Hirunaka No Ryuusei [Chapter 54]

At a donut shop, Nana complains that it is obviously Sunday but it’s boring if she doesn’t go to work and it gives her a feeling of [her] youth is instantly wasted. Monika says that Nana is going to have enough money soon for the guitar that she wants to buy. Nana corrects her that it is a driver/navigator. While Monika eats her donut, Nana asks if that the goukon [group date] that they’ve set up before is for Suzume. Monika says yes, and isn’t it good if they can cheer her up. Nana comments that in the end, it wasn’t of help. They both wonder what kind of person would suit Suzume. Nana sparklingly says how about a bit mature guy who’ll hold hands like this. Monika says that is because she has an ‘uncle/daddy complex’. [<- likes older man] She tells Nana that she thinks that a same age guy is not bad and someone did say that it is good for Suzume to maintain her original self like this. Nana asks if Monika is complacent because she is also going steady with someone in the same year as she is. Flustered Monika denies it. Nana concludes the conversation that as someone involved with Suzume, she herself [<- seems to be referring to Suzume] is also not sure as to what kind of person suits her. Back at Tsukiji Market, Suzume walks while holding on the back hem of Mamura’s jacket. Suzume thinks that just now, he started to match her slow walking pace. “For him to invite me today like this, it is also definitely to cheer me up. Then, Suzume happily exclaims for Mamura to quickly come. Mamura tells her to wait, is she like a strolling dog.

Soon, Mamura joins happy Suzume in taste-testing at one store, two store, and at the third, Mamura is no longer eating. Suzume happily thinks that Tsukiji is super amazing!! Then, they meet up with Mamura’s father and Daichi. Mamura is gloomy over being forced to carry a lot of things. Also carrying some bags, Suzume greets the two. Mamura’s father comments that she bought a lot and does she want him to help her. Suzume happily says that it is alright, [and] because she is too happy that she carelessly bought a lot. Mamura’s father says that’s great and they should go. Daichi is excited. At a sushi store, Suzume and Daichi drool over the sushi menu. Mamura’s father tells them to order what they like to eat. Standing up, Mamura says that he’s order is mantis shrimp and any fish that has shiny skin. Suzume asks where he is going. He tells her the toilet. Suzume thinks that with that order, Mamura is really like a simple [/unsophisticated] child and he likes kelp [kombu] stuffing in the onigiri [rice balls]. Mamura’s father calls out to Suzume and thanks her for coming today. “Actually, I’m more or less a bit of worry about that child who never treated the opposite sex nicely and all the more he has that DEFECT [blush when touched] but, ever since he got to know you, Yosano-chan, he gradually was also able to normally interact with other girls and I’m really happy about that. Mamura comes in and asks what they are talking about. Suzume and Mamura’s father nervously say that it is nothing.

Later on, standing in front of a taxi, Suzume thanks them for today and sorry for making them letting her off here. Mamura’s father asks if it is really okay not to drop her off at her house’s door. Suzume says yes, and she cannot explain clearly how to go there. Just when Suzume is bidding them goodbye, Mamura asks if he can borrow her cellphone. She gives it to him and he types something in it. Then, he returns it and bids her goodbye. She looks at her cellphone and notices that Mamura had put in his contact number and email on her phone. Suzume smiles and thinks that today, she is truly super happy. In her room, Suzume thinks that she ate too much that she can only eat water spinach for the time being. Then, her phone rings. It is Mamura so she answers it. Mamura asks if she’s already at home. Suzume says yes, she just arrived. She asks about him and he tells her that he has already arrived [home]. Thinking that he is worried about her, Suzume tells him that she really ate a lot today that her stomach doesn’t feel a bit okay. Mamura lets out a laugh and says he told her so. Suzume thinks that he laughed just now. Mamura says, “—by the way.” While lying in the bed, puzzled Suzume says, “Yes. What is it??” Sitting on the bed, Mamura continues, “—I don’t think that way.” Suzume asks, “Ha? What are you referring to?” Pause. Mamura says, “About not having an interest towards you, I don’t think that way.” Suzume looks surprised. After another pause, Mamura bids her goodbye and hangs up the phone. Still sitting on the bed, Mamura’s ears are really red. Suzume puts her cellphone on the bed and she sits up. She speechlessly blushes and recalls Nana telling her before, “Are you ready[/prepared]? Right, for the next [romantic] love.”

Comment: The rival seems to have given up and the girl is ready enough to go on a goukon, so, as a suitor, what does one do? Charge! =P It seems that contrary to what Suzume thinks, the family birthday gathering is also for Mamura to get closer to her on his birthday because she seems to think that it is just to cheer her up. Suzume might not have noticed it but I’m sure Mamura’s father did because of all the people Mamura can invite, it is a girl and she’s all alone. Also, it is with his family, so she isn’t just an ordinary female friend. Mamura’s father is already heavily hinting things to Suzume but I guess because of Mamura’s typical reaction towards her, she didn’t think that he’s interested in her. I guess she never thought that he doesn’t do the usual things he has been doing to/for her to other girls. Apparently, Suzume is starting to become conscious that Mamura is always with her. In this chapter, even if Mamura is a bit gloomy about things, he tagged along with her shopping and let her have lots of fun. It makes me wonder if Mamura specifically chose this place to eat for his birthday since Suzume who loves to eat/eat seafood. Hehe, it turns out that Mamura has partly overheard their conversation that he called to correct Suzume’s misunderstanding about that. Things might be a bit awkward when they meet again and I wonder if the others would notice it since I think these two aren’t good in hiding their feelings. So, is falling in love about compatibility..perhaps a bit, since it is the start of attraction. Of course, there also has to be that ‘special feeling’ towards that someone who treats one special ^^ Well, in the case of Yuyuka. =P I’m not sure if things will progress further with Mamura. I was right about Mamura giving his contact information but I’m surprised that Shishio didn’t appear at all.
