Namaikizakari [Chapter 8]

Cover: “Can I cut-in through senpai’s restricted area?” [Cut-in = basketball term to break through the other party’s defense.] Ding. Yuki prays at the altar to her grandma that spring break is over, a new school term is starting and their house is, as always, a war zone. Younger sister 1 asks Yuki if her skirt is very strange. Yuki says no, it isn’t. Younger sister 1 tells her to seriously look at it. Younger sister 2 is quarreling with younger brother 1 about casually using her last card[/hairpin?]. Younger brother 1 shouts that she always buys 100 at one go then quickly loses them. Younger sister 2 shouts back that it just somehow vanishes. Younger brother 2 is calling out to Yuki that there’s a hole in his sock. Probably in the toilet, younger brother 3 shouts who is the one who used all of the toilet paper again. Narration: “In short, the younger brothers are now in second year high school while the younger sisters are now in the first year high school. And, I’ve become a third year student.” Sakura blossoms are blooming. A girl is surprised to see Shou passing by. She asks her friend that guy is quite tall and handsome so who is that third year student? Her friend tells her that it is a second year student, second year Naruse-senpai! Narration: “And, our basketball club also welcomes in bright new members.” In the gym, Yuki is busy training the new members. From the door, Abe comments that manager Yuki always go through the basics with the first years. Shouji says that it is because five out of the eight new members are beginners. Seeing the two, the new members bow down and shout their greetings to their senpai-s. Abe is glad to be called senpai. Shouji comments that the first years really know courtesy. Shouji starts lecturing about the importance of hierarchy in a sports club and it starts from giving their respects to the senpai-s.. Shou interrupts by calling to him to quickly move for he’s blocking the way. Aghast Shouji reprimands Shou for interrupting and for his truly arrogant attitude. The first years happily greet Naruse-senpai a good morning. They look at him and think that he’s quite tall. Yuki thinks that for Shou to be addressed as ‘Naruse-senpai’ makes one feel uneasy about it. She wonders if he is aware that he is now a second year high schooler.
Pfft! Yuki shouts that they are going to have a five minute break. Then, a couple of first years are whispering about who’ll go and ask Shou to show them how he shoots the ball but then, he might get angry since they are currently having their break. Shou quietly thinks that they are noisy. He stands up that it made the first years mutter to look, he’s leaving. One of them is startled when Shou grabs the ball and dribbles it. He tells the two that it would be 2 vs 1 and they must stop him. Soon, everyone is watching them play. This made Yuki think that Shou is very ‘senpai’-like. Their coach arrives and laughs over how things have become quite bustling. Captain Tonomura tells everyone to line up. The coach tells him that it is alright for he only remembered something that he forgot to tell them. He says that they would have a practice competition on Saturday, the day after tomorrow. Everyone is stunned by that. While sweeping the floor, Yuki tensely thinks that no matter what, it is too sudden. Some guys call out to her that they finished mopping this side of the floor. She tells them good work, and just leave the rest up to her because they have to quickly go to rest for there is a competition soon. They happily say okay. At the shoe lockers, Shou overhears the first years saying that Yuki is a cool onee-sama just like what Abe-senpai and the others told them..but then, it seems that she’ll spank their butts if she got angry. While walking outside the gym, Yuki is thinking over what to do – check on the uniforms before going home, then before tomorrow, she is going to gather the opponent’s data then tidy up the lounge.. She is startled when Shou suddenly grabs her arm and corners her on the wall. Shou tells her, ‘Caught ya’. Yuki angrily says what’s with that ‘caught ya’, and don’t talk to her like she’s a pig [being caught]. She thinks that she went overboard earlier in thinking that changed her point of view about him. Shou says that it is her fault for always being lost in thought[/staring blankly]. Yuki denies it and tells him to let her go. He tells her that there is something dirty sticking on her. She asks where. He leans closer that Yuki immediately put up her defense by covering his mouth. Shou flicks her forehead and says, see, she is lost in thought, stu-pid. He quickly walks away. Yuki felt endlessly remorseful over how come she likes this unreasonable guy.
