Thinking that no matter what the reason is, it is enough if she don’t separate with Ryu, Chizuru is sleeping on Ryu’s lap. She groans. To his surprise, Chizuru hugs him tight and mutters for him not to go. Ryu wakes her up and says that if he hugs her like that, he would really not want to let go of her, is that okay? Chizuru is startled. She backs away and screams for him to let her go. Ryu mutters that for her to react that way can make one feel lonely[/speechless]. He greets her a good morning. After blushing, she greets him back. It is already 530am. Just when Ryu is leaving, he comes back and says that he’ll greet her parents first before leaving. Tense Chizuru shouts for him not to do that and they are still sleeping. After a pause, Ryu insists on greeting them even if they wake up. She whispers for him no for she’s very embarrassed [/feels awkward] so quickly go. He holds her hand and tells her that he’ll come and see her occasionally. She says ya. And, he finally leaves. Chizuru starts to reflect over what she told him last night when she obviously doesn’t plan on saying it out. She wonders what she and Ryu would do. At school, her friends ask Chizuru what gift she got from Ryu yesterday. To their surprise, she says that she didn’t get any but then, maybe she got something very extreme. They wonder what is going on. Soon, Ryu and Chizuru starts emailing each other good night, she leaves him a bento while he is sleeping and Chizuru watches him practice. He goes to her at night by hitting pebbles on her window glass to alert her that he’s there. And, outside the house, he hugs her while saying that he finally could come and see her. Throughout that, Chizuru thinks that she’s awful for saying that she couldn’t cheer him on the thing that he is really working hard on, and she even asked him to give it up. At a cafe, Sawako and Ayane are talking about the mood between Ryu and Chizuru being quite good and whether those two are going steady or not. Ayane tells Sawako of her observations on Ryu and Chizuru’s actions like Ryu having that expression after the end of practice, and for the two to be texting/emailing each other though in short messages. Ume appears and angrily scolds them over talking about love, going steady and short messages rather than studying. Ume is quite tense and everything over the possibility of failing yet she wants to absolutely pass. As the others realize that Ume’s feelings are unstable, Kent arrives and greets Ayane but Ume tells him guys should get lost. Ayane tells him to leave for a while. Sawako tells puzzled Kent to self-study for a while. After the drink is served, Ume starts to get busy studying that the others suggests that she should drink a bit of the milk tea. Sawako suggests that Ume sleeps some more with at least 6 hours or at best, 8 hours.
Ume asks if she is advising her not to do her best but no, she’ll fail like that since there are a lot of things that she couldn’t do with all her effort and, someone who is intelligent cannot understand that. Sawako says no, if she lack sleep, her mind won’t be quite efficient so make it more efficient then do her best. Ume says that she couldn’t sleep because she’s uneasy. Based on her reaction, Ayane seems to be able to relate to that. Sawako writes something on the paper and gives it to Ume. It is her telephone and email address. Sawako tells her to contact her if she couldn’t sleep even during sleeping time then, she can vent her frustrations at her [Sawako] as a diversion [/relieve her depression]. Ume doesn’t believe that she can but Sawako assures her that she knows of a ghost story and a comic dialogue[/crosstalk] that she couldn’t ignore.. Ume declines on that. The two girls are surprised when Ume finally takes a sip of her milk tea. She sighs and starts to study. Sawako thinks that her enthusiasm is always dragged out by Ume that she plans to review a certain part more when she goes home. Kent texts to Ayane if Ume is alright and he wants to drink tea with Ayane next time. Ayane texts her apology and says that she’ll find some time. Ume looks at Sawako’s contact information and asks what her subject she is good at. Sawako says math. Ume asks her to try to solve this problem. After Sawako taught her, Ume was able to finally solve the math problem. Ume tries solving some more using what Sawako taught her. Then, she tells Sawako to study with her during review class and teach her the things that she doesn’t know. Sawako agrees to do it for it will help her in re-evaluating [/probably re-checking her work]. Ayane comments that they are amazing. Ume asks what is it, and if she doesn’t study, she won’t pass. Ayame says that having something [they] want to do and having a definite goal, besides being very afraid of encountering a bottleneck, and just because of the bottleneck, one wants to step across. She wants to acknowledge [/admit to] herself. Soon, Sawako bids goodbye to Ayane. After Ayane left, Ume holds out her hand to Sawako and says that she’ll be under her care[/yoroshiku]. Sawako tightly holds Ume’s hand and says, ya. Let’s do our best together. While walking, Ayane thinks that it’s quite good between Sawako and Ume. She recalls Pin telling her not to pretend to understand[/know] what she doesn’t understand nor pretend that she doesn’t understand, and how she told the other girls about wanting to acknowledge herself. She thinks of telling her feelings to Kent and the true feelings that she still hasn’t noticed and perhaps talking with Kent would make her know it because he is a person who would agree to listen to her and he isn’t the type of other party wherein it is best to hold back to [/have reservations with]. She wonders how Kent would answer her if she told him. She calls Kent on her phone.
Comment: Well, there is indeed progress between Ryu and Chizuru in how they interact compared from before but it seems to be the extent of it. It seems that they are not worrying too much about what will happen in the future, and just deal with the separation, if it happens, and when it happens. In a way, it is a good idea to enjoy each others’ company than ruin their last year of high school with such things since..well, it isn’t exactly sure yet if Ryu can make the cut and get in college through baseball. I’m not sure though if Chizuru can still study college later on when currently, she isn’t studying or anything for it. Anyways, their scenes are quite nice ^^ It is also nice how the two love rivals put the past aside to encourage themselves and help each other through their common goal. In a way, they would make nice friends/co-workers in the future. Sawako helps her with her studies and Ume can help her with the love life issues. ^^ It would be amusing if they become ‘best friends’. ^^ As for Ayane, she would most probably open up whatever is her problem, whether romance or future issues, to Kent and that might be what is in store for us in the next chapter.
