Kedamono Kareshi [Chapter 43]

On his bed, Keita is busy making himself irritated over Himari with either Ryou or Kuroda..well, mostly Kuroda that he had to loudly curse over him. This startles his mother who is in the kitchen. He is frustrated that those people still bother[/influence] him when he basically left that house. He plans to force himself to somehow slowly forget about Himari but.. He looks at their photo together on his cellphone. Recalling his two rivals, he thinks that obviously he decided to leave the house but he is still concerned everything about her. He is angry over Himari saying that she is similar with that guy, and could it be because of that, they’ve so close. He wonders if it is because he always kept it on his cellphone and didn’t delete it. He is about to delete it but had once again hesitated. After sitting up, he was startled by his mother calling out if it is okay that he’ll be late for work. While hurrying up, Keita shouts that he’s going, and he scolds his mother for not reminding him about it earlier.

As he goes out of the house to go to work, his mother tries to say something. He turns around and says regarding her work, she shouldn’t force herself since he’ll be troubled if she faints again. Just when she feels awkward about this, Keita tells her that he is also working so she doesn’t have to worry, and just pay attention to her health. Surprised by his concern, his mother thanks him and tells him to take care on his way. Somewhat flustered Keita glances at her then says that he’s going. While walking, he thinks that it has already been a week since he’s living with his mother. He didn’t think that he can actually talk with her normally because from the start, their interaction is very awkward. He wonders if it is because of Himari’s influence. Then, he gets angry at himself for thinking of her again when he wanted to forget about her. His cellphone vibrates. It is a message from his ex-girlfriend Reimi who wants to talk with him at the station tonight. She urged him to come for she’ll always wait for him.

That night, Keita meets up with Reimi who is sitting by some railing outside the station. He asks her what is the reason this time for her to call him out. He tells her that he is very tired after getting off work. Reimi is hesitant to tell him that Keita threatens to leave if she doesn’t quickly say it. Just when he is about to leave, Reimi calls out to him. She tells him that her parents had decided to divorce. She calls her parents very selfish since they are only thinking of themselves. They didn’t even consider her feelings that in the end, they were talking about divorce. She already doesn’t know what to do so she left her house since she doesn’t want to go back to that kind of place. She says that it is only Keita whom she can talk about it. He tells her that as it is, even if she runs away from her house, it won’t change anything. Reimi protests that she doesn’t want to go back. After recalling his own memories about his parents fighting and the happy times he shared with her, Keita looks at his phone and it is already 22:24. He looks at the empty street and decides to invite her to his house. This surprises Reimi. Keita tells her that he isn’t alone for right now, he is living with his mother. He also tells her that it isn’t like he is always going to let her stay, but rather, he’ll wait for her to calm down before talking about it again. At the apartment, Keita explains the situation to his mother as to why he brought his girl home.

Reimi bows and apologizes for suddenly coming and causing inconvenience but there is no other place she can go, yoroshiku [/I’m under your care]. Keita tells his mother that it cannot be helped for she always says that she won’t go home. Seeing Reimi’s flustered expression, Keita’s mother smile and says that the house is narrow [/badly off] so if she doesn’t mind then she is more than welcome. She also says that Reimi also used to take care of Keita before. Delighted Reimi bows again and says her thanks. Keita’s mother asks if it is okay for her to sleep with her. Reimi says that it is okay. Later on, in his room, Keita is looking at his cellphone when Reimi knocks on his door. She asks if she can come in. After sitting up, Keita says okay. After coming in, Reimi thanks him again for letting her stay since the circumstances when they parted before wasn’t a pleasant one. Keita tells her not to bring up the past. Then, Reimi asks why he is staying here, for wasn’t he getting along well with his new family. Glancing out the room, Reimi says that he would even stay together with the mother he resented. Also, about that girl, didn’t he like her? Keita says that a lot of things happened for him and for her [/Himari]. Then, the last scene is still Ryou holding on to Himari’s wrist.

Comment: And, we get to know what’s happening with Keita. Obviously, he still misses her and still likes Himari. He is trying to forget but wasn’t able to. Of course, it has only been a week so it won’t be that easy. Things are slowly becoming okay between him and his mother even if it is awkward. It’s good though that he had shown that he somehow cared about his mother rather than using her as an excuse to get out of the house. I’m wondering though why she is living in a very small house and overworking herself. I had assumed that she should have gotten some money and asset from the divorce unless it is because she is the one who wanted it. I forgot if there is an ‘other man’ involved with the divorce aside from the two always quarreling and his father not having enough time for her. In a way, I think the mother isn’t as bad as Keita thinks that she is. At least, she isn’t too thick-faced to ask for some money/support from her ex-husband. I’m sure Shigeru would want to help her a bit and most probably, Keiko would agree to it. But then, if the reason is loneliness, why would she leave Keita with the father? Support isn’t an issue since she can more or less get that from his father. Hm..I’m not sure this issue will be addressed though. From her outfit here, it seems that she is sickly so maybe she doesn’t think she is fit enough to take care of him?

Anyway, Reimi is quite brazen to make Keita listen to her problems after what had happened before. Well, she tried her luck and got a favorable response. She is correct in thanking him for it though I think she’s overpassing the line of being a ‘guest’ by being too nosy about why Keita lives with his mother, and if he likes Himari. Strangely enough, and maybe Himari did had an influence on him, that he replied nicely to her intruding questions rather than saying, ‘it is none of your business’. Well, he did invite her to his house and given his personality, that is already something. Maybe out of, old time’s sake? Well, she was there for him before. We do not know the reason why Reimi’s parents are divorcing but if it is quarreling and cannot get along with each other, I think it is better to divorce rather than be miserable with each other. Even if they stay together for the kids, I think the ‘foul mood’ between the parents can affect the child in some way. Well, of course, it is a case to case basis if the parents’ relationship is really bad or not. It seems that for Reimi it is better for her parents to be miserable for her sake. Though, they might still be able to bear with it a few more years until Reimi moves out. ^^; Anyway, I wonder if the reason why Reimi is back is for her to be Himari’s rival again or it would focus more on the divorce stuff affecting the children. Maybe both? It is amusing though that with this, Keita’s mother would think that Reimi is still together with Keita, whereas Himari’s mother is thinking that Himari is with Ryou. ^^;  Scans by all★wink汉化组
