Hirunaka No Ryuusei [Chapter 71]

While Suzume’s left foot is hurting, Shishio casually comments over how unbelievable it is for her vigorous appetite to unexpectedly cause her to sprain her foot. She says that even if he were to say that, she also.. He tells her to not be easy-going during a match. She mentions that the bread is a famous Kari melonpan. He says that her eyes are sharp and it could be said that is her real motive. While Suzume is thinking that it is cool <- she is bandaged for the first time, he says that compared to not eating happily, this [<- eating a lot] is actually not quite bad. While Shishio is looking for something in the medicine tables, Suzume wonders how come after everything that has happened between them, they can still talk like how they used to. How come, at that time, their interaction isn’t the same as it is now? Suzume asks him how come he joined the competition when obviously he basically won’t join this kind of activity. He tells her that he is substituting for another teacher and even if that is the reason, but he also thought that through participating in this competition, he can change himself. Suzume is puzzled. He continues to say that after this competition, he plans to properly convey his feelings to her, and even if he said that, he lost the relay. He turns to look at her. He says that everyday, he regrets it because he wasn’t able to say his feelings so even if it is very willful of him, but he still wants to ask her to please listen to him until the end. Suzume looks surprised. To his surprise, she looks down and says that she couldn’t do it. “I don’t want to listen so please, don’t say anything more.” Shishio respects her wish and says okay, he understands, sorry. While Suzume felt stabbing pain on her foot, Shishio says that he’s going ahead and even if he bandaged her foot well for now, but she should get it checked at the hospital. He lightly pats her head and says goodbye. After he left, Suzume thinks that compared to that, her left chest feels heavier and it hurts so much. As Shishio leaves, the Mamura is just sitting by the hallway at the opposite direction. Mamura looks at the head band and realizes that the drawing is a horse. Narration: “Words that weren’t mentioned. Feelings not received. Pain. Heaviness. Condensed into lead and carrying me down the abyss.”
Later on, Yuyuka and Nana look aghast over Suzume’s injury for they fear pain. Monika comments that she is unexpectedly hurt quite seriously. Nana asks if she is alright. Suzume says that it is alright for her bone is strong and she has confidence in that. Since it is lunch time, she asks where Mamura is. Monika says that he ought to be at that side. Holding out her bento, Suzume says that her uncle made bento for her and she wants to share with Mamura. Nana exclaims that it is big, but then, would she really give some to Mamura. Nana tells her to go ahead and eat together. Suzume tries to protest but Nana says that it is okay, the three of them will just eat together. Suzume apologizes and thanks them. After she left, it turns out that Monika has two bento to eat with Inukai and even, Yuyuka is going to eat with someone..Togyuu. Nana couldn’t believe it but they can only apologize to her. Somewhere near the netted court/field, Mamura is sitting by his lonesome at a bench when Suzume exclaims that it turns out that he’s there when she was looking for him. She says that she brought a bento so they can eat together. She tells him that she has inarizushi [sushi which is put in fried tofu pouches] and fried chicken nuggets. Mamura takes the bento and asks if her foot is okay. Thinking that he knew about her foot, she says that it is okay. Suzume says compared to that, they should eat first, and it’s delicious. While watching her wolfing down the food as fast as she can, Mamura says that for her to eat a lot in one breath, in the end, she totally didn’t think of sharing it with him. Suzume asks what..then, she starts to choke. Mamura asks if she is alright. She apologizes and says that she is okay. Mamura says that a baran [plastic green leaf decoration in sushi] is sticking on her face and how did that stick to her face. She asks where, where. He reaches out and says here. He removes it for her. He smiles and tells her that she is really an idiot. Suzume thanks him. Holding her forehead, she thinks that he smiled and he didn’t flick her forehead today. While holding an onigiri [rice ball], Mamura says that it is already summer. Suzume says, ya. He says that it is quite hot. And with their hands a few centimeters from each other, Suzume thinks that her left foot really hurts and the words that weren’t mentioned, feelings not received, hands that didn’t touch, condensed into lead. Blurb: “Series go on a break and will resume on August 5th.”
Comment: It seems like this round is a stalemate. Shishio did manage to get some time with Suzume but then, unfortunately for him, Suzume doesn’t want to hear what he wants to say. I’m thinking, she must have thought something like ‘I don’t care what is your excuse for it didn’t change the fact that you did reject me before and I was really hurt then. Now I’m trying to move on and you’re saying that you actually like me. Who do you think you are..just shut up.’ Hehe..of course, she is a nice girl so she won’t be saying that. Nevertheless, from what Suzume is feeling, it seems that she wants to hear what he has to say and that is probably the heavy pain that she is feeling. Or probably from rebuffing Shishio? In a way, I think that narration can be applied to all three and all three have that heavy feeling. I also have a heavy feeling after reading this chapter. ^^; Suzume probably also wants to say something but decided not to and can we say, she’s running away? Shishio was stopped from saying it and I guess if there is no positive progress for him with Suzume, he’ll have something to regret for a long time. Mamura probably also want to say something but then, what can he say to Suzume after seeing that scene. I really wonder what Mamura is thinking there. He is acting normal yet not so normal. Suzume already noticed the subtle change yet she is totally clueless or rather, probably dismisses it as nothing. Is Mamura a loner before? It should be a ‘flag’ on why would he be all alone there during lunch time, and not with his friends. Is this what, a calm before the storm? Well, I guess these two needs a lot of thinking after what had happened. Does Suzume still loves Shishio or not, if yes, byebye Mamura? If not, then things are okay though still, time will tell if she’ll really fall for Mamura. I think that’s always been the problem with going steady with one person is just half-hearted about it while the other person is always hoping that something good will happen. And, Mamura would have to think if he still wants to be with a girl who doesn’t seem to really love him as he loves her and should he still expect it for it to get to that point. Or, at this stage, it is better to just let her go. Anyway, since the mangaka is going to take a break, maybe she is going to decide in finality on who will be the guy for Suzume in the coming chapters and it seems that the setting then, will be summer time. 1. It happened as I predicted, but Mamura is hurting more than both Suzume and Shisio. His feelings aren't really return but use as a rebound. That's worse than then the others' situation. I hope they Suzume falls in love with him for real soon.