At an outdoor public basketball court, Yuki tries to shoot a ball in the basket but to her aghast, she wasn’t able to get a single ball in. Even if she totally doesn’t have a feel [for the ball], she wants to teach the first years the basics so she must master the shooting technique. A black haired guy [<- probably the one in the last chapter] passes by and sees Yuki shoots the ball but the ball got stuck on the ring. While Yuki wonders what to do about it, the guy tells her to leave it to him. He takes off his jacket and tells her that he’ll help her get it. Surprised Yuki thinks that this guy is quite tall but then, with that height, he ought to able to get it. Yuki tells him that it is alright, she can use a stick. The guy is already running then he jumps up high to push the ball. The ball manages to fall back down. To Yuki’s aghast, the guy fails to land properly for he twisted his foot. She nervously tells him that he just twisted his foot. Holding up his hand to stop her, he tells her that he didn’t twist it and it is alright. Yuki lightly touches his stretched finger which made him quickly turns away. This surprises Yuki as he starts coughing. Blushing a bit, he turns to her and says that it wasn’t deliberate. He quickly leaves and bids her goodbye. Puzzled Yuki mutters her thanks and apology. She thinks that he’s a strange person and most probably, he is also a basketball player. The next day at school, while walking at the hallway, Yuki thinks that she is ought to be right about him for he can jump high, his height is almost the same with Shou but then, is his foot alright. Then, a first year guy called out to her. Yuki asks Noda [guesswork from 野田] what it is. Noda nervously tells her that he’ll be late for club activity because he has committee activity. [<- probably scared of being spanked =P] Thinking that he’s too serious, she tells him that it is alright and it is okay for him to get the other first years to pass the message to her.
Yuki notices that Shou is looking at her direction. Yuki nervously wonders why he is staring at her and could it be that he is attempting something. She hopes that he better not fool around in front of the first year. Shou looks away. That reaction puzzles Yuki. At the gym, Yuki wonders what that was just now for he isn’t acting like how he used to. The coach laughs and says that tomorrow’s practice competition would be quite intense. This made Yuki concentrate on the competition again rather than Shou. Noda arrives and apologizes for being late. After greeting him, Yuki tells him that the other first years are already jogging so she’ll help him warm up. This reminds Yuki to concentrate on the competition and the new club members. Shou glances at Yuki helping Noda stretch. Then, a ball goes flying towards Shou’s face. Thump. Yuki is startled when someone shouts if Shou is alright. Shouji says that it hit Shou right in the face, and is his mouth injured. Holding his mouth, Shou says a bit. Carrying the first aid kit, Yuki tells Shou to let her see that and where does it hurt. To her irritation, Shou refuses and would rather go to the clinic. This irks Yuki. While calling out to him, Yuki follows him to the clinic and asks what’s going on. “Do you have something that you want to say?” Ignoring her, Shou says that the teacher isn’t around the clinic. Yuki angrily tells him to listen to her. Thinking that she really don’t understand him, she tells him again to let her see his injury so that she can help him treat it and do not be lost in thought during the club activity. Sitting on the bed, Shou says that she’s the one who is lost in thought. “..each and every day, sticking around with the first year students. What will happen if those guys fall in love with senpai. Senpai is obviously mine.” Yuki nervously says what’s up with that kind of thinking. She wonders if he is being difficult. She tells him how can such a thing possibly happen and he’s talking nonsense.
