Free Talk: Skip Beat [Chapter 266 + White Day side story]

At long last, SOMETHING is FINALLY going to happen in the romance side of the story. The stalemate is going to be broken. And that is...ah, thanks to Shou, I guess. ^^; That kiss and that latest rendezvous with him.

Without knowing Kyouko’s side of things, Ren is most likely trying his best to keep up the façade that everything is okay. There is nothing between them...well, there isn’t but with evidences thrown on his face and given, he isn’t a total idiot, he would be quite stupid not to assume something is going on between them.

:*~*:._.:*~*:._.:*~*:._.:*~*:._.:*~*:

Given Ren’s thoughts, I’m not quite convinced that he is in a combative mode against Shou. It almost borders on depression and hopelessness. So, does this mean he’ll give up? Maybe someone has to intervene if he did that. Hopefully, things won’t go back to square one like before when Ren was in this kind of state in regards to ‘cannot fight against the bond between her and Shou’.

Currently, there are two who might help. Yashiro got a hint about the possibility of Kyouko liking Ren. Iirc, there was no follow up on that. Perhaps, her reaction on this incident can confirm things to Yashiro.

In the side story, Kanae would most likely know of Ren’s side. I wonder if her going to the US soon is connect to all this. So, which will come first? Reveal who Ren really is or the confession/realize that they mutually like each other? Ah, both happening at once?

The hint is a ‘bomb’. And given the mangaka being a meanie, the bomb will most likely be a cliffhanger. If she’s really in a sadist mode, a break after that cliffhanger. 😈 We’ll know in a few days ^^

Anyway, we finally know what his White Day gift is. ^^ Truly fitting for her. Hehe, even if it did cause her some stress since Ren didn’t mention anything about it. Though, shouldn’t Ren find it odd that Kyouko didn’t thank her for it like she usually does?

  1. Thank you for your thoughts Kat!!! This manga is driving crazy . Just a few days away from the next one to see what happens. But I agree it always ends with a cliffhanger.

  4. Thank you again Kat ^_^

Exactly my thought there.. ''Thanks to Shou'' -.- If he is not here Skip beat will be a beautiful story on procrastination.. The love of our protagonists for each other would simply have gone stale over time with their lack of control over the wheel of their own love lives.

Ren appears to get combative at weirdly unexpected moments in the manga.. like when Shou was about to confess to Kyouko on that staircase in the hotel during Dark Moon's arc. I wonder what's the trigger really? O.o Could it be he feels hopeless only when he starts to think that Kyouko actually likes Shou and that it's not just the other way round?

And if Kyouko likes Shou maybe he should just back off.
And then he gets depressed =/

Yashiro's suspicion, was it during Kyouko's slump during the audition of Lotus? It will be cool to have him being the wingman.
Bit excited at Kanae calling Ren out.. It feels a bit high school :p Inevitably so since Ren is like a shy high school boy who has issues confessing xd

    1. True.

I think it is. That kiss probably shook his confidence to the core. And then, there is that meeting wherein Kyouko acts playful with Shou. I do wonder if it is a factor that he is more 'American' than Japanese. I mean, in Japanese stories, even if it is a futile, confession is still important for 'moving on'. I don't think it is like that in the West.
So, given the circumstance, a confession seems quite unlikely.

Yup. Actually, it would be interesting if everyone who knew would conspire together to help the two out. =P

      Haha, yup.

    2. Lovemons sprouting left and right haha but I quite like that.

About the American-Japanese analysis, I haven't thought from that perspective. I'm thinking of Ren's previous and somewhat ''easy'' relationships with women and how he burned some steps in his relationships.. so I think you might be right.
That said, aren't Americans supposed to be more forthright about their feelings? xD

But well, with Kyouko it has to be a confession. She is going to live rejecting the mere thought of Ren having feelings for her until and unless Ren comes out of his closet.

P.S: I'm really looking forward to the audition of Lotus to be truthful, it's way more exciting for me than a chapter release focusing solely on love/Sho/Ren.

    3. Haha ^^

True. So perhaps, Kyouko is a special case? First girl he totally fell in love. She doesn't have a favorable impression of him especially from the start. So, he has been careful. Well, aside from his 'don't want to fall in love' stance before due to what happened in the US.

He still believes that there is some bond between her and Shou...probably confuses it as love. At this point, well, in our culture, usually there is no reason to confess for the purpose of moving on.

      Another thing is perhaps, not wanting to ruin a 'friendship'. I mean, after a confession, things MIGHT become awkward and the relationship won't be the same as before. Of course, it hurts to still be in an unrequited love with that friend. ^^;

True. Perhaps, realize that Ren doesn't have feelings for that other girl? It seems that they are in the same situation. 😅 No one dares take that confession step. Will a separation do? Then, someone 'chasing' after the other? <- cliche scenarios. Somehow, I think going to the US might be part of the story soon.

