Kimi ni Todoke [Chapter 101]

While holding the fence, Chizuru shouts for Ryu to do his best [/gambatte]. She keeps on cheering for Ryu while the others tell her to quickly go back to her seat since she is disturbing people. She tells them that they’re noisy to death. And, she continues to cheer for Ryu. They tell her that she’s the one who’s noisy. Ryu gets ready to hit the ball. The pitcher throws the ball. Ryu swings his bat. Chizuru looks surprised. Ryu starts running. As Sawako looks excited, Ayane exclaims that Ryu got a point and also one runner running. Someone shouts, “Safe!!” Ayane exclaims that Ryu’s timely base hit got them two points and they are now tie. While the other guys near Chizuru is exclaiming that the ball was hit and how amazing, she thinks that actually she always..always been supporting him silently in her heart. The guy then tells her to go back to her seat. She shouts that she knows already and he’s so annoying. He angrily says that she is the one with the bad behavior.

At the bleachers, Ayane asks if they weren’t able to get the upper hand and it is too bad when obviously Ryu is standing at the score circle. [<- sorry if I got the baseball terms wrong ^^;] Sawako says but then, they are tie and Ryu is amazing to have hit it. Everyone is getting excited and hopes to get the upper hand. Chizuru sits beside Sawako and says that she was made to come back. The student shouts for her not to leave her seat again. Chizuru looks up and mutters that she feels really happy. She thinks that she is really too narrow minded. While watching Ryu play, Chizuru continues to think that she felt very afraid. “Afraid that Ryu, who is always beside me since the time that I remember, will suddenly disappear from my sight. My dream has already changed but Ryu’s still hasn’t. Ryu’s dream has always not changed, right. *Ryu gives some instructions to someone and smiles* He wants to play in as many games as he possibly can. It is only that and nothing more. Want to play baseball. It is only that and nothing more.” Suddenly, Chizuru looks tense. Ayane exclaims the pitcher’s curb ball got sent off and this is bad for the runner is in third base!!

Holding her hands together as if praying, Chizuru hopes that it is in. Then she exclaims for God to bless and protect~~!!! Ayane is surprised for Chizuru has started to asks for God’s.. Chizuru prays that Ryu is a serious and nice person. “He is a stubborn good person. From the start, he is satisfied with only one important thing. And in case he set his mind on it, he’ll be stubborn even if it is a very difficult thing. He’ll also silently bite his teeth and endure [/manage] it. He won’t blame anyone. He’ll only silently struggle and do his best. You know that, right~~? You should know it, right~~!! Since God should be omniscient, right--!! You are always looking at Ryu, right--!? I’m willing to do anything. I’ll do math problems everyday as if my life depended on it. So, enable Ryu to play baseball up to the utmost possible limit.” Sawako holds Chizuru’s hand and they pray together. The ball got hit. Chizuru opens her eyes. Ryu takes off his head gear. Visitor is R3-H7 and Home is 4R-H10.

And, Ryu and his team bow and thank their opponents. Ryu glumly looks up to see Chizuru crying at the bleaches. As the students disperse, Ayane, who is walking with the other two girls, tells glum Chizuru that it is too bad and about what she’s thinking, God cannot only just look at Ryu and he has to take care of everyone so he’s definitely busy.. Chizuru says that a while ago is her mistake for praying to God as some last resort..when she is the one who watches the road that Ryu walks through. She recalls telling the others that upon going into high school, she already wanted to become the baseball club’s manager but she always feel that it isn’t quite right. Ryu strived hard in his world and even if she wants to cheer for him, it felt that she shouldn’t blend in. Chizuru thinks what..didn’t she already found the answer earlier on? There is a scene of Chizuru telling Ryu to take care on his way. By the pier, Chizuru calls out to Ryu and asks if he wants her to comfort him. He says okay. She sits near him and starts patting his shoulder.

Then, Chizuru holds his face and hugs him. Ryu blushes. Then, he says that it is over. She looks at him as he repeats that it is already over. On the verge of tears, she holds his shoulder and shouts that it isn’t over!! “There is still..the follow-up..and also, college. *Ryu becomes teary-eyed.* Ryu, I’ll stay here. No matter what happens, I’ll stay right here! So.. *her tears falling on Ryu’s cheek* you can relax and go..! If you encountered something, until then, you come back and find me! Before, you were always comforting me..afterwards, I’ll also comfort you in no less than that!!” Ryu asks what he’ll do if she encounters something troublesome. Chizuru exclaims that she’ll think of a way to deal with it herself. He kisses her and says that he’ll dash back. “I’ll definitely come back. By that time, we’ll make [/become] a family. Open up a store together.” Still crying, Chizuru just says, yes, yes. And, they kiss. Later on, Chizuru tells him that she’ll give birth to a baseball team for him. Ryu says ya, and he’ll also do his best.

Chizuru tells him that she’ll properly inherit the [ramen] flavor that uncle [/his father] makes or else, the store will be [permanently] closed. Ryu didn’t reply. Then, Chizuru says wait a minute..in the end, it is a bit too much to give birth to a baseball team.. Ryu says no, treat that as a goal. And, the two are smiling. Meanwhile, Sawako looks at her desk and thinks that Chizuru had made up her mind even if she said herself that she cannot cheer for Ryu but actually, she put in all her effort to support him. Then, she recalls Chizuru telling her that what Sawako said to be her feelings is probably also Shouta’s feelings. She recalls how Shouta assures her that it is okay for her to be in a totally new place. Sawako takes her seat and looks at the thick [getting into] college exam guidebook on the table. Sawako thinks that she also cannot run away again and she must properly face herself and this is for her to properly face Shouta.

Comment: That was pretty good. ^^ Chizuru’s lines are very moving especially the ‘letting go’ part. Even Ryu is moved to tears by it. So, this couple is going to have s long distance relationship. In a way, since the prayer wasn’t answered, Chizuru was the one who is going to make it happen because after all, it seems that Ryu is using the ‘winning the game’ as an excuse for him to keep playing with Chizuru in mind. Since she gave the go signal, he can continue playing probably even without the scholarship as long as he passed the college entrance exams. They already went ahead and start making plans for the distant future which is their ultimate goal for each other =P So, it makes me wonder if the mangaka will do something similar for Sawako and Shouta or it will be something different.
