Namaikizakari [Chapter 33]

After Yuki shouted to Arisa that she doesn’t wanted to give Shou to her because she needs him and she also wanted him, surprised Arisa asks Yuki if she is a bit stupid. This shocks Yuki. Arisa says, “..the one who is always running away is me.” Then, Arisa walks away. Arisa recalls asking Shou what he would do if she said that she likes him and the time when she asked him to close his eyes and think of her as Yuki. Arisa thinks that if she explicitly told him then, she cannot become friends with him again. “I won’t be able to once again tell him, ‘goodbye’.” At the train, Shizuka has been sniffing his shirt that Kira tells him to quickly stop that since it’s embarrassing and what’s up with him this time around. Shizuka asks Kira if he has this granny scent on him. Kira asks who told him that. Shizuka couldn’t believe that he unexpectedly did that kind of thing. <- hugged Yuki and asked if it has to be that guy. Shizuka wonders if he is an idiot for even if he didn’t specially ask that kind of question, his heart already knows it clearly. Shizuka tells Kira that he will still trouble him a bit in accompanying him for practice. Kira asks what, is it because his mood is quite restless?
Shizuka says no, after they enter the second term, the Winter Cup qualifying competition is about to quickly start, and he[/they] cannot lose again. Back in her house, while drying her hair, Yuki thinks that in the end, she wasn’t able to see Shou and it is inevitable since he is doing his homework. She thinks that this is something that cannot be talked about clearly on the phone or through LIME [pun for LINE internet messaging app]. She looks at the mug he gave her. She thinks that definitely tomorrow, she’ll tell him clearly because if she always wasn’t able to ask about it then she always won’t be able to ask about it. “Tomorrow, I’ll definitely tell Naruse--” The next day at the locker room, Abe calls out to Shou to quickly change his clothes and go for if he is late, he will receive Yuki’s iron hand-! Looking at his cellphone, Shou ask isn’t that quite good. Abe says that it isn’t a bit good and is he listening to him, he’ll quickly go first so Shou should quickly come over. Shou reads a message from Yuki saying that she has something to tell him so go to their class after the club activity.
Pfft. Pfft. Tonomura tells everyone that although they will temporarily stop practice tomorrow but on the day after, after the opening ceremony, they are going to resume afternoon practice so next time, he hopes that everyone would be quite energetic on the first practice during second term. Everyone says okay. After the others say ‘good job’ and ‘I’m so hungry’, Yuki gloomily thinks okay, she won’t cower again..in short, she’ll first quickly grab Shou who finished changes clothes then calmly convey to him her feelings. “‘Naruse, even if you choose Ichii, I still like you.’ Per..perfect.” Then, someone bumps into her. She is surprised to see someone holding a lot of boxes [looking like some robot]. The person apologizes and asks if she is okay. Looking behind the boxes, Yuki asks the coach what happened and what’s up with these things. The coach says that the faculty room will be part of a general cleaning and tomorrow is the last day of summer vacation. He wants to be relaxed in welcoming the new school term. Looking at all the boxes and materials on the floor, Yuki thinks that it is huge workload and normally, she would definitely help but only today, she doesn’t have time.. She starts to walk away as the coach continues to tidy things up.
Then, Yuki turns around and thinks that this is no good. She carries one box and says that she’ll help him. The coach says really, and sorry for the trouble <insert wrong name>. Shou corrects him and says what to do with this box called <insert wrong name>. He tells her to simply throw it away. Arisa quietly watches this scene. While Yuki thinks that there is definitely some time, Shou is in the classroom looking at Yuki’s message on the cellphone. The door opens. Shou glances and says what..it is just Ichii. Arisa exclaims what is that ‘what’ and do not look so obviously disappointed. Looking at his hand, Shou says to let him remind her that the opening of school is on the day after tomorrow. Arisa says that she knows but it is because she has something to tell him so she came. “..I always have something that I’m been keeping from you, and I wasn’t able to tell you..” Shou’s phone beeps. He tells her to wait and he looks at his cellphone. He sighs and says, what..it is Abe. Arisa tells him to cover up his disappointment a little bit. She asks if he is waiting for someone. He says yes. Taking his bag, Shou says that even if he calls her to come over but it seems that she still hasn’t read the message so perhaps, she already went home so forget it. Arisa glances at Shou who is leaving the room. She recalls Yuki helping the coach.
Sitting on the desk, Arisa says tells him that Yuki is at the gym’s faculty room and it is better for him to quickly go for Yuki might not look at LIME and just leave. Shou glances at Arisa and thinks for a while. Then he says, “..Ichi..do you like me? ..is that so?” Arisa look surprised but doesn’t quite show it. She asks if it is so, then what about it. Shou says then, he apologizes for always not seriously listening to what she said before. Arisa thinks that Shou has changed. “He obviously changed. Not me, or some other person, but rather it is that person who changed him-” Mustering up a smile, Arisa asks Shou if he is an idiot and do not mention that kind of disgusting joke again! Shou looks at her and then sideways. He turns around and says, “—goodbye.” After he left, Shou’s goodbye echoes in her mind. Just then, Abe goes in the classroom and calls out to Shou to ask why he ignored him when he obviously saw his LIME. Arisa cries then bends down to say that he startled her to death. Abe calls out to Arisa and asks if she is crying. Arisa denies it. She calls Abe stupid and asks him to please treat her to some gyudon [beef rice bowl]. Narration: “-I finally understand. No matter if I get hurt or hurt other people, no matter if I hit a wall or fall down, if I continuously fear those kind of things, then I basically won’t be able to like someone...
