Blog Status: Two Some Series Dropped

[Edit: 10/19 - Thank you guys for the feedback ^-^ I’m really happy that you guys still want to read my summaries despite there being other translations. So for the time being, I’ll retain the mentioned series except for Kedamono Kareshi and Rere Hello which are dropped. Kedamono Kareshi is dropped because it has the dreaded zero comments in the last chapter and my interest for that series is almost zero. ^^;; Honestly, I did drop it before due to the same reason as below but a few people requested it again then well..this time, it is really dropped. Sorry~ Rere Hello is dropped because no one mentioned about it. Anyway, I only started it recently so there isn’t much attachment to it in terms of summaries. ]

This has been on my mind for a couple of months now: to drop or not to drop some series. In summarizing series, there have always been two major conditions for me to do it. Those are: I like it and/or a lot of readers like it. The original reason for this blog is to tell you what’s going on in a series that aren’t updated in English scanlations/summaries. Next, I summarized them so that we can discuss and talk about them. So, if there are zero or few comments, and I’m no longer interested in them, any enthusiasm towards working on the said series tends to plummet. ^^; If you have been a long time reader, you’ll know that I tend to drop series that are already been summarized/scanlated by others and if it is updated up to the latest chapter. The reason for that is what’s the point of doing multiple translations of the same series when there are still many manga out there not being translated in English?

Also, if they come out first, honestly, would readers bother to read mine when it is almost the same? ^^; I’m not too keen on doing some contest with other translations on who gets it out first. Lol, I tend to raise the white flag first and do other series. Hehe, of course, the problem with the other series that aren’t updated is they aren’t popular/liked by a lot of readers ^^;; I currently have a few and I’m always debating with myself whether to continue those or not. For some updated series’ summaries, there are special cases when it is a series that has a lot of comments/discussions like Skip Beat! I admit that there is some hesitation especially if it is a series that I started to summarize from chapter 1 and there are some that are fun to summarize. But, well, I have to let them go for others to do especially since the ones doing them aren’t in summary form and come out earlier or just a few days behind the Chinese ones. And, it is from the Chinese ones that I base my summaries.

I’m sure a lot of you already know of mangalator/raffmanga. They have raws and people can put translations right on top on them. It’s actually pretty cool and faster to do than scanlations ^^ I only write in summary form because I prefer to tell it as a story rather than translate only the script which is boring for me. I’m sure a lot of you would prefer to read it in a ‘scanlation’-kind of way. So, with that in mind, I’ll refer you guys to the people who are already doing the series that I’m working on. That means, I’m no longer summarizing these series. Oh ya, I would still be reading the Chinese scanlations so please don’t spoil me on whatever happens in the English translations. Thank you ^^ Also, thank you for reading my summaries of these series up to this point. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!

[Ah, people have to log on to read it. Since it isn’t open, I’ll resume this one but it is posted here for the ones who want to log on and read it there.]

Last Game has already been updated in English scanlation so readers only have to wait a few days/couple of weeks and it is out. I’m still contemplating whether to continue this one or not so I’ll use the next chapter as the gauge. If there is a progress and things are interesting in the next chapter, I’ll continue. If not and it is dragging again, I’ll drop it.

So, what’s left are: From Five to Nine, Hirunaka no Ryuusei (last two chapters), Kanojo wa Uso wa Aishisugiteru, Kobayashi ga Kawai Sugite Tsurai!!, Kimi ni Todoke, Last Game (it depends), Ookami-heika no Hanayome, Shuriken to Pleats (still on probation), Skip Beat!, Sleeping Beauty (last four chapters) and Sugar*Soldier.

As for replacements for the dropped ones, I have a few that I’m interested in. There are also some chapters that I’m interested in doing but not to the extent of writing all of the chapters. The latter ones would be on ‘previews’ since that is more of writing it for myself. =P Anyway, things are flexible here so I’m not really restricted to finish or complete all chapters of a certain series. ^^ Dropped series can still be picked up if I’m and you’re still interested in them. So, tell me if you got any comments, suggestions, violent reactions, objections, etc. regarding this decision. ^^

  2. Well rather than waiting for scanlations I'd prefer to wait for your summary because its more fun and interesting to read your comments on the chapter and speculations. coz I usually open your blog everyday to read any summary you have on especially Hibi Chouchou and Last Game rather than waiting for it magascans website plus I prefer to read your 1 page summary than having to skim through the 32 pages of scanlated chapter. its more simple that way. its just my opinion though~~ its still your choice that is the most important and I'd very much respect that. Thank you so much for all your hard work Kat~~

  3. Well I can understand when a blogger wants to drop some of the series he/she is working on.
It is sad for the fans of the above-mentioned series but at the same time, we can't blame you, it is a voluntary work so you can summarize or drop what you want = Democracy.