Shou says that he doesn’t know about that. “What if someone confesses to you and then suddenly, forcefully kiss you and kept on bothering you non-stop. What am I to do.” Yuki darkly tells him that isn’t that brat, him. Shou says ya, and what if someone like him appears, what will happen to her. Yuki thinks that if that person is like him who bothers her relentlessly, she won’t be able to endure it. “ ‘It’s senpai’s fault for always being lost in thought’ Ah..how foolish. Unexpectedly throwing a tantrum and you’re not a child. Ah.. *looks at Shou’s hair and reaches out her hand* A split second. Only a split second.. it seems like I felt that he is a bit cute.” Yuki touches his hair. Shou looks at her. Pause. Aghast Yuki nervously thinks, “See..I’m not moved at all. *turns away* From..from that time before, it started when we watched the movie together, I’ve always thinking of his hair. I got careless.” She nervously says, “No. I’m sorry. It isn’t. There’s something dirty sticking on your hair.” Shou calls out to her. She looks at him and continues to insist that there is only something dirty sticking.. Shou kisses her. She blushes really red and got angry when he tells her that there’s something dirty sticking. And, she got angrier that it turns out that Shou isn’t injured at all. Narration: “Ah yes, I’ve truly fallen in love with an unreasonable person.” On Saturday, Yuki got the lounge [rest area] ready. Looking at her watch, she thinks that the opponent school will come over soon and it has been a long time since they have a practice competition so they’ll definitely put in all their effort.. Then, she bumps into someone. The person apologizes. Holding her nose, Yuki also apologizes. Shou calls out to Yuki to complain about that idiot Abe getting his nosebleed on his uniform. Shou looks at the person who bumped into Yuki. It is the dark haired guy. All three points at each other and says, ‘Ah’. Then, they are all surprised over how they are pointing at each other. Yuki points at the dark haired guy who also points at Yuki while Shou is pointing at dark haired guy. Ah?
Comment: Apparently, Yuki’s younger siblings are the same as before. I’m really amazed that Yuki can still keep calm, composed and everything with that ruckus and she has to deal with it almost everyday of her life. ^^; It does seem to be partly the reason why she doesn’t want to confess that she has fallen for a bratty guy who most likely reminds her of her siblings. Dealing with bratty person/people for the rest of one’s life isn’t really too appealing. And, it seems that her siblings aren’t studying in the same school as she does. Wait..maybe Yuki deliberately went to a high school where they would most unlikely go for her to get a break from them =P Though if they are in the same school, it might be quite interesting. Nevertheless, there is something about Shou, even if he is bratty and everything, that has made her fallen for him. I guess he is a brat whom she couldn’t win against since he seems to be always one step ahead of her in taking her kisses and he can really ruin her composure =P Hehe, now she finds him a bit cute but only for a split second..as she claims. I do wonder if he actually knows that she has fallen for him or not. His insecurity/jealousy over the new members can happen whether they are going steady or not. He is indeed quite cute being jealous there ^^ I wonder if what he mentioned about having someone like him after Yuki is kind of prophetic. What if the new guy is his twin? =P I think having any twins/triplets is enough to drive Yuki crazy...she has a lot of them at home. The new guy seems to be allergic to a girl’s touch like a certain character in Hirunaka No Ryuusei but friendly enough to interact with them. If her first impression of Shou is a pervert, this one is a weirdo. =P I guess we’ll know who he is in the next chapter. And, Shou ought to be very jealous and curious as to why Yuki knows this guy. It doesn’t help that Yuki indirectly caused that guy’s injury which might affect the competition. Ah..things might be interesting given how possessive Shou is. ^^ I begin to wonder if her confession is just a formality because they are pretty much doing what couples do..even if well, it is usually and mostly stolen kisses by Shou ^^; Even if she is irritated and everything, her heart and feelings are reacting the opposite way. =P For those reading this series, does Yuki being not honest and confessing to Shou turn you off from this series? I don’t think the confession is going to happen anytime soon. Since this series is still quite new, apart from the first three chapters, I need feedback if you guys are still interested in continuing to read this series based on what you’ve read so far. Thanks ^^ Scans by 红莲汉