? Looking forward...isn't it over? I think it was good though the resolution with Kimiko seems weak. As if there is a part two wherein Kyouko herself will give her what she deserves.

      Regarding the romance part, it is a bit slow in these few past chapters that I feel there's no need to comment on it. ^^;;

    4. Sorry I meant the actual filming of Lotus.. I really love that part of Skip Beat. During Dark Moon Kyoko saw Ren with a particular expression and started to understand his feelings better.

After being ''knifed'' by his words and seeing her terribly hurt expression, I imagine her feelings will be portrayed in her Momiji.

About the confession, I seriously find it hard as well to picture xd Maybe because both r such difficult characters and well... I have come to a point where expecting a confession in Skip Beat is just self-torment :P

This no-confession situation might just drag on until something Major happens.. like Ren getting real hints that Kyoko likes him :O For that to happen we need alot of wingmen to help xd

I think it's inevitable if Ren thinks that these 2 have a bond- Maybe he understands there's no love as such. But the bond is real and even Ren sees that. And this is why he is so uneasy bcz that bond is pretty strong almost indestructible. Kyoko will simply be deluding herself if she thinks otherwise.

Ren might not confess unless he is sure that he can have her too. He has no idea about her romantic feelings for him =/ I sometimes feel that if Tragic Marker has continued for a longer time, and with her being in a secluded hotel with him away from Sho- he might have confessed to her. Less opportunities to overthink about friendship or whatnot. Or Kyoko might have shown more of her real feelings and encouraging him to confess.

At this point in the story I feel there's no way Sho will ever disappear from her life. He will always be there, whether as a friend or tormentor, or bridge between her and her mother or even Sho's parents. So I don't see how Ren would wish to pursue her form now on... he might feel that Sho will always be an obstacle. I think the trigger has to come from Kyoko herself. [I prefer this to a cliche].

Ren is definitely a possessive character which is actually normal if you love someone, but it's so unfair for Kyoko if he does not show his feelings. It almost gives the impression that he wants her to remain in the Love me section forever and never know love -.- Hope he takes some steps real soon!! I'm not sure about the timeline, but we might be closer to something big in their love life if a long time has lapsed since both have realised their own feelings for each other.

Praying that Koga helps too maybe with some fake interest in Kyoko (or why not real too :p). He looks a bit mischievous and on top of that dislikes Ren. I think Yashiro did warn him that Kyoko will become more ''desirable'' with time and along her growing popularity.

About Kimiko and a part 2, with so much going on in the story, she's pretty much the last one I want to see. But I agree, I feel we have not heard the end of her too. Though her hands are tied so long the photographs remain.

    5. I see. Hm...but in Lotus, Ren would have to watch it on TV right?

Haha, true. And will it come before or after the revelation of their 'secret identities'?

      Yup.

True...highly possible. At the end of that arc, Kyouko is already wondering about his real name and he was thinking of telling the truth when there's another opportunity. Ah...it has been a long time since then.

True. And, I think there is some sort of inferiority complex? Iirc, he was in a slump when he couldn't protect Kyouko before and Shou did...even rubbed it in. It did made him recall that bully in the US. After all, this is the Kyouko who is always going 'Shou is this, Shou is that' to him when they were young. I guess Ren hasn't exactly seen any impact/influence he had brought in Kyouko's life.

True. I guess timing is also needed. Like, not exactly wanting her to be there forever but then, how long does it take for one to move on from that kind of romance? Especially if one had swore never to fall in love again. If it was past Kyouko, she might even detest him for it like what, you want me to become gaga/crazy over love again and be a total idiot?!

Possible though for Ren, I think he can still ward off the others except when it comes to Shou. I mean, other than Shou as a rival, Ren would be complacent.

      Yup. So, perhaps, if ever, she'll reappear in the US arc...if there is a US arc. ^^;;

  6. Skip Beat is slow burn and full of dramatic irony. We know they like each other and they don't know. It's been years I've waited. Even other characters are picking up on it. All I want is a big development in the relationship. Too much to ask?

    1. Hm...maybe. Like, will it be 'the end' soon after the big reveal/confession and everything?

    2. I felt like he would confess after she graduates but with his jealousy showing, maybe that will speed up?

The original conflict is that she wanted to surpass Sho and make him regret dumping her. For it to end, she has to do that

      Delete
    3. Hopefully, it will speed things up. ^^

True. Though, it seems that she has gone over that goal...acting isn't for that goal anymore after how Ren wasn't happy over her motive.

Given Sho's ego and pride, would he even admit regretting that he dumped her?

  7. Hmm, I wonder if we'll ever hear from the "Beagle" again. I had half expected to hear about him during the White Day season, but I suppose his character isn't as necessary now?