...*Yuki walking fast and thinks that it is already 18 o’clock and even if it took some time but if it is Shou, he should be randomly strolling around the station* I also won’t be able to.. *bumped into Shou* say ‘like’ to this person.” After she looked surprised, Shou calls her stupid for how come she doesn’t look at her cellphone. Yuki angrily shouts ha!? How can she play with a cellphone during club activity and what is he saying.. Then, she stops herself and thinks no, that’s wrong, she doesn’t want to quarrel with him and can she properly say out to him what she wanted to say. Yuki says, “..no, want to say.. I also have something to say.. (Yes, calm down) *Shou asks what* (Do it according to sequence) So..I’m saying.. *Shou says yes.* (Calm down) So I’m saying, about that..can’t you not to give up on liking me? *crossed arms* I’m thinking of that.” Pause. Yuki thinks that she made a mistake and failed. She turns around and gloomily wonders why she said that as if she is someone amazing. Yuki apologizes to Shou about that and after 20 minutes, can he go to the shoe lockers area for she has to clean up the gym at one side and straighten out what she wants to say on the other side.
Shou follows her and kept calling her but she kept on telling him that it is alright, she is very calm right now so first, let her.. He follows her to the gym and asks her why she doesn’t want to listen to what he has to say. Clenching the hem of her shirt, she thinks that it is because.. She tells him that doesn’t he like Arisa so he no longer likes her..and he is definitely thinking about going steady with Arisa..that kind of words..it isn’t that easy to say those kind of words.. Thinking that she also asked him to wait for her for three months, Yuki says how it is possible for her to say it out. She mutters, “..I want you to continue on liking me..something..” Shou looks surprised. She starts tossing the basketballs at him and shouts that for a person like her, she basically cannot say it out!! He calls out to her but she tells him to shut up and he’s not allowed to come over to her!! While Shou manages to hit away the basketballs that she is throwing at him, Yuki shouts that he obviously do not understand her!! “Since always, I needed to summon up a lot of courage in order to get close to you.. I summoned up a lot of courage in order to talk with you.. I basically never thought..! I am so..”
Shou grabs her wrist before she can throw another basketball. He calls out her name and is surprised that she is crying. She wipes her tears and says, “I like you so much that you basically won’t be able to imagine it..” Shou looks surprised and falls down. Thud. Yuki nervously asks if he has a heatstroke. To her surprise, Shou asks who said that..who said, ‘no longer like you’? Realizing that he didn’t faint, Yuki angrily says that he is the one who said that. Shou says that actually, what he wanted to say, ‘I can wait for three months’. Yuki goes ha. Shou explains that is why afterwards, he immediately called her up so many times on the phone. He says that even if he said the truth during the matsuri, she’ll definitely once again have three months of commotion. The others will be shouting still two more months!! Shou says that she would once again get all confused all by herself like an idiot. “Also, if a member got injured, you’ll once again blame yourself and say some baffling things.” Yuki is surprised as she recalls telling him she is to blame because she is always thinking of him. Shou says, “..I do not want Yuki-senpai to show that kind of expression again. *Yuki thinks he always..it is for me..?* So if senpai says it, no matter if it is three months or even half a year, I plan to keep on waiting...
..but, *hugs Yuki to him* hearing you say that you like me, I’ve become unable to wait for three seconds all the more say three months..” Narration: “—I like Naruse’s sturdy arm” Shou asks her to say once again what she just said. She whispers, “...like you.” He asks once again. Blushing Yuki tells him that she won’t say it again. He strokes her ear and says, “..Yuki senpai, can I become your boyfriend..?” Narration: “I like Naruse’s voice calling out my name.” Yuki says that he obviously said that he can wait for half a year. Shou says that it is obvious that she already couldn’t wait. She says -uh. Narration: “I like his fluffy, messy and sticking out all over the place hair like a cat’s. I also like that he seems like a child. His sleeping face--” Shou asks if it is no good. Yuki didn’t reply. He asks if in the end, he must wait for three months. She nervously says, ..uh. Narration: “And also, his frankness and also his dark brown eyes that are steadily gazing at me--” He kisses her. And for the third time, he asks is it no good? Yuki didn’t reply and mutters that it isn’t, no good. [<- I think kind of hesitant but seem to be a yes like it isn’t totally no good to make him her boyfriend] Narration: “I have already fallen deeply in love with him that I do not want to give him to anyone else.” And, the next chapter will be out in Japan on October 20. I found the mangaka’s note within the chapter, “Even if it is my private matter, but some time ago, my first baby was born! Although I needed some time to rest, but mother and child are very healthy so everyone please wait until the series resumes!”
Comment: And from the looks of things, the rivals are out of the way. Arisa already considered that as a rejection. Shizuka said that at the heat of the moment and is now concentrating on his first love, basketball. Yuki finally properly confessed. It is a bit ambiguous if she agreed to make him her boyfriend or not. She seems to want to as Shou claims but of course, there are other factors. Hehe, maybe another heat of the moment and she changes her mind again but then, no matter what, it seems that Shou will indeed wait for her if she wants him to. So for now, all is well. ^^ Scans by 红莲汉