    1. True, Moa. That ought to really hurt.

      After reading some Chinese comments, it seems that for some, Suzume not wanting to hear what Shishio has to say is because it will waver her feelings, if there are any, for Mamura. Hm..if it is like that, I'm starting to not expect that Suzume would really fall for Mamura. ^^;

    1. I'm not sure what you are asking, Manuela. But this chapter is a part of the story..not the whole story. The latest chapter of the series.

    2. Thanks! My question is about the part that says that the ''series go on a break and will resume on August 5th'' is it the hole story? or just this part of the story?

    3. The whole story, Manuela. This series comes out twice a month. So, it basically means, there is no chapter on July 20th but it is back to regular release on August 5th.

  3. I think you just said what Suzume was really thinking. And I think that she really wants to move on with Mamura. After all, it's Mamura's goodwill to go out with her even though he knows that Suzume doesn't like him romantically. But there's a wishful thinking I have that Suzume will truly fall in love with Mamura. I'm still believing that a rebound can even turn into true love. Of course, I'm rooting for Mamura. In stories having love triangles especially those with two guys fighting for a girl's affection, I find the loser guy to be so pitiful. Because in spite of all the efforts they give for such (commonly plain) girls, they will still chose those guys who hurt them so badly. (Well, if you know Heroine Shikkaku, you can relate with this one.) You know the part where you want the other guy to be real then have them for yourself? Haha. But well, I think Mamura is thinking that even if Suzume doesn't return his feelings immediately, she'll turn back and look at him, wait for him and walk forward with him. That's what I think with this. Every human has a pride but in this story, it seemed that Mamura abandoned it and patiently waiting for the girl who might even never love him back.

    Argghhh. Why do I really feel that this end is certain? And the one that Suzume choose will be Shishio. 80% probable.

    1. Is that so, hana ^^

      True..well, it can be wishful thinking..and ya, loser guys in a love triangle can be quite pitiful.

      It seems like that..in a way because of how she's acting..I think she's wavering.

    1. Indeed...love triangles tend to be like that especially with no 'fixed' couple pairing..it can be either of the two, depending on the mangaka's wish.

  6. Haha...so many I'm reading are at this weird limbo stage with lots of heaviness...bad timing I guess. She is trying to love Mamura, which is kinda sad to me that it is work, but not that hard of work...seems like her mind is made up to give Mamura a fair shot. But I am proud of her for doing what is right while she is in a relationship, and not wanting to be tempted away. If it doesn't work out with Mamura, then I hope she figures things out with sensei.

    1. Hehe, is that so.

      True..but I think she'll be distracted because of what Shishio tried to tell her.

