Last Game [Chapter 47]

Holding on to Yanagi, Kujou says, “About that..!” Puzzled Yanagi calls out her name. To his shock, Kujou corners him on a tree and says, “..I..I’m going to say it..!” Yanagi is freaking out for she never before had this ‘killer chi/aura’ <- Kujou’s killer chi is soaring. Kujou says, “..li..li..li.. (‘like you’ want to say ‘I like you’)” [<- In Japanese, the li is ‘su’ as in suki/like in Japanese] Aghast Yanagi wonders could it be that she wanted to say susu and it looks like, that at any time she pleases, she can take his life!? Kujou says, “Li.. *mouth open* ...it’s nothing..” This startles Yanagi. He asks her what’s up with her for saying such frightening words to frighten someone. With heavy steps, Kujou turns around and says that it is nothing, they should quickly go back to eat. Yanagi calls out to her and asks what she meant by that. Behind some bushes, Miyabe has heard everything. <- at that time he is watching the stars. Miyabe thinks that it wasn’t deliberate but it just so happen that he is at the scene of that tragic unsuccessful confession..

Somewhere else, Kujou thinks that she couldn’t say it out. “Even if I had already arrived at the conclusion that if I want to change the current situation, there is merely the confession path that I can go to, but on the verge of saying it, she cannot help but worry. After all, what kind of reaction would Yanagi has. What to do if I’m rejected and also, how would things progress after the confession. In the end, I’ve swallowed back the words. Seeing Kujou’s serious expression, Fujimoto asks what’s up with her. Kujou says that it is nothing, she only thinks that she is very amazing. Fujimoto asks what!? And, it’s time to eat. Kujou thinks that confession appears to be still too early for her [<- to pull it off] so it would be better to feel around and find some other way..

Then, Yanagi whispers to her to ask if what she wanted to say a while ago is about that. “You want to play sumo wrestling, right? Be..besides..you also said that you like it.” [<- ‘su’ as in ‘sumo’ is similar with ‘su’ as in ‘suki’.] Kujou is aghast. Yanagi tells her not to really slap to hit for it will be very startling. [<- slapping the opponent’s face is part of sumo wrest] Kujou sighs and mutters that Yanagi has a lot of places that he’s slow-witted. This stuns Yanagi for what did she say just now, it seems that she just said some hard to believe statement. The next day, Fujimoto says that three days and two nights went by quickly. Tachibana suggests that they have one more last soak at the outdoor bath. Fujimoto exclaims that is a good idea. They meet up with Yanagi who just woke up. Fujimoto tells him that they’ll have an early soak. At the bath, Fujimoto exclaims that it is like a quite a luxury to be soaking outdoors early in the morning and they have the place to themselves. Tachibana says that she doesn’t want to go back home. Then, Kujou says that there is something that she wants to ask them and it is about con con..con..confess.

And when she said that word, there is a sound at the side. The girls are surprised for there seems to be a person there and could it be that someone is there earlier. Tachibana says that it is only their clothes that are in the dressing room. [<- thinking it is a thief] Holding Tachibana’s hand, Fujimono asks could it be..a lewd wolf..!? The figure jumps at them. The two girls scream as Kujou quickly takes a wooden bucket with one hand and takes the towel to cover herself with another hand. Yanagi and the others are surprised by the scream. Soon, everyone rush to the girls to see Kujou carrying a monkey. Tachibana says that they thought that it is a pervert but afterwards, it turns out to be a monkey that Kujou had captured. Kujou had tossed the wooden bucket at the monkey. Gramps laughs and says that lately, the inns in this region had been its victim so this deserves a reward. Yanagi wonders if it is that easy to catch a monkey. The monkey is acting vicious towards gramps as if to say to let it return to the mountain. Kujou glares at it and tells it to be quiet. Yanagi is surprised that she is lecturing the monkey. Yanagi tells Kujou that a wild monkey is very dangerous and she should have called someone or call out for him even if it is a useless to tell her about this [since she won’t listen].

Kujou says yes but then, she’ll call someone stronger than him. This irks Yanagi. Granny asks Yanagi what’s up with his girlfriend. Yanagi asks how many times he has to repeat that she isn’t his girlfriend. “..that girl is my old enemy. *Granny asks enemy..?* Yes, I’m always chasing after her from behind but one day, I’ll definitely make her look at me. And then, fu fu fu.. I’m going to make her say, ‘I won’t be able to live on without you..’ and afterwards, the fruits of victory will be in the pocket..” Granny thinks that her grandson looks ferocious and she doesn’t quite understand him. While Fujimoto tells him that they’re going, Miyabe thinks that actually, victory is already at hand and how can it be like some win or lose competition. He wonders when those two will become aware of it. Soon, they thank the grandparents who tell them to come back again next time. At the train, Yanagi asks Kujou if she is already tired for he reckons that she is very tired because this morning, together with a monkey, she.. Kujou says it isn’t so..and how should she say it, she deeply feels that the next path will be an exceptionally difficult and dangerous journey. He wonders if she is still worried about that ‘great curse’ thing.