    ***TIP***

Let's suppose that in the future, the translation work is discontinued on Raff's Mangalator, from experience, no series is entirely dropped, sometimes there would be ahead summaries on "live journal" or any other site similar to blogger. I have a "trick" for spotting summaries for ongoing mangas, I usually go to the series' page on sites like mangafox, mangago, mangahere and I go as much as I can through the comments or the forum threads, sometimes there would be users who leave the link for so and so chapter of this or that series on livejournal for instance. (some also upload the translated chapter on sharing websites like mediafire etc.) and leave the link in the comments (all links should be scanned for virus/malware before clicking and downloading). I use in my browser Dr.Web Link Checker, Safe Preview and Wot for site's reputation. For online scanning: www.virustotal.com is a good option.
This means that one needs to diversify when it comes to blogging and sharing platforms and not be entirely dependent on one blog or one person.

    ***Suggestion***

It would be nice if you decide in the future to drop one of the other series you've mentioned to give a heads-up a month prior to the release of the new chapter. It would lessen the psychological impact. You don't want to give anyone a heart-attack hhhhh! lol :p
Of course it is just a suggestion, you can do whatever suits you best ^^ thanks for the heads-up and for everything else ^^

I was just about to point out how KGKST requires log in so im glad youre kind enough to still resume it; also, it was translated only recently in mangalator so i was unsure if the translator there would keep continuing so really, thanks for keeping it :) i feel sorry for the other people who are fans of the other mangas you dropped because we all love your summaries and look forward to your comments but i respect your decision, its your choice that matters most! i mostly come here for kobayashi summaries but still, thanks for all your hardwork for the other mangas!!

And for a suggestion: Haru Matsu Bokura, maybe you're net reading it yet, but it's such a great plot, with reverse harem, love trangle and childhood friend/ love.

I knew about raffmanga and mangalator, though only look at the raws, not the translations, as the 'translations' just don't do it for me. I love you're summaries and opinions about the series. Tho Hirunaka no Ryuusei's translations are very caught up, I'm glad you didn't drop it with only these two last chapters left. I'd rather read your summary before going to the english translation... I would be braced to read it and bear the bad news to come ><

I don't care much for the other series you want to continue summarizing besides skipbeat. Can you please summarize other series?

  43. Kat,

I didn't realize how much emphasis you put on comments! I hardly comment, but I open up your blog each and every day. You have such a unique style to your summaries and I love hearing your two cents at the bottom of the summary. I actually do not like raff manga as much because I feel like it is tedious to have to scroll over all the words, but your summaries are so concise! I love Last Game, Kobayashi, and many others you do here and have done in the past. I've been a fan of yours for years and your decisions are always for the better. I will try my best to comment more often to show you I'm still here!

Also, I have a suggestion. If you ARE dropping a few and are interested in taking on more, what about Hachimitsu ni Hatsukoi? I know you used to summarize it before and you've since then decided to drop it, but I can't find anyone else who is summarizing it. The RAWs come out so often and the story has developed so much but I have no idea what is going on outside of the context of the pictures. There is a group that are translating the chapters, but they have so many other projects so I hardly see a new chapter and already there are close to 60 chapters! Is there any way you'd reconsider HnH?

      Sorry, no. I have read a bit of it but it is still not that interesting for me to pick it up again. Last chapter I read, the guy might go far away so they'll have a long distance relationship..and while he is away for some training, other guy is making moves on the girl. ^^;

I often read mangas on raffmanga and I am bored very fast because of the speech bubbles but I find it very interesting to read your summaries because you even write funny comments at the end of the summarized chapters or even interesting comments and I like your quotes besides It's funny when people write comments here about some of your summaries but the comments at mangalator are boring...
Plus your summaries are more understandable then the stupid speech bubbles because people can understand the story better trough summaries than speech bubbles :p

  51. I prefer a hundred bunch of times to read your summaries, mangalator is not the only option you can´t comment like we do on your blog that even gives us hints, I love your comments and also Mangalator never has all the pages translated even some dialogues are horrid or don´t match with a very poor english on them for translation (almost all of them) also I hate to have to point each ialoge to read and to make it worse not being completely translated sometimes they even write "I don´t know what he is saying here" it gives you a hint of what is happening but its not complete. I respect your desicion but really, its not the same to read a summary than read the whole thing translated or quite translated. Also I love your daily quotes. Don´t stop summarizing please.

