She starts to mentally shout back what’s wrong with that,
who do you think you are, you’re an idiot who doesn’t know anything, it is
because if she is able to get Yanagi, that perfect person to be interested in
her, if she can get his approval, she definitely.. *recalls her first love
calling her a fat pig* definitely can become perfect. Grinding her teeth, she
tells herself not to ask help from Souma again and she’ll catch Yanagi by
herself. Soon, they arrive at Souma’s place which is a traditional Japanese
residence. Ding dong. Just when Fujimoto is introducing themselves, they hear
footsteps and Souma’s siblings come out to greet their brother. They introduce
themselves as Kozue, 7 year old girl and Riku, first junior high. Fujimoto and
Kujou think that they are cute. Souma’s mother comes out. She greets them and
tells them to come in. Then, she starts airing her complains about Souma like
not contacting them, he hangs up on them and gets angry when they send
vegetables. And, she starts talking about them wanting to see the stars that
Souma shouts that is enough, they’re going in. This made her call her husband.
Souma’s father gives them a serious nod with his cap and greets them a welcome.
He asks his son what’s with the hair. Souma says that it is a perm and a provincial
old man won’t understand. His father shouts that if he wants to become a
Tokyokko [/Tokyoite, person living in Tokyo] then don’t come back. Souma
retorts back that he doesn’t want to come back. Souma’s mother shouts for them
to quit quarreling in front of the guests. That made the two break it up and
the others think that the mother is really amazing. Walking inside, Souma’s
mother tells them that this huge room is the dining hall. The rooms are 10
tatami and 8 tatami. [<- they use tatami mats to measure rooms] Yoshida
exclaims that the bigger room would be the guys’ room. Fujimoto likes the
tatami smell while Tachinba is worried about the bugs.
While the guys are busy at the side, Fujimoto mentions to
Souma’s mother that they can experience farm life in this place. She says yes,
and if they want, they can pick the vegetables for dinner tonight from the farm
at the back. At the farm, she tells them that they have green pepper, eggplant,
okra and other summer season vegetables. To Souma’s shock, her mother is
leaving the rest to him because she is busy. Kujou and Yoshida call him teacher
so Souma tells them where the vegetables are exactly are. He suggests that they
split up since the place is big. Seeing that Kujou’s hair bun is loose, Yanagi
holds the loose hair and tells her about it. Kujou is surprised that he is
standing so close to her. She suddenly slaps his hand. Yanagi asks her what it
is. He is surprised to see Kujou blushing while holding up her hand to her
head. While puzzled, Yanagi apologizes to her. Kujou is slightly covering her
face with her hat. Yanagi asks her what’s up with her today. Kujou timidly
says, “..you’re such an idiot.” That was a huge blow to Yanagi. Kujou runs off
and says that she’s going to pick eggplants. Yanagi collapses and writes
‘Kujou’ with his blood. Fujimoto shouts for him to hang on and calls for a
doctor. Taking back her decision not to depend on Souma, Tachibana grabs Souma
and demands to know what happened between those two and it ought to have
happened at the birthday party. Souma shouts who knows. While Tachibana is
really nervous, Souma thinks that he is indeed the matchmaker[/middle man] and
he hopes that the two would quickly become together during this camp. While
pulling the grass, Kujou thinks that she couldn’t face Yanagi and what’s up
with that before = kiss. He should be doing that kind of thing with his
girlfriend and there is no reason for him to do that kind of thing to her.
She thought that he had mistaken her for someone else but he
said that he doesn’t have a girlfriend. “I totally don’t understand. Yanagi,
you idiot. And, he himself does not remember it. @_@ but that expression of his
*recalls his smile* looks completely happy. It turns out that there is such a
person who can make Yanagi show that kind of smile.” She tightly holds the
grass. Souma goes to her and asks what she is doing. He tells her not to pull
the grass and pick the eggplants. Kujou says okay. Even if he thinks that it
has nothing to do with him, Souma couldn’t resist the urge to ask Kujou what
happened between her and Yanagi. Blushing Kujou timidly says that it is
nothing..nothing at all. Souma ends up getting angry over what did Yanagi do.
