Miseinen Dakedo Kodomo Janai [Chapter 24]

At Isuzu’s place, he calls out for Wakamatsu who exclaims if something had happened. He pulls Wakamatsu’s tie and shouts for him to quickly get the car ready. Holding a camera and some divorce papers, Isuzu exclaims that Karin will finally sign this. While clapping, Wakamatsu congratulates him for it wasn’t in vain that he used the Australian villa. Isuzu proudly says that everything is as he calculated. Wakamatsu exclaims that no wonder he is the young master. They were startled when someone calls out to Isuzu. It is his father with four MIB [men in black] bodyguards. His father asks if he still kept in touch with that female childhood friend of his and did as he pleased in Australia. Looking away, Isuzu asks if he can’t. His father says that he can’t as long as if it is her. His father reminds him that when someone from their family reaches 18 years old, they would go to a miai [arranged marriage] with an ojousama who matches their family’s social status. His father asks that didn’t he always told that to him ever since he was born. Isuzu exclaims that he won’t go to a miai for his partner can only be Karin. His father hits the end of his cane on Isuzu’s right shoulder. His father tells him that being the heir of their family, his opinion is meaningless. As his father takes the cane off, flustered Isuzu says that no matter what, he wanted to be with her. His father tells him that it is okay to get her as a lover whom he’ll play around with and it is already benevolent to do that to her who is a newly rich, and not from a family that matches their family’s social status. His father and his MIB left. While Wakamatsu tends to Isuzu, Isuzu can only look flustered as he holds his hurting shoulder.
Somewhere else, Nao looks at his cellphone and it is 0:01 o’clock on August 31, Wednesday. He recalls Karin agreeing to sign the divorce paper. She had told him that at 10 o’ clock, on summer’s last day, they’ll meet up at the local government office and then, submit the divorce papers and it is over. Nao glumly thinks that there are still 10 more hours before his married relationship with Karin will be over. He reflects that as a married couple, he didn’t do a tiny bit of husband’s responsibility while on contrary, Karin always work hard to become a good wife and for her to marry such a selfish person like him. He visits their old apartment, touches the name sign and goes in. He is shock to see Karin opening his room inside. He asks her what she is doing. She tells him that it is nothing and don’t misunderstand, it is only the first time she opened this door and anyway, it is the last so she thought that it ought to be okay. She assures him that while he isn’t around, she always kept the agreement because he did say that she must absolutely not open the door right. Nao looks surprised because for her to say ‘while he isn’t there’, that means, ever since he left there, she has been living in this place. He looks around and realizes that it is as he thought for there are utensils and other things being used there. Karin asks what he is saying for she definitely went back to her happy home but she unexpectedly wanted to go here after that day when she returned to school – got kissed by Isuzu. She asks him if she heard from Isuzu that he wanted to marry her. Somewhat flustered Nao says yes.
She tells him that when he wanted to divorce her, the depressed her was brought to Isuzu’s villa in Australia. There, she enjoyed what she longed for, when she was young and everything is happy days as if she is a princess. If she’s with Isuzu, it would be like her ideal life. She started to think that perhaps this is the best for her. But that day when Isuzu suddenly kissed her, she realized that she doesn’t want to live with Isuzu. Even if it is vastly different from her ideal, living in this rotten apartment, the person she still wants to live with is still— “So..I’ve been waiting here for that person to come back but I’ve waited for so long and he totally didn’t come back.. Today, sepnai finally came back.. Actually, it is not at all that, it is because you want to back out [of the divorce] and come back, right..?” Flustered Nao bites his teeth and says, “..ya, sorry..” Karin grips her hands tightly and turns around to say, is that so- and in the end, he wanted a divorce huh. Holding the divorce papers, she tells him that actually she still hasn’t signed it and since they are going to submit it today, she is going to sign it now. While dejected Nao sits nearby, Karin starts to say that it is quite baffling that just by signing her name, they are no longer married. She complains over not being able to write straight because her hand is trembling so much as if her body is refusing to sign it. She starts crying for she basically doesn’t want a divorce. Suddenly, Nao hugs her from behind. He apologizes and admits to her that actually the person who hasn’t been properly aware [/ready] is him. He apologizes again for until now, he is going to do the meanest thing and it is alright if she doesn’t forgive him throughout her life. Then, he kisses her.
Comment: Ironically, it is because of Isuzu’s kiss that Karin snapped out of it and made her prefer life with the one she loves rather than just having an ideal life. Karin pretty much redeemed herself over that. Hm..for her to always stay there and wait for him is quite nice though a bit like a ‘martyr wife’ who still waits and loves after all the awful stuff the hubby did to her. And that kiss isn’t exactly unforgiveable. I think as long as he comes back to her again, she’ll easily forgive him even if he will go through the divorce after that kiss. All that strong talk in the last chapter turns out to be just acting cool. In a way, I guess that seems to be the mangaka’s type of female lead well, at least, based on her previous series, KKwH. At this point of the story, it reminds me of the part in KKWH when the girl is really going to give up the guy and the guy finally gives in and wants her back. ^^; As for Nao, it depends whether his love for Karin and want to stay with her is greater than his guilt and wanting to be someone better for her later on. After making her go through that when he wasn’t exactly sure about the divorce, I hope that he really makes it up to her later on. Actually, why hasn’t he thought of making it up to her while being with her when obviously, she would hurt more without him? Maybe he is also a M that, rather than living with Karin, he would prefer to be punished with his mother’s rants every night? ^^; For both of them and a bit of the others, it is pretty much win-win if they stayed together. Anyway, I don’t think the divorce will push through since this series is advertised as ‘wedding story’ which can always be seen on the cover. =P As for Isuzu, apparently, the guy is in love with the wrong girl. Not only does Karin not love him, it turns out that his father is against having Karin for him. The traditional old rich preferring the same rather than the new rich is an interesting theme. It does somewhat reflect on the upbringing like how Karin is easily spoiled since her parents are suddenly rich, etc, yet free to do what she wants whereas for Isuzu, he is kind of spoiled but he has to abide by strict rules and tradition, and will meddle/control his life. Both families are still into miai though for Karin’s father it is whimsical like fulfilling some promise with a friend and kind of ‘buying’ a fiancé. For Isuzu’s family, the other party has to be suitable, etc and who cares about love..being appropriate is the priority. It is pretty much like in the issue with KwMS’s Tora but he accepted that and Isuzu doesn’t. With the mention of Karin being a mistress-lover type, I thought hard where I’ve heard it before and yes, it was From Five to Nine. Apparently, strict old rich traditional families realize that one can be unhappy in a love-less marriage that having mistresses isn’t frowned on. It is unlikely Isuzu would do that to Karin so I think it would be better for Karin to immediately reject Isuzu especially since she already knows where her heart lies with. I do wonder if we won’t be seeing Isuzu in the story soon or the mangaka would make another love story for him within the series. There are a couple of other Shocomi series that has a tall guy and short guy having their own love stories within one series but I don’t think the mangaka tends to focus on her side characters in her stories. Anyway, I can imagine Isuzu’s partner whom his father wanted would probably be the opposite of Karin: straight black hair, wearing a kimono, and very formal and very Japanese. ^^ Scans by allwink

