Thinking that she couldn’t stop Kawasumi’s karate training, Suiren tells him to do his best[/gambatte]. Flashback: At the hospital, Ryousuke and Atohira were shock to see Kawasumi’s bandaged arm. Kawasumi told them that he had a bone fracture. Ryousuke exclaimed when it will totally heal. Kawasumi said half a month. This made Atohira apologize, to which Kawasumi said that it isn’t his fault. Turning to Ryosuke, Kawasumi said that they should go to the reserved bowling game. Freaking out, Ryousuke called him stupid for it is okay not to go to that kind of thing. Kawasumi said that didn’t he really want to go and right now, he can win against him. Ryousuke angrily shouted that there’s no need. Atohira offered to go with Ryousuke who stubbornly insisted that there’s no need to. Ryousuke pouted and thought that all the more he doesn’t want to go if Atohira goes. Atohira said that he’s going so properly rest up. As they exchanged goodbyes, Atohira greeted Ryousuke a happy birthday which touched Ryousuke [that he remembered]. At home, Ryousuke is lying on the bed and he recalled his duel with Atohira. Atohira suddenly kicked him which caught Kawasumi off guard and his arm got hit. He sat up and told Ryousuke who is sitting on the floor that he lost. Ryousuke said no, Atohira is pretending that he has given up and he’s practicing all by himself. Kawasumi agreed with that observation. Ryousuke said that the self-esteem is quite strong. Clenching his fist, Kawasumi said that he obviously practiced everyday. He smiled and said that this is bad for he want to strive harder. Ryousuke said is that so. To Ryousuke’s shock, Kawasumi is starting to do a one-hand push-up on the floor. He shouted for Kawasumi to stop moving recklessly. Then, Kawasumi said that hurts and he will rest for a day. Ryousuke shouted that he’s an idiot, and rest for half a month. He said that club activity is temporarily suspended so while he’s idle, bring Suiren home everyday. He commented that Suiren ought to be shock upon seeing that bandage. Ryousuke suggested that they go to the shrine [hatsumode] first. Kawasumi agreed. At the shrine, Kawasumi thought that this is the second time. The first time he prayed for health. Now, he prayed to become stronger..but wait, if he wanted to become stronger, he’ll become stronger. Kawasumi is speechlessly over Ryousuke’s omikuji fortune which is ‘great blessing’. While walking, the two talked about there are a lot of people there because this is the biggest shrine [around their area]. It turned out that Suiren and the others are also there but they are walking at the opposite direction.

Soon, the others are shock to see Kawasumi arriving for practice. [<- probably his dojo] Ryousuke scolded him but Kawasumi is stubborn and still went jogging. Ryousuke ended up jogging after him and this made Kawasumi happy. Then, they went book shopping..Kawasumi bought a karate book. And, they walked the dog. At school, while jogging, Ryousuke told Kawasumi that it is time to go to class. Kawasumi wanted to run another lap so Ryousuke went to class first. After running and heading to the sink to wash up, Kawasumi wondered what Suiren would think and would she be angry if she saw him jogging. He saw Suiren looking surprised. This made him blurt out that he is okay. He thought that it is okay if she isn’t that worried and since it is Suiren, she’ll understand him, right.. After class, Ryousuke informed Kawasumi that Aya told him that Suiren had already left and she’ll be waiting for him at the usual café. At the café, Aya warned him not to make Suiren quite worried. Then, Atohira came and reprimanded him for practicing when he had a broken bone, and he should properly rest up, idiot or make his girlfriend extremely worried. Thinking that it isn’t like he cannot rest and perhaps he is truly an idiot, Kawasumi said that he hates it more if he doesn’t do anything now. As Atohira sat beside Kawasumi, Suiren told him to do his best in karate. This made Kawasumi blush and exclaimed, yes. End flashback. Kawasumi is quite happy that Suiren would always cheer him on. While Atohira glances at Kawasumi, Suiren sees Kawasumi’s expression. She looks away and thinks that he looks very happy so in the end, she can only cheer him on. “..a little bit.. Really, only a little bit.. I’m a bit jealous.. of karate..” Atohira asks Suiren if she truly thinks that way. He tells her that Kawasumi has a fractured bone and normally, one would stop him. While Kawasumi tries to call his attention, Atohira continues to say that he thought if it is a girlfriend who really wants to stop him, Kawasumi would rest up. Kawasumi scolds Atohira that’s enough. Atohira asks her, “Do you really like Kawasumi?” The mood is a bit tense. Suiren nods. While Kawasumi is slightly blushing, Suiren thinks that it is because she likes him that she wants to cheer him on. Suiren thinks that he would even ask her if she likes Kawasumi or not, that is a matter of fact [<- something like, of course she does]. “Perhaps, I like Kawasumi more. He always didn’t call back on the phone.” Atohira says that he’s leaving. Before going, he tells Kawasumi that if he truly likes Suiren, he should properly rest up. “What she’s really thinking is for you to rest up but her mouth couldn’t say it. Except you, everyone would know that.” Kawasumi looks somewhat surprised.

Comment: So, this is pretty much Kawasumi’s ‘what happened on New Year and how he spent winter vacation’. In a way, Suiren is put in a difficult situation of doing what’s good for Kawasumi by telling him to rest or letting him do what he wants to make him happy. Since they are only recently going steady and given her current personality, I guess Suiren feels that she isn’t in the position to dictate to Kawasumi what he should or shouldn’t do regarding his favorite sport. Since almost everyone aren’t quite successful in making Kawasumi rest as he should, Atohira is using some kind of reserve psychology on him in making him prove he loves Suiren by resting so that she won’t worry about him. And, the way Atohira said it, it would seem that Kawasumi doesn’t quite know what Suiren is thinking since he is oblivious to it whereas everyone knew. Actually, I wonder how come they just didn’t scare Kawasumi with it won’t heal quickly if he doesn’t rest. Well, it cannot be helped that he feels that he has to immediately improve himself because he is enthusiastic in beating Atohira. Well, I wonder if this will make Kawasumi rest up.