I loved this chapter! After all those misunderstandings and conflicts, Machida bravely declared how she felt and Naruse is agreeing to give her some time (albeit reluctantly). Arisa and Shizuka were being so understanding.
It was so adorable that Naruse kept on asking hopefully whether it is no good if he doesn't wait and she says that it 'isn't' no good (sounds like she's willing to get into the relationship without waiting).
The narration in the background was distinct and raw.
    So... nice.
Oh... in the second paragraph, you wrote 'Arisa' instead of 'Yuki' in the line about her drying her hair with the towel. (Just mentioning.)
    Have a great day!

  9. Hey kat......if it wasn't for ur translation skills, I would have read it maybe after a year( who knows). Like always thanks for the beautiful word of the day n the summary....

Really glad to know that Arisa is out of the way, and also the way yuki and shou got together..hope yuki doesn't become the past herself again ( I really liked the change in her) and they live together, but this isn't the way a plot goes( I mean some surprises or maybe drastic changes) ......
Really thank u for this short but great chapter.....beats waiting for another chapter( two months are really long indeed)...

  21. I hardly ever comment (I'm a lurker!), but I want to express my appreciation for your translations, not just for Namaikizakari. While we can read this in other manga sites, it's your comments and observations that makes reading your translations more personal and engaging - I never get bored! It's refreshing to read other people's point of view about the manga.

As for this chapter, I'm so happy it finally got cleared up! I can relate to Yuki, being someone of an elder child status. It;s hard to break out of saying what you want, or what you need, frankly - most especially if you've been giving way for other people's happiness all the while. It's a habit that turns bad if you do it without considering yourself (a lesson I've learned the hard way). Kudos to Yuki! She's really grown a lot! Naruse, too (although I must admit, his delivery could've been better - putting myself in Yuki's shoes, it must have really hurt!). It was a wake-up call that she needed though.

    Again, thank you! :)

Hopefully now we'll get some development in their relationship now that Yuki's said her true feelings aloud, grown as a character and overcome her trouble being selfish and stating what she wants. I didn't expect it to take 30+ chapters tho when I first read the original one shot ahha ^^

If you take requests, do you mind giving a brief summary of Ore-sama Teacher chapter 123? I'd like to have an idea of what's happening, if only a sentence or two.

True..well, it got popular so it has to be prolonged this way.

