her when she’s in trouble but right now.. Fuyu says that even if he is an outsider but her feelings are obvious earlier on. He doesn’t know why she suddenly chose to run away but why is she stubborn in not wanting to admit it. Recalling her past loves, teary-eyed Mairu says that it is because her past loves have already ended and if she loses Tenyuu, she absolutely couldn’t bear it.

Chapter 62: After Mairu said that, she is stunned that she’s actually thinking that. Then, a couple of people are passing by. Fuyu quickly pulls her to him. After the two passes by and says that the mushroom is cute, Fuyu lets her go. Mairu realizes that he helped cover her up since her eyes are red from crying. After a pause, Fuyu tells her to take off the mascot suit and he’ll help her put it aside since she’ll fall if she runs while wearing it. Mairu apologizes for that, and thanks him. While she is getting out of the outfit, Fuyu asks for the cellphone. Puzzled Mairu asks if [the cellphone he’s asking for] is hers. He tells her if it isn’t hers, then whose. She gives him her cellphone. He takes it and uses the infrared. Then, Mairu catches her cellphone when Fuyu tosses it back. He tells her that he’ll email her so be deeply grateful and look at it. Then, he leaves with the mushroom suit. Mairu looks at her cellphone and it has Fuyu’s contact number and email. Mairu is speechless for his nickname is ‘Fumin’. She wonders what’s up with that guy. At home, Mairu is lying down on the bed with her feet on the wall. After that time, she got her payment. They were tidying things up and everyone was busy so she wasn’t able to talk with Tenyuu. Sitting up, she wonders what’s up with her lately since how she feels towards Tenyuu is quite strange then, she would immediately cry and her eyes would become red. She decides that she has to sort herself out by writing down her thoughts. She writes: she is uneasy when she knew that Tenyuu likes someone else, her heart beats fast like a deer [about to be hit by a car] when they slept together in the same bed, and she’s happy that he helped at the barbecue store. Could this be that she gradually likes Tenyuu? Mairu goes into shock for it turns out to be like that, she totally didn’t notice until now, she’s an idiot. And, for her to easily say that today to Fuyu [about not wanting to lose Tenyuu], is already proof that she likes Tenyuu. Sitting on the floor, she tries to calm herself down for friendship is over. So, if according to this, she would LIKE Tenyuu WITHOUT ANY INHIBITIONS, what would she do.. From gradually like -> confess to him -> rejected by him -> things become awkward and gradually drift apart, friendship destroyed. Mairu goes into shock. She decides to go for some sort of miracle scenario = Miraculously, he agreed for them to go steady -> Because of her, he dumped her -> things become awkward and gradually drift apart, no more interaction. Mairu goes into shock again for no matter which side, she can only think of a tragic[/miserable] future. She absolutely doesn’t want things to be awkward with Tenyuu and for her, this current relationship is totally okay and she is already totally HAPPY. Mairu has decided that she absolutely shouldn’t let herself LIKE HIM WITHOUT ANY INHIBITIONS. Then, her cellphone vibrates. It is Fuyu’s email, asking if she’s free this coming Sunday. Wondering why, Mairu answers that she is free. He replies, “Let’s go on a date♡” This scared Mairu that she trembles and wonders why her.

He emails again that they are going to meet at so-so station at 3pm and she wear something pretty. “Don’t embarrass me♡” Mairu is speechless that he put a heart there. She wonders why he is inviting her and that guy ought to be very popular. But then, this is an opportunity for her to stop from always thinking of Tenyuu. She emails Fuyu back that even if she doesn’t have confidence in dressing up pretty but she will do her best. She is all fired up for the date so that she won’t LIKE Tenyuu WITHOUT ANY INHIBITIONS, she must start a new love. It is Sunday and Mairu is quite nervous if her outfit is okay. Fuyu greets her and says that she’s late by 5 minutes. He says that it’s cold today. Mairu blushes for in the end, he’s quite cool and this person unexpectedly asks her out. She becomes gloomy when Fuyu says that actually, today isn’t a date. He starts laughing for someone like her who’s short and fat like a mushroom girl, he absolutely won’t invite her. And also, he fundamentally doesn’t take the initiative to invite a girl for he is always the one invited out. Mairu gloomily asks then what’s up with today. Noticing something, Fuyu immediately pulls Mairu down the bushes. Mairu exclaims what he is doing. Fuyu tells her to look over there. She sees Sasa meeting up with Tenyuu. Fuyu tells her that it seems that Sasa invited him and according to his investigation, it seems that Tenyuu doesn’t particularly wanted to go. He had eavesdropped on Sasa when she was on the phone. Mairu nervously thinks that the feeling Sasa gives had changed -she curled her hair, wearing feminine clothes- totally different from work that it feels that she’s serious. Fuyu tells her that they’re leaving so okay, they are going to follow them. Mairu asks him why he specially went to do this thing. She wonders what he is thinking for particularly calling her out for this. Slightly bowing his head down, Fuyu says that wasn’t he the one who provoked her to cry before. Looking away, he tells her that in each person’s heart, there is something hidden that people doesn’t want to talk about and apparently, he had carelessly hurt her so she can treat this as atonement. “It seems that Maimai-chan, you are very concerned about the thing between Tenyuu and Sasa-san. I want to redeem a bit..” Thinking that he isn’t as insensitive as she imagined and he might be a good person, Mairu says about that, actually, there’s no need to mind it. Then, Fuyu sticks out his tongue and says that he’s deceiving her for why would he do it with that kind of reason. To Mairu’s shock, Fuyu says that regarding their love life, he is actually very interested and that’s all there is to it. He grabs her hand and says okay, let’s go, Maimai-chan. “We cannot lose them!!” Aghast Mairu thinks, this..this guy.

Comment: And, a new character is introduced and I’m interested in him so I’ve started summarizing this. Fuyu seems to be a ‘hot-cold’ type of guy that it is hard to guess if he is actually a good guy or not. He must be interested in her enough to call her by a nickname, cover up her crying from the passers-by, give his contact number, and invite her for a date..even if he claims that there is a different motive for it which is to spy on Tenyuu and Sasa. What Sasa did is really awful and that is something very hard to forget especially if she was his first love. It does take courage to face Sasa again even if it is just for work. Apparently, Sasa wants to win him back. Thankfully, Fuyu is there to soften the impending heartbreak for Mairu. ^^ Scans by 夜莺工作室