  2. please Kat, don't drop this manga ç^ç i really like the art and the story so far, even though it's the usual shoujo but I think the mangaka is able to make it interesting :3
thank for you for the summary, detailed as always *^*

  3. For me, I think it's refreshing when the girl doesn't confess or fall in love instantly to the main guy. I like her strong personality and although she's still haven't confess to him, I'm glad she acknowledge her feelings for him. I have come to love this series because of your summaries and I'm thankful for it because without your blog I wouldn't have known this manga exist in the first place. To be honest, I'll be sad if you discontinued doing the summary of this manga but I'll respect whatever decision you will make :) I'm always grateful to you for your wonderful summaries ^_^

  4. Even though I read this series from the Japanese raw, I love reading your page and the thoughts that you and other readers are putting in.. This series is indeed new but it's very hilarious and kind of unique.. It's somehow refreshing if we consider Yuki's personality compared with other shojo heroine, because unlike others who are either downright timid, cutesy, girly, naive or slow.. she is spunky, smart and well versed on different things and being paired with Shou's blunt and persistent personality, they make a very interesting pair.. :) I wonder if Hakamada Shizuka (the new guy) can bring a different aspect of Shou's personality.. that'll be interesting,

    1. True, it isn't exactly typical but then, isn't exactly different...and thanks for reading ^-^

Also, thanks for the name of the new guy ^_^

    2. You're welcome.. :) About Hakamada kun, I think that he'll be an unintentional rival. Based on ch9, there's a possibility that Yuki will go to his school and I can't wait what will be Shou's reaction once he'll get to know about it!! How should I describe him, ah.. one hell of a huge baby!! gosh! Shou's so adorable!!

    3. Is that so..I think he comes out that way since well...he seems to have a fear of being touched by a female.

Hehe..is that so. Thanks for going easy on the spoilers..I don't want to be spoiled which you probably know ^^

Is that so, hehe..I wonder how he will react than his usual 'cool' expression ^^ Lol, maybe like how Yuki hasn't been reacting ever since she met him =P

  5. Please continue this series kat! I love it so much~
Xiexie! For your hard work, I LOVE your summaries so much...
It's interesting because it is not sooo the typical shoujo and the whiny MC...
Sho and yuki are a good match because of their polar personalities ^_^
but I think with the new guy, it's round 2 for love triangle and yuki is forced to confess~ can't wait for it \^_^/

  9. I'm losing interest because it looks like this will be one of those unnecessarily high drama stories where the whole thing could be solved if the main character was just a little bit honest with herself and everyone else. With the introduction of the 3rd party in an obvious future love triangle, I can just see all of the typical cliched misunderstandings coming down the road: "second guy stirs trouble with the main couple, girl gets comforted by second guy", etc, etc...

    1. Ah, I see... well, in this case, those are needed to prolong the series..though true..it does seem to be the typical stuff coming soon. Actually, aren't most shoujo like that? ^^;

      Delete
    2. For some reason, I kinda feel the same..... it's become a bit annoying because the main guy is doing all the work, while the main girl is so coy and being dishonest. This is almost like Kedamono Kareshi ( sorry if the title is wrong ) where the main girl is even more dishonest, and I'm getting impatient, ha ha. I hope I don't get impatient with Yuki if she keeps on blocking Sho's loving and demonstrative personality.

    3. True, megaworthit..though Yuki is somewhat responsive to Sho - holding hands, giving him choco, agreeing on a date, and now, patting his head. It seems to be a case of believe what she does rather than what she says/sometimes react. ^^;

I'm also wondering about that... that kind of scenario is really being stretched quite thinly..so I'm wondering if it is making the readers here get impatient.

    4. I think the most awaited "confession" won't be happening anytime soon... Considering how Shou is very sensitive to Yuki's actions and reactions, I think he already knew where he stand and that's why he had the audacity to say that Yuki is his. Also, I think that Yuki isn't totally dishonest as she was on the first chapters otherwise she wouldn't be responding to Shou's willful requests, kisses and appease his jealousy. To me, she's just comes off as a tsundere and her mature outlook (though often messed by Shou) is cool.

Though some way or the other, it has to pass the cliche's of shojo plots, but at least it's the personalities of the characters that give life to the story and pull the readers and that's what makes this manga worth reading. While it's ordinary, plot wise.. the characters' personalities and their interactions are at least enjoyable. It's a good thing that Yuki is smart and mature (not to mention quick to pick up on things), otherwise, she might just be one of those whiny, love sick chicks scattered in different shojo mangas. Just like basketball, they're simply playing defense and offense and it's always cute how she would consider Shou's seemingly bratty and childish personality while actually showing how much she cared about him.