      I no longer read Oresama Teacher since I got confused where it is headed and about the characters that seem to look alike. ^^; Anyway for this chapter, from what I can understand, the lead girl is challenged to figure out who is the fake Bunny. She talked with some third years, and think of the fake Bunny's habits. She finds fake Bunny and pretends to fall down the stairs. Bunny immediately saves her and she figured out who he is..I think he's the president. It seems that he wants to quit the council. Then, she meets up with that other guy. She seems to have formed a new group of 'traitors' since that guy betrayed someone, president betrayed the council and she betrayed the discipline committee. She regrets joining this little group and wished she told the others about it. Basically, that's it. Hope that helps a bit. ^^;

  25. Ohmigosh, thank you Kat for the summary! Yuki has changed a lot since the first chapter~ I wonder what's gunna happen from this point and how the love triangles will be resolved..... I hope they arent dragged out for too long ;w;

And also thanks for the mini summary for oresama! :) though I think you should give it a try- I was really confused too at first and dropped it back in 2013, but i caught up recently and ended up enjoying it. it starts off weak and introduces too many characters at once, but if you just carry on reading and don't try to remember all of them, they each get their own arc of development and the story unravels uniquely and nicely ;w; If you like akayona (weird comparison I know), I think you should enjoy oresama if you give it a try xD i just really like it ah i'm sorry for rambling lol

thank you so much for your summaries!

  26. Like always, thank you for the summary and like many said, thank you for you dedication, not only with this series, but with all others too. While I myself keep track of only two or three, I know hard and sometimes demanding it is to keep up the blog with so many series and requests too. Thank you and congratulations, you deserved!

'Bout the chapter? All I can say is that while I'm relieved for the time being, can't stop wondering about the future specially with regards to Shizuka. The polygon seems to have dissipated, but the triangle scares the hell out of me, I tell ya, lol.

And wow, author-san should have had her time with her kid immediately after she gave birth. Can't say how hard she had to work and how hard she had to endure not being completely devoted to her child since those are/were the first months. If it was in my country she'd have had three months of maternity leave right after, and some time before too.

Thank you again for the summary and hard work, it is indeed appreciated like so many have said before. It maybe look like a silly thing, but after a very long of hardwork day, reading something you like really takes your mind away and relieve some stress, I can prove it, lol. Thank you kat, really!

Indeed. I think the concern more later on will be 'to be his girlfriend now or later on' and basketball..and much later on, she's graduating.

True..I'm actually surprised over her reason and how short her break is because other mangaka-s take longer breaks. She probably does not want to make readers wait too long? A very devoted mangaka? You know, there are those who are still drawing even in the hospital.

=) Hehe, still, glad to hear that ^^ You're welcome ^^

    2. I always read some of other summaries you post about, but some of them aren't my cup of tea, so... BTW, glad you pick it Boku no Oide, really like that one, though I'm way behind, lol. And glad that Hibi finally ended, now I can marathon without wondering if the end is near 'cause is one of those stories that, while I find it interesting, can't stand the characters, lol.

So, with Yuki there's bound to be trouble, even with the smallest things, right? I mean, it's Yuki we're talking about, and though she's not the average shoujo's heroine, she's pretty dense and while not a typical tsundere, she's not always upfront with her own feelings. So, like you said, there'll be the graduation, the making official or not, the tournaments, her own insecurities and finally, Shizuka, Not that he's in her heart or make it so that she fickles between him and Shou, more like if Naruse hears about their "hugging" or sees something similar he'll be crazybats* jeallows, pouting and is even capable of doubting Yuki's feelings for him, given that he's extremely emotional and polar opossite of Yuki, lol.

So I'll be glad if it stuck with their own antics for future drama's plot need. Yuki overcoming her "shell" and beeing true to herself and her feelings might need some more chapters and be a good opportunity to see her grow as character, the same holds true for Shou, though the only way I see him overcoming his insecurities is through Shizuka's feelings for Yuki and Yuki handling the situation well enough for not becoming the triangle trope that I so much detest, lol.

And honestly, I can't say if she's a very devoted mangaka or a crazy mom addicted to work, or a slave to the business she's in, I do know that her efforts are very wellcome. Hope she enjoys her time with her kid.

Yes, at least for me, I can't go on very far without reading or watching a series that I like or even go to work without listenning to some same old songs that I listen to almost everyday, I'll go even more insane that I'm now and that's a disturbing thought/fact, lol.

      Thanks again.

      Delete
    3. Hehe, really...I think that already ended. ^^; Lol, I also have read those kind of stories.

True. Hm..maybe also, for Shou to learn to trust Yuki and not be overly jealous? I mean, Shizuka isn't the only guy who might be interested in her especially if she starts to change for the better.