Kujou changes the topic by asking if she can pick this eggplant. Snapping out
of it that it has nothing to do with him, Souma says yes, and that, and that
one, too. She asks isn’t it too small. He tells her that it won’t bloom again
if they let it become too big. He also tells her that when the flower stem
becomes white, it is also a good opportunity to pick them. Holding an eggplant,
Kujou says that it looks delicious. He says that it would indeed become
delicious since a lot of thought is put into it. She says is that so and he
says that’s right. She stares at him that Souma starts saying that he doesn’t
hate that.. But Kujou is already asking if this one can also be picked. This
made Souma grab Kujou’s head for she infuriates him. [<- making him think
she’s interested in him] Then, someone calls out to him. It is Makoto [I think
from the raws..words are a bit small], his friend who is with his girlfriend.
Makoto asks how come he didn’t contact him. Souma tells him that he is with his
college club friends. Makoto comments about not recognizing him. His girlfriend
says that Souma looks eye-catching and fashionable. This pleases Souma for he
isn’t the former him anymore. Then, he becomes aghast when she says that she
still thinks that Makoto is the most handsome. Kujou tells Souma that she’s
bringing the eggplants to the others. She nods at the others and leaves. Makoto
asks Souma if that is his Tokyo girlfriend. Souma exclaims that she isn’t.
Makoto tells him not to be shy that irritated Souma insists
that it isn’t. He tells them that girl is already someone else’s. He recalls
telling himself that he’s going to change this life, but in the end, just like
when he was here before, he basically didn’t change at all. Soon, everyone had
a bath, and ate dinner. Then, it is stargazing time. They are all amazed over
the beautiful starry night. Souma’s mother calls him in and tells him to give
some corns from Makoto’s family to his friends. She asks how come he didn’t
tell Makoto that he’s coming back. Holding the plate of corn, Souma grumbles
what does it matter.. His father starts comparing Souma out loud with Makoto
being a good kid who is going to continue the family business after graduating
in high school unlike him, loafing around in that Tokyo. That snaps Souma and
says, “..ha?” His mother facepalms. While Souma’s siblings also want to watch
the stars from the telescope, Kujou is startled when Yanagi calls out to her.
She asks him how is Tachibana. Yanagi says that she ate congee and slept. It
turns out that Tachibana isn’t used to farm work. Sitting beside Kujou, Yanagi
says that he hopes that Tachibana will improve by tomorrow. Kujou silently nods
and looks down. Yanagi nervously thinks that Kujou is indeed quite different
from the usual. He asks how come she won’t look at him. She shakes her head. He
asks if she hates him, why? Flustered Kujou says, “It is because..you..you..
*recalls the kiss and holds head* ..upon thinking of you, I’ll be at a complete
loss, *blush* I hate this..” This made Yanagi blush and wonders if she is for
real, what is this.. He asks is that so. She says yes. He says, really. She
says yes. He says that is such a headache. She says yes. <- nonsense
conversation. Yanagi says, “..Regarding why would you be at a completely loss, I’ll
be very happy if you just think a lot more over the reason [for it].” This made
Kujou blush and mutters,..ah, ah, okay..? Yanagi is smiling over this when a
flying corn hits his head. The couple looks inside as Souma shouts if he has
finished talking, old man.
Comment: I’m
having vibes that something big is going to happen in this camping arc but I’m
not that optimistic that they would go steady here like what Souma is hoping
for. =P So maybe Kujou just knowing that Yanagi likes her or she likes Yanagi.
