Miseinen Dakedo Kodomo Janai [Chapter 17]

After a month of marriage, this is the first night Karin is spending apart from Nao but how come she feels uneasy and lonely in the room where she had always lived. She thinks that if she calls him, Nao would definitely ask her why she is calling about being lonely, and he would get angry. Nevertheless, Karin wanted to hear this voice so she tries calling him. She blushes when Nao admitted to her that he is a bit lonely, too. She wonders it is because she isn’t around that he’s lonely. To Nao’s surprise, Karin says that she’ll immediately go there. Nao refuses for it is already late so it’s dangerous. Karin says that it is okay, she’ll get the car to drive her there. Recalling his promise to Isuzu that Isuzu won’t threaten Karin and in return, he’ll live separately from Kain, Nao lies by telling Karin that the hot water in the bathroom is broke so for the meantime, she’ll live in her main house, and that way, they won’t have to worry about that Zuzu forcefully taking her away. Karin suggests that Nao come and live at the main house. He tells her that he has club activity on the weekends so he can take a shower at the activity room. Freaking out that they would really live separately, Karin exclaims for him not to have a response for every single thing. He tells her that he’ll contact her again after the bathroom is fixed. Karin says okay. Then, Nao asks if she was the one who left that lunch food on his table. Karin happily says yes, and it is his favorite. Nao asks when did he say that, and don’t do that thing again for it would be a bit troublesome for him. Karin explains that it is because she wants him to have a change of mood and that is the only thing she can think of. Nao asks why, he isn’t angry. Karin says that he is definitely angry when the wedding was exposed to Isuzu and he is acting weird this morning. Nao denies it. It turns out that Nao couldn’t tell Karin that he is unhappy about Karin and her male childhood friend tickling each other. Nao confirms with Karin if Isuzu found out about it because he hired a detective to investigate it on his own. Karin is happy that Nao didn’t have any suspicion that she was the one who told Isuzu because Nao believes that she won’t do that kind of thing. To her delight, Nao says that even if it is late, he wants to thank her for the sandwich which was delicious. Karin is excited and exclaims of course, it is delicious because she made it. Nao also admits that actually the food that she cooks are very delicious and he even anticipate it a bit since she usually gives him his share. “Sorry for causing you trouble. ..thank you. Then, *blush* good night.” Karin bids him good night, too.

After hanging up the phone, Karin couldn’t believe that Nao said things that would make her happy and actually, it seems that Nao is acting very strange. After hanging up the phone, Nao recalls Isuzu asking if he can erase the divorce record, then he [Nao] can immediately divorce, right? Back in school, it is the third day of the sports assembly’s finals. [<- I don’t know if it is a typo but actually, it is written as Autumn Assembly] It is 9:55 am and the schedule for the day’s sports competition is listed on the blackboard. While their classmates are chatting/playing console games to pass the time, Yuuya [勇哉; Nao’s short friend] whines that it is boring for they got eliminated because Nao was spacing out at that time when they should have been in the baseball finals. Nao tells him that he’s annoying. A teacher enters the classroom and scolds them to go cheer for their schoolmates. Just when Yuuya is suggesting that they watch DVD at the library, Nao notices that singles female tennis match for Section 1-A is at 10am. Soon, Yuuya is complaining why they are at the tennis court. Some girls ask Nao if he came to cheer for them. Then, Nao spots Isuzu sitting at the rose bench by himself. Nao wonders why he is the only one there. Nao exclaims in surprise upon seeing Karin playing tennis. The others were surprised by that so Yuuya asks Nao what it is. Blushing Nao coughs and says that it is nothing. Yuuya recognizes Karin as Nao’s stalker and comments that she is really good, could it be that she’s with the tennis club. Nao says that she didn’t join. Nao is surprised when Yuuya asks how come he knows. Yuuya goes fufu and teases Nao by asking if he has fallen in love with his stalker while she is bugging him. Nao denies it and wasn’t it a rule that they cannot join competitions wherein they are a club member of so they cannot join the soccer competition. While Nao is tense about being too careless, Yuuya complains that it is hot and they should go to the library. Nao is thinking that it is generally because it surpassed his expectation. [<- why he exclaimed in surprise?] Yuuya notices that Nao isn’t listening and he looks mesmerized by Karin who wins the competition. Going back the bench, Karin happily says that it is an effortless win. Isuzu tells her the other person won a set. Karin exclaims that it is because she was careless. Isuzu tells her that her cellphone rang. Karin blushes upon reading a message from Nao congratulating her for winning and she played really well. Isuzu is startled when Karin jumps on the bench and starts looking for Nao.

