KILL the ROSE [Chapter 3 - Agreement...concluded!?]

While holding a cat, young Eyde looks at her brother happily showing a chick to their parents. As the queen wipes off the dirt off her brother’s face, the king looks at Eyde and calls out to her.

Surprised Eyde turns around to see her smiling father reaching out his hand towards her. And, Eyde wakes up in fright from her dream. She is sweating all over and is breathing heavily.

Knock knock. Marion enters the room and apologizes for interrupting. She finds Eyde brushing her hair. She comments that Eyde woke up quite early today. Eyde says yes, she dreamt something about the past. “So what’s the matter?” Marion says that just now, the squadron captain of the garrison guards wants to see her. “The captain is currently at the reception room.”
At the reception room, a young woman salutes and exclaims, “It’s really an honor to see you, Your Majesty. I’m the garrison captain, Cyan.” Sitting on her throne, Eyde puts her right hand on her chest and says that she’s very delighted to see her.

Cyan says that regarding Her Majesty’s guards and the palace’s guards, leave it up to the palace’s guard squadron. “When I was young, it was my dream to serve Your Majesty. So, it doesn’t matter at all even if I were to die...! *excited* I’m gambling my life and I’ll always protect Your Majesty!”

Eyde asks Cyan if she has the authority to command the palace’s squadron guards. After looking surprised, Cyan sheepishly apologizes. “Until now, I have not received the order for the transfer... the authority to command is currently in Regent Oberto’s hand so please understand.” This made Eyde scowl.
Gripping the arm rest, she complains why is it like that, it is always regent, regent’s...! “Right now, I’m sitting on this country’s throne. How come the country’s powers are still in the three ministers’ hand? Cyan!” Cyan says, “This small official is extremely terrified but rules are rules so...” This made Eyde pout and scowl even more.

Marion tells Eyde to please accept this rule for the time being. “Very soon, you can take back all the power so please Your Majesty, please be more patient.” Eyde agrees. Marion tells her that until that moment, as the ruler, she has to properly embody etiquette into her body. Eyde also agrees with that.

The door opens. Marion gestures to smiling Louis and says that starting today, this is her teacher who’ll guide her through the etiquette course. Louis says that it is a really a pleasant morning, Your Majesty.
Pointing at Louis, Eyde shouts, it’s you. Louis says yes. Marion is puzzled over what’s going on. Eyde shouts if he has already forgotten what she told him yesterday! Louis says no, he still remembers clearly what she told him.

Flashback: Eyde shouted, “Lover!? Are you saying you and me!?” Louis said yes but they won’t become true lovers. “I’m saying that we are simply going to pretend to be lovers. *Eyde exclaimed in disbelief* Your Majesty doesn’t want to get marry nor doesn’t want to bore an heir to anyone...

...I’m a boring social teacher who doesn’t have any territory and was born into a declining nobility. Like this, Your Majesty’s bewildering problem can be resolved.”
Louis thought that if he becomes the lover, the ministers ought to oppose the ‘marriage’ but then, he simply needs to make her fall in love with him so that she won’t let go of him. “Once the ‘fake romance’ starts, I’ll continuously offer the ‘thing’ that the queen needs. Then, slowly, the distance shortens and in the end, she’ll become my slave!”

Louis told Eyde it is for them to mutually help each other by becoming ‘fake lovers’. “What do you think?” Eyde thought for a while and says, indeed, it is quite a good proposal. Turning around, she asked, “But, how do you expect me to believe what you said?”

He turned towards her and said, that is... Eyde had already quickly hit the back of knees causing him to suddenly fall down on his knees. He is shocked when Eyde stabs the ground with her sword and it narrowly misses his face.
Pointing at him, Eyde shouted, “Someone suspicious like you wanting to become the queen’s ‘lover’? Besides, I hate relying on others! If you were to show yourself in front of me again, *gestures a slit of the throat* I’ll kill you!” End flashback.