      About that, it makes me wonder if she might plan to end the series soon so that she can have time with her kid. I also think that a long hiatus can be bad since it can make people not that interested anymore. Well, that is true in my case. ^^;

Hehe, seems like you are in a lot of stress and those are your 'breaks/normalcy'. ^^

      Delete
  27. I don't know if I'd say trust is the issue here, but in the lack of a more proper word, I'll go with that. I don't think he 'mistrusts' Yuki, it's just that - in my guy's mind again - I wouldn't be sure of those feelings, even up to the point we are now in the story and with everyting Yuki 'done' for him. I see him more like a clingy type that needs to hear I love you every now and then ang see those words into actions, which he's seeing only now. I think once he finally gets to accept Yuki is really that hard to get out of her comfort zone, he'll understand her better and turn into a not so clingy/jealous boyfriend. Of course, he needs to get the official status first, lol.

I don't think she's planning on ending soon, not with Shizuka plot's hanging still. He's important to the story, 'course not that important we need an arc focusing on him, but I guess he'd deserve a closure like Kisstealer, see, I myself can say that she found her way into my likeness now, lol. And as a Berserk fan, two months hiatus is like nothing to me, I'm jaded. ^^

Well, you hit the nail with that, had to have a sick leave these past few months and my healthy isn't much greater still. That's what you got when you are a government employee and you don't really support that kind of government, I guess that's about right, lol.

    1. Ah, true. I forgot that they don't have the official status yet again...hehe, it's because they're kissing, hugging, holding hands, etc already. ^^; Anyway, I just think that way since Yuki doesn't do any of those things with any other guys so even without saying, he should more or less know, right? But as you mentioned, Shou seems to need to want to hear it from her own mouth.

I think that can easily be resolved after the Winter Cup. That's the last competition Yuki will still be in, iirc, before she quits. Closure would be officially rejected, right? Hehe, is that so...I think she's quite likeable. Does Berserk come out every two months? I do salute people who can wait that long..I mean longer than two months...I heard that Hunter x Hunter is much worst.

I see..that's very stressful. Will things change after the elections? Anyway, take care of yourself.

    2. Guess how long an arc would last, right? I didn't count in this series, but I find that 1 arc consistis in 3 to 5 chapters, so, based on this - without any real evidence, keep that in mind, please, lol - we could still get 12 to 20 chapters befores the ending, if it's ending soon. Seeing as this series isn't like many other that have less content and less details, I guess it's still a good amount of chapters. Specially if I compare with others that I coudn't bring myself to read, lol.

Yea, Berserk, usually, has 3 to 8 chapters per year, sometimes more, sometimes less, but HxH, which I also happen to read, but don't consider myself a fan, is totally irregular, so, it's worse, lol.

Not happening, they were reelected, lol.

      Delete
    3. True. And it also depends if the mangaka will churn out one chapter per month rather than two per month because of her situation. So, maybe 1-2 years. Again, it depends because there are series that are taking its time then suddenly fast forward the last arcs. So, let's just see.

8 is somewhat tolerable but 3 in a year? Well, Berserk is an established series as well as HxH so I guess it is okay for them to do that ^^

      Hehe..I see.

      Delete
    4. Uhm, I could see her rushing things, specially if it's about Shizuka and the tournament, I mean, they have their importance, but all in all, is just so we can see more sides and growing of our OTP - I'm guessing, but I don't thinki anyone here cheers for Shizuka and Yuki, right? RIGHT?! Ò_Ó lol

For now, I'll refrain myself and enjoying the good moment Sho and Yuki had.

I remember when we ONE chapter of Berkser in an entire year. But I also remember seeing NONE of HxH, so there we have it, lol. And no, I won't say it's okay for them to do that, even if the story IS by long shot better than everything I've read so far, we can't just have one or none chapter in a year, unless the author is sick. But it's almost confirmed that they pass their time playing games, and in HxH case, is Dragon Quest, he even admited - ah, he plays with his kids too. And in Miura's case is of more concern, the guy is addicted to Idolmaster, said he himself either.

Well, I've always against my government, but I took the test to work as gov employee out of sheer pression of grandma and mom - so I relate a lot with Yuki sometimes, lol

      Delete
    5. Here, not sure but there are those who prefer the Shizuka-type of guy.

Okay. Maybe they don't need the money since the series is making money and they can spend time playing.

I see but the pay is hopefully good to compensate for the stress ^^

      Delete
    6. Yeah, my fear is that Shizuka has a lot of fans and the author feels the pressure to give him more chances and w/e.

