Kimi ni Todoke [Chapter 91]

Sawako and Ume are quietly studying when Sawako notices the time. She mentions to Ume that it is time to go to cram class. While walking, Ume mentions about not wanting Sawako seeing her goofing off and when she’s with Sawako, she could concentrate. Sawako starts telling her that it is the same with her since her thoughts tend to wander off. Then, Ume confesses about realizing something about herself wherein she tends to stare off at times when there is no progress with her studies but with Sawako, she can naturally concentrate which is a great help. When Ume starts becoming embarrassed over what she’s saying, Sawako also tells her that they are even since upon hearing Ume’s aspiration and going to cram school, she also went there and studied with her. Sawako says that it fires up her fighting spirit. Sawako invites Ume to go to her house after cram school since there is no school tomorrow. Ume declines which made Sawako apologize for being overly excited [to invite her]. It turns out that Ume is declining for today since she isn’t prepared for an overnight stay that day. And, it is back to school, Sawako and Shouta came to school almost at the same time. He yawns and notices that Sawako also yawns loudly. After a laugh, he greets her a good morning. They talk a bit about studying and Shouta goes with his friends. They do their own thing and Sawako observes that their time together is becoming fewer. At night, Sawako emails Shouta that she came home from cram school which has ended. After Shouta replied back, Sawako calls him. After greeting each other ‘good work’[otsukaresama deshita], Sawako notices that he is sleepy. He mentions about not being fully awake since early morning. This causes her to worry. He is about to tell her that he is okay but instead, says that he couldn’t barely stand up[/support himself]. This made her worry and mentions about checking on some nutrients that can help him. He asks her to laugh. After Sawako tries to please him with her ‘stiff’ laughs thrice, he laughs which made Sawako start to worry if he is alright. He asks her to call him, ‘Shouta’ which she did. It made him blush and says that his nutrient supplement is complete. This made Sawako realize his intention.
He mentions about not being able to be alone together lately since it is only occasionally eating lunch together and they don’t go home together. Sawako wants to see him but since he is struggling, she couldn’t bring herself to say it for she is also working hard. Shouta tells her that he still wants them to see each other alone so they’ll meet in the morning, earlier than everyone else. This made Sawako asks if he isn’t forcing himself. To her shock, Shouta admits to her that right now, he is already forcing himself [/having a hard time with this]. Freaking out, she apologizes and decides to hang the phone for interrupting him and she did a bad thing. The phone rings and Shouta angrily says, hey. She freaks out again since he’s angry. She kept on apologizing that he explains that not creating time alone would be making things difficult for him[/make him force himself]. He tells her to keep in mind that he likes her the most. She exclaims okay. So, the next day, they meet early in the morning in class. After yawning almost at the same time, they greet each other good morning. When Shouta mentions that he is very happy since they get to be alone, she tells him that she is also very happy and for him to say that yesterday. She says that she’s happy to hear his voice even if they didn’t see each other. This made Shouta glad. She also tells him to keep in mind that she likes him the most, and she might be saying some willful things at times. Shouta smiles and says that he’s happy. She tells him to tell her if he’s forcing himself. He just says yes and mentions about wanting her to say some willful things. So, that’s their morning date. At night, jogging Ryu sees Chizuru waiting for him. She stands up and says that she knew that he’s coming. He blushes and she starts to scold him for being quite late and she’s itchy because of the mosquitoes. He informs her that they’ve won. While thinking that’s great and congrats, She just says, ya, she heard. He says that he’ll also win the next one. While telling him ya, Chizuru thinks that he must absolutely win. He says because he wants to go to advance to all-Hokkaido [<-全道/ major baseball competition in Hokkaido]. Thinking that he must not lose, she says ya. He strokes her hair and bids her good night. As he left, Chizuru recalls someone asking her why she is studied at that high school and she says because no matter what, she wants to cheer for Ryu and she’s the person who wants to cheer on him the most.
At school again, Kent mentions to a friend about not going to the canteen with him for a long time. The friend says that it is because he is always eating with his girlfriend. Recalling what school Ayane wants to go, Kent mentions about his friend also always eating with a girl. Then, Kent notices Ayane’s favorite bread on sale so he wants to buy it. After telling his friend to go ahead, Kent suddenly calls out for his friend ‘don’t go’ then he apologizes to the friend by saying that he’s practicing. Meanwhile, the three girls are on the roof to eat lunch together. After some complaints from Ayane that they’ll get sunburned, Sawako is moved since it has been a long time since they get to eat together. They also don’t get to be together after school since Chizuru has work and the other two go to cram school. Recalling Kent, Ayane asks Chizuru about her and Ryu. Chizuru mutters then shouts that their relationship is not bad. The two are happy for her. She says that even so, she’s really awful. Chizuru is getting too excited about this that the other two tells her to calm down and what is it. Chizuru tells them that in high school, she thought of becoming the manager of the baseball club but she felt that it’s wrong for that is the world that Ryu worked hard in and even if she wants to cheer him, she always felt that she shouldn’t meddle. It is possible that at that time, she likes Tooru and she don’t quite understand but she is always cheering Ryu on and she felt that she is his biggest supporter and she wants to be that person no matter what. So in short, she wholeheartedly want to cheer him on and always want to do that but right now, she couldn’t cheer for him for she just don’t want to separate from him. This seems to surprise the other two. She tells them that if Ryu achieved it, he will use baseball to go to college and go to a far place. Obviously, he works so hard but she couldn’t cheer him on and she is doing something that she doesn’t want to do the most. “I’m obstructing [/holding back] Ryu. I obviously like him. Because I like him so I cannot cheer him on. I’m truly quite awful..” Kent who is standing behind the door overhears them. Later on, Sawako goes to the classroom and sees Shouta napping on the desk. She thinks that he is always studying until it’s very late. She strokes his hair and recalls what Chizuru mentioned earlier. Sawako thinks that for her, Shouta is forcing himself.
Comment: Sawako and Ume bonding nicely and becoming good friends. It is nice how Shouta insists on time together with Sawako. The two are becoming more vocal about what they want and what they feel. As time moves on, the problem still remains regarding the possibility of separating with one’s lover who’ll go away to pursue his/her dreams. Well, for the ones who’ll be left behind, the problems is to support or stop them from leaving. After overhearing that, Kent might change his mind about telling Ayane not to go. Chizuru still couldn’t bring herself to cheer Ryu on. Shouta is going with the flow and well, it is already mentioned that he won’t say it and let Sawako decide on it. In a way, he is similar with Kent in doing their best to catch up with their girlfriends who are better/more ambitious than them. I wonder how Sawako and Ayane would think/act after hearing the side of someone who’ll be left behind. Scans by 工作室