Cracking her knuckles, Eyde tells Louis that she indeed told him not to show himself in front of her. “Are you ignoring my order?” Louis happily says no, not at all. “As a social teacher, I’m simply obligated to stand here, that’s all.” This thoroughly irks Eyde.

With a hand on his chest and slightly bowing, Louis asks her if she knows the etiquette in dealing with her subordinates. “Just now, Cyan’s saluting position isn’t in any current etiquette book.” Eyde exclaims in disbelief. Cyan affirms that it is so.
Louis explains that how a civilian official and a military official greets is different so Eyde ought to have used a different suitable response. For the civil official, it is putting one’s right hand on the chest and bowing whereas for the military, it is saluting then bowing.

Louis tells her that just now, her response to Cyan was a civilian official greeting. “Particularly in the royal household, the hand signifies loyalty and honor. Because it is a very important part, you must take note of this.” Eyde glumly agrees.

Louis says then, does she believe that there is no longer any reason for her not to take the class. “There’s no need to worry. Starting right now, I’ll correct Her Majesty’s etiquette.” Eyde can only curse.
In a huge room, Louis is somewhat harshly teaching Eyde proper posture and stance. Gloomy Eyde couldn’t protest. Putting a book on her head, Louis says not bad, not bad, she learns quickly. “Have you changed your mind regarding my proposal yesterday?”

Turning to him, Eyde angrily shouts that he still dared to mention that! As he catches the book thrown at him, Louis asks which one among the sons of the three ministers does she plan to marry? Edye shouts that she won’t do such a thing and she also won’t marry!

He asks her how she plans to refuse them. She shouts, “I’m the ruler! I have the right to refuse this thing!” Louis asks if she knows that it isn’t that comfortable to do that being on the throne. “Do you even have other choices? *whispers* Aside from me, that is.”
Eyde shouts for him not to casually decide on that. She prepares to kick him but her heel broke off. She falls but Louis catches her. Looking at surprised Eyde, Louis says, “All alone, you cannot resolve all the problems. If it is me, I can help you.” After a pause, Eyde says, you—

They were interrupted by Marion who calls out to Eyde and exclaims that it is bad, Your Majesty! Quickly pushing Louis to the side, Eyde asks her what is it. While catching her breath, Marion says, “The [former] queen mother, she... her attempted suicide has already started. She is trying to slash her neck!”

Alarmed Eyde says, again. Louis is puzzled over ‘queen mother’ and ‘again’. Eyde says that she must quickly go but she exclaims in pain. Her right ankle is swelling. It was caused by her fall earlier.
To her shock, Louis offers to carry her by piggyback. “Right now, it’s an issue wherein you don’t have a minute to lose, right?”  Eyde says that she doesn’t need it and if it is necessary, she’ll look for someone else’s help.

She looks around but the maids quickly start acting busy. She looks at Marion who tells her to please not ask an unreasonable request of her. She looks at smiling Louis and curses, darn it!

In some forested area, there is a tall tower. Tired Luis carries Eyde up to the long flight of stairs to the top. He asks if the former queen is locked up in this kind of place.
Edye shouts he’s wrong. “Ten years ago, the king and the prince... When father and brother passed away... *Louis puts her down* Mother she... became strange.” Louis is shocked to see a short haired woman trying to use a knife to cut her neck.

The maids urge her to give it to them or she’ll hurt herself. “Please don’t be like that, queen mother!” Eyde’s mother shouts, “Annoying to death! If you don’t want me to die, then all of you just go disappear!”

Eyde shouts what are they doing, and how come they are dealing with this so badly. “I’ll calm her down. Go and call the doctor. Social teacher, you can also leave.”
Instead of leaving, Louis stays and spies on them outside the room. He wonders if it is really okay. Approaching her mother, Eyde says, “Mother. *her mother looks at her* About suicide, didn’t you already promised me that you won’t do it again? Come, hand over the knife.”

Her mother says, ah, ah then she screams and goes to Eyde with the knife. This startles Louis. The mother drops the knife and hugs Eyde. She shouts, “Eden! Ah ah Eden. My Eden. I really miss you. I really miss you.” Holding his chest, Louis thinks that startled him. “Eden? What’s going on?”

