Sleeping Beauty [Chapter 9]

Cover page: “That, is a Pandora box that shouldn’t be opened..?” Yuki is surprised when Sou told her that Eiji’s attachment to Saki is totally frightening. While Yuki nervously wonder if Saki turns out to be very scared of Eiji, Sou looks at her. He quickly says that after Kousuke and Yoshiharu’s death, he might be a bit nervous. He apologizes for saying strange things. Yuki shakes her head for she understands that it is natural for him to be like that since two of his good friends passed away as well as Erika. Sou bids her goodbye since the train is coming. Yuki wonders if Sou is saying that her and Erika’s disappearance has something to do with Eiji. She thinks that Eiji isn’t that kind of person and she’s thinking too much. At the funeral, Yuuya calls out to Sou and says that he got something to tell him. He asks if he thinks that Kousuke and Yoshiharu committed suicide. Sou says that it isn’t clear so they are doing an investigation for it. Yuuya says that he said that he tripped down the railway platform and unfortunately, got injured but actually, someone pushed him. “It just so happen that the surveillance camera didn’t film that place so until now, the culprit wasn’t caught. *crosses arms* Truly scary..” Sou touches Yuuya’s head injury and warns him to be careful for there are some dangerous people everywhere. Keita calls out to Yuuya and asks if he can talk to him. He tells Yuuya that the day after Yoshiharu died, he told the police that he was together with Yuki that day. He asks if that is true. Yuuya says it is true, he was the one who called out Yuki that day and they are always together. Keita says that he obviously saw with his own eyes that Yoshiharu and Yuki went in together in the data storage room. “Why did you lie about that?” Yuuya mutters that Keita is an eye-witness. He says that Yuki said that she was with Yoshiharu but she didn’t know what happened. He tells Keita that he likes Yuki and he doesn’t want her to get involved in this kind of thing so he lied. “I’m sorry for making you misunderstand.” After looking surprised, Keita’s expression soften and he says, no..it wasn’t easy for them to become friends yet Kousuke and Yoshiharu would suddenly..they are good guys. Yuuya puts Keita’s head on his shoulder to comfort him. Sou looks at the side and notices Eiji at the corner of the house. As Sou goes to Eiji, Eiji informs him that Yoshiharu’s parents told him to get them to enjoy some vegetarian meal and does he want to come in. Sou says ya. Eiji says that he’ll inform them then. Sou tells Eiji that yesterday, he bumped into Yuki at the train station and it seems like she would want to watch over the coffin [<- ah, more like as a visitor to the funeral.] and does he have her contact number.
Eiji exclaims why he is asking him. Sou asks how come he looked impatient[/irritated] and didn’t Yuuya told him that nothing happened between Yuki and Yuuya. He asks Eiji if towards Yuki, he is also.. Eiji sternly says that he said don’t mention that kind of thing again. Flustered Eiji looks surprised by his reaction. He apologizes and mutters what’s up with him. Holding Eiji’s shoulder, Sou says ya, it isn’t a bit like him at all. Eiji says that until now, he still believes that Saki is still alive but he is also actually infatuated with Yuki. Sou tells him that it isn’t his fault for she is truly charismatic. He asks if Eiji is feeling guilty over Yuuya and Saki. Sou says that Eiji is straight as an arrow [/prim and proper] and he definitely knows this in his heart but he [Sou] is very happy that he [Eiji] can fall in love with someone.. Sighing, Sou says that it is only fighting over a girl and that’s all, and it isn’t likely to go as far as severing relationship with Yuuya. Smiling Eiji says that’s right but right now, he’s alright and his feelings for Yuki has already disappeared. “Earlier, she unexpectedly said those words. The day before yesterday, she went to look for me at the store and told me that there is nothing between her and Yuuya. Afterwards, she even said that she’s actually Saki. *Sou’s eyes widen* Even if it is a joke, I also won’t accept it. Sorry, I’m only being irritable, that I couldn’t help but have a tantrum on you, Sou.” Sou says that when Yuuya fell from the platform and the train is coming soon, she still jumped down in her want to help him so Yuki was also hurt. “She isn’t a bad kid.” Sou smiles at Eiji and says that he won’t tell anyone and Eiji can depend on him a bit. Somewhere else, when it is already dusk, Maiko