While Kujou is looking at some notes, Yanagi looks at her and seriously thinks that he already couldn’t understand her..geez.. Then, Kujou notices that Yanagi had fallen asleep. She wonders about confessing. Kujou thinks that just by thinking about it, her heart would beat so fast <- yet her expression is still the same as before. Kujou thinks that she didn’t think that she is unexpectedly quite a coward. “—liking someone is really baffling. Take a deep breath. Hu hu hu and relax. I also don’t know if my whole face is revealing it one after another. –I don’t know whether or not that one day, whether it is a rejection or he is taken [/belongs to someone], I would still think of him. I’ll say out this feeling.” She looks around. She waves her hand in front of Yanagi to make sure that he is really sleeping. She takes a deep breath. Holding her hands together, she mutters, “..li li lili li ..li *whisper to Yanagi* ..like you.” Kujou blushes and thinks that one day, she’ll tell him about these feelings.. She thinks that he didn’t wake up which made her feel relieved yet disappointed.

Kujou is surprised when Yanagi suddenly wakes up. He tells her that how come he felt that in his dream just now, he heard some words that he simply shouldn’t miss. Kujou hits him on the head. Puzzled Yanagi asks what’s up and how come she hit his head just now that made him forget the dream. Kujou nervously apologizes and says she was startled. The others tell Yanagi that he’s annoying. And, they arrived at the station. Yanagi says that he’s tired to death. Kujou asks if he’s going to his family’s home today. Yanagi says that is what he planned to do. Kujou asks if she can go with him for she wants to give them some souvenirs as thanks for what happened before. Yanagi says that it is okay, and the others will definitely like it. After bidding goodbye to the others, Yanagi asks what she bought. Kujou says that it is pickles and when she tasted it, it’s so delicious. He comments that it’s quite old fashioned. Opening the door, Yanagi calls out that he’s home. They are surprised when Yanagi’s father suddenly comes out and calls out to him. While hugging Yanagi and patting his head, his father says that it has been a long time since they saw each other and wasn’t he lonely that he wasn’t able to see him. Michiyo and Ryouko welcome Yanagi back. While Yanagi is struggling from his father’s grip, he says, he was at Hong..Hong Kong..

His father says that for the meantime, he’ll stay for a while in Japan so isn’t he happy. Yanagi exclaims that he isn’t. Yanagi’s father asks how come he isn’t willing to be honest or is he still in his rebellious stage when he loves him so much. “Okay, let me hug you.” Ryouko tells Yanagi to just be obedient and don’t waste time. <- already received the baptism; hugged by the father. Then, Yanagi’s father notices stunned Kujou. Letting go of Yanagi, he asks who this girl is. Michiyo exclaims that it is Kujou. Kujou apologizes to Michiyo for suddenly visiting and she has this souvenir as thanks for the trouble earlier. Michiyo is pleasantly surprised that she came to give them a souvenir. After turning to the father, Kujou introduces herself and says that she is under Yanagi’s care for a long time. To Yanagi’s surprise, his father says ah, she is that Kujou. Yanagi asks how come he is familiar with Kujou. While lovey-dovey with her husband, Michiyo says that of course, he heard it from her since they do not forget to call each other on the phone every night. Yanagi thinks that it turns out to be his stupid mother.

The father tells Kujou that he heard that she transferred school during grade five. Kujou says that’s right and can she ask what is the matter. The father says that it is nothing, he simply thought that at that time, Yanagi suddenly do not want to go to cram school. He smiles and says that it’s very interesting. To Yanagi’s shock and Kujou’s surprise, the father politely asks Kujou if she would want to eat out with him in the near future. Yanagi exclaims what is he thinking, an uncle [/older man] inviting a female college student out! The father says that since Yanagi really wants to be with papa, then, it is also okay for him to come along. Yanagi exclaims in shock. The father asks what Kujou thinks of next week’s Saturday afternoon. Kujou agrees. The father says that it has been decided. Yanagi exclaims for him to ask if he’s free. Looking at his watch, the father says that he has also seen Yanagi [aside from Ryouko] so he’s going back to the company. Yanagi thinks that he is escaping. The father bids Kujou goodbye and says that he really anticipates Saturday. Yanagi shouts that he’s ignoring him. And, the father left the aghast and nervous two speechless. “What to do on Saturday--”

Comment: Well, we got a confession yet not exactly how we wanted it. The mangaka is very cunning. It makes me wonder if this is the same with ‘Faster than a Kiss’ wherein they’ll probably do everything except the kiss but here, it is everything including meeting the parents except for the confession. ^^; Amusingly, Kujou now thinks that Yanagi is the slow-witted one who didn’t know that she was confessing/is in love with him. Ah, Yanagi, you got some bad luck. Two important things that happened between you and Kujou, and you were sleeping. ^^;;; Oh well, maybe the third one is the charm ^^ As for the father, he turns out to be a very doting father much to his children’s discomfort. And like Ryouko, he does what he pleases and can get away with it. I guess he is already connecting the change in Yanagi during grade 5 with Kujou. Whether that is good or bad, it remains to be seen.