The former queen continues to say, “My cute son. Unknowingly, you are now all grown up. If it is you, you’ll definitely become an outstanding king.” Holding her away, Eyde says, “Mother. I’m Eyde. Your daughter. Eden, my brother, he...is already dead.”
The former queen shouts for her to shut up! “Like this... Just like this, he’s still living... right? Eden? *Eyde sadly looks at her* Say something, Eden? I beg of you. I will drive away that evil child so please do not take him away! Everyone will become unhappy if they stay around that child! That child- killed her own father-- she's cursed! She killed the king!”

Louis is shocked by that. He unconsciously leaned on the wall and it caused some piece to fall. Hearing that, Eyde quickly turns toward the door. Just then, the maids arrive with the doctor. They try to hold the former queen down by tying her with bandages so that it would be more gentle [on the skin].

Eyde looks on for a while before turning to leave. She hears her mother saying, “Eden, my cute child... You are a good king and mama knows this.” Scowling Eyde bites her lip and left.
Outside the tower, as Eyde descent the stairs with Louis, she asks, “Hey, social teacher, just now... you were there, right? Behind the wall?” Louis says is that so, what about it? Eyde slightly smiles and asks if he heard about the past. “The story about me killing my own father.”

Wondering if she is worried about that, Louis smiles and says about that, he believes, because he— And, he sees something swinging near his head that he quickly evades it. There is a huge sword slash on the wall. Eyde says that he can now go and die for hearing the royal family’s secret.

Louis cannot believe that she’ll have this kind of reaction so could it be that she really killed the former king? Louis calls out to her as she points her sword to his neck.
Eyde says that she doesn’t want to hear what he’ll say. “In order to drive back the regent three ministers and take back this country, my weakness cannot be exposed.”

With a forced smile, Louis asks if it is alright when she’s all alone. Eyde asks what. Louis says that right now, this country’s real power is already seized by the three ministers and they’ll soon go for the throne. “Right now, you don’t have any power to rebel, Your Majesty...

...It is impossible for you to handle them all by yourself. What if I become Your Majesty’s comrade? What do you think of me? Am I worth trusting? Trusting is also a necessity, Your Majesty.”
He grabs Eyde’s sword and looks straight at her. He continues, “If you feel that you already have no use for me, then please, immediately kill me. Anyway, I already heard the royal family’s secret. I’ll be very happy to protect the secret until I die...

...Whether I live or I die, it will be all up to you, Your Majesty. *holds sword tightly which causes his hand to bleed* But-- isn't it a waste to kill me like this? *lets go of the sword* Your Majesty’s comrades might also be some other men. It is also possible that there are that kind of lewd men.”

Eyde asks ha, are there a lot of men like him. “Aside from acting as a ‘fake lover’, do you have any other use?” Louis says, about him, he has the power of attraction [/seduction]. She asks, power of attraction?
Louis says yes (but then, it is only effective on women). Eyde asks what is that and is it of any help to her. Louis explains, “In order to accomplish this great undertaking of wanting to quietly accumulate power and take back the robbed political power, you really need all sorts of specialized talents...

...For Your Majesty’s great undertaking, you need this kind of talent-- *clench fist* On behalf of Your Majesty, let me gather people who can become Your majesty’s comrades! (But then, it is limited only to women!)”

After a pause, Eyde sheaths her sword and says, fine. “Then, you need to engrave these two things in your heart and mind. You’ll die once you’re not able to accomplish this agreement. *Louis clenches his left fist to stop the bleeding* Two. Please don’t treat this fake play into something real. You and I are fake lovers. Our relationship is fake.”
Louis bends down and holds his right hand to his chest. He says, “That is how it should be, Your Majesty.” He holds out his bleeding hand to her. She looks at it and holds out her hand. He takes her hand and kisses it.