Then, Karin starts waving at Nao but to her shock, Nao looks away from her when they haven’t seen each other for two days. Isuzu asks Karin what she is doing. Nao texts her that with so many people there, he cannot wave back at her. Karin texts back if he came to cheer for her. Karin becomes gloomy when he replied that he actually didn’t know she joined the tennis competition. Then, she perks up upon reading that since the rival is Karin’s class, so he came to check it out but he didn’t see her around that he thought she’s goofing off but she’s actually competing..she’s so good at tennis that it surprised him. Karin holds her cellphone tightly for he was looking for her. She wanted to talk in front of him..not only through emails[/texts] or phone calls. Isuzu quietly watches her. At the rundown apartment, Nao opens the door to see happy Karin welcoming him home and says that she cooked a lot for dinner again. Nao immediately closes the door and wonders if he is hallucinating or maybe, he’s dreaming. Karin opens the door and asks him what’s up with him. Blushing Nao says that is his line for the bathroom installation isn’t fixed yet so what she is doing here. Karin giggles that Nao tensely wonders if she has found out that it wasn’t broken in the first place. Karin happily says that it doesn’t matter even if it’s broken, for it is okay to always use cold water during these hot days. Nao looks tense. He asks isn’t it more comfortable at her main house since it is spacious, clean and has servants to do her work. Removing her apron, Karin says, “Ya..You can say that. *smiles* But Nao-senpai isn’t in that house.” Nao suddenly hugs her from behind. While Karin is surprised and calls his name, he turns her head to him. Karin closes her eyes to wait for his kiss but instead, he knocks his head on hers. He tells her no, how can he make her use cold water, she should go back and stay at the main house until it is fixed. Karin angrily says that hurts [head knock] and he’s quite mean. Trying to open the bathroom door, Karin exclaims that she absolutely won’t leave and she’s going to take a bath right now. Holding the bathroom door close, Nao shouts, “No! If you got a cold, how can you go on a date!?” Karin looks at him and asks, “Huh..? Just now.. Did you say..” Blushing Nao says, “The day after tomorrow, leave the general clean up at school, go on a date..with me, okay?” [<- I’m not sure since the word used seem to be slang that they are doing to 'skip/escape' the clean up. It is that or they’ll date after the clean up.] Blurb: “Is this a dream..!? Next, a dream-like first date with Nao-senpai♡”

Comment: Obviously, Nao is falling for her but he seems to be in denial or just being clueless about it..probably because of his parents’ past. Nevertheless, indirectly thanks to Isuzu’s intervention, Nao starts to reveal more of his feelings for Karin, and appreciate her more. Hm..apparently Karin also didn’t notice that Nao being strangely nice to her meant something like he is starting to really fall in love with her. ^^; It turns out that aside from being a great cook and a somewhat fast learner, Karin is also athletic. Since they are going to have a date soon, hopefully, there would be some more progress in their romance. Hm..is it possible that Isuzu would be there? Depending on his participation if he is there, it might be good or bad. Good if he sees that Nao actually also loves Karin, then maybe he cannot object to the marriage and realize that even if Nao married Karin with other intentions, he had come to love her = they love each other. Bad if he is just going to intervene and spoil the date. Actually, I don’t find the divorce much of a threat/conflict for the couple. With their current progress, so what if they divorce? They can still ‘live together’, date, meet each other, etc and can re-marry with love later on. Isuzu isn’t exactly going to reveal the marriage to the others anyway. And, is that still a big deal for Nao? If Isuzu continues to pester them, Karin would definitely just sever her ties with him, and that’s it. So, I’m not quite sure what they or rather, Nao is afraid of Isuzu. ^^; So, I think this issue can be resolved with Nao admitting that he loves Karin. Scans by all★wink汉化组