bids Yuki goodbye and see her tomorrow because she’ll meet with Keita. Yuki tells her to be careful on her way. Looking up the sky, she thinks that she returned to the house and returned to her brother’s side, who makes her feel at ease. She wonders why Yuki choose to commit suicide and did it while the two [siblings] are in the middle of a trip.. Recalling how she wanted to die and asking to be killed, Yuki wonders if she wanted to run away, run away from everything. “I know that living on is quite hard.. I’m still alive. I’m already a person who at a time thought that I will die. What can I do.” She is standing in front of Eiji’s apartment. Wet in the rain, Eiji is surprised to see her. She smiles and calls out his name. Eiji asks how come she’s here. Yuki says that she came to investigate on some things.
She apologizes for causing him to have a bad reaction but no matter what, she wants to properly talk with him once again. Eiji asks why, is she an idiot. Seeing a couple glancing at them, Eiji takes her hand and tells her to come in here first. While walking and holding her hand, Eiji says what will happen if she catches a cold. Yuki says that it ought to be alright. She smiles and says, “I’m very tough. Please don’t worry about me.” Eiji looks at her and recalls the time when it was snowing, he was scolding Saki that he told her that there’s no need for her to wait for him after his club activity and what would happen if she catches a cold. Walking towards him, Saki said that up to this degree, she ought to be alright. Eiji said that she’s already has a dripping nose yet she would say that. Saki smiled and said, “I’m very tough.” End flashback. Yuki is puzzled and Eiji seems to look flustered. He says that he knows that it is only a misunderstanding between her and Yuuya, and there’s no need for her to torment herself over it. She apologizes for making him unhappy. Eiji says that isn’t what he meant, he is worried about her. This made Yuki blush a bit. Eiji says that he’ll lend her some clothes and he’ll also help her call a taxi to quickly get her home. Yuki smiles and says that it is alright, she’s going and it is fine and she just wants him not to misunderstand them. This made Eiji speechless and flustered. He looks away and says that he’s saying that it isn’t what he meant. “I won’t want to separate [from you].” As Eiji urges her to go in his apartment, Yuki thinks that it is truly great that this person lives on and hasn’t died. “Get back my memories. Arrest the culprit. One day, tell all of the truth. I think [he?] always like Saki, always until that moment--..” At a café, Maiko is looking worried. Poking her cellphone, she thinks that Keita is quite slow and she’s been waiting for four hours. She wonders to herself why she likes Keita so much, it’s too silly. She starts muttering that it is because he’s straight-forward, nice and cute.. She thinks that she can confess to him soon but it seems that [he/she?] doesn’t want--.. Her cellphone is ringing and Keita is shown on the screen. She quickly answers it and exclaims that it’s great, she couldn’t contact him that she’s worrying to death. “What’s up? ..huh? ..yes, I’m the person he’ll meet with tonight. *looks shocked* ..huh. Brought to the hospital. Gravely injured..!?” In Yuuya’s apartment, Yuuya is trying to contact someone. He leaves a voice message to Sou that upon hearing this, quickly call him for Keita has fallen down from a bridge and he is gravely injured. “It seems that he is supposed to meet up with Maiko so it is hard to imagine that it is suicide. Something definitely happened.”
After the beep, Yuuya curses and shouts that he called so many times and where could that Sou be. He starts to wonder if Sou is also attacked. Back in Eiji’s apartment, Eiji gives Yuki a towel to wipe herself dry and tells her to casually find a place to sit at that side. “I’m going to find you some clothes that you can wear.” She thanks him and Eiji goes to the toilet [I presume since it seems to be a studio type apartment room]. While wiping herself, Yuki notices that his cellphone is ringing. She tells Eiji about this but Eiji says that he’ll just call back later on, don’t mind it. She looks around the place and thinks that this is his house. She notices a board that has pictures and a jewelry-type of thing pin on it. She holds the jewelry and thinks that it is the multi-color schoolbag strap[/pendant]. She She recalls that this is what Eiji gave her during third year, a lovers model strap, and she lost hers when she was