Whether because I can relate to her character or maybe I just love mature, independent and strong minded heroines who can parry the "normally strong male leads", Shou + Yuki is just simply cute.. :)

    5. True..I'm thinking he does. I see..well, being tsundere..her reactions makes sense.

Indeed..they aren't garden variety characters and that is what attracted me to the series. Hm..good point on that defense-offense thing. It does seem to be like that. ^^

  10. Thanks for the summary! I really enjoy this series! I think that the characters are refreshing and even if they are common character types it feels like there is a enough of a twist to their personalities that it doesnt feel like I've read this story before! And I don't mind about Yuki not confessing straight off. Like you said they already act like a couple because Shou is so forceful that it doesn't hinder any skinship or couple like situations.

Very interested to see how the new guy factors in! Plus like you said Shou is really cute when he's jealous! I won't at all mind some more of it!!

  12. Ah, it's been a while since the last time i posted comments in your blog. But i always visit and read all the updates, it's just i always end up agreed with you, and didnt want my comments to be unnecessary comments.
And as for me, im losing interest in this one. You know, yeah, i really liked the back and forth that happened between the hero and the heroine or just between the heroine herself.. I always hooked by any manga/stories that have independent heroine, you know brave, strong personality.., and such..and yeah namaikizakari is trying show that the strong will of the heroine personality. But, yuki is...not that refreshing and i dont know, from my poiny of view, she is not that strong. Well, no women is that strong, me neither, but i just feel like she ia annoying. Just annoying. Typical shoujo manga that umm i font know how to describe it. I dont know if its me that is wrong, or my taste just like kwms, tnk, knt, akai ito, hapi mari, etc..now those.. Those definetely have strong personality heroine.. Well not exactly..sawako is nit that strong but shes refreshing, and chihiro is not that strong but she's not annoying, and chiwa from hapi mari..i think yuki is stronger one, but i like chiwa more.. Yeah, well thats it.
I think this is a one manga that shouldnt have any extension plot, prolong its stories. Neither the plotline i guess. And this new guy, i assume he will be shou's rival or just past friend, buddy, and etc..and i..i dont know...it's unnecessary new arc i guess.. Why isnt she just confessed already, mist of readers might think that exciting, different, but not good reason enough to struggle herself that she doesnt want to be embarrassed in front of shou or losing or something like that. It's boring..typical.
But it would be interesting if, shou have this other personality, dark background or problems at home..or might older than he looks like, actually younger male older female is not my thing hahaha...well, it's just too typical shoujo manga.. I hope the next arc if there any, it would have natural twist that will shock us, me..
So, yeah, im lising interest on this one.
Thanks, Kat for your hardwork! Keep it up, but dont force yourself! I reallly appreciate it all..and again thanks a lot! Huge fan, btw!

Ah, is that so. Not liking the heroine can be problematic.

I see..I was wondering how the mangaka is going to extend the series when it officially became a long one. Apparently, that is the way she is going to do about it. I do find myself wondering if it is because this is running in a magazine wherein, in most of the series, it takes a very long, long time to reach a confession. Still, this mangaka is putting in some lovey-dovey in each chapter.

Hehe..don't like younger male, older female huh...

Thanks for reading and the support ^-^

Indeed that would make it interesting. Okay..

  13. I just start reading this manga, and didn't realize you also summary this manga. Yuki and Shou reminds me of my fiance and myself in our high school. My fiance see through me all of the time. I cannot hide one thing from him. He will finds out eventually. It was annoying because I want to keep my secrets to myself. I don't like anyone find out my secrets on their own. My fiance asked me out 8 times, and of course like Yuki, I rejected him 8 times. He stay so confidence despite by my 8 rejections! Until, I gave up and decide to go out with him. In the end, He feel like I am defeated by him. (rolling my eyes) Our 6 years anniversary will come up soon, and He still talk about those high school days.. LOL btw thanks for the summary <3 Tika
