Free Talk: Skip Beat [Chapter 264]

The first part of the chapter verifies that what Erika did was quite effective that Kimiko is giving up on showbiz. It is definite that was Kimiko’s original personality. I guess she is indeed talented in acting but used it for her own benefit to get ahead.

After all, with just that story about the ring and well, a little help from Kyouko’s misunderstanding/imagination, she actually believes that Ren has a thing for Kimiko. It is currently causing some awkwardness between the two. And, I’m not sure how long that will last. Wait, maybe it won’t. Maybe in the next chapter, that will be tackled again. After all, Shou was shown in the last chapter.

Apparently, the producer is a fan of the two’s mentor. Ah, the regret. But then, I think it is better this way. That is for them to decide on who will play the role based on who they think fits the role compared to the connection to one’s idol. I don’t think Kanae would want to get the role that way.

In a way, I’m amused that the producer would actually be weird out when Kyouko was fangirling all over the floor about Kanae. And here, Kyouko is weird out when the producer is doing pretty much something similar. =P

And, Kanae is moving on after this failure. Ah, by the way, does this mean she failed in Lory’s Love Me mission since she didn’t get that role? Anyway, in the end, just like Chiori, Kanae is no longer limiting herself to certain roles/comfort areas and venturing on to other things.

Actually, aside from Hiou who probably won’t be too okay with Kanae possibly leaving for US, I think Kyouko, too. I wonder why the mangaka would make Kanae go. Haha, and I’m not sure if the mangaka is going to keep this rolling or suddenly drop it like before...say Shou’s parents visiting <- maybe will be revived in the next arc or wanting to know Ren’s real name or is there a secret White day gift or not, etc.

There are some interesting plotlines that can come about from Kanae going to the US. One, maybe she’ll find out something about Ren and tell Kyouko about it? Two, a reason for Kyouko to go to the US later on. Like vacation or visit Kanae. Then, perhaps, Ren will accompany her. Lol, of course, maybe just meet her there since there is that hair dye thing he has to do. Unless, she already knew his identity before they both go ^^

And, the cover page is such a teaser. Yes, how many more years before we can actually witness that. Or, will we even witness it? What if the series ends when they are officially together and that’s it? Well, this part ought to conclude the arc, right?

And, I think the new arc will be related to romance again. There are a lot of romantic issues left open in this current arc like why Kyouko didn’t get a White day gift, what about those stolen kisses, who is the real crush, Shou appearing again, etc.

  1. I'm actually wondering how will Kyouko react to finding out Kuon and Ren is one person? Would she be really mad?

    1. It might be a mix emotion since she is currently in love with Ren. She also hid her Bou identity from him. I'm not sure if it can be called 'they're even'.

    2. I actually *really like* Kyoko's secret identity as a chicken. If I could get one request through to the mangaka it would be "more Bo".

It's at least a mildly disturbing element about Skip Beat that Ren knows way more about what's going on than Kyoko: the Bo secret is the one thing that helps balance things out

When I write the end of Skip Beat in my head, I expect: (1) Ren confesses to Kyoko, (2) Kyoko accepts (after going through some weird gyrations), (3) Ren reveals that he is Kyon (Koo's son)-- but this is an understandable deception, no cause for upset, (c) Ren reveals that he's Corn-- and this makes Kyoko angry, and just when she's complaining about deceptive he is, she remembers she has a secret of her own-- (d) Kyoko eventually admits that she's Bo (to Ren's relief, because she had him imagining worse things).

    3. Ya, doomvox, it has been a long time since Bou appeared. 'It' usually makes an appearance whenever Ren has some sort of trouble. I guess he is caught up with things that he didn't think of saying hi of some sort to Bou again.

Possible. I would think that it should be good timing/something happened for Ren to confess. He tends to be cautious with her like in the previous chapter, he couldn't ask about the kiss immediately. That would have been Shou's forte.

  2. There have been a number of hints that the mangaka has in mind some sort of dramatic events in the US. Ren's parents are there, and Kimiko had some sort of gig in the US before auditioning for Lotus. My guess would be that Kimiko is lying about "giving up showbiz", and will just go back to working in the US...

I keep thinking the meeting with Sho's parents is being saved up for a flashback, though the other way it could be played is with a line explaining that their trip was delayed.

It does feel like dropped balls are accumulating-- there are certainly lots of odd absences, like: Kyoko has just survived a murder attempt, and the subject didn't come up with Yashio and Ren, even when all three of them were alone together. Huh?

    1. It's possible, doomvox. She can actually get away with it since 'giving up showbiz' wasn't specific and would most likely refer to Japan's showbiz only. There is also about that crush... it was not revealed who it was, right? I think Kimiko will re-appear later on especially since Kyouko wasn't able to give her a payback over what she tried to pull.

Possible. If not, it might just be a side story for the volume release.

Indeed. Well, as I mentioned, it might be tackled again later on since the thing with Kimiko doesn't seem to have concluded. I'm still entertaining the possibility of Kimiko's crush being the US actor who bullied Ren before. =P

    2. "There is also about that crush... it was not revealed who it was, right?"

I think it was, but it was completely forgettable-- the mangaka pulled a name out of the air, and it was someone we've never heard of or seen on sage.

    3. Oh. Lol, you're right about it being forgettable. ^^