attacked. She is very happy that until now, he always still keeps it. Then, she notices the same strap by a glass [but it seems to be missing its main hook ring]. She is shock to see it. Trembling, she holds it and thinks that three years ago, when thing happened, it got pulled out from her schoolbag. She recalls Sou telling her that even if Saki wanted to break up with Eiji, Eiji didn’t agree to it. Yuki becomes scared over Sou telling her over Eiji’s deep obsession with Saki which is very frightening. The door is banged close. Eiji comes out and wonders what happened. Holding some clothes, he calls out to Yuki but he only finds the towel by the table. Steadying herself on a post in the street, Yuki breathes hard and wonders what’s going on. Recalling her question on what does Eiji got to do with her and Erika’s disappearance, she becomes flustered upon the thought that Eiji is the culprit. Meanwhile, Yuuya is ringing the doorbell. He knocks on the door and calls out to Sou if he’s there and quickly open it. He curses and mutters that Kousume, and Yoshiharu were attacked, and then Keita, Eiji also won’t answer the phone.. He hits the door and shouts what’s going on. It is now raining in the forest. Someone is digging on the ground with a shovel, and then uses his hands to dig deeper. He exclaims, “It’s gone. It’s obviously buried here.. Erika and Saki.. Could it be that just like Erika’s remains, it was moved to some other place? ..Or, she is still alive.. Saki.. *Yuuya wipes his gloved hand on his chin* Saki? Are you carrying out vengeance from three years ago!?” Blurb: “The culprit of what happened three years ago is.. Yuuya!?”
Comment: And, now, we have one, more or less, confirmed culprit who returned to the scene of the crime. And, I think the girls are very important to him that he would actually remember where they are buried in that forest. So, did his father helped in the cover-up or he knows the procedures really well that he can cover-up what he did? Of course, it is unlikely he is alone because of how worried he was of the others and the possibility that those who are injured/dead aren’t suicide. Actually, his fear is already growing that he is becoming drastic and unstable. Well, he also got pushed down the train platform, didn’t he? And for him to think that it is Saki out for vengeance over the deaths and injuries of the others, he’s obviously guilty, as well, as the others. Based on their reaction, Yoshiharu and Kousuke have something to do with it. Now, Keita seems to be quite unlucky that he has to be gotten rid of because he was an eyewitness to seeing Yuki and Yoshiharu together when he got killed. Since Yuuya is worried about Keita, Sou is the only one who knew about it. It is possible that maybe the one who killed Yoshiharu also spotted Keita but for Keita to be immediately dropped off a bridge after he mentioned that..it really points to Sou. I begin to wonder if Sou is the one killing them off one by one rather than Shiki. Is it possible that he is in love with Saki/Erika? It isn’t confirmed what he told Yuki is true about Eiji but what if the one who is obsessed with Saki is actually him. He seems to know things and the psyche of people to cover up his tracks. And yes, I really want to hit Eiji there for casually telling Sou what Yuki told him that she is Saki. The other theory is Sou is working together with Shiki who ought to be involved because of the placement of Saki’s remains. In killing those who are involved, it will force Yuki to give up on this and just stay with her brother though I’m not too sure why would Sou help him. Sou did plant a ‘doubt on Eiji’ to Yuki so that is like ‘stay away from him’. As for the bag strap, I’m thinking that it is possibly planted. The last person whom Eiji let in his house is Yuuya. I’m not too sure if Eiji noticed it or not. Maybe Yuuya said that it was found by the police. I’m not sure if Yuuya intended it, or it has something to do with Sou, or a collaboration between the two so that if Yuki ends up in Eiji’s place, she will doubt Eiji after what Sou told him. The way Sou has been siding with either of the two guys, and I think he is manipulating someone for his own purposes. Hehe, he does look like a bad guy with those dead-looking eyes and overly calm demeanor. Anyway, I’m sure Yuuya would really start doing something drastic soon and if he learns who Yuki is. Things should become interesting. PS. This series isn’t quite updated with the Japanese so please don’t spoil me on what happened later on. Scans by 深雪