  2. Good work Kat, this is one of the most sweet stories out there, though I never actually ventured to read it because it was incomplete. I only saw the anime (seasons 1 and 2). It is a cute one nonetheless.

  3. Thanks so much as usual, Kat!! I'm finally free grom college, so I plan on spending my days off reading the series you suggested last month! Anyway, as for the chapter, I keep feeling terrible for Kento but I'm so in love with the Person Kazehaya is becoming, he's impressing me quite a lot lately. The Ryu and Chizuru scenes are being adorable and it's nice to see her finally explainign why she didn't manage the baseball club (which would make perfect sense), I worry for Chizu but I feel like Ryu too is pretty aware that he's messing it up a bit with how long it took him to tell her and how he's been avoiding bringing it up that he plans on leaving and stuff. Ack, can't get over how miserable Kent is gonna be haha, tbh, I'm feeling bad for pretty much everyone right now, like, Ryu's clearly working super hard and all Chizu can say is "ya ya ya" when she truly wants to be supportive (though I love that she's being selfish/possessive since it's very her) and I know their story will still have a couple more fights in their way, Ayane is making a mess out of her life right now and the only couple "working" fully is SawaKaze though it's clearly just peace before a big storm breaks. ANYWAY, once again, thanks so much for the summaries! Earlier this week I've started reading Kyou no Kira Kun and caught up with it just to find out you write summaries for it too! You're a blessing! HAHA Thanks!! <3

    1. You're welcome, Thatu ^-^

      Congratulations ^^

      Indeed.

As for Kent..I'm preparing myself for that...well, more or less, prepared. =P

Possible..and hopefully, it won't shake things too much for the main couple though it seems Shouta is somewhat prepared for the possibility of her leaving him temporarily for college.

Thanks for reading and the comment ^-^

  5. Thank you Kat, as always for your awesome summary! Wish I could turn this thanks into a million dollars for ya to keep it up haha!

This story right now is very true to life. Brings back memories of my college days. I left my boyfriend of two years to go to college 2,000 miles away. But I missed him so much and the long distance relationship was hard, so I only went for one school year then came back and finished at a local college. We are celebrating 14 years of marriage this summer haha. I made a sacrifice on my schooling, but don't regret it at all.

It feels like the last few chapters have been pretty boring since it is just dealing with the characters
indecisiveness and studying for entrance exams, etc. I miss the romance. It is VERY true to life right now haha. Just boring with the weight of big decisions on everyone's shoulders. The humor and love/passion of this manga is momentarily gone. Hoping it comes back a little, and soon.

Wow, is that so. ^^ Congrats ^^

Indeed...it is basically that lately. Hopefully ^^ Though in some way, I think the manga try to inject that a bit with the main couple's lovey dovey.

  6. Thank you Kat !
There's a mistake, 'Chiharu' instead of Chizuru.

This chapter is another good one about life. I love it. Sawako and Ume have a special bond, I like that they're slowly becoming good friends.
Chizuru explaining why she wants to support Ryu, to the extent that she wanted to manage the baseball club, this is sweet. She always wants to support him and now she can't, I feel bad for her.
The main couple is adorable :)