We fans are the ones that suffers the most, but I myself don't 'struggle' so much 'cause the art in Berserk is amazing, the plot is even on par with some really good books - literaly speaking with good reviews - same case with HxH, though the art is not as superb. It's a shame that people don't reckon manga as a "real" form of art.

Nah, not really, not enough to put up with all the s* we have to, lol.

      Delete
    7. I see...and I have seen that happen in other series.

I see. Hm...is that so, why? Though I know that in manga, it is more important to have a good story than art -> HxH, Attack on Titan, etc. Because, if it is good enough, they can just make an anime out of it. =P

      Hehe..is that so.

      Delete
    8. Not that i hate Shizuka, but... Ugh, no, please, author-san, pretty please? *------* lol

I meant that these series, Berserk, HxH and even Claymore have good plots and symbolisms that could be very well be studied in school/even college for some themes like apostyles, the whole Chimera Ants Arc and the kakuseishas from Claymore, hell, I even wrote and essay about Priscilla and the professor was all like: Wow! Such a character! What author is that? What book? When I said it was from a manga he shunned almost right away... See? That kind of prejudice that bugs me.

Talking about adaptation to anime is good, I like quite some of it, though I have to say that I don't watch much, but I have seen that SnK' live action. Dear God, I wish I never have, lol.

      Delete
    9. I see...too bad, the professor is narrow-minded about it. I wonder if it would be the same if it is like a Marvel comic character.

Lol..was it that bad? I only heard from someone who isn't into anime/manga saying that it is awful.

      Delete
    10. I don't think he'd given a thought about Marvel either, Batman and Superman perhaps, but they're DC. The point is that almost everyone I know don't take manga seriously, even when the story/plot and characters are extremely well done. I'll even go further and say that those I quoted before are even better than some acclaimed authors/works, but I digress, lol.

Yea, it was. If you or anyone is familiar with SnK, don't watch it. I don't consider myself as a fan and was nearly furious with some changes they made...

      Delete
    11. Well, I guess because it is 'comics' for them and well, there is already that kind of perception even if it is quite well done.

      I see.

      Delete
    12. Yea, that's one of the reasons that I don't get many friend irl to talk about manga, though if I were into dc or marvel I'd have tons of people to spend hours talking about series, movies and all that, it's almost a pity that I myself can't dig them.

But, one I gave a homework to my students analyze some characters wheter they were from dc/marvel or manga in general, that one was one of my biggest mistake that I'll never regret, lol.

Narrow minds, like I used to say to my students, **cks the world like a plage.

And I'm glad and thankful that you took Niijiro Days too, I love that series. Maaan, it takes me back to my youth, lol.

      Delete
    13. Hehe, is that so. Well, DC and Marvel are more on 'mainstream'. I used to watch them as a kid but start to find it strange when there seems to be no 'ending' to it. ^^; The super powers are fun to watch though ^^ In contrast to manga turned into live action movie...say DBZ, Street Fighter or what you mentioned SnK. =P

Is that so. ^^ Do you still remember who's the favorite one they want to analyze?

      Hehehe..

You're welcome ^^ Is that so. I'm actually not sure if I should read the previous chapters since I don't quite like the leading girls based on that chapter. ^^;; For now, it's on request basis ^^

      Delete
    14. Yea, but I still like it, though. I mean, what's not to like when you see pretty girls and muscular men destroyng the world as they try to save it? Besides, I really like the actor tha plays Captain America and the one as Iron Man, but I always liked Batman better, even if theres no ending whatsoever in any series involving Marvel or DC, lol.

I think they - hollywood - finally understood how to make heroes movies, so, if they learn to make manga movies it'd be awesome, cause I hate to say it, but they're the only ones that have money enough to through it in that kind of entertainment.

My, of course, was Teresa, Claire and Priscila from Claymore, but as soon as I presented to them Meruem and the blind girl from HxH or the golden era from Berserk they went crazy - course I had to explain almost everything, but they like it all in general, in the way that they never though a fictional character could mean so much in a story or be so real as to say, wow, I could totally see someone doing that irl. Besides, they said that they never thought manga and comics could have philosophy so deep and complex. And my class was hell, to say the least, total crazy of me, and they said it that they never thought a literature class could be done like that, though I'm sticking with only english right now, lol.

If you like some fun romcom, I'd recommed it, I read, I guess, 'till chapter 21 and really liked. The problem is the tropes, you know, the author must have a tsundere, a dense as brick,, an otaku, a shy almost spyneless character and someone that always tease him in the story, but the female characters are nice, even the tsundere one. Give it a shot when you have some free time.