When we face desperate circumstances, we tend to look to other people for guidance and comfort. They are in the same boat, however — lost in an ocean of life’s ups and downs. Only God is outside the boat, sovereign, stable, and strong enough to calm the storms (Psalm 107:24-25, 29). Facing trouble? Call on Him! ~ Our Daily Bread

  3. I've been following this from the time you summarized this. I like the mystery. and I guess events are starting to unfold now. i've always liked mystery/murder stories. However, I 'm not really into the guy characters here, not one of them, including Eiji. For some reason, I 'm trying to wrap my head around Yuki's " brother". I hope he's the one for Yuki. However, we still don't know if he's involved with the murders, or not. I hope not.

    1. Thanks for reading, megaworthit ^-^

      Hehe, is that so. True..

    2. The problem with the brother is that there are not enough scenes with the brother that we deem romantic. I'm 100% sure Eiji is not involved with the murders. And he has enough romantic scenes with Yuki, so I guess Eiji is the man. Well, if you wanna ask me why I don't like Eiji...... well. in the first chapter, Eiji was just dumping a girl.... and the girl was crying that " I gave you my first time", blah blah. So, Eiji is that kind of guy. He scr*ws them , then dumps them. I bet that girl is not the only one.

    3. True, megaworthit, and it seems to be more 'brotherly'.

I see. True..that was awful to do a girl whatever his reasons for doing it. And, Eiji indeed seems to be the man.

    4. I really like this story, except there is one aspect of the story that I can't seem to wrap my head around with, and that is, the complete transformation of Yuki from Saki to the present one, so much so that no one already recognizes her, including her own boyfriend. In real life, complete transformation is not possible, unless the person wants it to turn out like that of Michael Jackson's , which is not human-like. I cannot even imagine what will happen when Yuki grows old and starts to wrinkle, Have you seen the picture of a woman who has been transformed into a Barbie Doll's face ? It's hideous. I guess I just have to erase those images from my mind, and pretend everything looks normal. He he

    5. Well, megaworthit..let's just pretend that that it would be okay since her brother is a genius surgeon. =P No need to think of the details like what she'll look like when she's old.

No, I haven't seen it and I don't want to see it since such sights also stick to my mind. Actually, maybe I have seen it but I quickly look away. ^^; Like those plastic surgery gone wrong. Actually, do those who got plastic surgery at a young age look fine when they are older? Hm..at most look unnatural, right?

  4. Thank you so much for recap 9, I was waiting for it so much and now I'm so mad about Eiji. Gosh! Why Eiji told Sou about Yuki being Saki...

    1. My comment was edited? O.O Before I said thank you I was saying that...I thought there were only 2 culprits but it seems there were more people involved in this incident because I get the feeling that everyone is hiding something? Or I'm just being paranoid?

      Delete
    2. Hehe..is that so. Thanks for reading ^-^

Hm..I didn't edit anything. Maybe a computer/website glitch. That's right..it seems to be that way and it can make someone paranoid like Yuki, one has amnesia = who to trust?

  6. oh, so it was Yuuya who's digging.. but the motive is still uncertain.. and it seems that Yuuya was not aware who was the one who moved/ transferred Erika's remain, so maybe there is a probability that the one who did that is also the one who's doing the "revenge" to the group? and Sou is becoming more and more suspicious.. I'm also still confused with Eiji.. oh, i hope the next one will be out soon.. Thank you Ms. Kat.

    1. Yup. Maybe the motive is something like 'kill her for not loving him?'

Indeed..it is someone else. True..if it is so..it would be Sou. Hopefully so and you're welcome ^-^