  52. Aww.. I'm disappointed that you dropped Rere Hello. :( Its one of the only manga summaries (and Skip Beat) that I read from you website, and you usually have the Rere Hello chapter summaries up before the translation, but I guess I understand your decision...

Anyways, thanks for you hard work in putting up all these summaries up, regardless!
    :)

  54. Hi, Kat, it's Sangataa again ^^ First of all, I want to thank you for the links that you gave me last week for Akatsuki no Yona summaries. It's really helpful, I was able to catch up with the recent chapter in two days ^^ But no matter which keywords that I use, chapter 60 an 61 is nowhere to be seen. It's seems like sorasan and hasizuki didn't want to translate this chapter since it was flashback chapter. So I here to made a request for you to translate those chapter ^^ There is nobody else who did it before. Please consider it, Kat <3

I actually have summarized it on the tagboard before for sofia. And to my o_O , my backup for it is gone. Anyway, I'll just re-write it here and it won't be that detailed. Just give you an idea, okay?

Yona is attracted to the sparkling lights of the cities that Suwon asks if she has never gone outside the palace. Haku teases that Yona tends to get lost, that's the reason why. Yona starts throwing things at Haku. To the two's irritation, Suwon says that their relationship [Haku and Yona] is quite good. Yona is sad that according to her father, she cannot go out because it is dangerous. Suwon asks if she wants to go out. After some hesitation, Yona says yes.

Then, Yona is timid in going out as the two boys assure her that it is okay. It is only when Haku teases her for being a coward that she finally goes out and becomes amazed of the sights she sees. There is a 5 general meeting currently being held so they are using that opportunity to go out. Haku asks how come Suwon knows this secret path. Suwon says that it is some adventure every visiting day[?] . Yona asks if they always go here. Haku says that he goes with his grandpa. Suwon says that she can count on her fingers the times he had gone there.

Then, Yona wants to see something but she is short so Haku puts her on his shoulders. Then, Suwon who is almost lost held hands with Haku. Suwon comments about it feeling like having a brother. Haku says that there are many brats in the wind tribe and it is more relaxing to deal with them. Then, they see some guy frying [meat?] balls. Yona wants to try them but she doesn't know if they are poisoned. Haku decides to test for her. Just then, Suwon pushes Haku down for sky general is looking after them. They are shock that Haku looks ill that they start to say that he is poisoned. Suwon starts punching his stomach to get the poison out. ^^; After telling them to quit it and given some water by the store owner, Haku complains that they are more troublesome than the wind tribe brats.

The store owner asks for payment and is irritated that they are saying poison about his food. They got no money that Yona says that she'll get it from the palace. The boys cover her mouth. Then, Suwon tells him to wait a moment. He goes to a man, talks with him and comes back with a bag of money. After paying the owner, Haku is suspicious over why that man gives the money to Suwon that he asks him about it but Suwon always evades the question. Then, they talk about the musician whom they [Suwon and Yona] want their parents to listen to.

Yona bumps into Tejun so Haku apologizes in her behalf. Tejun refuses but they don't really listen to him. While Tejun argues with the two boys about apologizing, Yona wanders off and looks at some jewelry. A man asks if she wants him to buy it for her. Later on, the boys notice that Yona is missing. They left and Tejun is stopped by his brother for fooling around with some kids. Haku is frustrated for Yona is small so it won't be easy to find her. Suwon tells him to follow him.

At some place where drunks and gamblers hang out, they greet out to Suwon. Suwon tells Haku that he talks with this guys and they are good people. Haku starts to doubt that Suwon rarely comes out but rather, he always comes out. Suwon says that he gets to hear some interesting stories there. He asks them about seeing a lost red haired girl. They didn't. He asks the leader who is busy playing chess. The others warn that it is bad that girl is lost because lately, there are people selling children. Haku couldn't believe that it is happening there but the man says that even if the king is peaceloving, it isn't like bad things would just go away when he said it. The children are said to be sold to Kai.