      Delete
    15. True.

Ya...but manga has a lot of volumes - 'long running story' so it would be difficult to cram it into a 2-3 hour movie. Marvel/DC can be episodic and as you mentioned, the plot is very simple, 'save the world'..then cliffhanger will be a new villain for the next movie. I think it is easier to pull off if it is an episodic series. Actually, it should be doable for DBZ. ^^; So, it might be more feasible if it is an anime/tv series...of course, it also depends on the market if it clicks or not.

Hehe, I see. That must be some massive info dump you gave them =P Is that only part of the literature class? Lucky that you managed to put that in without the higher ups/anyone complaining that isn't 'literature'..at least, classical.

Ya..I noticed that when I read the basic intro on the characters <- when looking for their names. I'll check it when I have time.

      Delete
    16. I just think the 'cause is prejudice alone, I mean, in early 90's and 80's the only superhero movies that were watchable were batman and superman, and still, you had to really like that kind of thing, and I see the same happening with big studios and the manga industry - they see a lot of things that only a small group would like then it's not worth the investment. If they'd do like they did with X-men, change things and all in all the whole plot, but still managed to bring out the essence of the thing, that'd be good. Anime suffers with petty adaptations too, it's amazing what SnK managed - and it was only 'cause of the anime. Others are just there 'cause there are those who'd buy/consume anything, it's not common to have great animes in each season, unfortunately. T__T

Yea, it was, but we had a lot of classes talking about that stuff, how movies, soap operas, mangas, comics and entertainment in general was not always what we thought to be, sometimes authors would put thing here and there, give hints of the future plot here and there or even work with some kind of philosophy in mind, detailing them on how their characters react or think in determined situation and all. It was hell for me, one of the reasons I quit the job, but at the same time it was good to show that entertainment is not all just that, sometimes we have to think beyond to see what the author really meant. I have two examples of that, Medaka Box (and almost all Nishio Isshin works) and Tsujiura Chupacabra - though the last one is something that I myself am reluctant to accept, but can see where the author is comming from.

Well, wrote too much again, can't even keep a straight face and apologyse now, can I? And yea, check Nijiiro Days, it's really funny, and those four guys, maaan, they're awesome in their own ways! ^^

      Delete
    17. It was? I think there were more than that and ya, I did watch them. There was xmen before, too so I somehow understood what the movies are about. I think I only quit watching around the time of Spongebob, Nickelodeon and the more 'modern' adaptations. Lol, I even watched marvel when they are just are comics pictures on TV with just voice acting. ^^;;

True, it's the hype. I guess it also depends on how much the producer/director likes the material or into the series. Balancing cannon and alterations. As you mentioned, bring out the essence. Ya, it depends on a lot of things and perhaps, casting, special effects, ability to reach out to a bigger audience = profit, etc.

Hehe, that seems to be a lot of over analyzing. And you have to read and watch lot of stuff...perhaps including the ones that you don't like?

      I see ^^

      Delete
    18. No, no, I wasn't about the cartoons - hell, how I wish they'd make another x-men cartoon like that one in early 90's - I was talkking about movies like The Hulk - have you seem the one made in the 80's or The Flash or even Captain America. Those were awful and I remember reading or watching some documentary that is almost killed the industry 'cause it was treated like a joke by the producers.

Now, they're blockbusters, all producers want is please they're fans and they're still trying 'cause you know, not everybody likes the changes/adaptations that were done. The cartoons were fine and aimed at a different audience, today the audience is us, the one the grew watching those stuff and the youngun's, which I'd say holds more 'importance' cause they'd be the ones buying more merchandise and stuff.

The literary valor of these comics are still on superman and batman 'cause the symbolisms they represent - they are almost a Nietzsche read with all the look to much into the abysm, or hunt monster and become the monster - and Superman " literally uberman" saving mankind and representing at some point what Jesus represented and all... The ones we have on marvel are just, well, heroes agains't bad guys and that's it. That was what I was trying to say, and hell, made an even bigger post of it. T____T

Yea, that part play crucial part in adaptating something nowadays, the plot may be the best there is, but if the special effects and the essence of the story aren't brought up, it's doomed, like almost live actions we've seen.

Yea, you already seen that I'm a bit crazy, right? I do over analyze almost everything, and sometimes I get the feeling that though it's there, it wasn't 'cause the authot planned to put there, it was just coincidence, or luck, it happens, so I'd always tell my students to keep their mind open, even if it's not the author's intentions, analyzing things is always a good exercise for the mind. Yep again, I try to read all genres, and now that I left literature behind, I'm not bound to stick with a read that I don't enjoy at all, now I'm free, bhwahahaha!

