Kawata asks Kawasumi when the excursion is. Kawasumi doesn’t have a clue so he informs him that it seems that every year, the second years would go to a theme park. It is at Wakuwaku Paradise and he went there before with Nana, his girlfriend. While returning the homework, Kawata is complaining why girls like such annoying things and she bugged him about wanting to ride the Ferris Wheel and of course, that girl truly really like him. Then, he looks surprised and shouts that he won’t tell Kawasumi. Kawasumi is puzzled over what he doesn’t want to tell him. Soon, the teacher tells everyone to separate into groups for the excursion. Suiren is grouped with Meguna and the other girls. Kawasumi grouped himself with Kawata and the other guys. Later on, while walking home, Ryousuke is lamenting over not being able to be in the same group as Mina because boys and girls are separated. While Kawasumi walks ahead, Mina tells Ryousuke not to always sigh. Ryosuke says that it is obviously Wednesday but Kawasumi is going to the dojo. Upon arriving at the dojo, the door opens and Atohira comes out. He glances at Kawasumi then jogs off with the others. Kawasumi looks serious and thinks that he absolutely must win. Kawasumi goes in the dojo and Ryousuke is starting to wonder[/worry] if Kawasumi is okay. Then, he notices Koharu looking inside the dojo as if trying to look for someone. Ryosuke wonders if she is still after Kawasumi. Jealous Mina calls out his attention and says that he isn’t listening to her. He apologizes but she pouts and says that she’ll ignore him.
Mina starts to walk away that Ryousuke exclaims that he wants to listen to what she says, for real! Mina looks at him and shouts that she’s going to use scissors, jakenpon [scissors, rock paper game]. Ryousuke realizes that it is shoulder boxing. [<- something like hit the shoulder as punishment if he loses the game.] Mina’s scissors defeats Ryousuke’s paper. She looks flustered. She turns her scissors into paper and holds his hand. She tells him to quickly say something. Ryousuke is saying something but ends up drooling, blushing and giggling. Ryousuke asks why she wants to hold hands. She calls him disgusting. He says that she’s so cute. She calls him stu-pid. And, Kawasumi is busy sparring with someone as the others look on. It is night. Kawasumi arrives home and looks at the telephone. He thinks that she’s the first he’s going to tell that he won. Ichi comes in Kawasumi’s room and tells him to eat. Kawasumi is sound asleep. Ichi tries to pulls him to wake him up but Atohira, who is standing by the door, tells Ichi to let Kawasumi sleep. Ichi pulls the blanket on Kawasumi. As Ichi heads out, Atohira glances at sleeping Kawasumi. Soon, it is the day of the tournament. Ryousuke, together with Mina, is shock to see aghast Koharu. Koharu looks away as Ryousuke pulls Mina to the opposite way and says that they go at this side. While sitting down, Mina asks Ryousuke if he knows her. Ryousuke says that it seems that she [Koharu] still likes Kawasumi. He wonders if Suiren hasn’t arrived yet. Then, it is Kawasumi vs Atohira.
Comment: I think this duel would be more fun and exciting if they are love rivals. So, it is literally ‘fighting’. =P Based on this chapter, since Kawasumi is very serious with karate and everything, I think his obsession to win is because he doesn’t want to lose to Atohira who seems to have temporarily given up on it. Atohira is like someone whom he looks up to regarding karate and then, he would go to a school that has nothing to do with karate. Also, it could be Kawasumi’s pride since he has been practicing like almost everyday in clubs and dojos but Atohira didn’t and just gone to self-practice. Well, maybe there is something more since they sudden become serious with each other because of the duel. Is it only because of the upcoming duel or there is something more to it? With the way Atohira look when he mentioned about studying in a different school, it makes me think that what he is doing is for Kawasumi or maybe to be with Ichi who, if I recall right, had quit karate? Something like acting the bad guy? When he told Ichi to let Kawasumi sleep, it seems like he is quite an older brother to him. Well, even in his advises/teases on Kawasumi regarding his love life. It turns out that these two aren’t just your ordinary karate jocks but they are actually very good at it that they have a title/medal in the national competition. Hm..I wonder if Kawasumi’ll win or lose and how it will affect the storyline. And, it seems that he is also been enduring a bit regarding Suiren since he has something that he really wants to do = win this match, and he doesn’t want to give trouble to her in class..even if the one being pestered is him. And, we have an excursion coming soon. I wonder if they would have a secret tryst and enjoy some time together while they are at it...or nothing much happens. The Ferris Wheel is already hinted so that might happen. I’m not quite sure over what Kawata suddenly shut up about. Is it about his love life which might give tips to Kawasumi, or there is something about the theme park which well, he doesn’t want Kawasumi to know since he might want to do it with Suiren. For girls to be separated from the boys, I guess their school is really playing safe so that no hanky-panky is going to happen. And, we have a silly cute love couple here in the form of Ryousuke and Mina. I wonder if Ryousuke’s misunderstanding about Koharu would lead to comedy or drama? ^^; Because Kawasumi mentioned about Suiren being the first he’ll inform if he wins, could it be that she won’t be in the tournament? Or, she is just late since she isn’t there yet. It make me think that there might be some more flashbacks in the next chapter regarding where is Suiren around this time or what she is doing when Kawasumi is training for the upcoming fight. And, without glasses, cute Kawasumi becomes good-looking Kawasumi. =P From some of the drawings, it seems to hint on how he would look like when he’s older. =P Scans by all★wink汉化组
Quote of the day:
Champions do not become champions when they win the event, but in the hours, weeks, months and years they spend preparing for it. The victorious performance itself is merely the demonstration of their championship character. ~ Alan Armstrong