Later on, at a public park, Louis is sitting on the bench with a book on his face. He thinks, “Ah ah, so tired-- Yesterday was really dangerous. At that time, I just went along and said some big words. But, right now, what should I do. If it is now, can I still run away?”

He is surprised when someone removes the book from his face. It is Cyan. He says she’s from yesterday... Cyan introduces herself to him. “I’m always looking for you. I didn’t think that you’ll be staying in this kind of place.” Louis is puzzled since she is looking for him.
Please with himself, Louis thinks geez, it is always this kind of progress, he’s so handsome that it is some kind of a mistake [/sin]... Cyan sweetly smiles and asks if he can walk with her alone.

Soon, in a carriage, a hooded person is sitting at the driver’s seat. Inside, Louis nervously sweats as he is sits in front of Oberto. Cyan is sitting beside Oberto. Louis asks if there is any change in the plan at this time.

He is surprised that Cyan is unexpected under Oberto’s hand. “Up to where does the three ministers’ palm extends to...” Oberto laughs and says that it is still the same as before. “The reason I called you is because the situation is a bit... it is better to hurry up a bit. Are you doing the task I gave you? Is there any progress?”
Louis says of...of course. “Yesterday, Her Majesty and I have already become lovers. (even if it is fake).” Cyan looks surprised. Oberto is delighted over this. He says that he has a good eye for people. “This is the money that I promised you... *Louis sparkles and drools as Oberto puts his hand in his pocket* About the money, it is still too early now. *puts money back in pocket*”

Louis bites his lip and thinks, tsk, this old geezer. Oberto says that if it is simply saying it, then anyone can do that. “Do you have any substantial proof? Hey...Louis, I’m very worried when I had noticed it. The time when this country is ruled by the regents is already over...

...Right now, the queen’s rule is mainly an observation point. Who will the queen marry? Chrysler and Tequila’s sons are currently getting close and are known to be scheming to take the queen’s hand. I do not at all wish to see that outcome. First, establish a real relationship. It is all up to you.”
Louis nervously asks what can be considered as a real relationship. To Louis and Cyan’s surprise, Oberto says to embrace [/have sex] with the queen. This made Louis extremely nervous and aghast. He mutters, “About that...how can I say it... ah... not only an outward appearance of a romantic relationship, rather...rather a physical relationship, right?

Oberto asks eh, are you saying something? Louis says no, nothing at all. Imagining swords pointed at him, Louis laments that no matter when, this fellow can do some crazy things. Oberto says, “If you are really lovers, you can do this kind of thing, right, Louis?” Louis smiles and thinks yes, since he already come here, he might as well hit the nail on the head.

To Cyan’s surprise and Oberto’s delight, Louis says, “About that kind of thing, before dinner, I’ll be holding the queen tightly into my chest.” Louis thinks, “Besides, isn’t it more interesting this way?”
Comment: Based on Eyde’s nightmare, what happened to her father and how she reacts to being touched by Louis before, I can presume that her father tried to rape her. Most likely, in self-defense, she had killed him. I wonder though if it is because of that her brother died like protecting her or he died later on.

Actually, it seems that Eden is her twin brother since their mother has mistaken her for him. Their names are similar, too. I’m also wondering about why she doesn’t know etiquette but knows how to use a sword. Usually princesses are taught the etiquette. Could it be that she is switching with Eden during their lessons?

Since the queen mother hates Eyde and blames her for everything, is it possible that she tried to kill Eyde but Eyde and Eden switched identities? So, in the end, the queen mother accidentally killed Eden and it caused her to become crazy.

Well, Louis managed to make Eyde agree to his proposal. It is amusing that Eyde isn’t satisfied with only that ‘fake lover’ thing. She wants him to be of more use to her. That is quick thinking on Louis part. In a way, Eyde does need all the help that she needs especially since her regents/caretakers won’t give back the power that was lent to them.

I have a feeling that Oberto is just a killjoy/'if I can't no one will'. Since he has no heir to marry off to Eyde, he wants to stop the other two from getting what they want especially since either one will be in power and he won’t have any power anymore. Scans by 鴿子漢化