The former is because she will be thinking why he kissed her. The latter is
because she might think why she is acting that way. It is either of that
because well, that is to prolong the story =P Kujou is drawn really cute here
when she is at a loss over what to do with the kiss. She is giving mixed
signals that Yanagi couldn’t figure it out. His ‘death scene’ is amusing. I
thought that is like 1. the last thing on his mind Kujou or 2. she’s the reason
for this = crime scene. Maybe both =P I guess it is already obvious that
Tachibana doesn’t exactly love Yanagi that is why she’s pursuing him. From this
chapter, she is just looking for an approval that she has completely
transformed from the ‘fat pig’ insult. Something like a trophy boyfriend so that she'll be perfect. And,
apparently, she isn’t suitable for farm/country life so she might not exactly
be able to cause trouble here. It is Souma’s dilemma that is helping prolong
this series since I think half of the chapter is about him. Just like
Tachibana, he also wants to change from his former life. Hm..in a way, they
seem to only succeed in changing their appearances but their attitude and
personalities are still the same. I think his and his father’s conflict is
quite common for any country kid who wants to move to the city, and also the
oldest son doesn’t want to continue the family business. The father couldn’t
help but keep on complaining about it and Souma couldn’t help but argue back.
It seems that from what his conversation with Kujou, it isn’t really like he
hated farming so I guess it is more like he is running away after what happened
then – lost a crush to his friend and he easily gave up + do not want to be the 'second best' guy. He probably snapped
since he is being compared to Makoto who got what he wanted. Well, I guess for
him to return here is like he’ll have to finally face..or rather forced to
confront the issues he has been avoiding. And, at the same time, hopefully, a major progress for our couple ^^ Scans by 红莲汉化组
Quote of the day:
Whenever you're in conflict with someone, there is one
factor that can make the difference between damaging your relationship and
deepening it. That factor is attitude. ~ William James
Wow.. I have been waiting for this. Thanks Kat for the summary!! :)

ReplyDeleteYou're welcome, Thais ^-^
DeleteWhen I read this, I remembered his line back in chapter 15, "I'm tired of being number two but I know I will never be number one." Kinda sad for his part since somehow it's Kujou's fault (her natural oblivion on everything) that he fell in love with her. He strongly reminds me of Hinata (KWMS). But I think that Souma will somehow try to confess to Kujou. Waaaaahhhh~~!! Why do I have to wait for another month?! It's so frustrating.
ReplyDeleteKujou's not even a little at fault for Souma's little crush. Even with her being oblivious to poor Yanagi for ten years, I still wouldn't blame her for any of that. If anything, Yanagi will probably confess soon. Souma needs to move on, since he already knows he has no chance with Kujou.
DeleteHehe..ya.
DeleteYou think so? Indeed..manga readers ought to have a lot of patience =P
You bet!
DeleteYup.
DeleteThank you, Kujou is so cute ;)
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome and yup ^-^
DeleteThis was a great chapter, despite it's partial focus on what I consider to be a dull character in Souma. Kujou and Yanagi were at their best in this chapter, especially Kujou. Even though their romance hasn't exactly developed into a full relationship, the end to this chapter, coupled with the kiss in the last, seemed like the most significant progress since Yanagi was sick many chapters ago. A slightly aware Kujou is so overdue and I'm loving it so far! I'm really excited for their development throughout the rest of this mini-arc, since I expect something big in the next chapter or two.
ReplyDeleteSouma's a pretty uninteresting character, so I don't really enjoy the chapters that focus on his melancholy, but his conflict with his family is definitely a step up from his cliche crush on Kujou. I could be mistaken in my assumption, but I expect and hope that Momoka will comfort Souma in the next chapter. Her attraction to Yanagi is extremely superficial and Souma continues to intelligently profess the bleakness of his prospects with Kujou, so I hope that Shinobu will start to draw Souma and Momoka closer.
Hehe..Redford. Indeed.
DeleteTime will tell.

Hehe, is that so ^^ Indeed..it is progress. Me, too..hopefully something really good ^^
DeleteIt is possible. And, even if they cannot stand each other..they have things in common.