  1. Kat, thank you for your summary on this series and your commentary. Your work seems to bring contentment to so many whom are eagerly awaiting releases of their favorites stories, myself included. I pray that you are well and that, somehow, this aspect of your life helps you to de-stress a bit. Jaiyou! (Ganbatte!)

    Such are the cultures where so much responsibility is passed down from generation to generation. The discrimination towards the nouveau riche by socialites with a long standing heritage is very real, but such a waste of energy and seems to only beget more bad behavior. Although I am not a fan of it in reality, it does add more excitement to the love stories we follow so diligently.

    1. Ya, nanasei, hopefully. ^^ Honestly though, the divorce arc has somewhat killed my interest for this couple. ^^;

    2. For some reason, my interest also kind of waned with this divorce arc. I hoped for a development in their relationship, especially nao's feelings towards Karin. Well, Karin already loves him, that's very clear. My problem now is ... the way Nao had easily dumped her and given her to Rinrin. I really have a problem with that. This is exactly the same problem I have with the male protagonists of Itazura na Kiss and AoHaru Ride.

  4. Thank you for the summary, I hope you feel better. I know its really difficult to take some time to write for a blog while having work, school, college and even social life :) Thank you for taking this precious time to write your pretty summaries.

    Returning to Miseinen... Wow a kiss! And Rin Rin /Suzu having a quarrel with his dad (The mistress thing was hilarious what a traditional and boring dad!!) Now to wait for chapter 25 I hope Nao finally thinks better and decides not to leave Karin. Suzu may find love in the omai girl or something I also have in mind some girl like miu (Hadashi de bara wo fume) for his fianceé (Laughing inside, hope she won´t be a psycho too... ^-^U)

      Yup..and actually, that mistress thing seems to be for real and not just a joke. ^^; Indeed.

      Lol..hopefully so but it would be interesting if she is also a psycho. Then, we'll have some suspense in this series.