      Hehe..most likely, yes, if it didn't work out with Mamura, it will be Shishio's chance.

    2. I hate sensei. Mamura is going to be alone then! He's already so sweet to her. Someone has to help them to be together.

      Delete
    3. Ah..yes, most likely. Well, aside from that, I think it pretty much depends on Suzume.

  7. I honestly really hope Suzume ends up with Mamura. I have nothing against Shishio but Mamura is so much better for her. I hope it ends up like Tonari no Atashi >,<

  8. I feel satisfied with this chapter :) Shishio had his chance to confess properly towards Suzume but Suzume did not want to hear. That's their fate - they are now on different pages. In which, Shishio lost his love that was precious to him - this could be second time. She may decide to be with Mamura. And I see Shishio also did not push her to reply or beg any line from her after knowing being rejected. So I do not have anything to complain and hope Suzume will be fine with her decision. Love is indeed confusing in their situation - Suzume may wonder or be curious what Shishio wanted to say. But she's also a strong type - after being dumped by Shishio, she re-gains and does not hurt herself too much. Being lovelorn is a kind of uneasy, uncomfortable feeling - someone may take some months, even some years to overcome. However, she can continue her path with a hope, so it's good for her and others in the long term. I think "being deserved" (for instance: he does not deserve to have her or she is not good enough to become his sweetheart) is not necessary to be mentioned when it comes to love. Because in case they were put into Suzume's shoes, they may understand. When we do not fall into their situation, we tend to state from our views. The perspective of external parties and internal parties is not the same :D Even twins get their differences.

    Thank you so much for summary, Kat ^^

    1. Yup, Trang..it is her decision and well, he tried to explain..even if it is quite too late. Time will tell if she would still want to hear it and how she'll react to it which will more or less decide if her relationship with Mamura last longer or not.

      Indeed, it is hard to say or understand if there is love. 'Deserving/compatibility' don't quite fit in love relationships. True, it is like a parent/friends saying that the person one whom is going out with isn't for him/her with total disregard of emotions. Of course, it is better to partly listen to them at times since they are more 'sober' and can see things clearly since they are not intoxicated with love. And yes, in the end, it is all depending on the decision the person makes which hopefully don't have regrets.

      Thanks for reading ^-^

  9. Thank you so much for posting this! You're my lifesaver! <3

    Anyways, I really hope that Suzume would fall in love with Mamura FOR REAL soon. I like Mamura and Suzume but if the author would choose that Suzume should end up with Shishio, then okay. (For me, Shishio has a higher chance for Suzume though again, I ship Mamura and Suzume more.)

    My ship will not sink, MamuraxSuzume. Shishio is hot so he probably will be mine. Haha! jk

      Is that so. Well, if the choice is made, the series would most probably end already.

      That is a usual response..lead girl don't like him, he's mine. =P

  10. NOOOOOOO..........I feel soo depressed. Why is Mamura sitting there cross legged ALL ALONE?? He is suffering!!! Why??? Why does that girl not understand??? Suzume, I beg you, I beg you, please don't break his heart. Please. Why does it seem to me that her feelings are half-hearted??? God, help me. Kat, I'm soo soo soooo grateful that you translated this chapter. I am so happy a person like you exists. Thank you. Thank you so much. But why does the mangaka want to take a break??? That will kill me more.....Kat, I've asked you before if you prefer Suzume to be with sensei or Mamura, and I remember you said Mamura. Do you have anything to say on this? I feel so disappointed at how Mamura seems so pitiful...Do you think he has a chance to be with her? Oh, god... the suspense is killing me.

    1. Ya..it is sad to see him like that. The chances of her breaking his heart is somewhat high. As you've mentioned, it seems that she is half-hearted on this..well, it is more obvious now with Shishio back on the run. Being the nice guy he is, Mamura might 'set her free'.

      Thanks for reading ^-^

      It wasn't mentioned why she is taking a break. Since this series is supposedly ending this year, I'm ASSUMING that the mangaka might be thinking of who'll Suzume will end up with. ^^;

      For now, I think his chances is like 40%? The way Suzume is acting over Shishio isn't too assuring that she will fall in love with him soon.

    2. I want to thank you all over again. Thank you for doing the summaries for so many mangas. Thank you also for replying to my depressing message up there. I really hope that Suzume ends up with Mamura though. He worked so hard for her. And if he 'sets her free', it would truly break his heart. (and the readers) But honestly, I'm really pinning for them. I'm praying hard...