Sorry for the long post, again. T__T

    19. Hehe, I see..the movies. They must be awful that I don't recall them. I do recall the Hulk tv series and Flash tv series before.

      True.

Hehe, is that so. Hm..didn't realize that it was that in depth in comics. I only know of the episodic nature of the series like in the cartoons way before...bad guy cause trouble, good guy saves the day, the end. Of course, in other 'world's it must be totally different like it made news before about Superman being dead..then spawned four new Superman..then, there was Capt America dead... Then, I read about some heroes aren't the original ones anymore because this and that are now under the mask to keep the 'identity' alive..somewhat like the Phantom which is inherited by the sons.

Lol..it is indeed good exercise and can bring out creativity and imagination ^^ Too much..can be bad. I recall reading before in a site about over analyzing cartoons like why this character have this kind of weapon, why is s/he dressed up like that, etc, etc..

Hehe..it is indeed good to be free ^^

      Don't mind..it's okay ^^

Hope I am not hammering ur peace cause its really hard to read everyone's comment.. ( at times i really can't find my own published views, its that annoying but still fun to know there are berserk fans like Fe and Apurva)

    1. Well, depends on how short is short, Tanvish. I think the series can wrap up for around 2-4 arcs. Though, there are some mangaka who suddenly speed up things in the last few chapters. ^^; I thought of that since the mangaka just gave birth but she is only taking a short break unlike the other mangaka. Yuki is graduating in around 8 months in their time. So, one arc preparation for the competition, one arc for Winter Cup + Christmas, one arc for New Year + Vday, and another final arc for goodbye.

How they work depend on the series. I think this series is a bit difficult to do since the mangaka puts in a lot of dialogue, how detailed is the drawing and content. If you compare it with other twice a month series in Shocomi or Margaret, Hana to Yume series tend to put in a lot of stuff in each chapter. It is almost like a monthly series. So, I guess there are more breaks for them.

It also depends on the mangaka. How fast she draws, think of the story, deal with deadlines, health issues, sales etc.

      No problem...

      =)

Though, the second para shows ur love towards mangas. How many people are there like this? I wonder....

So kat sorry to ask a personal question but I always wanted to know this- how do u see ur life as? I mean first I used to think that can events in manga come true( except supernatural), I mean the ones which make us happy with our opposites? (Its first time I am asking my lamest question to someone so please feel free to ask me to stop if I m bothering u everyday, or r such requests of saying that my questions are annoying and all really make u angry?)

By last para I meant that this is the only way to share my views as I have no one else( I mean friends) to do so, and it makes me happy. 9. Hehe..let's just say that it is just being efficient =P

      I don't mind. I think it depends. If it is the manga wherein one meets the person and everything falls into place very, very smoothly, it won't happen. It also depends on the other person. Will he be the same after marriage? And, how patient, loving, etc one can still be when the other party isn't what you thought he is. As I read in an article, at first, it is attraction and after marriage/living together, the other person will show one's true nature. So, if you still continue to love each other after all the 'defects', quarrels and everything, that is true love. I think it also depends if one is satisfied with that person = not look for someone else. And, I hope I'm answering your question. ^^;

For me, it won't happen. Before, when I was younger, I also hope and dream for that but when reality sinks in and seeing the people around me...I'm satisfied with being single for life ^^

      Hehe, it's okay.

The second still means a lot( and I really thank u for sharing this, or rather for answering my question that would have made someone mad by now n hope u r not).

In previous replies u said that this anime( sorry, manga) can go very long depending on the author (I understand the money case too or why would they publish it anyways), but if the story ends like they ditch each other in the end or get married in few chapters and boom...the manga is over ( that will really spoil the flow)..till now everything was set well in place but what if the break affects the plot(some breaks can even be extended, who knows)
      I know I m kinda typing like a stupid cause I m really out of words.. :)

    5. It depends, I think based on the manga I've read.

Yes, it will spoil the flow. It will become rushed and noticeably so. For example, high school first and second year took a lot of chapters, then on the third year, it is wrapped up in 10 or less chapters. ^^; Of course, it also depends if the mangaka has ran out of ideas to prolong the story. Everything is suddenly resolved...the love rival suddenly gives up..a character suddenly doing out of the ordinary, stuff like that.