    2. Serious Suwon asks the leader for help again but the leader asks for all sorts of favors regarding food. Suwon kept on asking that the leader throws wine at him to shut up. Haku goes in front and says that even if they are pestering him, Suwon isn't someone he can easily throw wine at. Giving him the stare, Haku warns him that if he is still asleep-drunk, he would gladly help him wake up. The leader looks away and the others realize that he lost to Haku's stare. The leader asks if the red haired girl is important. Suwon says yes. Then, Suwon helps him win the chess with one move. So, the leader got his men to start looking for Yona. Haku thinks that it seems that Suwon is amazing.

Flashback: The man asked Yona if she wants him to buy that for her. She refused and started looking for Haku and Suwon. Then, the man asked if she cannot find her way back. He grabbed her and told her that he’ll help her find her way. The leader repeats Yona’s description but Suwon refuses to tell her name. The leader asks if there are any special features. Suwon says that her eyes are big and she’s very cute. The leader seems satisfied with that and mentions to his men that she might have already encountered the human traffickers. Haku notices that there are a lot of people have gathered. So, they start looking for Yona by asking people around about her. They got a clue that it was a dark-skinned man who was with Yona the last time someone saw her. The leader thinks that he was right that Yona was taken.

Suwon asks him if it is possible to temporarily seal the town’s roads to other areas. The leader says that it is a bit troublesome but Suwon asks if it cannot be done. So, to prove that he can, the leader goes to do it. Haku learns about the plan to seal the roads and do a luggage inspection. Haku thinks that Suwon is amazing for with just one word, the whole city moves. After thinking of a lot of praises for Suwon, the two boys are talking about looking for suspicious person and the human trafficker won’t hurt Yona. They connect fist with hopes to find Yona. Haku sees a dark skinned guy and grabs him. It turns out to be earth general. It turns out that the five general meeting is over. Haku sees another dark skinned guy passing by him while pulling a cart. Seeing a huge bag on the cart, Haku jumps to the cart and opens the bag. Yona is inside. Haku says that they cannot bring this out of the city. Haku gives the guy a flying kick. Earth general is amazed. Suwon exclaims that Haku is amazing.

The man takes out a knife but Haku’s grandpa shove his face on the floor. The other man tries to escape but Sky general deals with him. Yona wakes up and hugs Haku. Then, Haku grandpa and Sky general reprimand the two boys. That night, the king is relieved that Yona is safe and he was really worried because it was only recently his wife died. Suwon says that it would be more difficult to get Yona out. The two blame each other for this. Haku says that he got Yona in danger that he might not be allowed back in the palace again. Suwon says that it won’t happen for Yona and the king like him. Haku isn’t convinced so Suwon says that even someone objects, he’ll convince that person.

Haku says he is amazed with Suwon to make those guys his friends and it seems that he is the center of the city. Suwon says it isn’t so, it is because Haku is at his side. He says that Haku is strong, dependable and cool. Suwon says that Haku’s everything is his goal. Haku rumples his hair and says that his goal is too small. Haku is amazed that this royalty who has an amazing ability would think of him as his goal. Haku says that he’s going home to get grandpa teach him martial/fighting skills and studying. Haku thinks that he cannot continue on being like that, he has to be someone worthy to be Suwon’s goal. In order for them to be forever be side by side [each other].

      That's it. ^^

    3. Yai!! As always, Haku save the day <3 Suwoon save the day <3 But considering the way Suwoon save Yona, I can conclude that Suwoon is never be an airheaded rabbit type since the childhood. Never judge a book by it's cover, isn't it Kat? He may look like a girl and carefree in first glance, even Yona see Suwoon like that, but the truth is he have his badass side too ^^ But what a shame that he have to be king in that way ._. Well, if he didn't kill King Il, the story will not happen in first place tho :v
A-ny-way~ As always Kat, thank for your hardwork. Love ya :*

    4. Yup, sangataa. Indeed, he is very clever since he was young. Of course, that is one side, the other side is he is quite secretive and cunning that makes Haku somewhat suspicious of him...evading the truth when asked. Doesn't it make you wonder at what point he kept that 'friend' face when in fact, he is already getting ready to do the deed that will destroy their relationship?

That's right. It is needed for the story to happen.

      Thanks for the comment ^^

  55. I don't know if anyone else has said it already, and I know it's further along, but Horimiya is fantastic and I think your summaries of it would be well appreciated. (I know you did one chapter of it a few months ago and that's actually how I found your blog..again. It was previously bookmarked.) Either way, thank you so much for doing this!!! :D

    1. Actually, I didn't summarize it, Jenny. I read only a few chapters but unfortunately, I didn't get into it. ^^; Also, there is no need to summarize it because after checking, the English scanlation is up to date.

      Thanks for reading them ^-^
