Kyou no Kira-kun [Chapter 24]

Narration: “Kira-kun has come back.” At the train, Nino is teary-eyed when Kira hugged her from behind. At Nino’s room that night, Nino exclaims that in the end, it is thanks to Yabe. Scratching his head, Kira says yes and it seems that his distance with him has decreased. While Sensei quietly listens, Kira says that even if he isn’t quite used to it but they’ve set a date for him to go to Yabe’s house next time to see the kitty. Nino exclaims that is great and she should also thank Yabe. Kira looks a bit awkward and asks why Nino is facing away from him while talking with him just now. Sensei thinks that he finally noticed it. Kira says that he knows that she’s angry and that is inevitable. “I’m truly sorry for gone missing on my own.” Somewhat sad Nino looks at him and says that she isn’t angry at all, but rather, she’s very happy. “But I’m very worried whether because I can or cannot understand your feelings, that always until now, I’ve made it very difficult for you..” Sensei decides to leave the two alone so he flies out of the room. Kira says that she’s wrong, he the one who’s very stupid since obviously, when the two of them are apart, it would hurt more. “In the end, if not together, [I] won’t know the meaning of living on. From today on, it is possible that difficult things would happen. When that time comes, I will definitely tell you so it will be okay.” Nino blushes and says okay. Kira says, “By the way, right now, I’m enduring more than you, Nino! She happily says what nonsense is that. Kira happily hugs her back and says, “Master, *doggie ears* please give me a little reward. Woof Woof.” Just when they are about to kiss, the door opens and Nino’s father comes in. Holding a small bag, he says, “Nino, I’m back. I bought you a souvenir..” The couple is shock. Nino’s father freezes then his glasses crack. [<- joke shock effect] Soon, everyone is silent while they are in the living room. Sensei thinks that it turns out that the father still didn’t know and it won’t be easy to pacify him. Cosplaying as a cabin attendant, Nino’s mother says that is her fault because it just so happen that he was away on a business trip when Kira made that request [/kind of marriage proposal] so she wasn’t able to mention it. Pushing up his glasses, Nino’s father says that he won’t allow it. “I won’t allow the two of you to go steady.” While Kira and Nino look surprise, Nino’s mother tearfully calls her husband. Nino is surprised when Kira asks if it is because he’ll inevitably die one day. Nino’s father says, yes because he is her father so he won’t allow something[/event] that would hurt her. Nino protests that even so, she wants to be with Kira. Her father says no. Kira says that he is right.

Kowtowing [dogeza] to Nino’s father, Kira says, “but, I beg of you. We absolutely will not give up on being together just because of this bit of hindrance.” Nino is surprised by this. Then, she also kowtows to her father, and says, “Please, recognize us.” Nino’s mother and Sensei also plead for Nino’s father to accept them. Nino’s father sighs and says that from his point of view, this isn’t that easy. “I cannot possibly easily agree.” Nino’s mother cries and apologizes for hiding it from him. He pats her head and tells her that it is okay. Sensei looks thoughtful. The next day, at his room, Yabe learns from Kira that Nino’s father opposes their relationship. Playing with Arashi [the cat], Kira says that it is also inevitable and they can only persistently beg him. Then, Kira happily smiles at Arashi saying that it is cute and it has been a long time. Yabe blushes for it’s so cute. Then, Kira asks what Yabe is doing with that cellphone which he just used to take pictures with. While he’s actually excited that Kira is in his room, Yabe tells Kira not to be mistaken for it isn’t like he is waiting for an opportunity [to take a picture and use it] for a display screen but he’s actually just taking a picture of Arashi. After Kira looks doubtful about that, he thanks Yabe and said that he forgot to tell him that yesterday at the cemetery. “Thank you for always being concerned about me.” This made surprised Yabe blush. He tells Kira that he was sincere with what he told him and from start to end, he never mentioned about giving up on Nino. Kira looks surprised. Yabe continues to say that even if at that time, he wanted to take advantage of Kira’s issue but he sincerely won’t give up like this. “So, you also absolutely shouldn’t give up. If not, be careful or I’ll snatch her away from your side.” Kira looks surprised. Yabe looks away and wonders if he said too much. Pulling up the sides of his hair, Kira laughs and says that’s right and it seems that he should boost up his morale and continue to do his best. Yabe is surprised when Kira is smiling at him. Kira asks Yabe if he can help him a bit. Yabe looks tense. At a restaurant, Rei eats while looking at listless Nino. Rei says that even if she knows why Nino is depressed but if she isn’t going to eat that cake, she’ll eat it. Snapping out of it, Nino apologizes for obviously this is the first time they meet outside. Rei says that she believes that her father would definitely agree after a time and anyway, he also cannot break them up. Nino counters that his father is objecting because he has already seen the past her who was weak and lonely after being attacked[/bullied]. To Nino’s surprise, Rei clicks her tongue. Rei asks her if the current Nino is the same as the past. “Even if Yuiji is no longer around, you also won’t be all alone by yourself again, right?”

Nino looks surprised. Rei starts stabbing the plate with her fork and unhappily asks if she’s the only one who thinks that way. Nino exclaims no. Hyakuta says that it is the first time for four of them to meet together. Nino stands up and asks if she can borrow their time for a while. In front of the house, Nino introduces her female friends to her parents. The girls greet the parents back. Nino’s mother invites them inside for some tea. Nino calls out to her father and says that if she didn’t meet Kira, it is impossible right now for her to be with these three people. “It is something that I’ve always longed for. *hugs her 3 friends* I’ve made precious friends. Ah, I don’t know what these two think though so I’m a bit uneasy.” This surprise Hyakuta and Ikigoma that they exclaim if that needs to be said when it is very obvious that they are friends. Nino smiles and says that’s great. Pointing to herself, Rei adds that the one who has the best relationship with Nino is her. Nino laughs and says that’s right. While Ikigoma sweatdrops, Hyakuta says that she’ll steal that position from her one day. Snapping out of it, Nino tries to tell her father that it is because of Kira that.. Just when Sensei thinks that is not bad, he notices someone. Kira calls out to Nino and tells her to let him say the rest. Nino is surprised to see short-haired Kira. Nino freaks out about his hair. Hyakuta mutters that the hero has arrived. Ikigoma wonders if he’s rebelling. While Nino’s father is surprised, Kira says that he got Yabe to cut his hair and there’s no special meaning to it, he is just boosting up his morale. Putting his arm around Nino, Kira tells Nino’s father, “Uncle, after I and Nino met, we’ve experience a feeling that we have not experienced throughout our lives. That is ‘happiness’. You might think that I’m exaggerating but I sincerely feel that it is truly great that Nino was born into this world. So, even if you won’t recognize us, I will always love Nino.” Hyakuta and Ikigoma are moved by that while Rei is deadpan. Nino is also touched. Nino’s father pushes up his glasses and tells Nino that he wants to talk alone with Kira. At the playground, Kira looks tense as Nino’s father sits beside him on the bench. While Nino’s father is drinking from a can of beverage, Kira mentally apologizes to his father for this might escalate to Okamura family vs Kira family. Nino’s father calls out to him that Kira exclaims, yes!! Nino’s father says that it might be somewhat sudden but doesn’t he think that Nino’s name is very strange. Sweatdropping, Kira says a little bit.

Nino’s father says that it is a French word. “At one aspect it is because mama [<- I think his wife] has French lineage and the other aspect is, it sounded cute. Besides that, it [Ninon] has the meaning of ‘woven cloth’. *Flashback: While carrying baby Nino, her father said that afterwards, she is going to meet a lot of people and between them, it will be like the threads of a tightly woven cloth.* I have that kind of hope when I gave [her] that name. *pause* But as you already know, she became a shut-in. At the start of that period, it was really serious. *scene of Nino’s parents try to coax young Nino out from under the table* We’ve used a lot of effort to guide her bit by bit. Even if she graduated from junior high and got into high school, her nature of not wanting to easily invest into feelings [with friends, etc] has not changed. Just when I’m fairly worried about this, you’ve appeared and all of a sudden, changed Nino. *Kira looks surprised* I know that it is all thanks to you. *Flashback: While eating dinner, Nino happily tells her parents that she joined the cultural festival this time and right now, she can normally talk with her classmates.* She happily informed that to us and it really startled us. Even if the love between you two bears a grim challenge against fate but from the looks of things, it’s my faith that isn’t enough. *stands up* So, I’m saying, thank you for creating this bond with her. *bows* I’ll leave Nino up to you.” Kira notices a tear under the eye of Nino’s father. As a tear also forms on his eye, Kira replies, “Okay.” Narration: “December 23th. In the end, I don’t know what papa and Kira-kun talked about.” In Nino’s room, Nino says that it is really great that they are recognized. Kira says yes. Sensei comments that those girls are very nice and properly treat them to some tea next time. Taking out an envelope from his pocket, Kira says that in the end, her father handed over a very small envelope to him and told him, ‘this is very important’. While puzzled Sensei looks over, Nino asks what it is. Kira opens the envelope. To his shock, it is a condom. Blushing Kira nervously shouts that it is nothing at all. Downstairs, Nino’s mother is puzzled over Kira’s outburst while her husband is smiling. Narration: “But, it seems that compared to Kira-kun, Papa is one step ahead of him.”

Comment: This is a nice ‘getting the approval of the father’ chapter ^^ After the brief separation, it seems that they’ve gotten closer and stronger for each other. It is really awkward when a parent interrupts a lovey-dovey. Well, they did say some really nice stuff regarding each other to get the approval. And, they aren’t alone anymore for they have friends who help them out. Yabe is cheering Kira in his own way and he is really gaga over Kira. ^^; What Rei mentioned was a lightbulb moment for Nino and it helped her in some way in dispelling her father’s worries. I wonder if the two friends would begrudge Nino later on that she didn’t tell them about Kira’s health condition when they are friends, but then, I think these two will be understanding, so it will be okay when they find out about it. Kira’s haircut somewhat makes him look younger. ^^; Hm..did he have those ear piercings ever since before or rather, wore earrings but were hidden by his hair? Anyway, it is great that even if hesitations, apprehensions and everything, Nino’s father recognizes them especially since he knows what kind of positive effect Kira had on Nino. He must have trust and approve of Kira enough to give him a condom =P That is really something rare for a father to do. Hehe, I wonder if it would ever get used. ^^; Well, hopefully, the next chapter has some really nice lovey-dovey since it should be Christmas Eve which is a romantic day for lovers in Japan and the mangaka most probably won’t skip that. ^^ Scans by 离境汉化组
